ready for gridlock. >> bart is closed for maintenance and upgrades. we have a look at bay area traffic. >> hi claudine, an average of 100,000 cars drive the san mateo bridge every day, but this weekend it's shut down to traffic. caltrans is starting a 39 million project to install the bridge and install energy efficient lights. they've been working on the bridge ever since. it's closed at this hour. they're applying a protective coating to the deck and providing routine maintenance. here's a look at the live picture of the span. you can see it's eerily empty. there's no cars on either side except for the utility vehicles off to the right. they closed the lanes down 7:00 last night. the repair work is essential to keep it in operation for the

out of the city this morning. it's early, not a lot of track, other options are the dunbarton bridge and highway 23 in the south bay. let's look at the south bay, just the two utility vehicles, maybe two or three out here on the right-hand side, but no regular traffic on either side of the san mateo bridge, caltrans crews working on the span and we'll hear from salon the weekend's bridge closure. right now traffic is rolling along on that bridge. there were problems as a person was spotted on the bridge. it prompted chp to close the eastbound direction, all traffic on highway 84 was diverted to westbound university drive. >> bart is warning riders will take place this weekend. there's no service between

fruitvale and coliseum stations. passengers may have to make additional stops and transfers. they allow bart to work on the tracks. they are working on a system that guide the tracks from one track to another. they are calling for a reduction in speed for safety. there will be more service constructions in august. starting next week parking fees will go up and fees will increase by 50 cents starting on june 1st. that increase will raise the daily parking fee to $1.50, it will be $2.50 at millbury. police have arrested for a san jose man attacking a 13- year-old girl and a woman. he was arrested in san leandro after police say this they tracked him from his house in san jose. a man followed a 13-year-old girl home from school and then pushing his way inside the

house. the 8th grader fought off the attacker. he's accused of attempting to sexually assault a 28-year-old woman in a restroom at a nearby supermarket last month. >> he's a sexual predator. in my opinion, he's a monster. >> get him off the streets. that's scary, you know, especially when you start going into the middle school kids, i have two daughters of my own that are college age, i don't want people like that anywhere near them. he faces charges of burglary, attempted sexual assault and false imprisonment. he's being held at santa clara county jail. shock and disbelief as a prominent well connected political consultant is arrested on child pornography charges. 41-year-old enrique is on bail this morning. he's known in local political circles, engineered the run ad

campaign to persuade the mayor to go after the job for good. pierce was working on the mayor's current re-election campaign until he was let go right after his arrest. >> if you commit a crime, whatever extent that may be, whoever you are, or your political ties are, you're going to be held accountable. >> the mayor's office issued a statement it terminated all ties with pierce and his firm and the mayor calls the charges disturbing and serious and he's profoundly chock. he's worked with the east bay congresswoman barbara lee and he helps the supervisor jane kim win a seat on the board in 2010. the pentagon this morning raised its threat level in five years from new terrorist threats from the isis crew. that means more security guards and more unexpected drills across the country.

for this family, they were rescued in the sierra. they're all safely back home in alameda county, after being stranded for two days during their sierra camping trip. their truck slid off a narrow road. the dad an experienced camper made sure there was enough supplies and food for the kids. >> they had a 5-gallon of water and food it eat. they had a tent, but no place to put it up. >> a national guard helicopter spotted the missing trio and they helped air lift them out of the wilderness. >> what was the best thing? >> riding the helicopter. >> what was that like? >> good. >> was it scary or crazy? >> it was not scary. >> not scary? >> no, it had to be noisy right? >> not noisy, i got ear plugs.

they tracked him from his san jose home. the arrest comes day after a surveillance video shows a man following a 13-year-old girl home from school and pushing his way inside the house. there's no bart service between fruitvale and the coliseum station. passengers can board special shuttle buses but bart is warning riders their trips could take longer than usual. it allows people to repair old equipment and tracks between those two stations. resurfacing work is beginning on the bridge. they close the lanes at 7:00. the entire bridge is expected to remain closed until monday morning. the san mateo bridge is closed right now. a lot of people will be using alternate routes. we can show you that no cars are getting through here. this will continue all weekend long. they'll do it on the weekend of

severe weather today. it comes days after severe weather produced 50 tornadoes in the plays. take a look at this damage in oklahoma city. 13 people were injured, two of those people are in critical condition. winds from tropical storm ana are getting stronger as they approach the us coast according to the u.s. national hurricane center in miami. winds reached 60 miles per hour and the storm is centered about 150 miles off the beach of myrtle beach south carolina, and it's headed for north and south carolina. there are warnings of rough currents and it's expected to deliver two to four inches of rain over the weekend. a cold spring storm has produced the kind of snowfall we lacked in january and february. take a look at it this. it's winter again in yosemite national park. more than 20 inches of snow

officials say the maintenance they are doing is vital to the long-term stability of the bridge. it opened in october of 1967. >> that is a long time to be exposed to the elements. the bridge is in good shape. >> caltrans says by closing the bridge they can do the work more quickly, safely. drivers that cross the bridge on a regular basis say they agree the roadway needs maintenance but some people are wondering whether this particular weekend was the right time to do it. >> i live in hayward. it will affect my commute. >> a bad idea. mother's day weekend. how many families are going to try to cross the bay on mother's day weekend. >> caltrans plans to reopen the bridge no later than 5:00 monday morning. the span will be shut down memorial day weekend. after that the resurfacing project should be wrapped up. >> we have some options for

livermore and fairfield today. tomorrow just slightly different. a look at the extended forecast coming up. >> thank you, rosemary. the count down has begun for the san francisco international beer festival. >> it kicks off tonight and features more than 100 brewers. we sent allie to check it out. it's all brewing, right, allie? >> reporter: yeah. that's right. it doesn't get started until 5:00 to 7:00 tonight. we are showing you some of the beer you can sample. more than 150 breweries featured and 40 to 50 different restaurants. the money raised benefits the telegraph hill nursery cooperative, a parent run preschool in the city. this is a more than 30 year tradition, the san francisco beer festival, going on for 32 years. some have been coming year after year including the

gentleman i have here, josh reinhold. you can't get in until 5:00. you have been here since 6:45. >> why? >> it became a tradition. $75 at first was expensive. i decided to make a whole day. we would come, have a picnic, meet people in line, met the kids that go to the school and turned out to be more fun that way. >> you are talking about the appeal is the camaraderie inside. it must be a very friendly atmosphere. >> the energy is great. everyone is having a great time. tons of great beer and food. just a great place to be. >> you have friends you know from the beer festival. some buy you tickets? >> a few years ago i was in the process of getting married, money was tight. i wasn't going to go. a group from l.a. that i met that i never hung

out with outside of this venue pitched in and bought me a ticket. >> along with that camaraderie, the big appeal and the draw is the beer. jay is one of the brewers with pine street. what have you got here. >> we brought three beers. one is the adam splitter pale ale, that is our flagship. we brought black bay and a medium amber ale. >> when it comes to craft beer, what are the most popular types of beer. >> lots of things are ipa's. that's what they have asked the past couple of years. now more people are drinking session and return to lager. lager for decades was the popular style. >> why are people into ipa's. >> they are bitter but have a lot of citrus and grapefruit flavors which are refreshing. it was the counter culture to american lager's. >> different from what was the

standard for so many years. >> exactly. >> i have to point out that the tickets are $75 if you want the vip ticket, $175 but this is what they give you when you come in, beer shot glasses. you have a lanyard, you wear it around your neck and they tell you do not lose this because this is what you will sample all the beers throughout the afternoon. again, vip access at 5:00 then the whole thing gets started at 7:00. they have tickets but usually it sells out. last year 3,000 people. >> big party at fort mason. the pentagon has raised its threat level to the highest point in five years after threats from isis. that means more security checks, guards and unexpected drills at u.s. military bases across the country. according to the fbi director, isis followers in the u.s. are being urged to attack u.s. troops and their families.

low 60s for today. i will have a look at the numbers for your neighborhood coming up. all right. things got wild from tourists at yellowstone national park. you can see they are walking briskly. check it out. this video was posted by the montana fish and wildlife. it shows people on this bridge. they were taking pictures when that mama bear and her cubs went running down the street. people were trying to either run for their cars, snap a picture or both. no one was hurt but the fish and wildlife folks say you should get out of there way, let those bears go where they need to be. bear season has kicked off. the water will officially be turned back on at water world. you may notice changes. a spokesperson for the park said they spent about $2 million on upgrades this year to help cut back on water use during the drought. one upgrade includes new water filters designed to reduce the

more than 37 million americans are expected to head out for memorial day weekend. that's the highest number of memorial day travelers since 2005. nearly nine out of ten travelers will drive to their destinations. a number of people flying should jump by 2.5% compared to last year. cheaper gas prices and the improved job market gave people more confidence to travel. mother's day is tomorrow and many bay area businesses are gearing up to help you celebrate. according to the national retail federation, mother's day spending is expected to reach $21 billion which is the highest in 12 years. many people may head out to restaurants for a nice meal. flower shops are expecting an overflow of last minute orders.
