in california. ktvu fox 2's alex savidge has been following a tense situation since we went on the air at 4:00 in the morning. coming up in minutes, what police say happened right before someone opened fire on underconner police officers -- undercover police officers. it's wednesday, april 29th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. how does it look? >> some fog. not as much as yesterday. there's still some to go around. it's in the 40s. it will still be a nice day. robin in pleasant hill, said,

it's nice and sunny in pleasant hill. it will be sun nip. more 40s today. that's for sure. 45, santa rosa. 49 san francisco. some upper 40s, low 50s on the coast. we're running near average to slightly below and you put a pretty good west-southwest breeze, oakland, west and that's all courtesy of much colder ocean temps. the coldest i've seen in a year. 48 bodega bay. system going through will produce a few high clouds. we're on the back side of that. morning fog. it's chilly to cool. sunny and breeze. near 80 for some. that's far inland. most inland locations will be in the 60s and 70s for the bay. i think you said we have one issue last time we spoke. >> we've had improvement, too, on this issue. southbound 101 at tully road.

all lanes were blocked with a motorcycle crash. they cleared the freeway quickly. but the damage is done for a bit. someone 101 as you drive on tully, you will see slow traffic there. it's backed up from the 280 interchange. still have a couple of vehicles on the side that's causing a little bit of distraction. southbound 101 at tully. the accident ended up being minor injuries but the damage is done southbound for a while. let's go to the commute here on 880 south. speaking of slow traffic. it's backed up from 238 all the way down to just past decoto road and fremont. most of that is going to be slow. san mateo bridge slower than the dumbarton bridge right now. bay bridge toll plaza, about a 25-minute delay to get onto the span. it's pretty slow getting onto that bridge. 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. oakland police have arrested all three people now who are accused of shooting at

two undercover officers overnight. a manhunt for the third suspect lasted for hours this morning. alex savidge was the first to report the shooting and he's live at police headquarters where officers just announced they've made an important discovery in connection to the attack. good morning, alex. >> reporter: yeah, tori. good morning. they have recovered two guns from the scene. the announcement came a short time ago. the weapons likely used in the shooting that happened very early this morning when a group of people inside of a car fired toward undercover police officers involved in an investigation. apparently involved in a homicide investigation. those officers were not hurt. there was a long and tense search in an oakland neighborhood this morning. and in the end, police believe they have captured all three people responsible for the shooting. >> hands up! >> reporter: that was the scene

about 1:30 this morning. officers surrounded a home near 55th avenue and foothill where they had tracked three people wanted for that shooting. two people were arrested right away by patrol officers but there was a third man who initially was able to get away from officers and that prompted the s.w.a.t. team to be called in. they came in. they were doing a yard-to-yard search for quite some time and then edevelopment le the hid -- eventually the third man was captured. the whole situation started when officers were doing and undercover operation last night searching for a man with an arrest warrant wanted for a violent crime. we're told that that investigation, that operation that was going on was related too a homicide that happened -- to a homicide that happened earlier in the day. at some point, shots were fired toward undercover police officers. the people responsible for the shooting, then, sped off in the car, but they crashed a short

distance away. that's what prompted the initial arrest and then the long, drawnout search. i asked the chief of police this morning why those officers may have been fired at. >> i think that they -- they likely saw the undercover in the area and wondered who he was and what he was doing. we tried to avoid the confrontation by leaving but they started to shoot at the officers. >> reporter: obviously the chief and everyone else with the oakland police, grateful that those officers were not hit by gunfire. no officers hurt. police tell me the initial operation taking place was connected to a homicide that happened yesterday on 90th avenue. that's about all of the information we have. but the undercover officers fired upon were doing follow up investigation in that area when those shots were fired. nobody hurt and all three people who police believe were responsible for that shooting, tori, they are now in custody.

>> thank you for the update. the man suspected of groping a 12-year-old girl at the stanford shopping center turned himself into police and they are investigating to see if there may be more victims. 47-year-old rob richard chapman surrendered to police last night and they credit an overwhelming community response on social media and on local news outlets. he's accused of groping a little girl inside the farmers market. surveillance cameras captured a very high quality image of him. and police are also investigating the possibility that chapman was involved in a similar incident in burlingame earlier this month. this photo shows a man who botheringed two teenaged -- bothered two teenaged girls as they were shopping in a safeway store. the new bay bridge tower, the bolts, the water is

accumulating. the bridge's builders deny responsibility and are seeking to recover all costs. but caltrans is blaming the builders and says the contract won't be complete until all of that standing water is removed. 7:07. international aid is starting to arrive in nepal after saturday's devastating earthquake. but rescue groups and relief agencies say there are many challenges that lie ahead. brian flores joins us now with some obstacles the aid groups are facing. >> good morning. the death toll from the nepal earthquake continues to rise. it topped out just over 5,000 this morning. but crews still having trouble reaching remote towns and villages, where many people were injured or killed from satellite's 77.8 quake-- saturday's 7.8 quake. a if, man touring a nepal national park was choppered out of the area just yesterday before a new mudslide hit.

>> a lot of the trails are destroyed. people are stuck. they can't get out. it's very pad. >> the u.s. is leading relief efforts. the u.n. says the earthquake affected up to 8 million people and the u.n. fears that many injured survivors will die because they did not receive immediate medical attention. a man from sunnyvale was one of the four americans who died in an avalanche on mt. everest triggered by the quake. these are photos of vin tron. he had told friends he was going on a trip of a lifetime. they tell us he loved hiking and wanted to see the him ma -- himalayans. this man screamed with joy when he got a call from his son. spencer said he was on a satellite phone, could only talk for a minute. he said he was being helicoptered off mt. everest

dangerous. the east county fire district getting ready to close two more fashions and lay off firefighters. two of the five fire stations will be closed four firefighters will be laid off leaving nine firefighters on duty. the five years ago, the fire district cut the number of fire stations from eight down to five. and station 52 in brentwood was closed last september. so now the fire station in nightson will be shut down as well. >> the cables that help people hike half dome, you know it well, at yosemite, they are going up earlier because of the drought. the cables typically go up the friday before memorial day because the snow has gone by then. but the national park service says this year the cables will be in place by may 2nd because of the record low snowpack. you need a permit to hike half dome. they are given out through a

lottery system at recreation.gov. public schools in balt moral opened this morning -- baltimore opened this weekend. police arrested a dozen people overnight but are pleased with the curfew. joel waldman is in baltimore. we talked to you 24 hours ago. what differences are you seeing between yesterday and this morning. >> reporter: the number of arrests is way down. 10 as opposed to 200 when there was a lot of violence. taking you out to a live look. much more came, very quiet. members of the media around. hum vies from the national guard who are here. but -- humvees from the national guard. the curfew was put in place turned to riot and looting following a funeral for freddie

gray. >> generally speaking, the citizens have been supportive of our presence, they've had deep gratitude being here the last few days. they treat us with tremendous hospitality. >> reporter: hundreds can be seen shortly after the curfew went into effect at 10:00. the crowd dispersed after officers fired pepper bullets into the crowd. >> we tried to deploy spoke with the wind shifting and it blinded us at the same time the we had to let the smoke clear. also used the armored car to push the participants off the streets. >> reporter: police say about a dozen people were arrested for violating the curfew but are pleased are the results. >> the citizens are safe. the city is stable. we don't have a lot of activity or movement as a whole. >> reporter: people in other cities are showing their solidarity with the protesters.

air? >> we do looking at the sma commute. i want to mention that if on -- at the san mateo commute. i want to mention if there's more traffic jams we'll have those for you. let's take a look at san jose. we'll go right to skyfox over the san jose area. northbound 280 slightly different shot. sometimes we show it to you from a camera nearby. you can see all of the slow traffic from 101 getting up to downtown san jose, it gets better up to highway 17. haven't had a lot of slow traffic. but it's slow as you can see for yourself. >> let's go to the san mateo bridge approach. we've had some slowing on 92 from 880, 880 itself slows from near 238 down to decoto road and farther than that and slowing in milpitas the we had an earlier crash. it wasn't there long. things are getting back to

governor jerry brown signs an executive order about aggressively reducing greenhouse gas emissions. in the past hour, the governor announced saying with this order, california sets a very high bar for itself and other states and nations but it's one that must be reached. now, the governor's executive order establishes a greenhouse gas reduction target of 40% below the 1990 levels. he wants to reach the goal in the next 15 years. this is the most aggressive order by any state to reduce carbon emissions. governor brown is calling for $10,000 fines for people and businesses that waste the most water during the drought.

the recommendation was part of a proposed legislation to expand enforcement of water restrictions. governor brown met yesterday with the or -- with the mayors of 14 cities. he's expecting state agencies to speed up victim's review of projects that increase water level supplies. drought conditions are affecting air quality here in the bay area. according to the lung association's annual state of the air report, the lack of rain has made the air sag naent and allowed an increase of particles from exhaust fumes to linger in the area. it's worse in santa clara countiy -- county. warriors are getting a lot of love about their work in the playoffs but not so much about their stadium. the concerns about the new

welcome back to "mornings on 2." wednesday, an29th. i'm tori campbell. let's have a quick check on weather and traffic. steve joins us, another nice day before another warmup begins. >> today is the transition day. we have some patchy low clouds around. you can see some over the bay. yesterday we had a lot more. it extended from the north bay to the south bay. already breaks. but it's chilly. it's cold out there. there is a bite to the morning air. 45, santa rosa. upper 40s, novato, napa is in there. i snow san francisco was. redwood city is in there. a little bit of fog there. not a lot. that will give way and then sunny, breezy today.

cooler air aloft has moved in and a decent breeze. it's an onshore breeze or a cool direction. upper 40s, low 50s on the water temps. that helps. the fog can cool down the coastal locations that have been going very warm. a weak system goes by but high system builds in tomorrow. morning fog, once that burns off. it will be sunny and breezy, 60s, 70s for most. a couple of little low 80s. we had an issue in the south bay. is that okay? >> yeah, the 101 at tully steve, it's cleared out. the south bay traffic is back to normal, slow but slowing in the normal areas. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's slower than usual as you drive westbound because of an earlier stalled vehicle on the deck. it did get cleared a while ago but traffic is still going to be slow. if you are driving on the nimitz freeway heading southbound, we have slow traffic there as well. beginning in san leandro heading south and into the

fremont area. our skyfox is catching some of that for us over the fremont area. you can see southbound traffic is getting a little bit wetter. we're at the tail end of the slowdown. you will see a lot of slowing heading south. earlier accident at pinole valley road has been cleared to the shoulder. back to the desk. police at stanford searching for the vandals who put swastikas, painted them on student housing. last night students disturbed by the images talked about the hate. janine de la vega joining us live now. you are at stanford to tell us about what happened out there and also the investigation. >> reporter: dave, students who we spoke with tell us they hope that whoever did this is not a fellow student. we did check in with campus police this morning to get an update. we haven't heard back yet but we know that they are actively looking for whoever did this and also trying to find out

was like to kill another person. there is an interesting twist to a robbery investigation out of cupertino. east bay couple were arrested early this month after police say they robbed a man they met online through a sex ad. according to the mercury news, that man told police one of the items stolen was a test model ipad from apple. authorities have not released any other details about the device but said it's not been recovered it's not clear if the apple was related to an upcoming release or was an outdated model or test device. the golden state warriors, you know they are playing tremendous basketball. but they are about to go up against new opponents with the low of money off the court. they are opposed to building a new arena in san francisco. tara moriarty is in the mission

bay neighborhood. what esthe concern -- what is the concern about? >> they say this will be a matter of life off death. they worry that patients aren't gonna be able to get to the hospital on time because of traffic. now, according to the chronicle, they are reporting that a new group of anonymous donors from ucsf have tired a high-powered group of consultants to block the team's move to this neighborhood. the warriors want to develop 12 acres next to ucsf. it would include an 18,000-seat arena, two, office towers and a central plaza larger than union square. the opposition says the project would undue years of work and planning for the mission bay medical campus. one of the biggest concerns is parking. we spoke to a nurse at mission bay who says parking would be impacted. but she's still in favor of the arena. >> parking and traffic will be an issue but i'm for san francisco saidups being in --

stadiums being in san francisco. it may affect people. at&t park brings such a huge community around. i'm always for those kind of things. >> reporter: the alliance says the warriors plan to build 950 parking spaces for the project. most of which would serve the two office towers. the mayor's office and the warriors said the arena has broad support including ucsf. the final environmental impact report is due out next month. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> this will be interesting. thank you. it appears barry bonds's legal troubles may not be over. last week his felony conviction for obstruction of justice was overturned but yesterday, the u.s. attorney's office filed papers considering it's asking asking the supreme court to hear the case and reinstant the

twitter's stock is down 5%. the stock dropped 18% after the company announced a $1 62 million first quarter loss. twitter says new direct response marketing projects are not performing as well as expected but it believes there's still room for growth. the company that owns safeway and albertsons is planning to cut hundreds of jobs in california. filings show safeway plans to cut 574 jobs including 360 at its headquarters in pleasanton. albertsons plans to eliminate more than 200 positions in southern california. the cuts come as the supermarket's holding company is said to be preparing for an

ipo. shocking words on the label of a beer bottle. ktvu fox 2's pam cook joins us in the studio with what many are calling an invitation for date rape. good morning. >> good morning. anheuser-busch is getting a lot of backlash about the wording in a newed a campaign titled bud light up for whatever. now, here's the label in question. it reads, the perfect beer for removing no interest from vocabulary for the night. the tag line part of the company is up for whatever campaign. bun people took to social media to call the company irresponsible. even accusing of it condoning date rape. the vice president says, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage brand engagement. it's clear that this particular message missed the mark and we regret it. we would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior. as a result, we've immediately

undercover police officers overnight. three people are now under arrest. it's a case that involves the homicide, a car cash and a manhunt. alex savidge joins us live with an update from oakland police headquarters. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, tori good morning to you and everyone here breathing a sigh of relief. no officers hurt. the chief of police said this was a scary situation. someone opened fire on several undercover officers as they were involved in an investigation into a homicide and that shooting then led to a long tense manhunt in an oakland neighborhood and in the end three people were taken into custody. >> hands up! >> reporter: that was the scene around 1:30 this morning. officers surrounded a home near 5 ath avenue and foothill searching for the people responsible for that shooting. two people were arrested right

away. but there was a third man who was initially able to get away from officers. he was on the loose for some time. that prompted police to call in the s.w.a.t. team to do a yard-to-yard search. that third man eventually was captured. this whole situation began around 1:30 in the morning when officers were doing an undercover operation investigating a homicide from last night. now, at some point, shots were fired from a car in the direction of several undercover officers. they were not hit by the gunfire. and the people responsible for that shooting, then sped off and then crashed their car a short distance away and that's what led to this huge search. a police lieutenant said he's grateful no one was hurt this morning. >> i'm responsible for the entire area and to hear my officers getting shot at, it's a very tense moment. the first thing i want to do is get on scene, of course. but i really am proud of my

officers. they are very fast. quick response was the reason we were able to get everybody into custody like we did. >> reporter: and police tell me that initial operation, the initial that was going on involving the undercover detectives was connected to a homicide that happened yesterday on 90th avenue. we don't have any more information on the victim this that particular case. but again, officers were in that neighborhood. they were doing follow up work when they were fired upon. again, those officers were not hit and in the end, three people all of them in their 20s were taken into custody by police and they are all being questioned, tori. we learned a short time ago that investigators were able to recover two guns at the scene possibly used in that shooting. >> thank you. public schools in baltimore, maryland, they reopened for the first time since the riots on monday. while most demonstrated obeyed a citywide curfew, one police

the death toll from the massive earthquake in nepal continues to rise. more than 5,000 people have been confirmed dead. officials estimate that number could double. brian flores joins us now to explain how people are trying to resume a normal life there despite the devastation. good morning. >> good morning. the damage that we've seen so far has been unbelievable. but aid is slowly making its way to the country. there are several setbacks, however, including the bad weather we spoke about earlier. but as you mentioned, we have seen signs of hope. these are photographs of a 27- year-old man being rescued earlier today. we're hearing that the man was stuck underneath the rubble of what was a three-story hotel in kathmandu. he was stuck for close to 80 hours. he says he had to drink his own

another. we know that the call came out around 7:30, went to a second alarm around 7:48, i believe, you can see that everybody is standing around right now because, again. flames are out. it appears that the fire was contained to the back. we did listen to the scanner on our way over here on the live truck and we could hear them breaking open parts of walls to get the smoke out. there are no injuries. luckily, no one was hurt in this fire. and if we take a look around, you can see they are up on the roof. they've thrown a ladder up there. they are doing ventilation over there towards the back of the building. and that is where we had heard all of the commotion on the scanner. we can see that they are starting to do a little bit of overhaul and have drug some tables out. this is very close to the palace of fine arts. they have blocked off this

sacramento county. deputies say a man was shot and killed by a fish and wildlife officer during a raid on an illegal marijuana growing operation. this happened about 6:00 a.m. at the stone lake's national wildlife ref few. officials say the man pointed a gun at an officer. that officer opened fire hitting the man in the chest. the sacramento bee is reporting the suspected grower was pronounced dead at the scene. we'll get more details as we get them. police at stanford university, they are searching for the people who painted disturbing and hateful symbols on student housing there. janine de la vega reports from stanford where students rallied against the vandalism. >> reporter: the university's president has come out saying that he is deeply troubled that somebody would point an offensive symbol like a swastika on campus housing. they've launched an investigation. so far, students are telling us, they feel this is an isolated incident. last night, about 200 students

after police say they robbed a man they met online through a sex ad. now, according to the mercury news that man told police, a test model ipad from apple was one of the items stolen. authorities haven't released any other details about that device but said it has not been recovered as yet. it's also not clear if the apple item was related to an upcoming product release or an out dated model or a test device. there's no stopping the warriors on the court but the team's plan to build an arena in san francisco is facing stiff competition. the chronicle reports that an anonymous group of wealthy donors has hired a high-powered consulting team to block the proposed move to the mission bay neighborhood. the warriors want to build an 18,000-seat arena, two 160-foot foot tall office towers and a central plaza larger than union
