good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. san francisco's mission district has become a battleground for affordable housing and balancing the growth of the tech industry with the needs of low-income residents. brian flores is live in the city where supervisors are taking sides over a proposed moratorium on some new and much- needed housing. good morning, brian. >> reporter: hi, good afternoon, tori. it certainly has divided the city. one supervisor wants to put a

stop on future housing. another says, that's not a good idea. many who live in the mission district say they are being forced out of their homes because they say they can't afford to live there anymore. they say the reason has to do with the technology boom going on in the silicon valley and parts of san francisco. we were at a rally inside san francisco city hall where many residents voiced their frustration calling on the mayor to take action. supervisor david campos and the protesters are calling a moratorium and also a one-year halt on evictions. for many who live there, they say this top sick very emotional. >> i'm in deal little city. i can't afford san francisco where i was born and raised. it's heartbreaking. you can't be where all of your memories and feelings and love. it's difficult. >> reporter: but is putting a stop to adding more market rate housing the answer?

it's being led by mike farrell and scotten wiener. they -- scott wiener. they are calling an economist to do this report in a month and come back to the supervisors so they can put it to a vote. but this has divided the city in terms of the supervisors on the topic. we were hoping to hear from supervisor farrell. we hope to hear his sound coming up on the news at 5:00 and 6:00 tonight. back to you. >> thank you. fremont police are investigating a deadly crash involving a bicyclist and big rig. it happened at 8:30 on the south fremont boulevard overpass above 880. the female bicyclist died at the scene. police closed down one of the southbound lanes on the bridge while they investigated. the truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. there's no word yet on what caused the accident or who was

at fault. in vacaville, an elementary school student was slightly hurt when engine coolant sprayed inside the bus. the city spokesman says the vacaville united district bus was carrying special needs students to school. the bus was on peabody road when a heater hose broke. hot liquid sprayed one student who was in the back of the bus near the engine. that student's injuries are described as very minor but the child was taken to the hospital as a precaution. the other children were picked up by another bus and taken to school. two mississippi police officers are dead after being shot during a traffic stop this weekend. now four people are facing criminal charges in connection to the crime. but as kelly wright reports, there's still many unanswered questions about the suspects and their motivation. >> two felonies were committed. we need to grieve with the officers.

>> reporter: people in mississippi are mourning the loss of two police officers who were gunned down over the weekend. the killings happened late saturday night in hattiesburg. police say 34-year-old officer benjamin deen pulled over a vehicle for speeding and then called for backup. when fellow officer, 25-year- old, liquori tate arrived, they went up to the car. that's when someone from inside began shooting killing both men. >> for someone to just gun down a policeman without having any meaning to it, it needs to stopped. >> reporter: marvin banks and joni cal lowway are -- callowway are charged with capital murder. a third man, curtis banks has been charged with accessory and another man is nas -- is facing charges of obstruction of justice. >> we know they were felons.

so i think that's all we have. >> reporter: as the investigation continues, the mayor is asking this small community to pull together. >> you can't have these kinds of events happening in the community and you solve them in a matter of hours. i think what we need to do is celebrates the lives of these two individuals. >> reporter: all four suspects make their first court appearances on monday. a memorial service for the officers is planned on monday as well. a search is underway in the north bay for a man suspected of stabbing another man to death outside his santa rosa home. police responded to a report of a fight just after 3:00 a.m. outside of the house on redtail street and found the victim on the ground. he was pleading from one stab wound. paramedics rushed the man to the hospital but he died before they got there. one person was detained. otherses are being inter-- oh,

are being interviewed -- others are being interviewed. traffic is flowing across the bridge once again. the bridge reopened around 4:00 a.m. this morning, about an hour ahead of schedule. caltrans closed the span on friday night and crews were burcy all -- busy all weekend repaving a one-mile section of the bridge. the road bed was removed and a new poliestert con-- polyester concrete mix was put down. the biggest i paget was the -- impact was the bay bridge where the toll plaza was packed with cars well into sunday night. it was a frustrating driver for many drivers and they will have to deal with the same issues against in a couple of weeks when they close the bridge during memorial day weekend to continue this project. it was eatier for some -- easier for some caltrain riders to find a seat during this morning's commute as longer trains hit the streets force

the first time. caltrains -- streebts -- streets for the first time. caltrains rolled out the trains for the first time today. a dozen six-car trains will be running during peak times. caltrain has seen four straight years of ridership increases. it 16 used cars from the metrolink system. riders say the additional cars are desperately needed. >> it's welcomed. we've been waiting for extra cars. some of these morning lines that go southbound are really full. i see a lot of people on 22nd, denied passage on their bikes. >> four of those cars were put into service today, the others need more repair work and will be rolled out within the next year. it turns out these longer trains present a problem because certain platforms are

not designed to accommodate those, meaning the passengers have to walk to the neighboring car to get off. caltrain will be working to upgrade the station. the golden state warriors tip off in a few hours in memphis. in a pivotal game 4. they trail 1-2 in the best of seven series. we're live in memphis. we just heard from warriors' center david lee. >> reporter: it's not technically a must-win game 4 but it's pretty darned important. they've had a couple of days to figure things out, make some adjustments. the most obviously will be the reinsertion of david lee into the rotation. lee and his teammates worked out about a half-hour ago. his usage tonight, largely a function of the calf injury to spates. lee has not played much this postseason but hee is a -- but he's a former all-star with plenty of experience. >> my mindset doesn't change.

plane pulled up. there are no reports of injuries. skywest the cause of the failure is under investigation. an oakland business owner whose property was damaged in the mayday protests is fighting back with a paintbrush. eric owns an auto repair shop on prodway -- on broadway. he's painting over the damaged property. he's referring to the city's mayor and chief of police. the hyundai dealership nearby was also targeted. dozens of cars had their windshields smashed in. he says the new mayor promised they would help with merchants since the police fell short. >> i would think that's a low- interest loan on my tax money. so they are gonna charge me interest on money i paid? i don't know.

i think we'll remain partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at the coast for the rest of us, sunshine. we do have a weak system that's moving over the north of us. the tail end just moving through california. this is going to continue to move east but what a has done for us -- what it has done is bring us the cool weather, breezy at times, even windy in san francisco along the coastline perhaps inside the bay. there is a second system and that's the one that may actually bring us some rain. i will push you through a few days ahead as we get into monday and tuesday. pretty much dry weather. partly cloudy skies. temperatures on the cool side. you can see tuesday afternoon going to be mostly sunny. it's wednesday when this next system drops out of the gulf of alaska and moves closer to california. we're into wednesday afternoon. notice we have showers over the north half of california. we have a few sprinkles popping up over the bay area. we're gonna leave in a slight chance for wednesday. it looks like thursday will be the best bet that we'll pick up rain and the models are

u.s. stocks drifting mostly lower in afternoon trading as falling oil prices pulled down stocks. right now, taking a live look at the big board, the dow is down 60. the nasdaq is down just a fraction and the s&p is down 6. next season will be the last for american idol. fox made it official by sending out this tweet this morning say it will begin the 15th and final season in january of 2016. the current judges will stay on board, along with ryan seacrest. fox says former judges and contestants are expected to drop in which could include simon cowell known for his brutally honest critiques. the showed premiered in 2002. it's launched a number of pop stars including kelly clarkson, the first season winner, as well as jennifer hudson and carrie underwood. the two-night finale begins
