driver? >> reporter: yes. brian jones was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of dui and manslaughter while intoxicated. he has another dui. he pleaded no contest in 2003 to a misdemeanor dui case. there the is a growing -- there is a growing memorial where he hit and killed a mother and child and injured two youngs by after getting behind the wheel drunk. >> reporter: there are not enough words to express the grief felt after a drunk driver plowed into this apartment as the family gathered to celebrate a confirmation. he was hit by flying debris. right now. the driver hit and killed esperanza morales and her 14- month-old daughter as they walked on a path at the apartment complex. brian jones of livermore had a blood alcohol twice the legal limit. police confirm he was that livermore wine country festival in the 94 crash. but don't -- in the hours before the crash. but don't know where he went between 5:00 p.m. and the crash before 7:00 p.m. saturday night. brian jones posted bail but there was no answer when we stopped by his home. >> it will be a tough road for brian for a long time. >> reporter: their lives changed forever. >> we don't want him to be out doing this to more families. hurting more fammies. killing more -- families. killing more people. >> reporter: jones is expected

support. . >> thank you. silicon valley is morning the death of a pioneer. we learned today david goldberg died from head trauma while exercising on a vacation in mexico. ktvu's azenith smith is live at survey monkey where he was the ceo. >> reporter: frank, he collapsed while at a gym. it was his brother who found him unresponsive near a treadmill and they are reporting he died of head trauma. as you can imagine it mood here is somber. >> reporter: several reports calling the death of surveymonkey ceo david goldberg an accident. the 47-year-old on vacation with his wife when he collapsed

after exercising on friday. they announced the death on facebook. they said the company is heartbroken. >> he was very gracious. everyone that i know that knew him talked highly about the way he led people. >> reporter: he met him in 1994 when david goldberg sold his company to yahoo. he said he was a leader who represented the heart and soul of silicon valley. facebook ceo justin u.k -- mark zuckerberg said he was an amazing person i am glad i got to know him. >> a champion for people succeeding. you looked up to him. >> reporter: she called him a true partner. back in march he wrote on facebook how proud he was of

people in the east bay are talking about yesterday's earthquake. the fault had about had a quake that large in 15 years. ktvu's john fowler tells us it comes as you can now by earthquake insurance for less. >> reporter: the epicenter here in concord. many people described it as a sharp jolt. >> there is the earthquake. house went bang. >> reporter: he says the fault capable of a magnitude 6.5 or bigger hasn't had a felt quake in 15 years. >> concord has been unshaken except for the napa earthquake last august that surprised us all. >> reporter: this program shows the bay area crisscrossed by active faults. and these are the more active faults. there are dozens more not on

an organizer of the protest in oakland friday says he is not upset with those who damaged more than 60 cars and vandalized businesses. >> i can't equate human life with broken glass. >> today businesses are still cleaning up and we wanted to know if the people responsible are facing justice. ktvu's cristina rendon is in oakland. despite the arrests it doesn't appear anyone will be charged with vandalism. why not? >> reporter: frank, right now officers say even though they arrested a dozen people it doesn't appear the ones who did the vandalism were caught by police and that has business owners upset. you can see this sign, it was posted by one of the owners this afternoon. >> reporter: oakland turned into repair road.

they are cleaning up the damage left behind from vandals friday night. >> everybody has the right to freedom of speech. there is issues why people are out there but only takes a few bad apples that are tearing up everybody's property and the message is lost in the damage. >> reporter: oakland police say 13 people were sited or arrested. 9 for failure to disperse. one for assault on an officer. one for having tools of violence. he doesn't understand why police didn't arrest people on the spot as soon as they started breaking glass. >> doesn't surprise me -- [ indiscernible ] >> i just -- it is bad. >> reporter: at the time the

crowd was hostile. the organizer of the protest understands business owners are upset but he says that doesn't compare to the violence the black community sees every day. >> they can still run and business and still make money. people lose their lives and that is irreplaceable. >> reporter: these business owners feel like they are being punished. >> we are the good guys. why would you want to tear us up? we are not doing anything wrong. >> reporter: police say investigators are reviewing the cases of the people who were arrested or sited and some of the cases will be forwarded to the district attorney office for review. if those people are charged then we will find out their identities. who they are.

the san francisco muni system should soon see improvements. money will receive a win fall in its next budget. ktvu's rob roth is live in the city now with more on where all this money is coming from and where it will be going. rob? >> reporter: it is still the heart of the evening commute and many people are hopping on buses and trains to get home. while many people complain about muni, help is on the way.

>> reporter: passengers say getting to work on time is a hit or miss. >> a lot of people rely on muni. they are not on time everybody else is messed up. >> reporter: muni is about to receive $48 million in the budget thanks to proposition b that voters approved last november to fund improvements. leaders say the improved economy also helped. >> that is a great thing for the 8th largest transportation center in the country. >> reporter: leaders say half will be part of a fund going towards buying new street cars and buses. the buses will require less maintenance and will help ease over crowding. >> you are squished. >> reporter: and it improves their on time performance.

drought. they store carbon from the air and provide food for skirls, deers and birds. -- squirrels, deers and birds. officials say they have seen 38% more kittens dropped off that shelter than at this time last year. unfixed female cats go into heat during the summer. the drought with warm winter weather led to the surge in kittens being dropped off. officials are looking for volunteers to hem foster -- to help foster kittens. those interested should contact the oakland animal shelter. bill martin said it would be great if we got rain but you have been saying that for months. >> every week.
