9.4million travelers went through san jose international airport in the last year. most without incident. but in the last year some have made news. the surveillance video was released by the airport today at the media's request, shows that the latest defense line breach of a data san jose. it was march 31. you one. you can see a woman on the sidewalk outside the fence. its 20-year-old deanna another angle shows her running around the south end of the airfield before she is caught. what you don't see is the actual breach of the tsa's order. >> they had reviewed all of the video related to that incident, and what we incident, and what we are sharing with you is what the tsa has approved for us too distribute. >>reporter: it was one of five perimeter breaches at the airport in the last year. four people scaled the fence line most notably the teenager who stowed away in a will well and ended up in hawaii. then there was the repeat airport security breach or

marilyn hartman who snuck on a plane from san jose to los angeles without a ticket. >> at the place our community wants to enjoy. >>reporter: rosemary barnes says improvements are underway. >> it's important that we learn each of these security incidents. were really pleased to share with you today that we are making progress and continuing to improve -- improve our security program. >>reporter: the fence line at the southwest corner is being raised from 60 to 10 feet 6 feet to 10 feet with an additional first of double layer barbed wire. that corner is highly visible with a shopping center and new soccer stadium right across the street. >> alexander and her father miguel come here once a week to watch planes take off. and lance. and now, they are peering through a higher fence. >> it's good for the security. but, not good for getting clean shots of the planes. and video to.

>>reporter: the airport is trying to find a balance between access and security. >> the airport is hoping to get $9 million from the faa there order to raise the fence line around the entire airfield as well as upgrade some of the other security features trying to get some motion detector sensors put up and improve surveillance cameras. >> at this point have any of the fence is been replaced yet? >>reporter: yes, that southwest corner that's really right across the street from the new soccer stadium, you can see that that is brand-new fencing. you can see the difference, for feet difference in the fence height. they want to do that around the entire perimeter. >> that's what i was wondering. that did look like new fencing. police in san jose are also investigating a breach of their own involving a murder suspect who escaped a holding cell while in handcuffs. the police chief ended up tackling him. tonight at 615, ktvu spoke with the chief about what he did, and how that suspect was able to get away in the first place.

even though he was handcuffed. daly city police are asking for the public health tonight fighting a disabled teenager. 16-year-old destiny peoples was last seen sunday about 730. weaving her home in the sara monsey area. destiny is described at 53 she was wearing a maroon shirt with an howell insignia on the front, a cheetah print front, a cheetah print scarf, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. authorities say destiny often goes to the ceremony mall, the park, and the ceremony library. the eight-year-old fairfield boy who was the subject of an amber alert is thinking the people who help find him. the boy was asleep in his mother's car in the driveway of the family home when someone stole the car before dawn yesterday morning. the parents were getting ready to take their children to school and have gone back inside the house for about 30 seconds. four hours later, a neighbor spotted the missing car and found brock guzman still asleep and unharmed inside. >> i just want to say thank you

to everybody that was out looking for me. i'm very happy to be home. >> fairfield police say they are interviewing a person of interest in this case. students in chinatown san francisco are getting a lesson that could potentially save their lives. it's a new program a new program that aims to teach them how to deal with dangerous intersections in the city. ktvu david stephenson has the story new line six. >> come right over here. >>reporter: afterschool studies in san francisco chinatown today included human behavior. >> the driver should be more safe and stop when they are supposed to. >>reporter: how fast the bee seen people go? >> up to 53. >>reporter: and of the law. >> if you are on a bicycle you have to follow the same rules of the road as the vehicles. >>reporter: kindergarten through fifth grade children are being trained at any street investigators getting lessons from pedestrian safety at some

of the most dangerous intersections. the mac they have a difficult time perceiving speed and distance. so they may think that they have enough time to cross the distance. >>reporter: the product was developed by the chinatown community and the ymca, part of a citywide effort to reduce pestered -- pedestrian fatalities to zero. it's not just the basics,. >> it's teaching them on the street there should be a signal, because cars are not stopping or slowing down enough. >>reporter: they take notes on ms. behavior by drivers. >> they stop at the wrong moments, they almost hit the pedestrian. >>reporter: and pedestrians -- >> i learned that a lot of people that when they cross the street they look at their phones. >>reporter: lessons, it is hoped that the children will in turn teach adults. >> we will hope the kids turn and teach adults now is not okay for me to walk against the light, watch out for this type

of person on the street. >>reporter: 600 chinatown students will take the class by the end of the week. in san francisco david stephenson ktvu fox2 news. within the past two hours health officials in contra costa county and confirmed a case of meningitis the student was rushed to the hospital yesterday and is now recovering. health officials say they still do not know what type of meningitis that is. in the worst-case scenario it can cause brain damage. and it's fatal in about 5% of the cases. health officials say they don't expect an outbreak. >> we've had a single isolated students get sick, and through the normal process of disease investigation we identified the most likely people who could have been exposed, and treated them with antibiotics. >> six students were possibly exposed. st. mary's said it will be vigilant and is letting

everyone on campus no antibiotics are available. after 60 years of patient care, doctors medical center and san pablo today closed its doors for good. doctors, nurses and other staff came together on the front lawn this morning. after the last shift for an emotional ceremony. the public hospital was forced to close because it was losing millions of dollars every year. the hospital served about a quarter million mostly low income people in west costa talked to county. >> i feel for the community. it hurts a lot. for me too have to walk away from this place. >> patients will now have to go to kaiser hospital in richmond, or john beer beautiful center in walnut creek. and the doctors of charity hospitals are reportedly cutting staff in order to save money. they operate for hospitals in the bay area. o'connor hospital in san jose.

the san francisco business times says 280 jobs are being lost out of 7,000 employees. the charity also said it is still searching for a new buyer after a previous deal fell through. a blue ribbon commission held its first meeting on marijuana policy in los angeles today. it was led by lieutenant governor. he supports the recreational use of marijuana, but says limits are needed. >> i don't want to see big tobacco become big marijuana. i don't want to see every single street corner store turning to a medical dispensary. i don't want to walk down the streets or walk to the playground with my kids and smell it. >> this is the first of three forearms with today's focus on public safety. future forms will consider regulation and taxes along with the children's health and safety. newsome says it is likely voters will see a ballot measure on this issue next year . so it's still a year away but already the excitement is growing for super bowl 50 at levi stadium. and today in san francisco the super bowl host committee

all ships will start wearing them. the move will make san francisco the first jail system in california with body cameras. san jose's police chief speaking out tonight about tackling a murder suspect who escaped from a holding cell. and try to run off in handcuffs area. >> the chief that he was just doing his job but as ktvu shows us the incident is now raising some questions about security at police headquarters. >> >>reporter: police chief says he did nothing special but many others would disagree. >> that's our job. but really the real heroes are the men and women who are out there every day. and you know, i got to be a cop for just a couple minutes. >>reporter: he was pulling into the police parking lot monday morning when he saw a man wearing handcuffs and running. after the chief ordered him to stop and he didn't. chief esquivel spring into action tackling the suspect. but the suspect got away. ran down the street near highway 87 a block away chief

esquivel was able to pin him down. >> he was going through traffic, and luckily was able to catch up as he started to fall i just went on him and held them down. speeone these pictures show the tears from the chief shirt and the bruise from the takedown. fortunately no other officers were injured. this man hector was arrested sunday and wanted for the murder of a 22-year-old man six years ago. his mug shot shows marks not from his scuffle with the chief, police say he bit to officers and attacked another one in mexico. police say he was in handcuffs was able to flip his hands around in front of him escaped a lock holding scale climate 15-foot barbed wire fence. i asked him how he was able to skate custody. >> we are looking into the incident. in terms of his ability to actually get out of that temporary holding facility. that room. so we are looking as to how that happened. how the door was able to be open. >>reporter: police are conducting an internal investigation.

police tell us in and made escaping police headquarters has not happened in recent history. they are now reviewing surveillance video which they are not releasing to the public. and san jose ktvu fox2 news. researchers say an orca whale that washed up in the mendocino county coast will provide a rare opportunity to study the giant creature. the 25-foot long male orca was found saturday morning on a state park beach north of fort bragg. researchers say the well had eaten and become tabled up in a crackpot. the crab pot did not contribute to the well's death. they well's death. they hope to examine every part of the carcass and then reassembled the skeleton for display in fort bragg. they say they will learn, it will help with conservation efforts. let's go over to our meteorologist now. when's the last time you saw an orca? i don't ever never seen pictures like that. >> we saw the back of the in

the old days in the 30s and 40s, but i've never seen an orca off san francisco at this point. orca is, that's unusual. for us, it's been gloomy weather up there. were talking about this live camera shot. this is walnut creek now if you're familiar with that area by briones park there. look at the wind blowing in a tree. fog and low clouds. what a day, right? it's been clear for a short time in lafayette, and walnut creek today. but as the fog rolled back in the temperatures today they tried to rebound and do something significant, they did do something significant they were much cooler. especially in vallejo, 58 degrees. today was just one of those days. it was chilly. such a run of warm weather, that this is very noticeable. how much moisture, humidity, the cloud cover it makes a very cool. the winds in there. we had strong winds today. some lake tahoe stuff

thunderstorms around lake tahoe that will continue tomorrow. as the low pressure responsible for all of this fog and all of these clouds but really no rain is going to linger off our coast for a couple days now. so with that in mind today, and tomorrow pretty similar days. it's going to be a little warmer tomorrow. you're going to see little sunshine tomorrow. the temperatures are going to be in the 70s -- 80s. mostly the 60s, 50s maybe some low 70s. overnight lows like they were last night but tomorrow morning you'll wake up fog coverage everywhere. here we are tonight at 6:00 o'clock this computer model. here we are tomorrow morning when you get going. everybody has fog and low clouds. tomorrow afternoon it is slowly clearing. temperature is warm the model says a little quicker clearing the way had today. so, you're going to see instead of all 60s and 50s like 60s and 50s like we had today, we will see more 70s tomorrow. so there's tomorrow morning's fall more thunderstorms in the
