alex savidge has been on the scene before we went on the air at 4:00 this morning. coming up in minutes, he will tell us what he's learned about the people involved in this terrible crash involving multiple vehicles. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> sal has been talking about three sig-alerts already this morning. he will be here in a minute. good morning, i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. kind of gusty out there. i mentioned you an hour ago. we bow to the west wind. >> we do especially in the summer. >> and dave, tori. almost felt like it yesterday when it was near 90 for some. into the today. bonnie anderson, she's at at horse hill. 90 yesterday. this morning she's cloudy and 46. bodega bay water temp, 49. that will do it. that's about where i remember it and it should be. san francisco buoy, 51. half moon bay, 53. monterey, 54. you get 90-degree inland

temperatures. you get water temps and a coast coming in. like that, the fog forms. that's what we have. it will be cool there today. reed hillview was 88. today 74 right where you should be. a little bit above on the low due to the cloud cover. 91, 1891 the record high. way back in 1896, it was a cool 34. low clouds in place. the front coming in right there. that's it. that's all it takes this time of year. 40s and 50s on the temps but the robust westerly breeze has kicked in. had a slight wind. we reversed. it's coming from the sea, not from the land this time. fog returns. it will be cooler for everybody. windy at times, temperatures, 50s, 60s by the beaches. 70s for most. a few low 80s. sal has been one busy man since 4:00 a.m., now what? >> i know, right? >> got a lot going on.

traffic is moving on interstate 880 after a fiery chain reaction crash shut down the freeway for hours near the oakland/san leandro border. alex savidge is near the scene. investigators are still trying to figure out how this all started. >> reporter: they are. they are still working on the cause out here. good morning to you. chp investigators they made quick work of this crash scene. they cleared it relatively quickly. that's the good news for east bay commuters. let me give you a look on 880 as it goes near san leandro. all of the northbound lanes are back open. you can see a bit of a slowdown. nothing like earlier this morning, though. traffic was at a standstill. this is why. a fiery chain reaction crash that involved a total of seven cars, one of those cars burst into flames upon impact. first responders also had to come in and use the jaws of life to free one person who was trapped inside a car. according to the alameda county

fire department, there were a total. five people who were hurt out here this morning as a result of this crash. we understand one of those people was injured critically. a caltrans crew came in to close the freeway for the chp investigation and traffic was diverted off 880 for a time. but again, this closure lasted only two hours this morning and the freeway reopened just about 5:00 this morning. again, the chp was out here investigating on scene for about two hours, sal, but i talked with someone from the chp a short time ago, they said they can't say what triggered that initial crash. what the cause was for that initial crash that caused the closure. no one arrested. no one cited, at least as of now. >> alex savidge, thank you. reporting live from near the san leandro/oakland border. 880 is moving along well. there are commutes that are not. let's go outside and talk about the commutes on the south bay,

northbound 280. >> people are avoiding 101 because of an earlier crash now clear near the 101880 border near the 101 -- 101/880 interchange, i should say. 85 is filled in getting into the valley. we've seen a lot of slow traffic on 580 westbound as you drive through. we've been looking at some of the traffic in the east bay. 680 is backed up from concord to walnut creek. not a huge backup. a little bit of slowing into walnut creek. we're also looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, 20 to 25- minute delay before you get onto the span. 7:05. badge to the desk -- back to the desk. a state of emergency as been issued in maryland after absolute chaos broke out overnight. flames lit up the skies. businesses, streets and cars were destroyed and the protests aren't over yet. joel waldman is live in

baltimore with more and why thousands of national guardsmen are involved. >> reporter: good morning. it's more quiet here today after last night. the national guard has been called out. its pretty efent -- it's pretty evident. we will show you the scene. you will see heavily armed national guardsmen along with their mechanized vehicles. these humvees protecting city hall here and out of the vantage point of the camera, behind the camera is the police department for the city of baltimore and there are barricades and heavily armed police officers making sure that everything stays quiet today. meanwhile, between 1500 and 5,000 national guard members are expected into baltimore. 500 state troopers have also been deployed and the governor now is also requesting an additional 5,000 police

officers from neighboring towns and cities to baltimore, maryland and they are hoping that this real big stepup in law enforcement in the presence of law enforcement here will kind of quiet down some of the protesting that we've seen. some of the rioting and looting and clashs that we saw over the last evening. >> joel, is there some credible evidence that gangs are possibly targeting police and what about the baltimore orioles baseball game? >> reporter: well, i know the baltimore orioles -- i will start with your second question first -- it was canceled. is the game canceled tonight, too? >> still thinking about it. >> reporter: they are still talking about it. there may be a game today. my die-hard producer here is an avoid or rearial fan. but he -- oriole fan but says the game might be on in the evening. the police commissioner for the city of baltimore, while he

came out and said that there is a credible threat that rival gangs, like the bloods and the crips have joined together in the city of baltimore and they are vowing to take out police officers, so the police commissioner extremely concerned about that. that's why there are barricades in front of the police department. that's why you see the national guardsmen here to ensure that everything stays safe including the first responders and law enforcement. >> all right. in is a story we'll be -- this is a story we'll be following throughout the day. thank you. meanwhile -- stay with us here at ktvu and online at ktvu.com for the latest on paul more. you baltimore. 7:08. more devastation in nepal this morning. 250 people are missing after a mudslide and avalanche in the ville am near the epicenter of that huge earthquake. now, the area is a popular trekking route and the nearest

town is a 12-hour walk away. the latest incident comes as that devastating 7.8 quake on friday, it keeps going up. now, it's at least 4400 dead. rescue teams still haven't made it to some of the remote areas. aftershocks continue out there. more help from the united states is on the way. >> i'm announcing that the united stated will provide $9 million for nepal and recovery efforts. >> a drone captured some new footage to show you. you can see how extensive the damage is. a u.n. spokesman says 8 million people have been affected by that big earthquake. 1.4million need food. the total -- the total number killed could reach 10,000. a man from san francisco

who survived the quake is speaking about the devastation. dave gordon is a trekker now being flown out of -- of nepal. he was stuck 40 miles north of kathmandu with others after the powerful quake hit. >> come down, 4, 5, buried in the rock fall. >> four americans have been killed in the quake so far. a very startling confession from an 18-year-old accused of killing a 9-year-old bay area. coming up in 25 minutes, why he says he fatally stabbed the little brother of his friend. but this has national implications. it will impact people in every state not just the 14 remaining

arguments in what could be a supreme court landmark case are underway. the justices are considering whether every state in the country should be compelled to allow gay marriages. doug luzader is live outside a very busy u.s. supreme court. good morning, doug. >> reporter: tori, good morning. very busy and very loud. these arguments going to be

started. they may have already started inside. i want to show you what's going on outside of the court here. we're seeing the crowd build. you are looking at people on either side of this gay marriage issue. now, in theory, this is supposed to land on deaf ears inside the court. but the court may recognize that there has been a real shift in public opinion here. people started lining up here even with sleeping bags outside of the supreme court over the weekend for a case that could allow guy marriages in every -- gay marriages in every corner of the country. >> to god things that are god. >> reporter: opponents of gay marriage have been demonstrating outside of the u.s. capitol because so much is at stake for both sides. the court will have to address two questions. the states already have the right to allow gay marriage and 36 do. but can other states? should all states be compelled

to recognize gay marriages performed in another state. >> the supreme court has said over and over that state or federal government cannot use the democratic process to write inequality into the law. that's not how it works. >> reporter: supporters think momentum and public opinion is on their side here. it seems all eyes will be on justice kennedy, who wrote the court's opinion striking down the doma act. but opponents point out that part of kennedy's reasoning in that decision, defending states that allowed gay marriage could help them with this one. >> he said some of the states had voted to redefine marriage in the federal government needed to recognize those state's definitions. you can't use that argument to say the states don't have the authority to define marriage accurately. >> reporter: the justices will have about two and a half hours to get into all of those questions today. everybody is gonna stand out here and try to read the tea

leafs. but we don't know what court will decide until probably june. >> probably late june. all right. doug luzader, thank you. california governor -- california lieutenant-governor gavin newsom is among those inside the supreme court this morning listening to the arguments. we talked to him about an hour ago about this potential turning point for same-sex marriage. >> i've been at this for ten years. you still have 14 states that deny this fundamental constitutional right. for me it's a personal journey and one that i'm very, very honored to participate in. >> newsom started the same-sex marriage controversy back in 2004 when he was mayor of san francisco and decided to allow gay couples to get married. a couple from california is part of this challenge from tennessee before the supreme court. they moved from the bay area to tennessee three years ago when

the law firm manzell worked for relocated. they were married but they weren't recognized. they've since moved back to california and are living in orange county but remain part of the tennessee case. stay with us here at ktvu and online for the latest on these historic arguments. coming up in 25 minutes, ktvu's pam cook will talk with a political analyst to help break down what to look for in today's hearing. 7:17. meantime, officials at corinthian college plan to meet with students this week about their futures after all of the remaining everest wyotech and heald campuses were hurt down. they were shut down after being hit by a $30 million fine from the federal government after misplacing job placement figures. there's two options. try to transfer to other schools or apply for a loan forgiveness and just start over

solidarity. welcome to "mornings on 2." tuesday, april 28th. a busy day. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's also talk about your weather and traffic and steve paulson knows your forecast. what a drop compared to yesterday when temperatures warmed up to 90 for many. today they will drop from 5, 15, maybe 20 degrees. santa rosa, 76 from yesterday's 89. redwood city, down 16 from 86 to 70 today. these are the forecast temps. those are the highs yesterday. concord from 89 to 78. 84 in san jose to 74. that was downtown san jose. read ville hew east san jose i believe was closer to 87 or 88. if you are out that way and said, man, it's hot, it was. not hot, hot. but for us it got hot pretty quick. today we'll cool down just as fast. weak front coming in. that helps closer ocean temps. 40s and 50s on the lows. there's a lot of low clouds to

go around if you don't have that and it's sunny, probably cool and breezy as well. temps will rebound from the 50s. a lot of 60s and 70s in areas that were in the upper 80s to near 90s. sal, things were crazy, busy. but have they calmed down a little bit. it's better than it was when we first started. we go on the air at 4:00, right off the bat we had a couple of serious things to talk about. let's start off with the maps of 580 and 680 where we have a lot of slow traffic from 580 to livermore. 680 is slow because of an accident that's been pushed to the side. it's still very slow. 880 southbound is backed up after 238 all the way down to decoto road. northbound 80 is still slow. it's slowing up to davis street as you drive through the area. 880 northbound, you can see the traffic here will be busy but not stop and go, certainly getting up to the downtown

oakland area. it has been okay. bay bridge toll plaza, backed up for a 20, 25-minute delay as you drive through it. i want to mention that southbound 680 at stone valley road, i think i should mention -- in fact, put it up here on the maps for you. i want to mention it. southbound 680 near stone valley road, alamo danville, a crash. and traffic is slow from walnut creek. back to the desk. the day after baltimore's darkest day, the mayor of that city along with maryland's governor, they are out on the streets this morning looking at the damage caused overnight by rioters and looters. brian flores is in the studio right now, you know the latest developments. >> good morning. baltimore remains under a state of emergency after a night of police protests. these were the scenes of rioters causing so much damage. several police cars, businesses also several injuries and hundreds of arrests as a

result. at least 15 structures and 144 vehicles were set on fire. officials says many of those stores that were targeted took years to establish, years of hard work for redevelopment of officials say set back because of the riots. want to go to -- at the damage to several stores and businesses. these are aerial shots. hundreds of people looted a rite aid pharmacy. also a cvs pharmacy which caught on fire after the looting. cleanup this morning also several cars that were torched. 00dread of cars. up to 5,000 national guard troops could arrive later today to go along with the more than 500 state troopers. we're also hearing the governor is calling on up to 5,000 police officers from neighboring cities to converge onto baltimore, this after the funeral of freddie gray, the african-american man who died while in police custody following an injury. many are surveying the damage,

including elijah cummings. >> we can't just look at what happened here. what was the pain behind it? what with the problems behind it. all of us as elected officials, we have to put a mirror up to our faces and say, okay, what do we have to do that's different? because obviously, we cannot have this happening every day. >> here in oakland, damage was minimal. this was the dogwood bar off the 1600 block of telegraph where it looks like something broke a window. 100 marched last night throughdown town oakland. they marched to police headquarters saying they wanted to show solidarity with the protesters in baltimore. oakland police say the protest was mostly peaceful. the protest ended around 1:00 this morning. in baltimore, citywide curfew begins from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. here in the bay area, a blue alert has been issued meaning there's credible threat toward police officers. sfpd said they will be

partnered up. freddie gray's family is calling for police. last night's baltimore orioles game was postponed. there's another game scheduled against the chicago white sox tonight. major league baseball says that game could possibly be moved. maybe to the nationals park in washington about 38 miles away. the game could be played before its scheduled time of 7:00 p.m. to counter that 10:00 p.m. curfew in baltimore. there is a new video. it's gone viral. you've probably seen this. i know you saw it. >> yes. >> this young protest -- this young protester got in trouble with his mother. after seeing her son throw rocks at police during the riots, she showed him who is boss. i mean, she's slapping, punching, yelling at her son. he eventually leaves the

protests but mom right behind him. swinging. we'll have much more coverage of the baltimore riots throughout the morning here on "mornings on 2." you can follow us on twitter. facebook and ktvu.com to get the latest updates. 7:36. we're hearing about a stunning confession from a teenager behind bars for the stabbing death of an -- of a 9-year-old boy. >> he did say he was trying to see what it was like to kill another person before he himself was killed. >> jordan was found stabbed to death in his home in discovery bay sunday morning. the alleged killer, 18-year-old william shultz, a family friend who was staying the state. he said in jail he feared the world was coming to an end. deputies determined he was not a danger to himself or others

after the sheriff's department was called on him before this incident. >> in hindsight, should the deputies have done something different the first time they contacted him on saturday? >> you know, they spoke to shultz. they evaluated him and he did not meet the criteria. >> all of this week, grief counselors will be at timber point elementary school where jordan was a student to help his classmates cope with the loss. a trip to a palo alto grocery store turned into a disturbing experience for a young girl and her mother. the girl told police the man grabbed her and now investigators need help finding him. ktvu fox 2 reporter janine de la vega is live at stanford shopping center where she's spoken with police. what did the police say to you? >> reporter: they said recently they've had an uptick in this type of crime. people getting groped, indecent exposure. this happened in daylight, near a crowded shopping center, especially concerned because a

child is involved. take a good look at this surveillance image that we have of the man. he appears in to be in his 40s, 6'2". he walked up to a 12-year-old girl shopping inside the farmers market and brushed up against her back side twice while reaching for items on a shelf. officers say the girl walked away and the man followed her to another aisle where he squeezed her buttocks. the victim immediately went to her mother and told her what happened. police came and searched the mall but couldn't find him. they are relying on tips from the public. here's what people are telling them so far -- >> a lot of hey, i saw this person. it may be related. may not. we're taking all leads. all of those leads seriously just because of the nature of this crime. it's one of our main priorities. any and all tips are being investigated throughly. >> police say if they catch the man, he will be arrested for

sexual battery. police will be exposed to another man exposing himself at the stanford shopping center. he was caught a couple of weeks ago. they are comparing notes with other law enforcement agencies to see if maybe this man is operating in other cities. at this point, i asked tori, you know, do you think that he's local but they really don't know. they just want people to call and give them some help. >> certainly alarming that there's been an increase in this kind of report in the first place. thank you, janine. 7:40. redwood city city police arrested a maen who any say arrested male patients under sedation. this reportedly happened at the outpatient surgery center in redwood city, police say the 55- year-old was an operating room technician who worked -- has worked at stanford's surgery sent r for five years. police have identified four

victims and are looking into his emplim history to determine if -- employment history to determine if there's more incidents. an avalanche in nepal has left 250 people missing. it happened in the epicenter where the massive earthquake occurred. this comes after the 7.8 earthquake death tolerate keeps going -- told -- toll rate keeps going up. a man said his son was in nepal. when he talked to him last week, he was up the mountain on a trekking route that takes seven days. he has not heard from him since. >> it's a very helpless feeling. there's absolutely nothing i can do. if i could jump on a plane and

go there and, you know, dig around for him, i certainly would. >> he says his son was traveling alone. he was not part of a group or with a guide. so there's no organization keeping track of him. his family says the state department has joined in the efforts to find spencer. 7:41. the mayors of san jose and santa clara are pushing to allow recycled water to be used for drinking water. >> good stuff. delicious. >> mayor sam liccardo joined other civic leaders taking big drinks of sewage that had been filtered and disinfected. the short-term goal is to show it was safe to drink. their longer term plans include an $800 million project to expand the use of recycled water. but they say for that to happen, state lawmakers would have to allow them to start work without an environmental impact report. they say if they have to do the

today, same-sex marriage goes to court. the u.s. supreme court justices begin hearing arguments over the right to marry. pam cook is in the studio with a live interview on this very hot topic. >> good morning. yes, it is. the debate is on. there are thousands of couples across the country keeping a close eye on what happens and joining me in the studio is usf law professor. thank you for coming in. >> my pleasure. >> we don't expect a decision until june. what are some of the things that the supreme court justices will be sifting through to get to that decision? >> well, today is the big day where we actually look at the arguments. the arguments on the part of the plaintiffs challenging this same-sex marriage bans are

quite simple, marriage is a government benefit. they want equal access to it. but the arguments the court will be looking are on parts of the states. what why are they still banning it? the primary arguments, history, morality, we don't think it's proper. issues about children. should the couples be raising children and finally state's rights. >> as you bring that up, first of all, talking about some of the issues being raised the people in the states banning same-sex marriage, it isn't really different than -- back in the '50s, '6 with the interracial marriages. >> it was ruled that the constitution protects all

interracial couples. most people i think expect the supreme court to do the same thing this time but it's up to the nine justices. >> it seems like when we talk about the state's having -- you brought up to me before we came on the interview is -- do you have to a to apply for a state marriage license. so states do govern marriages but we have this one couple they relocated to another state and now their marriage isn't legal. it doesn't seem right to have a state by state when you are talking about people's families. >> i think marriage is something that states issue the licenses for. the states are pushing hard on that argument but that was true for interracial marriages as well. >> i don't expect the states rights will be the central argument but the tension is for anthony kennedy, california's you know, own son, and he on

7:55. colorado prosecutors, they are due to call their first witness this morning in the trial of james holmes, the man accused in that deadly mass shooting at a movie theater in aurora, colorado. now, yesterday, no witnesses testified but the jury heard four hours of opening statements. prosecutors talked about each person who was killed. they describe james holmes as someone with an obsession for killing people. defense lawyers did not dispute that holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 others at a midnight premiere of a batman movie of 2012. but they said he suffers from schizophrenia. >> that guy shot her four times. four times. i'm not gonna show you those pictures either because you should only have to see those once. >> was not in control. was in control of his thoughts. not in control of his actions.

plaza, that's backed up out to the macarthur maze. kind of a stiff delay here. 20 minutes before you make it on the span. back to the desk. want to mention. we started off this morning at 4:00 with a crash on interstate 880, a chain reaction crash. it shut down the freeway for hours, causing gridlock. alex savidge is there at the scene. it doesn't look good. >> reporter: cars and trucks are flowing freely here. a slight backup. nothing like what we saw earlier this morning. they put a full freeway closure into place because of this chain reaction crash. here is what it looked like.

seven cars were involved. one of those cars burst into flames. first responders came in. in one case they had to use the jaws of life to free one person who was trapped inside the car. according to the alameda county fire department, at the end, there were five people who were hurt out here this morning. one of them critically. now, caltrans crews came in and they put a freeway closure in place so the chp investigators could see that traffic was diverted off 880 at that time. as far as we know, no one was arrested or cited in connection with this major accident that shut down 880. >> certainly a big deal. glad it is all cleared up there. now to developing news out

baltimore and the national guard has been brought in to quell the violence. what's it like out there right now. >> reporter: sothe national guard has made its -- the national guard has made its way to the city of baltimore. we're if front of city hall. it's not a sight you see every day with national guardsmen, humvees, state police, local law enforcement, and everyone everyone ensuring the city remains safe. between 1500 and 5,000 national guard members are expected to flood from balt moral. right now -- balt moral. right now, it's closer -- baltimore. right now, it's closer to 1500. the governor is requesting 5,000 additional policemen from neighboring states. so that's really the big difference in just of the last, you know, 12 to 18 hours. of course, last night, 15 police officers were injured

trying to quell those roo riots -- riots. six of them remain in the hospital, as far as i know. >> we've been hearing about gangs in baltimore, even rival gangs have been teaming up to go after police officers. i've heard some of the gangs saying that's not true. we never said that. what are you hearing? >> reporter: i don't know how much -- in terms of the police commission here and the police department, that's just to the left of the view of the camera. there's barry kapedz up there. but -- barricades up there. but the police commission sear id he had a credible -- commissioner same out and said he had a credible threat that they were teaming up to take out police officers. that's another reason for this heightened sense of urgency.

about the aftermath. >> many people say some parts of the baltimore look more like a war zone. take a look at this. the headline says riots erupt. this is a copy of the baltimore sun. you can see a person wearing a gas mask at the protests. a person there at the funeral of freddie gray and then over here, one of the several scenes that we've seen throughout this morning. a car lit on fire. several businesses as well. but several people arrested on this. as we go to video from last night, at least 15 police officers were injured. more than 200 arrests as a result of the protests and riots last night. at least 15 structures, 144 vehicles were set on fire. officials say many of the stores that were targeted took years to establish. but a day after that this morning, some baltimore residents are beginning to clean up. brooms, air blowers, people young and old cleaning up the streets. but there is a lot of damage.

hundreds of cars torched. stores looted up up to 5,000 national guard troops. police from other cities and state troopers will be in baltimore. here is the mayor of baltimore talking about why she is out on the street this morning. >> i wanted to make sure that i talked to people -- to the people who are desperate for better in baltimore and to let them know i'm here to support them and we'll get through this. this is a very dark day for our city but it will not define us. >> the effect was felt here in oakland. damage was minimal, though. this was the dogwood bar in oakland off the 1600 block of telegraph. it looks like somebody broke a window there. about 100 people marched last night through downtown oakland. they marched to police headquarters saying they wanted to show solidarity with the protesters. outside of a small fire set, some blocked freeway entrances overall, oakland police say the protest was mostly peaceful. the protest ended roughly around 100 this morning.

back -- 1:00 this morning. back in baltimore, a citywide curfew begins from 10:00 p.m. to 5:30 for the rest of the week. a blue alert in the bay area has been issued. there is a credible threat toward police officers. sfpd said they will be partnering up. freddie gray's family is calling for peace. >> ty. because of -- thank you. because of the rioting, the orioles game was canceled. there's another game scheduled tonight against the white sox. major league baseball is considering moving the game to nationals park in washington, about 38 miles away. the game could be played before it its scheduled time of -- it's scheduled time of7:00 p.m. to get around the 10:00 p.m. curfew. there's this new video. it's gone viral after a young protester in maryland got in trouble with his mother in the

world was coming to an end. a day before the stabbing schultz's family had called the sheriff's department worried about his mental health. the deputies determined he was not a danger to himself or anyone else. >> so in hindsight, which is always 20/20, should those deputies have done something different the first time they contacted him on saturday? >> you know, they spoke to schultz. they evaluated him and he did not meet the criteria. >> now, grief counselors are at timber point elementary school where young jordan was a student. they will be out there all this week to help his classmates deal with his death. 8:37. police on the peninsula are looking for a man who groped a young girl at a popular shopping center. ktvu fox 2 reporter janine de la vega says he was caught on camera and now police are making that surveillance video public and hoping someone can

identify him. >> reporter: the suspect that police are looking for appears to be clean-cut and he really blends into the crowd at the stanford shopping center. that concerns police. there are a lot of surveillance cameras inside the market. one of them captured a high quality image of him. take a good look at the suspect. officers say on sunday morning, he walked up next to a 12-year- old girl and brush up against her back side twice with the back of his hand while reaching for items himself inside the market. she walked away. but officers say the suspect followed her to another aisle and squeezed her butt with one hand. the victim immediately went to her mother in the store and told her what happened. police came but couldn't find him. >> this is so concerning. you should be able to go to a store with your children and not worry about something like this. yes. she's very concerned. very cooperative with us. we're continuing to work with them. keeping them apprised of our

investigation and we'll continue until we find somebody and arrest him. >> reporter: he appears to be in his 40s, 6'2" with a heavy build. police say they are receiving information from the public but so far no solid leads so they still want people to call in tips. if the suspect is found, he would be reafnlted for sex ual -- arrested for sexual battery. police say that's's been an uptick in this type of crime and they want to get a handle on it. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. redwood city police arrested a man who they say arrested male patients under sedation. it reportedly happened at the outpatient surgery center in redwood city. police say the 55-year-old was an operating room technician who has worked at the youth patient surgery sent r for five years. police have identified four

the lowest level of tests. there was some suggestion we might consider a higher test for sexual orientation for gays like race. >> the obama administration sports same-sex couples has come out on that side. the solicitor general is gonna emphasize that this ban violates constitutional provisions that guarantee citizens equal protection under the law in general. so the supreme court, if it does rule the states cannot ban this it could have big ramifications. >> yes, it could. they've been arguing there should be a higher scrutiny. the courts should be suspicious whenever the government targets a group of people for discrimination, it's well known they've been targeted for discrimination such as issues of race or sexual orientation.

officials at corinthian college plan to meet with students about their future plans after the colleges were closed down. they were shut down after being hit for a $30 million fine for misrepresenting job placement figures. students can try to transfer to other schools or they can apply for a loan forgiveness and just start over completely. some may have to pay back their loans and still have nothing to do show for it. >> they just took our money.

>> i have ten weeks left in my quarter. >> the state attorney general's website has set up a website for information for the students. you can find a link at ktvu.com. just look under the web links. san francisco police out there searching for an uber driver who reportedly robbed the passenger over the weekend. now, it happened early saturday in the marina district. the victim says the driver would not let him out at his stop. he managed to jump out of the car near pier 30 but says the driver ran after him, beat him and stole his cell phone and wallet. a spokesperson for uber says the company is cooperating with the police investigating. doc workers at the port will not report to work on this friday. the international long shore and warehouse union says members will be joining a may day march to protest police brutality. the union's contract with the pacific maritime association allows one work stoppage a month so members can attend

union meetings. the unian will schedule this for this friday so workers can take part in the may day march. b.a.r.t. has called off the planned track closure because of the possibility of a warriors' home playoff game. b.a.r.t. is making repairs between the sunnyvale and coliseum stations. the warriors will host a game sunday if the memphis grizzlies beat the portland trail blazers tomorrow. but if that series goes to seven games, the second round won't begin until next tuesday. the planned closure will be the weekend of may 9th. buses will shuttle risers between the stations while repairs take place. maybe they will have a playoff game that weekend, too. >> at this point, i'm rooting for the grizzlies. let's get it on. >> play basketball in the bay area. if you want to get your commute going, let's go out on the toll plaza, we've seen -- go out to the toll plaza, we've seen some improvement. we go on the air at 4:00.
