they found the 75-year-old man unconscious with his neck stuck in the front door and the door frame. they managed to free the man and then revive him. >> as i was doing the chest compressions i could feel this man's chest rise and he was breathing on his own and he came back to life. it was an amazing feeling and -- >> the officers say they were doing their jobs. the man is expected to make a full recovery. the city of san francisco agreed to pay $725,000 to settle a lawsuit against a police chief, kelly ohare filed that lawsuit. he fired her for exposing his mishandling of a domestic violence case. they said it was a cost cutting measure. the settlement came after the city learned she was not allowed to stay at work for an additional period of time to increase her retirement benefits unlike other employees who fired during the same time.

this area a bay area police captain who died of cancer will be laid to rest. he served in the oakland city and bart departments during his 25 year career. a service is getting under way for his contribution to the community. it will head to castro valley where funeral services will be held at the church at 10:00 this morning. a welding torch started a fire in an auto repair garage. it started on 10th and l streets. a witness of that fire, two workers tried to put it out with an extinguisher but it want enough. sparks from the welding porch hit gasoline on the floor and there's how that fire spread so quickly. it took firefighters 30 minutes to get it under control. they dismissed a football coach for soliciting a prostitute.

. there's a chance of a pop- up shower. we'll have more coming up in a few minutes. there are a lot of questions about what caltrans new about the leaks on the span of the bay bridge. and when they knew it. they're reporting that the transportation agencies learned of the problems of water accumulating in various areas of the span in 2011 and didn't say anything about it until 2014. the problems are still there. the leaks pose a serious threat to the safety and integrity of the bridge and the issue needs to be dealt with promptly. van ness avenue has been shut down for construction for the second time in a month. it's shut down and access has been cut off from gary to post. crews are working on a pedestrian tunnel for the new hospital and medical offices, those are expected to open in 2019. if you're traveling through san francisco what we like to

. well, today marks two years since a new program was launched connecting injured veterans with service dogs. the program is run through non- profit warrior canine connection. right now there are six laps at the menlo park veteran administration. 1-1/2-year-old luke is one of the dogs there in training. >> touch, touch! yes! >> the program enlists the help of other veterans, many of them injured themselves. suzanne is an army specialist that suffers from post traumatic disorder and brain injury. >> i feel worthy. it is building me up. >> each of the dogs undergo training for two years. they learn 90 different

. remote control drones are causing safety concerns about the golden gate bridge. right now there are no laws to site drone operators for activity but the federal aviation administration is proposing regulations for special drone operator, including limiting flights to daylight hours and requiring visual line of sight operations. a library watchdog group in alameda county claims the county's public libraries have dumped nearly 400,000 books in recent years despite a recent moratorium on book disposal. this is video of what appears to be someone tossing library books into a large bin. it was recorded by an anonymous employee outside the main
