francisco there. if are a driving on the san mateo, it looks good. remember, the san mateo bridge will close this weekend for some roadwork. they'll be doing some roadwork. there are alternates including the dumbarton bridge. the san mateo will be closed in both directions. we'll tell you more about that coming up. let's go back to the desk. a police standoff continues this morning near downtown san jose. this began about 6:30 last night when a woman called and said a man pointed a gun at her inside a home. she was able to escape and was told the man was inside the house with several weapons. between north 12th, julian and washington was blocked off. police said they're not in a rush here. they're waiting for the right time to make contact with this man. >> he has a lot of firearms.

we've already confirmed that. obviously, we want him to come out and surrender peacefully without there being some kind of engaugement. it's dangerous for us. >> police belief the man is inside the home. they said they have not identified him but they have yet to release that information. we do have ktvu fox 2 news on the scene. well, there is a happy ending to the search for a family. a national guard helicopter spotted the missing farther and two children about 8:00 last night in an area about 10 to 20- miles from their original camp site near the community of downyville in sierra county. 41-year-old nick last vlahos and his daughters were in an

ambulance. the family is said to be in great shape. they disappeared tuesday afternoon. they planned to drove through remote areas on their way back. it's believed their toyota tundra truck may have broken down or slid off the road. rescuers found them hiking. >> they don't need to go to the hospital. it's good news. >> deputies said vlahos and his children have been released. he coowns al's barber shop. friends say he's an experienced camper. firefighters in the south bay are trying to figure out what caused two buildings to go up in flames. both incidents happened in san jose's school district, the latest about 10:30 last night on 5th street. when firefighters arrived, the building was fully engulfed in

flames. there was another fire on commercial street there. were students inside at the time. they said they heard loud explosions and ran from the buildinged no within was hurt. it happened around the welding tank. an investigation is underway. we have a follow-up about unsanitary living conditions. oakland city inspectors plan to check the plumbing at im-- empeer your towers. drinking water tested positive for bacteria, commonly found in sewage. tenants were bussed to a hotel last night. leaks were found, signs of black mold and unfinished repairs. >> i'm really grossed out. i've been bathing and brushing my teeth with it. >> we chose to shut the

building down, red tag it. they will do a chlorination on the building. >> they are doing everything they can to resolve the problem. tenants won't be allowed back for sometime as it will take days before the water is safe it drink. people in the east bay may notice changes in the taste and smell to their water there. was a rash of complaints after tap water left a bad taste. why is it changing? because of our drought. east bay said it plans to cleaning how this draws water from one of its reservoir. instead of cold snow melt, the agency said it will draw warmer water from the service. the tap water will likely taste and smell differently as a result. caltrans is warning people

of closures because of the san mateo bridge. both spans will come pltly shut down at 10:00 tonight. lane closures will begin as early as 7 p.m. the bridge is not scheduled to row hope until 5:00 monday morning. new questions are being raised about the long term stability of the bay bridge. a steel rod that helps analyzes the -- anchors it -- the rod may have corroded while soaking in water. caltrans said the bridge is safe but it plans to test the strength of it. the warriors head out to memphis later on today ahead of game three of the western conference semifinals series. they were all loose by the end. game two we lost that one.

san jose police released enhanced photos of a man who attacked a 13-year-old girl inside her home. police say the man followed her home from school on tuesday and forced his way into her house in san jose's west valley. inside home surveillance video

shows the man grabbing the girl and pushing her up against the wall. the girl punched him and he walked away. police said this sexual predator is still at large and neighbors are concerned he may return. >> i'm putting in surveillance lights next week knowing that there's those type of people here. >> police believe this man has struck once before. they say in that case he followed a 28-year-old woman into the mid-sua market in san jose. if you recognize him, call the san jose police department. women are being warned who walk around the bay trail. both attacks occurred near the back of the new target store right along the water. one happened five months ago, the second three months ago but officers said they learned about the attack after the

victims told a health and human services employee who told police. >> they were aproved by a hispanic male wearing all black. the male forced them to the ground and sexually assaulted them. in one of the occasions the suspect grabbed the victim's hand. >> police said both victims are a tina. they were afraid to report the attacks because of deportation. police are encouraging people to come forward saying immigration will not be called. it's been almost a year sense three college students were killed near uc santa barbara. one of the victim's mothers plans to speak out. elliott roger killed six people and injured 14 others before killing him save. he was vesting his friend when

he was stabbed to death. his mother are is calling on officials to take a better look at campus safety to prevent tragedies like this from happening again no people living in the midwest are bracing for more storms as they recover from a series of destructive tornadoes. the national weather service received 53 reports of tornadoes in texas, oklahoma, and neb nefnlt a -- nebraska. the governor of oklahoma has declared a state of emergency in a dozen counties. there's also flooding across the midwest and heavy rains caused rivers to flood above flood stage. >> some tree debris in the basement. i was glad we were able to find a safe place. >> a 42-year-old oklahoma woman died while she was inside of her storm shelter.
