[ indiscernible ] >> reporter: we could hear the crews working on the repairs between the 16th complete to civic center station -- street and civic center station. caused some fans to arrive late to the giants game at at&t park. >> we had a delay. then we have to wait at b.a.r.t. station for i don't know how long. >> reporter: just in time for fans to go home the repairs were done.

>> we believe people should plan on having this bleed into the evening commute. >> reporter: because delays are expected to last through the evening commute. >> reporter: if you take b.a.r.t. you know on good days the trains are crowded. yesterday there were 443,000 riders. today they are expecting it to be more crowded, so crowded they might keep people out till there is more room for them. >> have you had a chance to see what things are like right now? >> reporter: i was down there about 40 minutes ago and things were just starting to get back to -- i don't want to say normal because it won't be normal for a while, but it was certainly different than it was earlier today where you had one station a crowd of people, civic center who were going no, where waiting around and then we come here to 16th 16th

street and it was a ghost town. >> thank you. as bad as things were in san francisco, there was a power outage near the bay fair station. our team coverage continues with ktvu's john sasaki who is that station tonight. john? >> reporter: this has been a messy day for b.a.r.t. and people in the east bay who depend on the system. we got here around the time it was resolved but yet there is still a back up of trains and delayed commuters. hundreds of people just waiting. a train was stopped for 20 minutes before it was allowed to proceed. we saw two trains in the opposite direction. that means people were late. but from commuters to one man waiting for his wife, everyone was taking this problem in stride. >> going where? >> embarcadero. >> whats the been like?

earthquakes this morning. the biggest was 3.5. in pleasant hill he says the earthquake knocked this branch off this tree. he sent us this photo. he lived here 25 years. >> yeah. surprised because, i mean, the whole time i never seen trees break like that. >> reporter: it did little damage. he acknowledged the branch was weak but the quakes have people on edge. >> i felt many in the bay area, i don't know why there is so many in this area. i don't know what it means, hopefully nothing bad. >> reporter: today's earthquake is part of a swarm that started sunday and probably will not trig arbigger one -- trigger a bigger one. . >> the earthquakes are really small. >> reporter: so small they can't pinpoint them well enough to know if they are on the main fault or a sprinter fault.

democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton is in san francisco raising money for her run for the white house. she has two fundraisers today but she made a stop earlier this afternoon where you didn't have to pay. ktvu's paul chambers has more. >> reporter: this is the third protest against hillary clinton today. this time it is climate change activists. there is about 20 people. you can see 8, 10 there. they would like her to talk about the key stone pipeline but she in town to raise money for her campaign. a look that video here. she was here two hours ago. she met with mayor ed lee. we were not allowed to ask questions but sat in while they

they gave you the address. we do not know the exact address. >> somewhere behind you. all right. >> reporter: i didn't say -- out here somewhere. >> all right. paul chambers in san francisco, thank you. the nfl said the footballs used by the new england patriots during the afc championship game against the colts were deflated and that new england patriots quarterback tom brady was generally aware of it. the question is, what if any thacks league will take. -- action the league will take. they went on to win the super bowl. the nfl released the report into allegations the patriots deflated the footballs. the colts complained about the footballs during the game but the patriots said the cold weather was effecting the air pressure. after the game tom brady took questions from reporters insisting there was no tampering. >> reporter: is tom brady a cheater? >> i don't believe so. i feel like i always played

within the rules. >> nfl investigators found 11- 12 footballs were below the league limit. the report says locker room attendant took the already approved footballs into a bath room next to the field and was in there long enough to deflate them. some of the interesting parts are text messages send. for example, one conversation dates back to may 9, 2014. he writes let's make a dete. help the deflater, chill, buddy i am just messing with you. i am not going to espn yet. october 17 after tom brady complained about the inflation level of the football, he text again saying tom sucks. i am going to make the next ball a balloon. tom brady did answer questions from nfl investigators but did not share his text and e-mails

with investigators. in the next report the nfl investigators note communications immediately after suspicions were raised. this led investigators to determine it is more probably than not that tom brady was generally aware of the activities. patriots owner blasted blasted the report. but he said the team would accept the findings and any disciplinary action. we posted the report on www.ktvu.com so you can read more of the text and see more of the evidence that lead to the nfl's conclusion. fifth bat tested positive for rabies in the east bay this year. they said the bat was acting strange when they arrived. you can see on your screen, that is the picture of the latest bat that was found. animal control was worried since four other bats were

been pulled out. they have been called in to keep the peace after the death of freddie gray. six officers were indicted. the mayor asked investigators to look into whether the city's police discriminates or use excessive force. new information on the whale that washed ashore on sharp park beach in pacifica. they say the whale was longer than first reported, 42 feet and that it was older than first reported, it is an adult female. scientists today found the whale had four broken vertebrae and a broken rib. the injuries could mean it was hit by a ship but they are not sure so the cause will likely remain unknown. shooting down googling plan for a new -- google's plan for a new campus. today the city counsel approved just one of the four sites

proposed. but they okayed proposals by other developers. they are concerned about the economic reliance on google. someone shot three people with paint balls last night in two different locations minutes apart. the first incident happened about 8:30 p.m. a man walking with his wife was hit in the hip. 3 minutes later two people were hit. all three were hit with green paint balls. they describe the car as a gold colored sedan, 15 years old. the suspects could be charged with misdemeanor battery. a difficult day for san jose police. what the department did to make sure the family of a fallen officer doesn't feel alone. and a lawsuit filed against former 49ers defensive lineman ray mcdonald and the other player it may involve. >> and a developing story in

be late. a broken track in san francisco caused major delays. you see that chunk of rail that broke. a dollar is to show you how big it was. that forced b.a.r.t. to run on a single track and it was fixed and service was restored this afternoon. there was over crowding along market street stations but the crowds are getting smaller. b.a.r.t. trains were did the in the east bay -- delayed in the east bay because of a power outage. police are remembering their fallen officers today as a part of national peace officers memorial week. ktvu's azenith smith tells us this year it is especially difficult. >> reporter: every year in may san jose police come together to honor their brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate sacrifice ultimate sacrifice -- paid the ultimate sacrifice. >> reporter: 12 police officers

support and let them know, you know, they are not the only ones that i was there for. >> reporter: officers of san jose police stand tall, proud of the uniform, and reminding their loved ones they are not alone. azenith smith, ktvu fox 2 news. learning more about a bicyclist killed in the east bay when he was hit by car. he suffered fatal injuries when a car struck him yesterday afternoon nearby black hawk. he was a director of facilities for the foster city school district. the cause of the collision is still under investigation. at this point no charges have been filed against had driver. -- the driver. figures show an increase in the number of reports of sex offenses on college campuses. reports of sex offenses doubled over a four year period. 2009 there were 3300 cases

reported. by 2013, 6,000 cases reported. and education and law enforcement officials say sex offenses are under reported crimes and the true number of cases is probably even higher. 2 investigates exposes what some call a mold problem at is about bay apartment complex. it was so -- south bay apartment complex. eric rasmussen is live to explain what happened after 2 investigates got involved. >> reporter: we brought our own mold inspector after apartment managers said it was all cleaned up but results from a lab still showed elevated levels of mold in the air. we can tell you they took air samples outside and inside the apartment where they used to live. he says they had to move out after mold kept returning growing on their furniture, windows and clothes.

he told us visits from maintenance and apartment managers wasn't enough. >> made it feel like it was our fault. they came out and said you have to ventilate. ventilate. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] [ laughter ] >> seemed like it. >> reporter: they ordered management to clean the apartment and the complex. temporarily placed them in another unit yet the company still says mold in this case was caused by the tenants. he strongly denies that and the company called ktvu fox 2 news lab results invalid but when they did their test they founds unacceptable levels of mold. other tenants tell us it is not just one limit and 2 investigates pond to lawsuit that suggest managers known about problems with the building before people moved in. we are taking a closer look at that at 10:00 p.m.

a hearing was held today on legislation that would limit the ability of b.a.r.t. workers from going on streak. 2 strikes caused major disruptions for commuters. the bill would bar strikes under a number of conditions during contract negotiations. if there is a no strike clause and if the workers were still being paid. she said the 2013 about the strikes cost the economy $73 million a day. couple dayed today in an accident -- died today in an accident after 9:00 a.m. this morning on highway 121. the truck driver suffered -- driver suffered minor injuries but the driver and passenger of the car died.

. one of kamala harris' aid was arrested. he was one of three people arrested. investigators say they claimed to run a rogue police force that existed for 3,000 years and has jurisdiction in 33 states and mexico. the sheriff's department arrested the three last week on

suspicion of impersonating police officers. he is a low level aid to kamala harris. the sheriff's department is still investigating only what they were trying to accomplish. the woman who claimed former 49ers defensive lineman ray mcdonald sexually assaulted her is now fighting back against the defamation lawsuit filed by ray mcdonald. gloria alred is representing the woman. gloria alred said the lawsuit should be dismissed based on a law designed to protect people who report rapes. >> we believe that mr. mcdonald who now plays for the chicago bears may have filed this lawsuit against the victim in order to punish her for reporting the rape to the police or to intimidate her. >> the district attorney hasn't decided if ray mcdonald will be charged or prosecuted and there

a north dakota town was evacuated after train carrying

crude oil derailed. it caused a large explosion. six rail cars cape off the tracks. that small town and several farms were evacuated. no one was hurt. residents of one neighborhood are not happy about a man to expand a landfill near their home. tonight the san jose planning commission is expected to make a final vote on the future. ktvu's azenith smith has been covering this for months now. live at city hall with what is hanking tonight. -- happening tonight. >> reporter: the protesters just arrived and they are holding up signs. getting ready to protest this expansion. you can see one sign says no expansion. they believe that this proposal stinks. operators of the landfill want to increase the height by 95 feet and they want to keep it open another 16 years.

the final decision here lies in the hands of the san jose planning commission. it is on san jose property but it is by interstate 880. the owner says it sun fair to blame the landfill. the area is filled with other sources for the odor, including a waste water treatment plan and they say they use state of the art technology to mitigate the smell. families who live nearby are out here. they don't like the odor. they want an independent study to be done and they say expansion will make matters worse. real quick, i want to bring in a resident. he is somebody that is against the landfill. did you know this landfill existed when you moved in? >> no. no.
