the van made a stop we didn't know about before. ktvu's cristina rendon live with that. >> reporter: the details comish from police investigation. they handed over the evidence in the freddie gray case to the state attorney this morning and they say 100 of their officers have been hurt since the violence broke out on monday. >> the public is eager for answers surrounding the death of 25-year-old freddie gray. he died while in police custody from spinal injuries sustained after his arrest. details show the police van made undisclosed stop before arriving that police station. >> we discovered this new stop based on our review. >> reporter: the police commissioner says even though they turned over evidence their department's work isn't over. >> if new evidence is found we will follow it. >> reporter: protesters spreading across the country and so are the arrests in

officer whose were hurt. >> the police department has now turned over the report on freddie gray's death to officials but they are making it public. maryland is also conducting its own investigation along with the u.s. justice department. the new app that allows the uploading of encounters with police are now available in california. it is called mobile justice. people can use it to upload video to their local aclu website while recording it. it is able in other areas, including new york city where it has stored 30,000 videos since 2012. an ex-con convict took the witness tornado in his own defense. he is accused of straggling federal public defender investigator sandra coke.

he is a 17 time felon. he had a child with coke. he killed her but she helped put him behind bars by calling his patrol agent. a new bill in sacramento would make it illegal for hospitals to deny organ transplants to people who use medical marijuana. he says marijuana lets him sleep and eat and helps his mood and energy. but he was taken off of the list at stanford after a test came back positive. >> that thought never crossed my mind i was doing anything wrong and so they said that, you know, i can't be doing that. >> each hospital sets its own rules for marijuana use. and some policies are stricter than others. the bill passed 52-8 and now

moves into committee. tonight at 10:00 p.m. how the bill could standardize the rules for all hospitals and why not everyone is convinced that is a good idea. the sea lion that ended up on the streets is now out of harm's way. several people called to report the pup hiding under neath a car in san francisco. officers with the police department and rescuers got it into a carrier and took it to the mammal center. >> turns out this isn't the first time the pup has been treated at the center. the animal was rescued in february and treated before being released. at this point no one knows what caused the up to strand itself again. they will see -- caused the

oakland is bracing for tomorrow's may day demonstrations. union workers are planning a match and others plan to disrupt shuttle buses. ktvu's john sasaki is live where friday morning could be tough for commuters. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. could be a mess tomorrow

morning. but if you look at this, letters sent to all city workers, it is one of four protests planned for may day. >> reporter: the b.a.r.t. station the busy main east bay transfer station. commuters are bracing for may day, protests or worse. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: starting at 7:30 a.m. is a protest in which organizers plan to distribute the commute. they will protest at the gates and on the platforms. >> think about carpooling tomorrow. maybe taking different forms of transportation. >> reporter: officials plan to have normal service with additional staff on hand. police will be out in force. sources say officers are working 12 hour shifts starting on may day and riding

happens. to the drought. it is calling for desperate measures as a result of no water including doing something to keep one system from salt water poisoning. ktvu's tom vacar explains how a rare construction project there will end up protecting tens of millions of us. >> reporter: in announcing the moves to combat the drought the governor -- >> i just want you and the public to understand this is really serious business. >> reporter: so serious next week the state's water resources director will take a measure not used in 40 years when california had its last great drought. >> this is very much an emergency measure. >> contractors will bring barges filled with millions of rocks to construct a dam across this river.

they are caried here. the contractor will place them across the river. the barrier will block off salt-water brought here in sides from the ocean and bay that would otherwise have a short cut into the fresh water environment. close by there are two pumping stations that send fresh water to central valley farms and 25 million southern californians. if the snow pack was normal and reservoirs full normal water flows would keep the salt out but every drop held in reserve now is precious. >> we don't want to have to release anymore than we have. this barrier is an assurance policy. if we get tidal action that we are not expecting or a storm with winds that will prevent that salt from moving into the delta and disrupting the water

mark ibanez at raiders headquarters. they went with a wide receiver? >> reporter: yeah. i got to tell you, i am excited about this pick. i know they say defense wins championships. and offense is the glits. but for so long raider fans have been deprived of getting that real threat to score and they have got a big time receiver now in amare cooper. get a look at the highlights. number 9. out of alabama. scored 14 touchdowns last year. and was the best receiver in college football. one scout described him as the best available wide receiver and the raiders despite the fact they have jack del rio decided to go with amare cooper. looks like they have a great one. i will tell you one thing, they got one excited quarterback.

firefighters in fresno are waiting for a huge fire to burn itself out. the fire started before dawn near highway 99. firefighters said they were pouring 3,000 gallons of water per minute on the fire. investigators say they have pinpointed with the fire started but -- where the fire started but they don't know whether it was accidental or

deliberately set. it is effecting air quality. and oakland, flames raced through a medical marijuana growing business. it started at 12:15 a.m. this morning. firefighters say they found two large rooms inside filled with marijuana plants. the fire may have been started by lighting equipment used to grow the plants. bills introduced in the state assembly that could offer help for students at corinthian colleges. the legislation would wave community college fees for corinthian colleges students. and money to help them transfer and enroll in other programs. it would provide $100 per student for legal aid and it would restore calgrant eligibility. corinthian colleges closed on monday. today students returned to the campus to get their transcripts and try to figure out where they go from here. >> i feel angry and sad. upset.

the california highway patrol says a road race on a freeway ended when a car plunged into the bay about 11:00 a.m. this morning in south san francisco on 101. according to investigators two cars were racing on the north bound side of the freeway and crashed. no word on injuries. took an hour for a tow truck to drag the car from the water. oakland city budget is balanced. the mayor released a $2.42 billion year proposal for 2015 through 2017. the plan closes a $18 million funding gap. without making any cuts to city services or staffing levels. >> we still have work to do. i am excited our finances are stabilizing. that we are beginning to be

camp with a non-profit called hack the hood dedicated to bringing training to the intercity. >> they don't have the opportunities that we might have grown up with but they are motivated. >> reporter: a contest to see who creates the best website. >> this is actually for visit richmond. for people looking for things to do in richmond. but the goal is to learn more and find a job that will take them to a position in high tech. >> my hope is that i will get to work for a tech company like google or facebook. aiming for google because they are, like, dope. >> reporter: there is a shortage of computer technicians. >> we have to figure out ways to get more and more sections of society into that group of computer science trained people. >> reporter: they are learning about marketing, networking, design and the art of coding. >> what is your favorite part?
