40s. very active in southern california. our system yesterday was okay. not too bad but it's really lighting things up down south toward san diego and other areas. for us we're on the drier side. still some low clouds around which is impressive considering temps are cool aloft. temps inland are not that warm. but will goes our system. now southern sacramento valley. snow coming off the sierra. mainly central sierra and heavy duty rain moving in toward san diego. but for us the northern edge of that means we're under the cool air mass. under clerisies. 40s for many. low 40s. mid 40s. still a few 50s holding on. we will see temperatures cool off. there goes the low as it takes the turn. it will be a major weather maker. for us it's too far south. there could be a few isolated showers. generally below average temps. lots of 70s and 60s. temperatures for may staying on the cool side. all right sal at 6:00 anything

new to report? >> traffic is a little slower but nothing major. we are starting off with the east shore freeway and start off on 80 westbound between the carquinez bridge and mccarthur maze. you can see the traffic is doing very well. the drive time is 18 minutes and not a major delay although there is one when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the traffic is backed up to the foot of the mccarthur maze. maybe a 10-15 minute delay. in dublin, dublin pleasanton there is a car that went off the road into a ditch. it's not causing a major delay. westbound traffic a little slow as you approach the 680 interchange. at 6:01 let's go back to the desk. we have new developments in a police stand off. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us now from the neighborhood where that stand off fortunately ended peacefully. >> reporter: officers just left the scene here on 12th street. officers were searching inside the home because they were told there were firearms inside the

house. i was told they found several. some real, some fake. now the man who lived here is under arrest for reportedly threatening someone here with a weapon. police were called to the home near washington after they received a 911 call that a man there pointed a gun at a woman. she was able to leave the home but the man barricaded himself inside. they were concerned the man was disupon tent and may have hurt others. the compartment swat team came and tried to talk the man out of his house. finally shortly after 4:00 this morning the officers entered and found him hiding befind furniture. >> he was inside the house and for quite some time he was not complying with the commands to come out. he was just inside the bedroom. eventually the officers were able to gain his compliance and took him into custody and transported him. >> the man was identified by police as 51-year-old john adams. he's going to be booked for making threats and for assault. both of those are felonies.

as far as the neighborhood goes, some had slept in their cars over night and they were let back in their homes in the last hour and a half. but pam, everybody here is glad that this is is all resolved and that nobody was injured. >> i'm sure. relieved neighborhood. thank you janine. 6:03 is the time. firefighters in the south bay trying to figure out what caused two buildings less than two miles apart to go up in flames. both incidents happened in san jose's commercial district. when firefighters arrived the building was fully engulfed in flames. three hours earlier just a few blocks away there was another fire at a welding school on commercial street. there were students inside at the time and they heard loud explosions and ran from the building but no one was hurt. firefighters say that fire started in an area around the welding tanks. an investigation is now under way. your time is 6:03. oakland barber and two young kids that went missing in the

tahoe national forest on tuesday they have been found safe. the family was in a camping center. ktvu fox 2 tara moriarty is joining us live outside the family's home. what are investigators saying? >> reporter: they think it was the family truck that had become disabled and that is why the the vlahos' got stranded. behind me is the family home and we haven't seen much movement. they were found last night around 8:00. medics checked them out in an ambulance. the trio was spotted one mile northeast of poker flat by a national guard helicopter. part of a large scale search. that is not far from the original camp site where they were last seen tuesday morning. the family is in good health and good spirits. >> they don't need to go to the hospital. it's really good news. they're alive and well and will get reunited with the family.

>> reporter: they found the vlahos' hiking not far from their black pickup truck. the condition of that vehicle is unknown at this time. video of the helicopter rescue should be released sometime today and as far as mom goes, we understand she was on a trip to kentucky. we're not sure if she is back but she is quite relieved to hear the good news. back to you. >> all right tara moriarty, thank you. time is 6:05. a woman in oklahoma was killed. she was trying to hide from this week's tornado in the midwest. a 42-year-old woman drowned in her under ground storm shelter when it flooded. the national weather service received 50 reports of tornadoes in texas, oklahoma, kansas, and nebraska. the governor of oklahoma declared a state of emergency in a dozen counties. the national weather service says the chances of even more tornadoes they are not likely but the midwest will be pounded by more storms this weekend. strong winds and floods may be

to blame for a freight train going off the tracks about 50 miles northwest of dallas. four engines and 14 cars at this santa fe train went off the tracks this morning. four of the crew members on the train were hurt. their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. investigators say there were no hazardous materials in these freight containers. cal tran is warning drivers of the closure of the san mateo bridge. both will be shut down and that starts at 10:00 tonight. lane closures will begin as early as 7:00 p.m. tonight and the bridge is not scheduled to reopen until 5:00 monday morning. cal tran resurfacing the bridge and applying a special coating to the road. the chronicle reports a steel rod that helps anchor the new tower failed a key integrity test. a rod may have corroded when it was soaking in water but cal

tran says the bridge is safe but it does say it plans to test the strengths of the rod. warriors flying today to memphis ahead of game three of the western conference semi finals with the grizzlies. the players yesterday at practice said there was a different vibe when they started. by the time it was over they had loosened up. that is after the warriors lost game two. the first home loss for the warriors since january. game three is tomorrow night in memphis. game four monday also in memphis. and scott reese will be there as well. scott will have a live report for you tomorrow on mornings on 2. >> right now it is 6:07. a man accused of kidnapping his two daughters in roanoke park. the legal mixup involved and where police believe that man is headed. >> i was so scared. i started to scream. >> some airline passengers call it the scariest flight of their

good morning. welcome back to mornings on 2. the norwegian and philippine ambassadors to pakistan they have just been killed. pakistani helicopter crashed. also killed in the crash the wives of the ambassadors from malaysia and indonesia and two pilots and a crew member. the ambassadors of poland and netherlands they were among those that have been hurt. the pakistani taliban is claiming they shut down that helicopter. that is not yet been confirmed by pakistan's government. san rafael police are warning women who walk along the bay trail of two sexual attacks. one happened five months ago. the second happened three

months ago but officers say they just learned about the attacks after the victims told a health and human services employee. >> the male forced them down to the ground and is sexually assaulted them. in one of the occasions the suspect grabbed the victims hand and placed it on a handgun that was in his waistband. >> they were afraid to report the attacks because of fear of deportation. police are encouraging any other victims to come forward. immigration will not be called and officers are also now patrolling that trail. if you live in the east bay, your water may once again taste and smell a little strange. back in march we first told you about a lot of complaints that the tap water tasted bad in berkeley and oakland. this sunday they will change the way they take water out of

one of their reservoirs. instead of old snow melt, the water agency will draw warmer water from the surface. east bay mud says that will make the tap water taste and smell different. passengers are calling it the scariest flight of their lives after the plane they were on filled with smoke and made an emergency landing. the delta flight was on its way from fort lauderdale to new york when it started beeping. the cabin quickly filled with smoke. the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and a problem with one of the planes two engines more than an hour into the flight. >> i could smell the smoke. and then i looked back toward the rear of the plane and it was dark. and people were coughing and some people were crying. >> the plane made an emergency landing in south carolina. once there passengers were put on another plane which took them safely to la guardia

mountain view headquarters. there is a few similarities. it has an office designed to foster collaboration between entrepreneurs and has a special cafe. google will rent out space to start-up companies and investors. there are similar google campuses in london and tel aviv. google says it picks seoul, south carolina because of its flourishing startup and scene. stephen colbert giving back to schools in his south carolina state. he made the announcement to a group of students on a video feed yesterday and he told them that he and two organizations are working together to fund every existing grant request made by south carolina public schoolteachers on the crowd funding website donorschoose.org. the $800,000 donation will fund almost 1,000 classroom projects. colbert says he raised his part of the contribution by

we have not seen any movement here. we do know the family went up to help during this search. nicholas and his five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter were found just after 8:00 last night. medics took them out in an ambulance. the roe was spotted one mile from poker flat. it wasn't far from the original camp site where they were seen tuesday morning. >> they've been air lifted out so they have been evacuated by helicopter. and they will be flown up and reunited. i'm very excited. i'm glad this worked out. there is a few counties working with us. >> crews found them hiking not far from their black pickup truck. this is a picture from instagram. the condition of that vehicle is unknown at this time. authorities told us it mostly became disabled and that is how the family got stranded. video should be released

sometime today. everyone is safe and sound. a couple of crashes and bug bites but over all they are okay and alive. live okay land i'm tara moriarty. meantime a man who worked at a children's science camp in santa clara county is accused of possessing child pornology. he was arrested wednesday. deputies say they found several hundred images and videos of child pornography on his computer and phone. people who live at one oakland residential hotel had to pack up and leave after tests of the tap water turned up something very disturbing. christien kafton is joining us from the building which has a history of problems. >> reporter: yeah we will get

into that history in just a moment. residents here gone this morning. you can see the red tag here. this building red tagged. if you take a look right here you might be able to read hazardous portable water. this time it's the water making residents sick. city inspectors came by and red tagged the building. residents here have been complaining of stomach and gi ailments and asked east bay mud to sample and test the water on sunday. those tests came back positive saying the water was contaminated with bacteria commonly found in sewage and waste water. several complained about stomach ailments. and they went to areas hospitals to see what was going on before they knew about that contamination. >> when we went to the hospital, i already suspected the water because any time i drink it, take a shower, brush my teeth i would be feeling

really nauseous. really sick for awhile. ktvu was here when buses showed up to getth residents out of here. four dozen residents had to evacuate because of the contaminated with ther situation. the plan is to put chlorine into the entire plumbing situation. we've also heard city inspectors could be here at 8:00. we will stay on scene and monitor developments here. as we said earlier, this building has a history of problems. we found leaks, signs of black mold, unfinished work and whole families living in one room units with the water backing up. this seems to be an ongoing problem here in oakland. >> that is just awful. thank you. 6:36 is the time. there is more fallout in the growing scandal over racist text messages sent between some san francisco police officers. george gascon says he has appointed three retired judges

to retire 3,000 cases for evidence of possible officer biased. we spoke with mike. in 2010 he was arrested on a misdemeanor. he still remembers the racial slur that the officer used on the way to jail. >> you guys have no home. no family. no morals. >> what were you thinking at that time? >> this guy is dangerous. >> the case was later thrown out. now as for the officers involved in the texting scandal, they have been removed from public contact and the chief has recommended them for termination. the justice department expected to announce a federal investigation into the baltimore police force as early as today. that investigation will focus on whether the department regularly engages in

discriminatory practices. it's following the death of freddie gray who suffered a spinal injury while in police custody last month. six police officers have been charged # in his death. hillary clinton is headed back to the bay area for more campaign fund raising. she attended three in california yesterday. clinton has -- she was just in san francisco on wednesday for two other fundraisers. and today president obama makes his first trip to south dakota. as of today south dakota was the only state he had not visited yet.

british prime minister david cameron will keep his job for five more years. here is video of the prime minister coming out and claiming victory in yesterday's parliamentary elections. showed conservatives locked in a really tight race with the opposition labor party. the conservative party won an easy majority of the seats. as is tradition the prime minister went to buckingham palace to tell queen elizabeth he has enough support to form a government. they want scotland to separate from great britain. scotland is where one of the biggest upsets of the election occurred. mari black just became britain's youngest lawmaker since 1667. the scottish nationalists party candidate ousted douglas

to explain the legal mixup. >> reporter: the mother of those missing girls have been granted a restraining order against their father. that order did not work in this case. this morning there is is a major search under way up and down the west coast for these two girls. nine-year-old alyssa reep and her 11-year-old sister kyra. those girls were taken on tuesday afternoon by 45-year- old everett dean reep. he showed up at their after school program with an order from a mendocino county judge awarding him temporary emergency custody. that judge was not aware of the restraining order that was in place. now after finding out about it, the judge rescinded the temporary custody order just the next day. unfortunately reep had already disappeared with the girls. >> they are really smart. they are very strong girls.

they will band together so i take comfort in knowing they are together. >> reporter: reep has been arrested twice before on felony charges. she sought the restraining order after she threatened coaches and spectators at a ball game. on wednesday night police say a state trouper in oregon pulled reep over but he was eventually let go because he said he was on his way to washington state to visit his father. he was in contact with law enforcement on at least one occasion here but the the search continuing this morning for that father. now police need your help to find the person responsible. police say the suspect drove up to a car on crest view drive

around and opened fire. two people were shot. the driver died at the scene. the passenger was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. anyone with information is asked to call pittsburgh police. a man from oakland the late toast be arrested in a statewide crack down. now this is personal disabled spot that zach wilson at weldon -- the problem weldon is not disabled. he forged his application for a apartmenting permit. >> he did have a forged doctors signature. the doctor said that is not my signature. you know. and he's not a patient of ours. >> now that arrest is the latest in the dmv's special operation blue zone. investigators say weldon raised

well today is v-e day also known as victory in europe day. defeated nazi germany. now the special anniversary is being remembered at events all over europe. here in paris the french president placed a wreath at the ceremony and attended by john kerry as you see here. in washington, d.c. v-e day will be remembered with a special air show. dozens of original world war ii fighters and bombers will take to the skies over the national mall. and some pilots that flew them say they can't wait to see it. >> i wouldn't have thought at age 96 i would see every airplane that the air force had in world war ii fly over the

capitol of the united states. >> making that air show happen today was no small feat. air space over washington, d.c. as you know is severe live stricted. the secret service had to clear every pilot and every passenger. a church in mill valley is turning an act of vandalism into an opportunity for a lesson about turning the other cheek. last week the united methodist's church's board read jesus had two dads and he is just fine. someone painted over the words two dads and church. >> it's sad that someone had to anonymously deface church sign, the church message and not come to us directly. it's upsetting, of course. >> ours after the graffiti was discovered a family who's son has boy scout meetings at the church cleaned off the sign. now a new message has gone up.
