saturday. 53 walnut creek. mid50s oakland. redwood at 57 -- 51 right now in nevado a few degrees or so as we get in to the second half of morning these clouds will pull back. by ten or 11 we stay partly to mostly cloudy the entire day. you get into the bay. the bay side cities and inland community also be sunny for the afternoon. upper 50s to low 60's at the coast. of 0's and 70 he around the bay and 70s inland. have you to get farther and closer to the central valley to see the low 80s. areas like antioch, oakley. areas like morgan hill and gilroy. better in terms of bringing the temperatures down. especially if its been to warm for you. before i go i will have a quick look at some of the numbers. 64 san francisco. going to 74freemont and 83 for antioch. temperatures will continue to cool in to the second part of the weekend. i will have a look at the

extended forecast. >> thank you. we are following developing news out of bay point. one person has died, another is in critical condition after officers say someone ran over nine people leaving a nightclub restaurant. it happened just before two this morning along port chicago highway. just outside of the restaurant. investigators say about 50 people were in the parking lot when it happened. >> when we arrived on scene we had nine to ten victims. hit by a reckless driver in the parking lot. we have had some witnesses who said that it was on purpose. >> fortes say that the driver is in custody. >> we are also following developing story in oakland where a demonstration in support of baltimore turned violent. close to 400 people took part in the rally. some stood face to face with police there in riot gear a group of protesters splintered

off and shattered windows. at dealerships along otto row. many are cleaning up the damage and some wondering whether this destruction could have been stopped. police brought in extra officers. there are peaceful demonstrations but then the violent outbursts happened. christine is live with a look at that damage. >> reporter: good morning. daylight is revealing more of the damage. we are on otto row near broadway and 30th. if you take a look the wind shields were smashed out but a couple of tires were slashed as well. we want to mention that a large majority of protesters last night remained peaceful. it was only a minority of that group that caused damage and if you were aggressive with one of our photographers last night. >> no cameras. >> reporter: that is video of

one of our photographers getting pushed and shoved by members in the protest. he wasn't hurt and is doing okay but the protesters started marching in the early afternoon and continued well into the night. they met a skirmish line and then headed to telegraph eventually going to broadway and piedmont. after that that's where things went downhill a few people started breaking windows and our crew followed the destruction as they broke out windows to about 20 to 30 new cars on the row and they broke windows to the dealerships too. we know at least one car was also set on fire. this is where police started making acts this he say in addition to the car dealerships there were businesses and banks hit likely because they were going offer corporations but this is not how the majority of peaceful protesters conducted

themselves. as they focused on raising awareness. >> standing of baltimore on behalf of baltimore. we want to look at what the community is doing. we should not be breaking windows and causing harm to the law enforcement. >> unfortunately that is the reality this morning of what we are seeing here in terms of the damage. another live look now at the broken glass of just one of the cars here. a lots of clean up ahead. that likely will come later today. thankfully nobody was hurt in last night's protest. live for us there in oakland. thank you for that report. may day protests were held across the bay area. in san francisco hundreds of people marched from the plaza

to the mission district. they said they marched for different causes including immigration reform. higher wages and against police brutality. police followed them but reported no problems. in san jose about 150 people took part in a peaceful rally. the crowd gathered at our lady of guadalupe church and walked three miles to san jose city hall. many people brought their children to the rally. demonstrators say they used the occasion to call for an end to deportation that result in families having to separate. >> more than 50 people were arrested last night in baltimore during a protest over the death of freddy gray. sir meshes broke out between demonstrators and baltimore police. yesterday six officers were charged with a range of crimes for gray's death. gray had a fatal spinal injury on april 12th while in police custody. last night protesters facing charges that include assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and violating the city's curfew. organizers of a march today say that it's now being called a

victory rally. >> as mayor i have said from the beginning that nobody is above the law in our city. i was sick sickened and heartbroken by the statement of charges. >> the six face various charges, one is accused of second degree murder. prosecutors say the officers illegally arrested gray and failed to properly secure him in a van where he apparently had a critical spinal injury that killed him. the six are out an bail a hearing is set for may 27th 27th. the president is weighing in on the arrest of the six officers in that case. >> it's my practice not to comment on the legal processes involved. that would not be appropriate. i can tell you that justice needs to be served. >> the president said that the officers are entitled to due process and that his administration will help make sure the truth comes out. he said he is waiting for

recommendations a task force they appointed to improve policing and police community relations. >> new this morning pittsburgh police say a homeowner shot and killed two people suspected of breaking into his home. it happened just after nine last night on jewitt avenue. this is the second time this week that someone has tried to rob that home. four people were arrested during the first attempt. police say they don't know if the two incidents are related. its been one week since the massive quake in nepal. government officials say they need more help from the international community. they say they need tents and tarps and survivers need basic food supplies. some areas still have not seen any aid. more than 6600 people were killed in the 7.8 quake. thousands more remain missing. a bay area nonprofit is hosting an event that will benefit the victims of the quake. its being held from six to 11 at the saint anne of the sunset

church in san francisco. the organization curry without worry is hosting the event and a team from the organization plans to leave for nepal in the next four weeks to serve freshly cooked meals. >> time is 7:10 and the long awaited boxing match is scheduled to start at approximately 8:15 tonight. the two took part in the official weigh in yesterday. pacio took the scale at 145 while mayweather was a found heavier the fight is sold out. stars at ring side will include clint east wood, ben affleck and justin bieber. pacio is a hero in his native hero. fox two -- shows us how they are preparing for fight night. >> reporter: it's called the fight of the century.

pres prosecutors have dropped charges against the hunt recused of starting a fire. the decision was announced yesterday following the death of two key witnesses. one died in a workplace accident. the other died of a heart attack. prosecutors don't believe they can prove the case without their testimony. the rim fire burned two months and caused $125 million in damage. some of of the people affected say they are shocked that the charges were dropped. the fire burned 11 homeos and nearly shut down the town of grove land in the heart of its tourist season. the husband and wife who own a deli say authorities were never likely to recover the $125 million it cost to put the rim fire out. >> for me if i started a giant fire that i would want to -- at least be out there and helping them -- replant the trees, doing something to make it better. some people we spoke to say the man allegedly responsible should consider moving out of

state. many in the community say if he sticks around he will be considered an outsider. >> the drought has led a city to reconsider its plans to build 1300 new homes. the pleasant on city council will consider if they will suspend a development north of stanley boulevard. it would have been the biggest development in the city. accord together times many residents have become angry about the plan saying now is not the time to build. especially with new water restrictions due to the drought. the official decision will come just days after the city will require homes and businesses to rebus water use by 25%. water parks across california are rethinking their operations because of the drought. to save water many of them are reducing showers -- or shutting down features, one splash park is delaying its opening two weeks until memorial day weekend and will decutting operating hours in hopes of

matter on businesses and then smashed store front windows. vandals shattered the windows to a few dozen cars and dealerships on broadway. oakland police say they arrested or siting more than a dozen people. more than 50 people were detained last night in baltimore. some of the protesters were afterred for fighting with police there. demonstrators say that a march set for today in baltimore will turn into a celebration. they say the demonstrations this past week pressured prosecute es to file criminal charges against six officers for the death of gray last month. police say a homeowner shot and killed two people suspected of breaking in to his house. it happened just after nine. this is the second time this week that someone has tried to rob the home. four people were arrested during that first attempt. police say they don't know if the two incidents are related. >> all right. 7:31. it feels like summer.

you have low along the peninsula we have 57 in redwood and -- right now in san jose. as we get in to the second half of the morning nine or so -- the pull back from the north bay. east bay starts to clear out some. ten even better. the second half of the day along the coast not going to go away. we will have that low cloud and fog cover for the day. inland you can see we have mostly clear skies, temperatures in the 70's. even a few low 80s for today. the faa and ntsb are -- that was forced to make an emergency landing. the flight took off yesterday morning. the pilot declared an emergency half an hour later and had to return to maui. a passenger from walnut creek sent us these photographs of

the plane after it landed safely. they said the problem started after takeoff and said it sounded like the landing gear kept running. he later smelled smoke in the cabin. >> nobody knew what was going on. then the pilot was so scared and -- he was stotterring. he couldn't really talk straight. he tried to sound calm. he said i will get you back on the ground. >> two passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. there were 224 passengers on board that plane. they were given the option of taking a later flight home or staying at a local hotel for the night. two flights including one from sfo was diverted to hawaii because of that emergency. there is a beef and it's still closed after a deadly

shark attack. the woman killed was from the bay area. her bott was found wednesday morning. the injuries consistent with a shark attack. cruz grew up in the bay area and moved to hawaii 15 years ago. her brother said that she was known for her spirit and her love for the outdoors. >> police are asking for help this morning to find a hit and run driver who struck a young child. police sent us this photograph of a box truck captured by a surveillance camera. they say the driver hit a 3- year-old boy in front of a park on thursday. he was with his mother. police say that the boy had nonlife threatening injuries. flinn with information about this case is asked to call the police. livermore police say that two reports of sexual assault on a hiking trail were fake. police confirmed that both of the people who said they were attacked on the trail recanted

their stories. investigators say that the false reports put the community on edge and forced officers to put real cases on hold. >> all of our detectives are out there, patrol officers, crime scene techs are out there. that was for several days. they were working this case. so there is no way to say how much money that police spent but -- clearly it's a major undertaking. >> even though the reports were fake police say that people should always be aware of their surroundings and walk with another person. >> police in santa rosa are warning people act a scam at the gas pump. thieves have been moving the gas hose from one side to the other and then they wait for the victim to pull in and when the victim pays the gas goes to the thief. they try to distract the victim while the gas is being pumped. >> your tires look low and they -- go over and start looking around not noticing their gas is -- being taken. >> this is happening and it

could happen to anyone. just be aware. people need to be aware of what's going on. >> a surveillance camera from inside the gas station in santa rosa shows the two men suspected of stealing that gas. video from outside shows them pulling up to the pump in a white van. now you may have noticed the price of gas is going back up again here in the bay area. in just the past few days the price of region leaded fuel rose 11-cents. the reason, analysts say some refineries are doing maintenance work and cutting back on production. >> new, the president repeating a commitment that every child needs to receive a quality education. >> the global economy we have to help ensure that everybody of every age in every zip code has the chance to learn the skills that led to -- lead to a good job. >> he delivered his address from a public library in washington dc.

he said his education push involves free books for low income students, free tew -- tuition, connecting students to high speed internet and encouraging more to spend time reading. >> started as a pain in her arm and then miley's family got the diagnosis that she had cancer. it has been emotional but they say the support has been overwhelming. her father is a firefighter and that firefighter family is coming together to show her she is not going through this fight alone. >> reporter: the game is about getting the puck in the net. these hockey players are more focused on that little girl. it takes a half second to see why. >> my dad is a little funny.

she smiles even when she talks about cancer. >> it's something that's fighting your body. so -- we have to get medicine to fight it back. >> the world starts spinning and hasn't stopped. >> only way to describe it is a sledgehammer to the stomach. knocks the wind out of you and just -- you can't tribe it. you can't. words can't tribe it. >> reporter: they struggle to describe the support they have gotten. her father is a firefighter and when she was diagnosed he asked for a few days off. >> that was on a friday. i called them sunday morning and said did you get the shifts covered and he said we will see you in may. they got three and a half months covered. that's in 20 minutes. >> reporter: then other wheels started turning. >> we had a game and that was eight weeks ago. >> reporter: a game a game of hockey by firefighters who have held charity games before but who say this one is different. >> i work with scotty a long

to the throne behind her uncle, father and brother. her name has not been released. the bottled water sold in starbucks comes from california and expects say that could be making our drought situation worse. according to the washington post the water is taken from merced and baxter both areas hit hard by the drought. the spring that provide the water are private but others say that is still affecting cities. they say if the water is pulled out before making to downstream users it limits their supply. people in merced say the practice of diverting freshwater to be bottled in the middle of the drought should be frowned on. also a man from california is suing millercoors claim that the company tricked him into thinking blue moon is a craft beer. the lawsuit states that the premium price tag -- placement among other craft beers in advertisements falsely show it

amount of damage here on otto road. tires were slashed, wind shields blown out by the windows, the windows to these dealerships were blown out. with in the past hour we have seen even more damage along broadway at the honda dealership a crew is already boarding up for the windows used to be and we are told about 21 windows there were smashed out because they are so big they can cost about $7,000 to replace. are you looking at $140,000 for that one dealership alone. this work is going to continue. not only at honda but at gm and other dealerships here along broadway. we want to say this damage was caused by a minority with in the group of about 400 that marched last night through the streets. they met at 9 and the broadway. turned and headed to telegraph. their purpose was to protest police brutality. many who were participating and were not a part of the violence

price for a regular gallon of region leaded rose 11-cents. it's up more than 40-cents. the reason, some refineries are doing maintenance and cutting back on production. here is a quick look at where we stand across the bay area. drivers are paying for gas just about $3.80 a gallon. in san jose it's $3.68 and oakland $3.65s. >> federal prosecutors have dropped the charges against the hunter accused of starting the wildfire that burned 400 square miles of yosemite in 2013. that was announced yesterday after the deaths of two key witnesses. one died in a workplace accident. the other died of a heart attack. prosecutors say they don't believe they can prove their case without the witnesses. the rim fire burned for about two months and caused $125 million in damage. some of the people affected say they are shocked that the charges were dropped. not only did that fire burn 11 homes but it nearly shut down the town of grove land in the

immigration reform, higher wages and protesting against police brutal. and in san jose about 150 people took part in a peaceful may day rally. the crowd gathered at our lady of guadalupe church. many people brought their children. demonstrators used the occasion to call for an end to deportations that have resulted in families having to separate. baltimore's mayor announced the city's curfew will remain in effect until at least tonight. 50 people were arrested as skirmishes broke out between demonstrators and police. last night's protestors are facing various charges that include assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and violenting the city -- violating the city's overnight curfew. organizers of a march today say it's being called a victory rally to celebrate the charges being filed. >> as mayor, i have said from the beginning that no one is

as the mayor stated, we have two jobs when it comes to public safety, and the first being the protection of human life, and the second being the protection of property, whether in a crowd control scenario or in regular everyday crime fighting we always prioritize human life above property, and as the mayor said we do feel that we did a good job yesterday as far as protecting human life. however, obviously it did not go well in regard to protecting property. i've met with my command staff last night and will do so again in the coming days to carefully analyze our response last night and learn what lessons we can and make needed improvements to prevent the type of destruction that we saw last night. prior to yesterday's events, the oakland police department

had responded to 12 unpermitted demonstrations so far this year between november 24th and the end of last year we responded to 26 different demonstration events. we do get a lot of experience at this and most of them go very well without the destruction we saw last night or without injury to anyone. yesterday our department responded to events throughout the day beginning at 5:30 in the morning and obviously culminated in the marchs that occurred last night. we had officers assigned to each of these events including the first friday event along telegraph avenue. however, last night as night fell, a group of approximately 3 to 400 people began marching toward the police administration building and then towards china town, that march very quickly became ugly,

coast we actually cooled it down yesterday. the onshore breeze and the fog came back strong. 54 in half moon bay right now. 55 in san francisco, and we've got 60s in areas like concord, walnut creek and livermore. our onshore breeze to strengthen in areas through fairfield. there's an indication that we have cooler weather coming your way. for most of us we started out cooler than where we were yesterday morning this morning. after highs for today, low 60s in pacifica, 64 for san francisco, upper 60s expected in areas like oakland and hayward, if you are going out to watch the horse races at golden gate, you will have upper 60s in the forecast for the afternoon. low 80s in the forecast in areas like antioch, livermore, but some of those spots hit 90 yesterday. it's going to feel pretty good. >> don't forget the golf tournament out there. >> thanks roads mary. what started as a pain in her arm, and then 6-year-old miley

mccary's family got the devastating diagnosis she had cancer. it has been an emotional few months but they say support has been very overwhelming. miley's father is an oakland firefighter and claudine has the story of how his firefighter family is now coming together to help. >> the game is all about getting the puck in the net, but these hockey players are more focused on that little girl watching them through the glass. >> i like skating. >> you do? >> 6-year-old miley sometimes just goes by miley miley, and it takes just about a half second to see why. >> my daddy's a little bit funny. >> she smiles even when she talks about the cancer that could take her arm. >> back home it's like something fighting your body so we had to get medicine to fight it back. >> doctors diagnosed miley with ewing sarcoma, a bone cancer.

it's been exactly one week since the massive earthquake hit nepal. government officials say they need more help from the international community. they say they need tents and tarps and that survivors need basic food supplies like grains, salts and sugar. more than 6600 people were killed in the 7.8 magnitude quake. thousands of people are still missing. businesses in downtown oakland will have to assess their losses following last night's vandalism spree by people protesting against police brutality. the day-long rally started peacefully but then turned violent when a group of protestors spray painted the words black lives matter on businesses and then smashed numerous storefront windows. the vandals also shattered the windows on a dozen new cars at dealerships. the honda dealership says it will cost $140,000 to repair 21 store windows that were shattered just about 20 minutes ago we carried live a news conference from oakland mayor

libby shaft about violent outbursts from protestors. >> a very small group of people with rocks in their pockets and malice in their hearts disturbed what was otherwise a very positive day in oakland. and the result was significant damage to businesses in our civil center and in our auto row. >> the city did a good job in protecting people but did not do a good job in protecting people. she says this type of violence cannot be tolerated in the city and promises she and other city leaders will re-examine what can be done in the future. the faa and the ntsb are investigating a flight from hawaii to oakland that was forced to make an emergency landing in maui. the hawaiian airlines -- the pilot declared an emergency half an hour later and had to

return to maui. jim crotca was a passenger on that plight. he called it -- of that flight. he called it a hard landing. the pilots evacuated passengers by deploying emergency slides. the problems started shortly after takeoff and it sounded like the landing gear just kept running. he later smelled smoke in the cabin. >> after a while nobody knew what was going on, and then the pilot came on and the pilot was so scared. i mean he was stuttering and he couldn't really talk straight. , and he tried to sound calm. he said okay i'm going to get you guys back on the ground. >> according to hawaiian airlines the crew returned to the airport because of an odor of fumes. two passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. there were 224 passengers on board that flight. they were given the option of taking a later flight home or staying at a hotel there for the night. two flights to maui including one from sfo were diverted to honolulu because of the

san francisco and contra costa counties are among california's fastest growing with the bay area's strong economy, each grew at a pace of 1.3%. in terms of cities san jose is now home to 1,016,000 people. san francisco 845,000 and oakland 410,000. dublin and milpitas are in the state's top ten fastest growing cities. both have shown growth around 4%. a martinez police department canine is retiring and the community is pulling together the money to replace him. according to the contra costa times,s martinez police department will only have one trained k-9. a replacement police dog will cost the city $10,000 so some people who live in martinez started a go fund me account to help raise the money for that new dog. so far a total of $3415 has been raised. he's the newest face in

and it's been blowing to 32 miles per hour, at least the gusts the entire morning long. we had that cool air pushing farther inland. the marine layer is deeper. it moved farther into the overnight hours. all these combined going to help bring our temperatures down for our inland cities today. for your morning, partly cloudy skies. areas of fog out there. we do have areas of fog, especially along the coastline, and i think at the coast we're going to be mostly cloudy the entire day. a cooler afternoon, again, as i mentioned many of us began to feel it yesterday. it will be our inland cities that feel it today. and then we have subtle changes in the forecast as we get into the extended forecast. a slight cooldown expected as we get into the second part of your weekend. i'll have a look at those numbers in just a little bit. right now 61 degrees outside your in livermore. 67 in walnut creek. over parts of the north bay, napa 53, 52 in santa rosa where we've had low clouds and fog this morning. temperatures haven't moved yet. we have the sunshine, you can definitely tell the difference. we've got 60s here.
