let's move along to the san mateo bridge. the traffic looks good heading out to the high-rise no, ma'am major issues. i did find slow traffic to you on 580 westbound. i want to warn you about a road closure here on wood side road. so it was an auto accident last night. it really damaged a power pole that replacing it there are detours set up. i put more traffic on skyline and people might actually avoid wood side road it's actually a good idea. let's go back to the desk. business owners in oakland are becoming more and more frustrated with oakland's police force. it follows the violent protests friday night and a lot of damage. tara moriarty is live in oakland with more on the proposal that could add more officers to help fight the crime. tara. >> reporter: the owner of this hyundai dealership says if things do not get better in

oakland soon that businesses will pack up and leave and he's one of them. if you look around this car lot you can see why he is so frustrated. this is a bashed in window here. there is graffiti sprayed on the car hoods. one car was set on fire. all the work of protestors. the owner says some of this damage is not covered by insurance. some of the deductibles too high. eric says 70-80 cars were targeted. his store front windows on broadway shattered. and in frustration he posted a sign saying opd you failed us again. but that night splinter groups from the demonstrators against police brutality caught some of the worse destruction they have ever seen. >> you go up and down and you see much more damage and i thinking to was done to prevent it. if that doesn't get better, i think many will come through. >> reporter: mayor schaaf is

apologizing to business owners that were targeted by vandals and is promising change. >> we were very frustrated friday night by our inability to completely execute the plan that we had in place. we are doing a full evaluation of our tactics of how we respond that night and we are look for new tools. >> one of those new tools tonight schaaf will go before the council and ask for 40 more officers. that would bring the total number of offices to 762 over the next two years. the plan would cost $1.6 million. >> certainly a story we will continue to follow. thank you, tara. 6:04 is the time now. the stepdaughter of a gilroy police officer is recovering after accidentally shooting herself with her stepfathers gun. it happened around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. police say the 13-year-old girl shot herself in the leg with

the officers personal gun not his service revolver. the gilroy police department is investigating that shooting. >> there are laws that govern the storage of weapons. firearms specifically. the circumstances involved in this case i'm not sure about. >> the case will be sent to the district attorneys office when their investigation is complete. the girl was given first said. take to the hospital with noninjury. police anticipate big crowds at cinco de mayo celebrations. thousands expected in downtown san jose packing the streets, packing the bars. business owners say it's their busiest day of the year. they have been stacking up on hundreds of bottles of tequila and beer. >> we are going to have plenty

festival before that crash. but gave no proof to support that claim. one of the men accused attack says on the fbi's radar actually since 2006. he was charged with lying to a federal agent but never served any jail time. police are still searching the phoenix apartment where the two men lived. the fbi is trying to figure out if the men acted alone or in connection with an international terror group. testimony scheduled to continue today in a sentencing phase of the boston marathon bombing trial yesterday convicted boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev showed emotion for the first time in court. he actually cried as his aunt

sobbed on the witness stand. five of tsarnaev's family members testified on his behalf. he now faces the possibility of the death penalty. the city council will vote on whether to raise the minimum wage. planning to raise to $12.25 an hour on july 1st. the companies that have more than 55 employees they would have to pay $14.44 an hour. annual increases in the minimum wage are built into that proposal. there is a new survey out. they all never be able to stop working. 82% of the workers surveyed plan to work beyond the age of 65 and may never retire at all.

44% of workers across all ages say they worry they are going to out live their savings and their investments. now the group behind the study the transamerica center for retirement studies says employers need to reconsider how they view their staffs. understanding that many aging workers plan to stay on the job. san francisco muni is set to get a $48 million boost. the new money is part of the proposed budget mayor lee will present to the board of supervisors. it comes from proposition b approved by voters last november to help fund muni improvements. now the money will pay for new buses and metro cards as well as bike and pedestrian signal upgrades and street improvements it's early on cinco de mayo but sal is still watching the roads. highway 24 and everything else. >> yes we are starting there and westbound 24 it's looking

their respects and a memorial is growing outside his home. his funeral is expected later this week. san francisco police officers being praised this morning for reuniting a man with the stolen ashes of the late wife. phillip's 1997 honda civic was stolen last week. inside the ashes of his wife amy who died of cancer earlier this year. he had driven to the city from new mexico. he was on his way to oregon to scatter her ashes. a police officer who saw the story told high school hollenbeck he pledged to go to work and find that car. he did. >> i've hardly been able to sleep. i was just kind of getting past the shock of my wife passing and it's still a long process. i still have a long ways to go.

>> his suitcase, his notebooks, his drum, and the title to his car they are all missing along with some of the writings of his wife. he plans to be searching golden gate park and the surrounding areas to hoping to find the missing items. two selfie taking tourists could face charges after breaking a priceless marble statue in northern italy. this photo from a local newspaper has been circulating on social media. take a look at the ground. the piece of the statue's crown collapsed under the weight of the men and shattered into pieces. the statue which is considered an emblem of the city was created in the early 1700s. >> wow. two more east contra costa county fire stations will close in a couple of days from now. the other cuts that could happen after a parcel tax to

we focus on contra costa county. 680 still looks good to the walnut creek interchange. let's go back to the desk. 30 minutes from now protestors will be in front of a morgan hill high school where there was a big controversy five years ago on cinco de mayo. a group of teenagers wore t- shirts with the american flag and school officials had to tell them they had to turn the shirts inside out. janine de la vega is joining us live from morgan hill. anything happening out there mow? >> not quite yet. in the next couple of minutes we expected to see the group called the morgan hill patriots showing up. they will be holding a peaceful rally. they disagreed with the actions. here's some video of last years rally held by the patriots where you can see them holding american flags. this controversy stems from 2010 when several live oak high school students decided to wear

t-shirts with american flags on cinco de mayo. school staff told the boys they needed to turn the shirts inside out because they could spark an incident. at the time they said live oak was experiencing gang related tensions between white and latino students. ruled the district was justified in how it handled the students. the supreme court in march recently declined to hear another appeal. live oak high school principal is aware of the rally this morning. here's what he had to say a few minutes ago to us. >> all that have occurred since 2010 have been great days on campus. kids get along fine. they are aware of the presence of the press today of the group that will show up and they are basically veterans of that event from last year. that day ran fine and this day will as well. >> reporter: police are out in front of the campus this morning to reroute school traffic so social security not

service to customers in tara lin da after a driver crashed into at & t vault. it happened around 1:45 sunday morning. a suspected drunk driver lost control and hit two vaults and a street sign. it's not clear when service will be restored to all customers. time is 6:37. people in east contra costa county are learning the relate how they will be effected by budget cuts after they failed to pass a parcel tax to pay for fire services. last night an over flow crowd of a couple hundred people packed this meeting. the east contra costa fire district laid out plans to move ahead. their fire district which used to have eight stations five years ago will soon have only three. fire district voted to close the downtown brentwood, and nights and fire houses effective on monday. the president of the

firefighters union says service calls that don't require heights and sirens, they will also possibly be cut. >> the biggest fear is people are going to die. someone is going to have an emergency and there is going to be no one there to help them. and i'm just talking about every day emergencies. >> they will be staffed with three firefighters each. the president of the firefighters union says that leaves nine firefighters serving an area to cover 100,000 people every day. although east contra costa county property owners avoided paying the new parcel tax, we are learning they now could be hit with higher fire insurance rates. >> and in some cases it could be to the point where we the company itself can insure you and it would have to go to a fair plan and now we are talking thousands of dollars above what we would call a standard premium. >> a company that tells

insurers how tolerate risk they tell the fire district that homes will be rerated and charged with that greater risk. properties on bethel island be hit the hardest. the state water resources control board will consider a proposal to require 25% cut in water use in cities statewide. the water board says it is responding to governor jerry brown's executive order last month. the 25% reduction many in water use would only apply to urban areas. the drought is also having an impact on oakland's kitten population. the oakland animal shelter has seen a 38% increase in the number of kittens. borickers say the drought and warmer weather led female cats to having babies earlier this year and more. the shelter is looking for volunteers to help foster the kittens until they are old enough to be spayed or neutered

238 as you head down to the tennis son road area. let's bring in today's forecast with steve. we have some low clouds around yesterday. i mean it was wide spread made it all the way out to sacramento which is a heck of a push. today there is some but there are many breaks in it but it is cold. there is a lot of 40s and a few upper 30s. there is still going to be even though it's sunny today we'll have a little bit more sunshine. and jim says i may not be the voice of lake county, but on kolb mountain i have 39-degrees with high clouds and nice spring morning. we also had a 39-degree reading in roanoke park. see the low clouds right there. the sierra nevada is very active and will only get more so. 43 for santa rosa. 40s novato. redwood city down to 45 and close for others. antonio in daly city 50-degrees with clear skies.

that was not the case yesterday. and a very strong or fresh ten miles an hour sea breeze. with the cold ocean temps and this kind of pattern it's chilly on the temps here. 22 gusting to 28-30 at travis. and 25 at concord there is a westerly breeze. west, southwest. west, southeast. not as bad as yesterday. those wept down from yesterday. that is a good sign. 43 in arcadia. 27 up in truckee. 4 at blue -- 49 at blue canyon. it is so cool it's getting chewed up. this low moves in and starts to drop south and south and may get really close to us. so or sun this morning. it is a cold morning for this time of year. breezy to windy.

it will be mostly sunny. as the low moves in we will see the possibility of more clouds. and maybe higher elevations. it could be interesting. this is on wednesday afternoon. probably not here but up in the sierra. and look at that early thursday morning paints some over us. especially santa clara valley. and another round will swing in on thursday. again it doesn't mean it will happen but it does mean it's close enough we have to mention it. fog and sun and cool to nice here. more sun today but still breezy. blustery at times and windy. 60s and 70s. a little better on the coast today but not that much warmer. it will be warmer in san francisco and oakland and around the bay. but 70s even for inland areas. these are below average. 60s around the bay. even upper 60s or very low 70s. 50s and 60s on the coast and 60s wade spread on the peninsula. better tomorrow and mostly cloudy thursday and friday. maybe some showers.
