earlier this month. both attacks happened in san jose's west valley. latest incident involving the 13-year-old girl happened just yesterday. >> reporter: frank, we're in the upscale west san jose neighborhood, where the 8th grader was attacked. she is remarkably supposed when she described to us what happened. the attack was caught on surveillance tape. >> all of a sudden, i see this guy on my doorstep, and he tells me he's lost. >> reporter: the 13-year-old who we're not identifying, tells me she had just reached the front door of her house after walking home from school. the man was asking questions that grew increasingly personal. >> i knew he wanted something sexual. i've already unlocked the door, that's when i decided to run

inside the house. >> the video shows the man pushing his way inside. >> i fight him and i slash him in the face. >> reporter: the 8th grader was looking for something to throw at him. >> he walks a few steps toward me, and i thought he was just going to jump and grab me. >> instead, he walked out the door. the girl locks the door, hides in a closet, and texts her father. >> daddy, come home now, some guy tried to rape me. please now i'm really scared. >> reporter: police say the same man carried out another attack on april 2, also in the afternoon. investigators say the suspect followed the 28-year-old woman into the restroom but she fought him off. he ran away before police arrived, but he was caught on the market surveillance camera. >> we're very concerned, and we need to put a stop to this immediately. >> the 8th grader says she was

at san jose state. police received an unconfirmed and anonymous tip. university police issued an alert to students and told them to shelter in place. officers conducted a thorough search of duncan hall, and issued an all clear within an hour. department presidential candidate, hillary clinton spent the cay in san francisco, raising money for the white house. she attended two fundraisers, and even stopped for tea with the mayor. a look at what some say is different about this presidential bid compared to 2008. >> well, gasia, clinton spent about an hour here and people came away feeling inspired, and energized. even some democrats who say they voted for president obama last time. >> hello, how are you all? >> reporter: tea time brought hillary clinton to chinatown

fundraisers scheduled with supporters in hollywood. they include a breakfast in westwood. a luncheon at the home of tv producer, steven botchco, and a dinner with dreamworks leader jeffrey katzenberger. police in san francisco are hoping someone can identify a man caught breaking into a boutique. the video shows him breaking a rock through a window. this nighttime breakin happened a couple of weeks ago. the man kicked in the bottom of the glass window with his foot and ducked inside. the camera showed him walking out of the store with arms of merc you can see he was wearing a red shirred and dark colored jacket. san francisco police would like to hear from anyone who may

know the identity of this burglar. bart service is back to normal after systemwide delays. ken pritchett is in the city tonight, and tells us, even after the problem was fixed, commuters still encountered big crowds at stations. >> reporter: at one point, just before the evening commute, b.a.r.t. police had to keep people from entering there. it was a headache, however that faded fast. the problems with b.a.r.t. below market street were all too clear at street level for alyssa martinez. >> i heard a lot of cranky people. they don't want to stop and talk to me. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. was working, but not well.

>> we had a 10-inch gab in the track. >> reporter: this was that gap. why did it break? that's not known for now. >> the track is not old. it's not original rail. we believe it was replaced about a year ago. >> reporter: what is certain is that break caused delays from one side of the bay to the other. the the mcarthur b.a.r.t. station was backed up in the afternoon. riders had to wait with one track out of service. >> i can get there faster by walking. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. crews were able to put in a temporary piece of rail just in time for the evening commute. trains had to drive slower, but by 5:30, the once jammed embarcadero station looked normal. >> tonight, we're going to bring in that nice permanent rail and put it into place, so we can run trains normally in

the morning. >> reporter: in the end, it was a problem that was squeezed for the most part between the major commutes. impacting major midday riders like alyssa the most. >> i'm probably going to take the bus home. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. says it is infrequent, but not unheard of to have a track like this break. multiple regimes, including the visual inspection of busy sections of track like this one every night. >> ken pritchett in san francisco tonight. ken, thank you. that was just one of the problems for b.a.r.t. today. the bay fair station in san leandro lost power at about 2:30 this afternoon, and hundreds of people were stranded. in fact, it took about an hour before pg and e was able to get the power restored. here's what caused that power outage. pg and e says a mylar balloon got stuck on a power line. obviously, b.a.r.t. added that red circle for emphasis. pg and e, says the content can

cause transformers to short circuit. developing news out of the midwest where a series of tornadoes touched down in three states. this tornado hit in the nebraska tornado valley. authorities in oklahoma are assessing the damage after a number of tornadoes touched down there. this is video from cleveland county, just south of oklahoma city. power poles were knocked down, and debris is scattered everywhere. from the air, you can see entire neighborhoods were flattened. even the oklahoma city airport was evacuated as the tornadoes approached. flooding was also a major concern. there was also severe weather in kansas. no serious injuries have been reported from the tornadoes, but the storms were so strong that a tiger in a refuge in oklahoma city got loose, prompting authorities to order residents to stay inside. all of the animals were eventually found. tracking the chance of perhaps a few showers in the

police in palo alto are looking for people who launched a paintball attack on people last night. the attacks happened at two different locations. then just three minutes later on melville avenue. ken wayne live with a look at how serious a paintball attack can be. >> reporter: gasia, this is what paintballs look like. they're round, plastic little balls. they don't look lethal, but they are far from harmless, especially if you're hit in the face. at santa clara paintball, we were shown just how hard these paintball guns can be. >> our guns are turned down, but they're still shooting at 220 feet per second. that's 180-miles an hour.

valley hospital, where he died a short time later. identifying a bike rider struck by a car. 55-year-old george couter. the cause of the collision is still under investigation, and so far no charges have been filed against the driver. >> police are trying to generate leads in their search for a missing girl. they posted this photo of bailey faggiano to the facebook page. they believe she's with someone named griffin o'brien in a range rover. anyone with information is asked to call pleasanton police. now to concord where another flurry of earthquakes

is getting attention. you'll recall on sunday, a 3.6, and a 3.0 hit the same area, and there have been at least eight other smaller earthquakes. today, ktvu's john fowler asked seismologists what's going on here? >> reporter: this is the epicenter of the swarm of quakes. monument boulevard in concord. you can see on the pavement, owe earthquake movement has shaken the ground here. this recent swarm began about breakfast time, and was felt across the diablo valley. >> it was a big jolt. it felt like it was making the house shake a little bit. >> people say they felt three quakes at 7:31, 7:32 and 7:35 this morning. the quake knocked this branch off his tree in his front yard. he sent us this photo of it across his car. he's lived here 25 years. >> yeah, i was pretty surprised. the whole time i've lived here, i've never seen any of these

trees break like that. >> reporter: luckily it did little damage. the swarm of quakes has people on edge. >> i've felt many in my life, living in the bay area. >> reporter: seismologists tell me, today's quakes are part of a storm that started sunday and probably will not trigger a bigger one. >> that's not likely just because these earthquakes are really, really small. >> reporter: seismologists can't point them well enough to know if they're on the main fault or a splintered fault. a 4% chance of a quake of a 6.6 magnitude or so in the next few years. in concord, john fowler, ktvu fox 2 news. a late season storm is bringing snow to the sierra. a light snow shower this afternoon. this video is from a home in silver springs and it could be

tonight 2 investigates exposes what some call the best kept secret at one apartment complex. mold so bad some tenants say they had to move out. the apartment manager it they say knew about potential problems before they ever moved in. >> new evidence uncovered by 2 investigates. >> reporter: we hired our own mold inspector and tests in one unit revealed mold in the air five times higher than outdoor levels, and that was after apartment managers told tenants their apartment was clean. >> it was covered in mold and i just freaked out. >> reporter: a breaking point for justin keller. mold just about everywhere else inside his apartment.

last year at the sycamores part of the lux renorth park apartment village in san jose. >> when it's all over our stuff it just became too unbearable. >> reporter: san francisco code ordered management to remove the mold. keller and his fiance had to move out. they say apartment managers eventually gave them a furnished yont until their place could be cleaned. cleanup crews gave the all clear. the couple says they were told to move back in or pay for a new unit. keller not convinced the apartment was really mold free. >> even as we stand in here right now, we don't know for sure if it's still here. we'd like to find out. >> i'd like to find out. >> reporter: tom took air samples outside and inside the apartment, he also tested a pair of the tenants moldy flip

flops. they found indoor air levels still five times higher than the outdoor sample. >> but this number i know is elevated. >> reporter: we showed the mold report to tenants rights attorney, joe tobin. >> clearly, in this example you provided, the landlord did not do proper mold remediation, the levels are very high. >> reporter: also troubling, he says is this lawsuit filed in 2012 by apartment complex, the irvine company, alleging breach of contract. >> a sophisticated landlord that has a lot of property knows that water intrusion is going to equal mold. the landlord needs to disclose that to the tenant. >> reporter: 2 investigates called managers, and got a call back at the parent company in southern california. the irvine company declined our request for an interview, but told us it determined the mold in keller's apartment was not

caused by water intrusion. the company said the mold was caused by the residents, sighting high humidity. >> reporter: irvine also called ktvu's lab results invalid, saying our inspector didn't take enough samples, but they still acknowledged an unacceptable number of mold spores in the air, and plans to do more cleaning. keller says he and his fiance did nothing wrong and other people say the mold is not limited to one apartment. >> reporter: kimberly kates believes the problem is bigger than a few units. >> i think it's like the best kept secret at north park. >> they offered $2,500 to replace damaged property. but keller says they're still negotiating with management to try to cover their losses. while our inspector did not

and longer than first reported. it was an adult female, rather than a universal. the marine mammal says scientists found the whale had four vertebrae, and a broken rib. they say thiers could mean the whale was hit by a ship, but they aren't sure, so the cause of the death will likely remain unknown. dozens of teachers interrupted a school board meeting with a noisy protest. the united teachers union want the district to invest in increasing teachers pay. the union says its teachers are among the lowest paid in the east bay. despite serving 31,000 students in several cities. san francisco's glide church serves about 900,000 meals a year. their facility needs an upgrade to serve all of those diners. today's event brought together

the u.s. department of agriculture has now confirmed 122 cases of birth flew which can kill a bird in 48 hours. so far more than 128 million chickens and turkeys have been infected. both iowa and minnesota reported more infections this week. they do say the price of dozen eggs could increase by as much as 15 cents. students held a candlelight vigil for the victims of the nepal earthquake. they used candles to make a map of the flag. the death toll is now more than 7500. students say they're accepting donations for the victims. in nepal, people are rebuilding some of their certificatished monuments and not waiting for the government to do it. in the city of katan their

working on temples and palaces. advising the residents whether they're safe. many people living in tents, others have left the city entirely. a bay area comedian is in the hospital waiting for triple bypass surgery. michael pritchard posted this video from his hospital room. his agent said the comedian started having major chest pains saturday night. testing found he needed a triple bypass. the surgery is set for friday. he's known for his hard work with kids, cancer groups, and wounded veterans. the new england patriots likely deflated footballs, and quarterback tom brady likely knew about it. those are the key findings of an investigative report released today by the nfl.

you've got no showers for us. as we head into the afternoon, they're going to start off as thunder showers over the mountains, but work their way back. normally things come out of the west or northwest, or even southwest. these storms will be coming from the east. right now, the wind direction is southwest. the winds should be clocking around north-northeast. moisture comes up over the top of it, and we've got a cooler breezy day with a chance of showers. let's go right to the mountains, where a winter weather advisory is going to go into effect. reports of snow up there now. not a big deal, but as we head into the next 24 hours, maybe a half foot of snow. some rain as well. maybe thunder and lightning. be careful traveling that way. as we go into tomorrow, here we go. there's the showers. here we are at 1:00 on thursday. here we are at 5:00. see this down in san jose, that's tomorrow. then you go back through there.

see how widely scattered is? i'm hoping it hits my lawn, and your lawn too. in the mountains, plenty of activity. it dies out as we head into friday evening. mainly tomorrow afternoon, into thursday night, tomorrow night into friday. typically, they fall apart, but if there's a strong enough cell, perhaps a thunderstorm that's been blowing up over say, the yosemite area, as it blows back our way, it will still have a little bit of moisture in, and still have a little oomph to it. this is nothing to lose sleep over. as we head into friday, the atmosphere stabilizes, and starts to warm up in time for mother's day for the weekend. giants and a's not so good today, mark. >> yeah, they'll never remember this game, come the end of the year. very forgettable day. figured the giants hadn't given as much as a measly run in the last three games, couldn't go
