particular on ramp you'll see delays. go back to the desk. okay thank you sal. more police officers could be added after days of violent protests in downtown. >> i'm excited that this year assuming that the council passes my budget we will be hiring more police officers so we will have more resources to respond and manage these types of incidents. >> today oakland mayor will ask the city council to add 40 officers to it's force bringing the total to 762 over the next two years and the highest number of officers since 2010. the plan would cost the city $6.7 million. business owners in downtown oakland say it's too little too late. they are growing more and more frustrated with the oakland police department. one business owner put this sign up. it reads opd, you failed. he had two of his store front

windows shattered by protestors friday night. the latest sand lizm is by far the worst. >> you go up and down the block and see damage and nothing was done to prevent it. if it doesn't get better i will leave the city. >> the city is working with business owners to help them make repairs as quickly as possible for permit fees and building requirements a review of the response is under way. three people were cited and arrested failure to disperse assault on an officer possessing tools of violence burglary and pub inintoxication. the stepdaughter of a police officer is recovering after accidentally shooting herself with her stepfather's gun. it happened at 3 yesterday afternoon at their home. the 13-year-old girl shot herself with the personally owned gun and not his service

weapon. the police department is now investigating the shooting. >> there are laws that govern the storage of weapons, firearms specifically. the circumstances involved in this case i'm really not sure at this point. >> police say the case will be sent to the district attorney's office when their investigation is complete. this morning for the second year in a row a group called the patriots will hold american flags and demonstrate live outside oak high school. the school gained national attention on cinco de mayo back in 2010 the school orders four students wearing american flag t-shirts to turn their shirts inside out worried about racial violence. the parents filed a lawsuit that went to the superior court. in march the superior court up held the administrators decision. police in the south bay are getting ready for big crowds at their cinco de mayo celebration.

thousands are expected to pack the street that's downtown san jose today. businesses say it's the biggest day of the year. they stocked up with thousands of bottles of beer and hundreds of gallons of tequila. police will be out in full force to keep things from getting rowdy like they have in years past. >> we'll have plenty of officers to let people snow not to start trouble. >> no matter what day of the week it is monday or saturday it's going to be busy. people are going to come out and celebrate. >> san jose police say they will have extra officers on the street. officers arrested 44 people during the weekend leading up to the big day. law enforcement agencies across the area will be out in full force looking for drunk driving. buzz driving is drunk driving signs out. the police officer says having more officer on the streets is

welcome back. time now 4: 13 and the man accused of hitting and killing a mother and her 14 month old daughter will face a judge today. he was driving drunk when he lost control of his car saturday night. the car crashed into the back yard of a home. a woman and her 14 month old daughter were killed. two other young kids were also injured. jones had been at the livermore wine country festival before the crash. his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit. the islamic state group claiming responsibility for the attack at a contest in texas

for small businesses. companies with more than 55 employees would be required to pay $14.44 an hour on july 1. yearly increases are also built into that proposal. a new survey out has many wondering if traditional retirement. they will never be able to quit working. 82% of the workers surveyed plan to work beyond the age of 65 and may never retire. 44% of workers worry this will out live their savings and reat another time. the group behind the study says employers need to recover the way they view their staffing understanding that many aging workers plan to stay on the job. set to get a $48 million financial boost. the new money part of a proposed budget. mayor ed lee will present to the board of supervisors from proportion b approved by voters last november. the money will pay for buses
