both were kidnapped by al qaeda in pakistan. the drones targeted two hideouts along the border of pakistan and afghanistan. the president said intelligence excepts didn't know the -- experts didn't know they were hiding the hostages there. >> i take full responsibility for our counterterrorism omerations, including the ones that inadvertently took the lives of warren and giovanni lo porto. i regret what happened. >> two other americans working with al qaeda were also killed in the attacks. one was an american who led al qaeda. because of the deaths of the hostages, president obama is calling for a full review of what happened. nancy pelosi says she wants to see all of the intelligence the president releases on the drone strikes. >> he took full responsibility as commander-in-chief, apologized to the family for

the tragedy. and i look forward to what he calls for the declassification of all of the information related to the strike so that the families will know the facts and so will the public. >> senator dianne feinstein says the senate intelligence committee is already investigating the drone strikes. the white house said this morning that two other americans who were members of al qaeda were killed in other u.s. anti-terror raids. 36-year-old adam gadan worked as an al qaeda translator and spokesman during his time with al qaeda. he posted propaganda video. at one time, the u.s. offered a million-dollar reward for his arrest. well, we're learning more about what prompted sonoma county sheriff deputies to open fire on a woman following a high-speed pursuit overnight. alex savidge mass more on -- has more on this. >> reporter: a violent end to a dangerous high-speed chase.

just after midnight, sonoma county sheriff deputies shot and critically injured a woman in this business park near sebastopol. investigators say that driver backed her car up into deputies knocking three of them to the ground. and that's when they evened fire -- opened fire. this pursuit started a ways away near windsor where deputies tried to stop the woman for driving backward on highway 101. she sped off and was seen going well over 100 miles an hour on the freeway. >> the high rate of speed, it poses a substantial risk to the public and the deputies and to her. we have no reason to understand why she wouldn't stop for them. >> reporter: santa rosa police were put in charge of this investigation which is standard procedure for the sonoma county sheriff's office whenever deputies are involved in a shooting. investigators tell us the driver who was shot is a white woman, they haven't said how old she is where or she's from.

this man works at a cabinet business and saw dozens of squad cars. >> i think it's a sad state of aware -- affairs when things like this happened. >> reporter: investigators have not said how many deputies fired their weapons here or how many times that woman was shot. at last check, she remains in the hospital with life- threatening injuries and santa rosa police expect to be out here at the scene gathering evidence well into the afternoon. near sebastopol, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. the highway patrol arrested a man overnight who led them on a high-speed chase for about 40 miles. it started in vallejo just before midnight. our traffic cameras here captured the chase as the suspect crossed the bay bridge. at times he got up to speeds up to 115 miles per hour from the bay bridge. the driver continued onto 101 and eventually stopped in daly city. the driver then got out of the vehicle and tried to run away

but was eventually captured. the chp says the car he was driving was stolen out of san bruno. pg&e says it is now safe for some antioch residents to leave their homes. a sheltner place order was lifted within the last hour. it went into effect at 8:45 after a gas leak in the area of buchanan and somerville roads. it happened after a construction crew hit a four- inch gas line. this order affected everyone at the chateau mobile home park. the two roads were closed while pg&e worked on stopping the leak. explosions and flames at a home in mountain view. investigators are at the scene trying to determine what sparked today's deadly fire. ktvu fox 2's janine de la vega reports on the efforts made by efforts to save a man trapped inside. >> reporter: that popping is the sound of bullets heating up and exploding in the garage of this home on lola lane. the cell phone video was taken shortly after 3:00 this nobodying where you -- this morning where you can see

flames. inside a man was trapped. >> i thought about breaking the front door down. i knew where his bedroom was. i started to bang there and started to yell. i baked on it. the window broke. the smoke came billowing out, black economic -- black thick smoke. i knew there was no way i could go in there and have one break of air. >> reporter: firefighters arrived and started to immediately attack the fire and they found the man in the back bedroom where he was one deceased. they say he was in his 60s and not married. they've not officially identified him. >> he was -- yeah. it's heartbreaking to see this happen. >> reporter: neighbors say the reason why there was ammunition in the garage is because the man enjoyed target shooting. >> he would go do like national level competitions. he would shoot old style guns and fancy guns and shoot like

at 1,000 yards. >> reporter: fire officials don't believe the am knew nix was the cause of the fire -- ammunition was the cause of the fire. that's because the fire began in the rear of the home, not the garage. as investigators sifted through charred debris, they found the worst damage to the kitchen and back. they will send much of the day getting help from the county arson -- getting help from investigators. a groundbreaking vote on capitol hill. the unrelated legislation that held up the confirmation of the new u.s. attorney general. a foggy start to the day around parts of the bay area. there's also a pretty good chance of showers in the forecast. meteorologist mark tamayo is up next. >> >> reporter: can a brand-new playground pop up in less than

darren wilson. wilson who has since resigned from the police department has never been charged in the case. but brown's parents say they've never accepted wilson's story that the shooting was in self- defense. there's no word on how much compensation they are seeking. federal prosecutors have rested their case in the penalty phase of the federal trial of dzhokhar tsarnaev. the prosecution rested after falling a man who lost a leg in the bombing. a trauma surgeon also testified about an 8-year-old boy who bled to death after the bombings. prosecutors say dzhokhar tsarnaev should be executed for his role in the attack. the defense arguing for life in prison is expected to begin presenting its case and calling witnesses on monday. in the last however, the republican-controlled senate voted to confirm loretta lynch as the u.s. next attorney general. the final vote was 56-43. political wrangling over an unrelated bill delayed the

of the house just after 5:20, several shots were fired and the boy was hit. when police arrived at the scene, they say the boy had already been take on a nearby hospital by his parent -- taken to a nearby hospital by his parent. obviously protection of life is our top priority. regardless of age, gender, whenever somebody gets shot. it's a tremendous heartache to the agency and community, especially when we're dealing with a 7-year-old child. we are sparing no resources in trying to get this resolved. police. police don't have a description of the gunman but they believe five or more people may be involved. witnesses say they drove away in a dark-colored vehicle. while children in one east bay city are getting a big gift, sal castanedo is live for us in the city of richmond where volunteers have been constructing a new playground for those kids. >> reporter: yeah, mike. i remember being a kid an loving these structures. let me show you something here.

you can see that is part of a play structure that's going to go up. in fact, there was a lot more of it earlier. these volunteers about00 of them woke upper -- about 200 of them woke up and it's for the kids to need this. >> it will take six hours to build it. we started at 8:30 a.m. we will finish at 2:30. ♪ >> reporter: volunteers danced to music as they worked to assemble a state-of-the-art playground here at the richmond family ymca. workers from kaboom, blueshield and the ymca are screwing together benches, pouring concrete and painting murals. many of the children who will play here got to design this playground at a special event in february. this new facility is at an area that lacks playgrounds or has run down play areas. many say this was important motivation to see the project through. >> i was thinking about when my

kids were young. we were fortunate to have a good playground. i know a lot of folks aren't that fortunate. i'm glad to help. >> when i was a kid, our playground was rundown, broken down. i spent more time running from gangs and bullets when i was a kid. so this is personal to give the kids a safe place to-- to play. when i grew up, i didn't have that opportunity. >> reporter: they make it look so easy. they are assembling benches. there will be a stage area. there is a deejay here. some of the volunteers have been here so they are having lunch. just around the corner, but the play area is being put together. this sunday. they are going to open the area to come -- to all kids. this sunday at 10:00 a.m., this sunday is when kids will be able to play and climb on things. i think it will be a fun day -- you are about 8 years old, 10

all right. a lot of green on the board today. u.s. stocks trading near highs on this thursday as investors eyed a big day of earnings. the dow up a little over 68 points. despite the strong dollar, the lower oil price, companies reportedly delivering on expectations. international travelers now have a high-tech way to get through customs at sfo. the airplane is introducing new automated passport kiosks. the machines scan passports, take a photo of each passenger and give them a receipt to present to a customs agent. officials say the process should only take 90 seconds. they say this should help speed up the process with international traffic at sfo which grew more than 5.5% last year. warriors forward green finished second for the nba's defensive player of the year award. the winner spurs forward,
