>> reporter: an oakland father and his two young children are found safely after vanishing during a camping trip in the remote sierra. we'll tell you why authorities believe they got stranded in the first place. >> reporter: a tense situation overnight in san jose after a neighborhood is locked down and an armed man makes threats. how police finally got him in custody and what they found inside the home.

the family we've been looking for has been located. >> a huge sigh of relief for loved ones of a prayer family after missing for two days in the sierra. tara moriarty is learning more about the ordeal and will have more in two minutes. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." it's friday, may 8th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve, you are talking about snow this morning. >> bridgeport,7100 feet, had a foot of snow. there is a lot of rain falling down in southern california. but it's a cool air mass in place even though the clouds are clearing out. the low clouds have returned. 7100-foot level at bridgeport, that looks nice. a spotter around moner lake.

la honda, matt, one thermometer says 34, one says 36. that's cold. cool air is sending lows in the 30 and 40s. it's all south and east of us now. you can see the moisture still coming off the sierra. there's snow there turning to rain. look at it swinging in off the pacific. some really heavy rain. 40s on the temps. these are much colder almost 10, 12 degrees colder. any low clouds may be holding the temps down. below average temps for us. mostly sunny. we have low clouds around. temperatures will be slow to recover. 60s and 70s. sal, normal slow traffic? >> well, there's normal slow traffic and a couple of incidents here and there. for the most part, a decent commute.

let's take a look at what we have with the morning drive on the bay bridge toll plaza. it's kind of hard to see the foreground here because of the back lighting but the traffic is backed up from the macarthur maze all the way out to the metering lights. about a 15, 20-minute delay. it's worth being backlit when you have a sun up the hills. i digress. 580 is not bad. we've been looking at contra costa county. slow traffic on highway 4 over the willow pass grade. that's about it. 680 looks good from the benicia bridge to highway 24. skyfox over oakland as we look at interstate 880, coming up on jack lon -- jack london square and downtown oakland. patrolling from hayward to oakland and the commute looks good. back to the desk. >> thank you. an oakland barber and his two young children missing in

the tahoe national forest have been found safe. they were spotted not too from their campsite. tara moriarty is live from outside of the family home in alameda county. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. authorities seem to think that it was their truck, the family's truck that somehow became disabled and that is why they got stranded. they hadn't spoken to the father when we were there last night when ktvu was on scene but hopefully more details will emerge. behind me is the family home. we haven't seen any movement here. nicholas vlahos and his 5-year- old son and 3-year-old daughter were found after 8:00 last night. medics checked them out. the trio was spotted one mile northeast of poker flat by a blackhawk national guard helicopter. part of a large-scale search. that's not far from the -- not far from the original campsite. the family is in good shape.

just a few bug bites and scratches. >> they don't need to go to the hospital, from what i understand. they've been checked out. it's good news. they are alive and well. >> reporter: crews found the vlahos family hiking. the condition of that vehicle is unknown at this time. now, a video of the helicopter rescue should be released. he owns two popular barbershops in the east bay. his coworkers are relieved he's been found. they weren't surprised. they say he camps often and is always prepared. back to you. >> a lot of people happy about that. thank you. 7:0 a. a very tense police standoff in san jose that lasted through the night ended peacefully just about three hours ago. ktvu fox 2's janine de la vega in the neighborhood near downtown san jose. you can tell us what police found when the house was searched. good morning, janine.

>> reporter: good morning, dave. we're here on 1th street near washington -- 12th street near washington. police say a man inside the home had threatened a woman with a gun. he's behind bars. police searched his home. they found several firearms. some that were real and some that were fake. police were called to the neighborhood at 7:00 last night after a woman received a threat. they took the situation very seriously since the man reportedly had numerous weapons. officers evacuated the neighborhood because they were concerned. the merge unit came and tried to talk the man out of the home. finally, shortly after 4:00 a.m., officers entered and found him hiding behind furniture. this same scenario of an armed man threatening a woman is similar to the call police responded to in march when officer mike johnson was shot and killed. the lieutenant said they have to treat situations like this very carefully. >> we're always trained to be very careful, especially when there's weapons involved. this call was no exception. we made our we took our time.

we called out the merge unit. they are the ones who took over and were able to establish contact with the suspect and take him into custody. >> reporter: the man was identified by police as 51-year- old john adams. he will be looked for making threats and assault. both are felonies. as far as the neighborhood goes, some residents had to sleep in their cars but were let back into their homes. a woman whoive wills in the home where the standoff happened sold us she was the one who was threatened by adams and she told us that she rented a room here but she didn't want to elaborate any more on what sparked this whole situation. back to you. >> janine de la vega, thank you. firefighters in the south bay are trying to figure out what caused two buildings less than two miles apart to go up in flames. both incidents happened in san jose's commercial district. the latest about 10:030 last night -- 10:30 last night. when firefighters arrived, the building was fully engulfed in

flames. about three hours earlier -- earlier, there was another fire. there were students inside. no one was injured. the fire started in an area around the welding tank. an investigation is now underway. san rafael police are warning woman who walk along the bay trail about two sawms on women -- sexual assaults on women pushing strollers. both attacks occurred near the back of the target store along the water. one happened five months ago. the second three months egg a -- three months ago. officers just learned about the attacks after the victims told a health and human services employee who informed police. >> were approached by a hispanic male wearing all black. he forced them to the ground and sexually assaulted them. on one occasion, the suspect

grabbed the victim's hand and put it on his gun that was in his waistband. >> police are encouraging any other victims to come forward saying immigration will not be called if you come forward. officers are patrolling the trail. if you live in the east bay, you notice your drinking water tastes and smells a little strange. in march we told you there were a lot of complaints from berkeley and oakland that the tap water had a bad taste. why is the taste of the -- taste of the water changing? because of the drought. east bay m.u.d. said this sunday they will change the way it draws water. instead of cold snowmelt, the water agency will draw warmer water from the service. the tap water will probably taste and smell different as a result. now, pam cook, she's looking into what you can do to blunt that funny taste and that

smell. pam will be here later in the newscast to bring you that information. caltrans is warning you drivers potential gridlock this weekend. the san mateo bridge will be closed. starting at 10:00 tonight, both directions of the san mateo bridge will be completely shut down. lane closures will start as early as 7:00 p.m. and the bridge is not due to reopen until 5:00 monday morning. caltrans is resurfacing the bridge. they are also putting down a special coating on the road. 7:10. there will be problems with b.a.r.t. as well. there will be some changes and some work on that. >> now we know. >> yes. sal will be covering all of that. growing concern for two girls from the north bay missing with their father. >> when he's on drugs, he's irrational, delusional, paranoid. >> where police suspect he may

the u.s. unemployment rate dipped a bit last month to 5.4%. that's the lowest rate since may of 2008 right before the economy crashed. the labor department also says the economy added 223,000 jobs

in april. a solid gain that suggests the economy may be recovering after stumbling at the start of the year. the job growth is not yet boosting paychecks much. in fact, average hourly wages rose just 3 cents in april to $24.87. this news, though, the jobs report is still helping the stock market. the dow is up 256 points. the nasdaq is up 59 and the s&p is up 25. all right, tori. 7:14. new video just into the newsroom, it's of google's newest startup. google opened the first campus in asia today. it's in seoul, south korea in an upscale area there. now, google will rent out space to startup companies and investors. there are similar google campuses in london and tel aviv. now, google says it picked seoul because it has a flourishing startup and smart phobe scene as well as it's close to japan and the silicon

valley. not to oversell the story, but it may be the craziest thing you've heard. a 23-year-old man is accused of robbing a bank in virginia beach. he anded a teller a -- he handed a teller a note that said i need $150,000 right now. police take three, four minutes to get here. i would appreciate you ringing the alarm a minute after i leave. they did that. police captured him shortly after. in a jailhouse interview, the map explained why his action -- man explained why his actions should not be considered a crime. >> i was not demanding the money, taking the money. i didn't do that. >> he said since he said "please" he should not be

punished. during that same interview, the man said he wanted to give a shout-out to justin bieber and first lady, michelle obama. >> that's bizarre. mcdonald's customers better hang onto your burgers, a familiar face is back to try to steal them away. this is the new hamburglar. social media is buzzing about his hipster appearance. this is a look at the old hamburglar remember him and his updated replacement. the new guy is wearing skinny jeans, a trench coat and bright red tennis shoes. reaction on social media is mixed. some people say he looks creepy. others say he's very attractive and should be released onto the world. >> and? >> well, i -- you know, not a big fan to begin with. >> i have no beef with that. >> i'm sure you don't. >> i had to say that. >> dave, the hamburglar, doesn't that make you hungry?

mateo bridge. this weekend, the san mateo bridge will be closed saturday and sunday. will open monday at 5:00 a.m. they are doing major work on the span and they have to close it in both directions. your alternates are the bay bridge, and the -- and the dumbarton bridge. so you will not be able to use the san mateo bridge. concord to walnut creek. this traffic is a nice surprise. it looks good from the benicia bridge. a little bit of slowing in pleasant hill. in walnut creek, it clears up. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. we do have some low clouds around. in fact, there is a lot more fog than i think you would normally see if the water temps weren't as cold. upper 40s, 50s. system moved out. it did leave rain. could bring more. bob and i go way back. .07 in danville yesterday. just enough to make the car wash opener -- owner smile.

there might be rain next week. another system looks like it will drop in. rainfall amounts were generally less than .10. foot of snow, bridgeport. 14 inches around mona lake. little good rain in southern california. everything has flip-flopped. look at the midwest, deep south and northeast. back in january, it was just the opposite. it was over us, they had the cool, the cold. everything is in the west and all of the warmth is in the east or in the midsection. the system with more severe weather coming out from st. louis, memphis, coming ought of dallas -- out the dallas. our first tropical system, anna, over the carolinas. 40s. had low 40s. fairfield, 40. napa was 41. half moon bay, 48 degrees. antonio said 47 degrees.

no breeze and clear. 47 is cool. those water temps, 49 san francisco buoy. 51 half moon bay. they play a major impact into our weather. once they turn cold, our weather changed. 30s up in the mountains. been pretty good snow. it's winding down for tahoe, truckee. most of the energy is heading south. get a good look at the low in southern california. 56 in las vegas. 20, 25 degrees below normal. coolest high since march. 70s through the interior. slow to rebound. fog up and down the coast sold out. the temperatures in the valley are not very warm at all. that's an impressive pattern to see fog burn that fast. it will be with us nights and mornings. it will be with us through the weekend. >> and quite a bit of snow.

>> bridgeport had a foot. it's too little, too late because the temperatures will warm up fast and it will melt. but we'll take it. >> exciting. >> yes. >> come on. >> thank you. 7:20. well, strong winds and flooding may have caused a freight train derailment in texas. this was about 50 miles northwest of dallas. four engines and 13 cars of a train trumped the track. at least four crew members were hurt but those injuries are not life-threatening. investigators say the train was not carrying hazardous materials which is good to hear. >> that is good. frightening moments caught on camera as a bus spins out of control and heads right toward an oncoming train. in 25 minutes, the simple mistake the driver made that three people hurt. and the future host of the late show says he will pay for every single teacher's grant request in his home state. up next, how stephen colbert came up with the money to make

sewage. christien kafton is at the hotel. he will tell us what the residents are saying about the situation there. good morning. welcome back to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic. how does it look, steve? >> not bad after yesterday. >> yesterday was exciting. >> now the exciting is down in southern california. they are getting rain and snow. we're getting the low clouds and cooling and a clear as air mass behind that -- and a clear air mass behind that. mono lake about a foot. hollister had decent rain yesterday. the problem is, most of the snowpack melted already. historically low levels. what fell there is nice but the temps warm up fast in may. it won't stick around very long. we'll take it. on the back side, look at this, down in southern california, they are getting slammed in ocean side and san diego. really heavy rain down there. 40s for us or 50s. fairfield, 40. it's a chilly morning.

sometimes they pick it up early. you won't have to worry about it on monday. this weekend it's out of commission. you can use the alternate routes which are the dumbarton bridge and the bay bridge. getting word of a new crash reported highway 4 at bailey road. this crash just reported just a few moments ago. they are sending the paramedic teams out there and traffic is slowing down coming out of the pittsburg on the way to baypoint and concord. 7:33. back to the desk. >> thank you. police are searching for a man who kidnapped his two daughters from their rohnert park school. alex savidge joining us live now and alex, a legal mixup allowed this parental abduction. >> yes. good morning. the mother of those girls had been granted a restraining order against their father but authorities say it didn't stop him from taking the kids. now, this morning a search is underway up and down the west coast for 9-year-old alyssa reep and her 11-year-old sister, kyra.

police say the girls were taken tuesday afternoon by 45-year- old everest dean reep. he showed up at the after when school program with an order awarding him temporary custody. police say the judge was not aware of the restraining order in place. united states with the judge -- once the judge found out, the order was rescinded. unfortunately, reep had already disappeared with the girls. >> it's a mother's worst nightmare not knowing where your babies are and if they are safe. >> the girls' mother said reep has been arrested twice before on felony charges. she said he often uses drugs and can become irrational. she sought the restraining order after he threatened coaches and spectators at a softball game. on wednesday night, a state trooper in oregon pulled him

over but he was let go. reep told the trooper that he was on his way to washington state to visit his father and so there was that one sighting but still the search goes on again up and down the west coast for the father who authorities say abducted his two girls. >> all right, alex. we'll keep talking to you. thank you. 7:35. meantime a man who worked at a children's science camp in santa clara county, he's now accused of possessing child pornography. 27-year-old edgar worked at walden west science camp. he was arrested wednesday. deputies found images and video of child pornography on his personal computer and phone. he started to work at the camp in august of 2013. he walden west has -- walden west has programs for kindergarten age through the 8th grade. new questions about the long-term stability of the bay

bridge. the chronicle reports a steel rod that helps anchor the new tower of the eastern span failed a key integrity test. the rod may have corroded when it was soaking in water. caltrans says the bridge it safe but they plan to test the strength of the rods. residents of an oakland residential hotel were forced to move out last night after tests uncovered bacteria in their tap water. some people who live there say they've been feeling sick for a while now. christien kafton is live with what's next for the residents. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we've been here for hours in front of this apartment building and haven't seen any residents coming or going. all of those residents evacuated because the building has been red tagged. the reason they have had to leave, hazardous water. now, this is just the latest problem for residents who learned last night again that they would have to evacuate.

>> i was just trying to figure out what we were gonna do. i didn't have no money to go anywhere to hang out for at least four or five hours -- especially overnight because i have to go to work. >> reporter: the city red tagged the building saying this could pose a health hazard. residents were complaining of stomach problems and asked the water to be tested on sunday. the tests came back positive saying the water was contaminated with bacteria commonly found in sewage and waste water. some residents complained about somal ailments and three residents say they had to go to area hospitals to see what was going on before they knew about the contamination. >> really grossed out by it. i've been bathing and brushing my teeth with it. i have even -- i even drank the water. >> reporter: we heard the plan

is to put the chlorine in the entire system. let it sit for 24 hours and then retest it. we've heard inspectors could be by here in a half-hour. we'll stay on scene and monitor developments. you can see some of the problems here. this building has a history of problems. 2 investigate was here and found leaks, signs of black mold. entire families living in 1 room units where the water was backing up. >> obviously quite a few problems that need to be dealt with. all right. thank you. 7:38 there's more fallout in the growing scandal over racist text messages sent between some san francisco police officers. san francisco district attorney george gascon has appointed three retired judges to review 3,000 cases for evidence of possible officer bias. we spoke with mike gabreas

about the controversy. he was arrested in 2 -- 200 for a marijuana misdemeanor. he says he still remembers the racial slur the officer used on the way to jail. >> these monkeys these [bleep] are after me. you guys have no home no family, no morals. >> what were you thinking? >> this guy is dangerous. >> his case was later thrown out. as for the officers involved in the texting scandal, they've been removed from public contact and the chief has recommended them for termination. the justice department has announced a federal investigation into the baltimore police force. the probe comes at of balt's mayor -- baltimore's mayor and focuses on the investigation. the justice department is

7:42. hillary clinton is headed back to the bay area today for more campaign fund-raising. she attended three fund-raisers in southern california yesterday. no media was allowed inside. this morning, clinton has an event scheduled at the portola valley home of john donahoe. today president obama makes his first trip to south dakota. until today, it was the only state the president had never visited. president obama is delivering the commencement address at a two-year technical institute. he becomes the fourth president to visit all 50 states. the only other presidents to hit the 50-state mark were richard nixon, george h.w. bush and bill clinton.

and david cameron will keep his job for five more years. this is video of the prime minister coming out to claim victory yesterday. polls ahead of election day show conservatives lost in a tight race with the opposition labor party. but the conservative won an easy majority of seats. the prime minister went to buckingham palace to tell queen elizabeth he has enough support to form a government. the labor department took a beating, mostly in scotland, where mostly all of their seats were lost. scotland is where one of the biggest upsets of the election took place. 20-year-old university student mhairi black became britain's youngest lawmaker since 1667. she ousted douglas alexander.

black is still finishing up her politics degree. >> wow. 7:44. a man from oakland is the latest to be arrested in a state-wide crackdown on able- bodied people misusing placards. take a look at the parking spots at zach welton. the only problem, welton is not disabled. dmv investigators say the 34- year-old waiter forged his application for a disabled parking permit, including a doctor's signature. >> he did forced a doctor's signature. the doctor said that's not my signature. he's not a patient of ours. >> that arrest is the latest in the dmv's special operation blue zone. investigators say welton raised red flags when he appealed a series of parking citations for misuse of a disabled placard last year. a bus ride that would scare

any passenger. now, keep watching. this video taken from inside a bus in philadelphia. the driver tried to make a u- turn around a freight train tuesday night but lost her grip on the steering wheel, fell off her seat. the bus careened out of control, jumped a can ceet barrier and -- concrete barrier and got stuck on the train tracks. the driver could be disciplined and punished. the driver was not wearing a seat belt. >> it's society important to do -- it's so important to do that. >> oh, boy. let's keep an eye on the roads. sal? how is the macarthur maze looking? >> we're looking at a commute where traffic is going to be a little bit slow in some areas. but it's improving on this friday. you don't have to, you know, worry about it as much as you would on a wednesday. fridays are better that way, don't you think? this is highway 80 westbound, the macarthur maze.

80, 880 and 580 traffic is okay. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, there's waiting. it's backed up. the 880 commute has improved. i want to show you highway 4. there is a report of a crash, westbound 4 at bailey road and all of a sudden that commute that had been okay is slowing down. 680 looks good from concord to walnut creek and no major problems. i do want to mention on the peninsula traffic continues to look very good if you are driving on 101 or 280. it's a nice drive from palo alto into san jose. let's go to steve. still slow. mammoth lakes is reporting heavy snow. bridgeport and mono lake had over a foot. at least we're getting snow. there's heavy rain in southern california. we're seeing an end to the system as it moves south. before we talk about the weather on triter osh -- on twitter, i feel august ward --

280 -- traffic on 880, 280. are a -- a missing oakland man and his two children has a happy ending. 12 hours ago they were rescued. tara moriarty joins us live from outside of the family's home and tara, boy, the family must be so relieved that they are back and safe. >> reporter: definitely. when the children made it into the arms of grandma, there were tears of joy. very emotional. we're not sure if they are home. we haven't seen any movement at the family house. we think they may still be up in the sierra. we know family members went up there last night. nicholas vlahos and his son and daughter were found after 8:00 outside of downieville, northeast of grass valley. the trio was rescued from a blackhawk helicopter. it was part of a large-scale search not far from the camp seat where they were last seen

tuesday morning. >> they've been airlifted out. so they've been evacuated by helicopter. and they will be flown up and reunited. qlism -- i'm very excited. glad to have them back. >> reporter: crews found the family hiking not far from their black pickup truck. this is a picture from instagram. authorities did tell us that it most likely became disabled and that's how the family became stranded. a video from the helicopter rescue should be released today. a couple of bug bites, a couple of scratches but overall in good health and the mom on a trip to kentucky had flown back and said she is quite relieved and will have a very nice mother's day. tara moriarty, back to you. >> it will be a nice mother's day to have the family all together. thank you. a police standoff near downtown san jose is over. it began around 6:30 last night when a woman called police to

say a man pointed a gun at her inside a home. she was able to escape and told police the man was still inside with several weapons. streets around the area of north 12th street between julian and washington were blocked off. people living nearby were asked to evacuate their homes. the standoff lasted all through the night. police say they were not in a rush and were waiting for the right time to make contact with the man. >> we're always trained to be careful, especially when there are weapons involved. this call was no exception. we took our time. we were very careful. we call out the merge unit and they are the ones who took over and were able to establish contact with the suspect and take him into custody. police say the man was arrested around 4:15 this morning without incident. they searched his home and found both real and fake guns. he has been identified as 51- year-old john adams and was looked for making threats and assault. people who live in the area

have been let back inside their home. firefighters in the south bay, they are investigating why two buildings less than two miles apart went up in flames last night. both fires were in the district. the latest one was 10:30 last night on fifth street. when the firefighters got there, the building was engulfed in flames. now, three hours earlier, just a couple of blocks away, there was another fire on commercial street. it happened at a welding school and students were inside at the time. they say they heard loud explosions. , ran out of the building -- explosions, ran out of the building. no one was hurt. an investigation is underway. 8:05. san rafael police are warning women who walk along the bay trail about two slaults on women -- sexual assaults on women pushing strollers. both occurred near the back of the target store along the water. one happened five months ago.

the second happened three months ago. officers say they just learned about the attacks after the victims told a health and human services employee who informed police. >> they were approached by a male wearing all black. he forced them to the ground and sexual assaulted them. in one case, the suspect grabbed the victim's hand and put her hand on on his gun in his waistband. >> police say they were afraid to come forward because of immigration issues. police are encouraging people to come forward and immigration will not be called. caltrans warning drivers about potential gridlock, the san mateo bridge will be closed. starting at 10:00 tonight, both directions on the san mateo bridge will be completely shut down. the lane closures will start as early as 7:00 p.m. the bridge is not due to open

the u.s. unemployment rate dipped to 5.4%. that's down from 5.5% in march. it's the lowest since may of 2008. the labor department also says the economy added 223,000 jobs in april -- in april, a solid gain. however, job growth is not boosting paychecks much. average hourly wages rose 3 cents in april to $24.87. the dow is up 258. the nasdaq is up 29 and the s&p is up 26. the water may taste funny

and why it may have to do with the drought. >> we first told you a couple of months ago about complaints that the tap water in berkeley and oakland tasted bad. east bay mud says the drought it to blame. usually they get their water from the sierra snowpack. the water is usually pumped from the deep cold bottom of the party reservoir. however, because of our lack of rain, the drinking water has to come from the warmer top of the reservoir and from the sacramento river. so the cold water can be saved for something else. >> we wanted to preserve as much cold water as possible, deep in the reservoir so that we can release it later in the year for the salmon. >> now, the salmon, it's actually mandated by state and federal regulations to release that water later in the year. the warmer weather may taste and smell different from what you are used to because its to contain a lot -- it does

few moments ago of this crash. it's slowing traffic out of pittsburg toward baypoint and concord. i want to show you a live picture of the backup because we have our highway 4 camera pointed that way and you can see there's the overturned vehicle. let's take a look at all of that traffic slow -- all of that slow traffic. the bottom right of the screen is still the crash, still in the same spot. this is an unexpected delay coming out of antioch on the way to concord. on 680 it's cleared up completely because people are not getting through. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, that's very nice as you drive through to the toll plaza. no major problems. as a matter of fact, the commute continues to look pretty good. i want to show you that westbound 580 as you drive through the livermore valley, that's been better than normal. a little better slow in -- better in dublin.

680 looks good heading down to the south bay. back to the desk. >> thank you. new information now on the police search for two rohnert park girls who police say were unlawfully taken by their father earlier this week. alex savidge joinings to tell us what one -- joining us to tell us what one family member is saying. >> a bit of good news, the grandmother of the two girls called ktvu this morning and said both of the girls are safe and their father is with them and in contact with police right now making arrangements to return the children. we're working still to confirm that information with police. there has been an ongoing search since tuesday for 9-year- old alyssa reep and her 11-year- old sister, kyra. police say the girls were taken on tuesday afternoon by their father. police say he came to their after-school program with an order from a mendocino county judge awarding him temporary

emergency custody but police say that judge in that case was not aware of a restraining order that had been filed against reep by the mother of his children. i talked a short time ago with reep's mother. she tells me her son took those girls to washington to visit relatives and he had no clue about the restraining order. >> i think a lot of it is a misunderstanding. they've been divorced for i think eight years. but yet, they are together. they had a baby together this last year. >> it's a mother's worst nightmare, not knowing where your babies are and if they are safe. >> reep has been arrested twice before, she says, she also says he uses drugs and can become irrational. reep's mother didn't tell us or

step for them. let's take a look at why this building is closed for right now to residents. we've not seen residents coming and going. and the reason why is pretty clear. it's the red tag. you can see what it says on the sign. the latest problem for residents. some residents were so sick they had to go to -- they had to go to the hospital. >> when we went to the hospital, i suspected the water. i would feel sick and nauseous. >> reporter: city inspectors came by and red tagged the building saying that the water could pose a health hazard. residents had been complaining about stomach and gi ailments and asked east bay m.u.d. to test the water. the tests came back positive saying the water was contaminated with bacteria. residents here tell us they were notified yesterday they would have to vacate because

the water was not safe for them to drink. >> i was just trying to figure out what we were gonna do. i didn't have no money to go anywhere to hang out for at least four or five hours, especially overnight. i do have to go to work. >> reporter: coming back to the live shot. this building does have a history of problems. 2 investigates was here several times last year and found leaks, signs of black mold, unfinished maintenance work and entire families living in one room with water backing up into that room. so obviously a history of problems here. we have put a call into the city inspector's office. they will come out today. the long-term plan, to fill the plumbing system with chlorine, let that sit for 24 hours, flush that out of the system and then test again to see if the water is clean after that. so we will try to catch up with
