ended up spreading to within 100 feet of the shore. castro valley firefighters put out a grass fire yesterday. crews with the hayward fire department attacked the fire to keep the flames from spreading and in san bruno, south city fire, cal fire, county fire and north county fire worked to control a 12-acre grass fire on san bruno mountain yesterday afternoon. it took them a couple hours to get the flames under control. one fire chief says some people may have to wait as long as 15 minutes for help after calling 911 for a house fire. starting today 9 firefighters will be responsible for 250 square mile area. the east contra costa county fire district. ktvu's john sasaki is live from the fire station that is now closed. john? >> reporter: this fire station shut down for good at 8:00 a.m. this morning and now thousands of people are further away from

season. >> john, thank you. a short time ago the nfl suspended new england patriots quarterback tom brady for four games for deflate-gate. an nfl investigation found that tom brady likely knew about the deflated footballs used during the afc championship game. they could be easier to grip, especially in bad weather. tom brady declined to comment thursday saying he hadn't read the report. the nfl fined the patriots a million dollars and took away two draft picks. they said the team violated the rules and failed to cooperate with the investigation. tom brady can appeal his suspension within three days. a lot of reaction is coming in online. including this tweet from jerry rice, to win four super bowls is outstanding. i know tom brady is a great competitor, i feel sorry for him and pates nation. magic johnson said with tom

and legs. the thief may not have realized the boy was in the car. passengers on board a flight to los angeles were told to brace this morning as the plane landed without landing gear. the pilot called ahead saying the left main landing gear would not extend and requested an emergency landing. you see what happened right there. there were 40 passengers and three crew members on board. the jet landed smoothly. no one was injured and passengers say the way the crew handled the situation was incredible. a snoozing stow away takes a california boat owner by surprise. a baby sea lion stuck on board. the boat owner captured the visitor's intrusion on his cell phone. >> got to go. got to go. >> reporter: a play full but unwanted house guest.

a shooting incident this afternoon. -- incident this afternoon. police in lake mary say one fire was fired. the gunman was involved in another incident with george zimmerman last year. he was acquitted in the shooting death of trayvon martin in 2013. george zimmerman was acquitted in the killing. sheryl sandberg is back at work after her husband died and today facebook held a moment of silence to honor her husband, surveymonkey ceo david goldberg. he died last weekend while on vacation in mexico with his wife and family. facebook says sheryl sandberg returned to the office on a modified schedule. she plans to work while her children are at school but suspended travel. the decision was based on advice from psychologists who suggested returning to the family's routine. california law makers are in line for a raise thanks to a

panel that sets the pay of elected officials. the commission voted to boost salaries 3%. the third raise since an 18% pay cut during the recession. it will boost salaries to more than $100,000. the raise is set to go into effect in december and when that happens the governor will make $182,000 a year. lieutenant governor $137,000. and attorney general kamala harris $159,000 a year. a hit tv show for years. fox says it was a tough decision but today they announced the next season of american idol will be its last. the official word was delivered on twitter along with this picture of ryan seacrest and keith urban, singer and actress jennifer lopez, and singer harry connick, jr. the show will begin its 15th and final sees january 20 -- season january 2016. the judges are staying on for a

the district attorney's office added new mall station charges against a camp counselor. the 27-year-old made his first court appearance this afternoon. they are charging him with molesting a 10-year-old student. he worked that camp since 2013. the sheriff's department tells ktvu they have been getting called from parents over his arrest ever since the child pornography charges were announced last week. >> we are concerned there are more victims out there. if your there -- if you believe they were touch under appropriately or had inappropriate contact police call us. >> prosecutors found 500 child pornography images. he is due back in court may 20.
