followed home and attacked as soon as she gets inside but surveillance cameras camera catch this 13-year-old fighting off her attacker. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. police in san jose need help finding a sexual assault suspect who followed a young girl home and attacked her. investigators believe he is responsible for a another assault that happened -- for another assault that happened nearby. we interviewed the brave girl. janine de la vega brings us the interview and the surveillance video. >> reporter: this video taken on tuesday shows a man walking

into a neighborhood in west san jose. he's following a 13-year-old girl. we're -- we're protecting her identity. he starts to ask her personal questions. and says she's lost. >> and then he asks me really inappropriate questions that i have an why what he was trying to -- to ask me. but i knew he wanted something sexual. >> reporter: she runs inside the home. he follows her. >> he grabs me. i fight him and i smash my hand into his face and that's when he lets go of me. >> reporter: she looked around for something to throw at him but the man left. police say this same man carried out an attack earlier last month at the masua market on saratoga avenue. investigators say the suspect followed a 28-year-old woman into the restroom. she was able to fight him off before officers arrived. >> we're very concerned and need to put a stop to this immediately. >> reporter: the young girl was

not injured. she remembers the man had an unusual high-pitched voice and smelled of strong cologne. all of a sudden -- >> all of a sudden, i feel like it was a dream but when i look around. it really did happen and he had a really, really strong odor and it was all over me. so i honestly feel like i had to burn all of my clothes because the smell was so strong. >> reporter: police want people to share his photo on social media so they can capture him quickly. it may bring peace to the victims who have had their sense of security shattered. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we have this on our facebook page. palo alto police are searching for a group of people blamed for several paintball attack targeting innocent people. at least five people were hurt, including a nan in his 70s -- a man in his 70s. we visited a paintball shop

where the instructor shows how they work. the first location was at newell road and the second was at melville avenue. three people were struck. the instructor said the toy guns can be powerful. >> our guns are turned down but any are still shooting at 180 miles an hour. you can shoot somebody with a marshmallow in the eye at that speed and it will do serious damage. >> the suspects drove an older model gold sedan. police say the attackers could face misdemeanor battery and vandalism to felony assault charges if somebody is hurt. so far the victims received only bruises. rain, even some hail today in the bay area. ktvu cameras caught this hill in milpitas. here's something we haven't seen a lot of. some snow in the sierra. this is a look from caltrans camera on highway 50 in echo

summit. it's not a lot. you can see a dusting of snow there. mark tamayo is live in the weather center now. an interesting weather setup. woke up to a lot of sunshine this morning but the clouds drifting in from the east instead of the pacific. we're tracking the rain showers moving in from the sierra over sacramento and over parts of the bay area. rainfall totals, not very impressive but a few to report as you can see toward the altamont past. 4/100ths and a few/100ths out towards campbell, san jose and here's the live camera. mt. diablo. you can see what i'm talking about. the location in moving in from the south and east and heading to the bay area so heading in this direction wrapping around an area of low pressure. the closer look at the radar, you can see all of that activity kind of flaring up within parts of the east bay. reports of the steady rain in alamo in the past hour. here is a closer look at the

conference with g -- is inside a press conference with gascon now and will have more at 5:00. we've uncovered problems with the automated toll collection. hundreds of thousands of people use fastrack. we met two women who ran into financial troubles because of issues they encountered with fastrack. one of them had such a large debt in tolls and penalty fees, she chose to declare bankruptcy. we found that their cases are far from rare. fastrack processes 125 million transactions on the bay area's seven bridges every year. most of them with no problem pat-- at all. but we found that 342 mistaken charges happen every day and that can send people into financial ruin. >> i got some fastrack tickets,

four and five months after they 10:00 the car back. >> that woman didn't have fastrack, didn't own a car and she never crossed any bridges. john sasaki will have her story and much more tonight on the 10:00 news. b.a.r.t. says it has sent the piece of broken rail to a lab for testing. the 10-inch broken rail was found between the 16th street and civic center station in san francisco yesterday morning. a temporary fix was made but that took hours and created system-wide delays. b.a.r.t. provided us this photo. it's unclear what caused the break but frustrated riders were stuck waiting for hours for the track to be temporarily repaired. >> i've heard a lot of cranky people. they don't want to stop to talk to me because they are cranky because the b.a.r.t. is not working. >> it's not original rail. it's not 43 years old. we believe it was replaced about a year ago. >> a permanent fix was made

overnight when b.a.r.t. trains were not running. in the afternoon, the bayfair station in san leandro lost power which stranded hundred of passengers -- hundreds of passengers. you might know that jamba juice is headquartered here but about you know that the ceo john white is one of the few african-americans to hold the title of ceo in corporate america. dave clark sat down to find out what has helped him shape his role in leadership. >> i know that you are operating in st. louis influences, if not all of who you are, but much of who you are. in what way? >> you know, really for me working-class parents. so i learned the benefits of hard work, watching my parents every day. they valued education and learning. so i view myself as a constant learner and, you know, very,

police from across the south bay were called out to break up what authorities are describe as a large sideshow in milpitas last night. an estimated 300 people gathered with their cars in milpitas square. the shopping center on barber lane, neesh 880 -- near 880. because of the size of the crowd, police called for backup. officers from fremont, san jose and the santa clara county sheriff's office all helped clear the parking lot. one person involved in the sideshow was arrested but

police did not say what charges that person would face. >> it doesn't occur very often in milpitas but when it does, we take street racing very seriously, as it does represent a danger to the public. >> it's unclear how this event was organized but some of the pramp parents tell -- participants tell ktvu this was not a car show but rather a car meet and participants were not involved in dangerous driving. the oakland police department is taking a new approach to training officers and police departments around the country or taking notice. chief sean whent stopped by the studio during "mornings on 2." he says the new training approach is about restoring the relationship between the community and the police. part of the training includes methods on how to minimize the likelihood of force being used. officers are trained using video and role playing scenarios where they use different force options. >> that's important because it

helps officers make better decisions under stress, recognizing that the use of force scenarios happen under high stress circumstances. >> the officers have worn body cameras since 2013 and the chief said they should be used by departments all across the country. recent events with the baltimore police department and a suspected terror attack in texas have le rhett da -- loretta lynch into the spotlight. joel waldman has more from washington. >> reporter: attorney general lynch says the department of justice needs more money to carry out its mission and

points to recent civil unrests. >> when there are allegations of wrongdoing made against individual officers and police departments, the department of justice has a responsibility to examine the evidence and if necessary to help them implement change. >> reporter: it was ten days ago, mere hours after lynch took her oath of office that racial tensions boiled over that erupted in riots. >> although the city has made significant strides, i've not ruled out the possibility that more may need to be done. >> reporter: lawmakers also questioned lynch over the fbi's investigation into this weekend's shooting in garland, texas, involving two radicalized muslims who ited a free speech event -- who attacked a free speech event in

and we're your exclusive station for this as the u.s. chases the world cup. mark is back. more unusual weather? >> yeah, we have the sun, the clouds, passing showers. the possibility of a few popup thunderstorms as well. they already happened out toward milpitas and sen the central -- the central valley. this is the dark, cloudy skies over san francisco bay right now. you get the idea of circulation in the central valley, kind of pushing more moisture our way. right now we have thunderstorms moving into the central valley out toward modesto and stockton. here is a closer look at our radar and the coverage mainly focused in the southern half of the region. here we come in closer. those darker shades of green do correspond to more -- at least more of a moderate intensity closer to a union city. i want to show you some

this is my friend being very rambunctious. 25 years ago, may 7th, 1990, we go to video now. this is what started it all. you remember this game. this is when tony was a manager. there was a cat on the field. tony picks up the cat, wants to take care of it and puts it inside the locker room bathroom and keeps it there. he tries to find a home for it. but he couldn't find one. he says why not? we'll start our own. and now we're at the facility. talk about how this has grown 25 years -- from 25 years ago. >> we're just thrilled for the larussa's vision and the creation of this 38,000-square foot facility. we rehome animals from basically death row. we rescue from county facilities and then give them age appropriate shots.
