south bay, firefighters are putting out hot spots from a 10- acre grass fire. south of morgan hill. it broke out before 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. burned a hillside. firefighters put the fire out before it spread to two nearby homes. >> today is a busy day. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> nice winds with the low pressure from the north. usually produces a stiff wind in the valley. with the fuel, all it takes is ignition and wind. it is off to the races. >> no word on how the fire started. strong winds where the fire started tonight and our chief meteorologist bill martin is here with a look at the conditions and the fire danger. >> you 3rd firefighter talking about the low-pressure system off shore. did add to the winds today. sfo gusting to 40. this is the pattern. it is not a big time fire weather pattern but it could be a problem for firefighters. the trough is dropping down like this. that is the jet stream. drown in there. this is an unusual pattern for this late in the season. created the winds and look how

cool temperatures are. you have the winds. temperatures are down. because of the winds humidity is up. right? strong winds and humidity up and the temperature down, worked out so they get a handle on that. these conditions could have been worse if it wasn't so moist and cool. 36 miles per hour gusts at sfo. 26 miles per hour hayward. those are big winds but blowing in cooler air. this is just the beginning. big drought. this year we are going to talk a lot about fires. when i come back we will talk about the chance the low pressure will usher in. back in after the break. in contra costa county homeowners are basissing for a rough -- bracing for a rough fire season as one fire station closes its doors and now 9 firefighters will be responsible for 250 square miles in and around that area.

ktvu's john sasaki tells us the closure means it could take crews 15 minutes to respond to a house fire. >> this is where we plan to retire. >> reporter: he loves living on the delta. >> couple of boats. spend a lot of time on the water. >> living here is more risky because help is 5 miles further away. >> scares the heck out of me. >> that is scary. i know that a few years back, down the road here, there was a big fire at a home and it want to the ground. -- burnt to the ground. . >> reporter: they shuttered the fire station after residents voted down a benefit assessment. it means the temporary closure

of a fire station now permanent. >> final impacts will have different outcomes. it may have been a single house, it could be two houses. >> the fire district covers 249 square miles and 105,000 residents. now with just 3 fire stations and 9 firefighters. >> we hope our neighboring agencies are available to help. no guarantees in that. >> reporter: this means for many people the fire response times are going up. >> you will see 15, 16 minute response times. >> if there is no traffic, probably. >> reporter: some people's fire insurance could triple in cost and some people may no longer be eligible for coverage. this comes before a dangerous fire season. in contra costa county, john

sasaki, ktvu fox 2 news. >> stay with ktvu fox 2 news on air and online throughout the fire season. we are posting updates on fires and conditions on twitter and facebook and on our ktvu mobile app. we have breaking news out of san francisco. a woman was injured after being hit by car after 5:00 p.m. at 13 13th and hairston streets. the victim was taken to san francisco general hospital. the driver did remain at the scene. police are processing the scene and closed surrounding streets and they are asking drivers to avoid the area till they are done with the investigation. san francisco prosecutors say someone is being charged with six felonies in a child pornography case. he was charged with possessing 600 images of child pornography. he was working for san francisco mayor ed lee. >> disappointed at him being charged with that. but be that as it may, if the

investigation shows what charges are he has to be prosecuted. >> he worked on the run, ed, run campaign and the mayor's reelection campaign. mayor ed lee terminateload contracts with him. -- terminated all contracts with him. . nadia lockyer says she expecting another child with her husband former state treasurer. she made the announcement on facebook. they also have an 11-year-old son. a drug and sex scandal prompted nadia lockyer to resign her position as supervisor in 2012. she then went into drug rehab. the 74-year-old bill now works for a law firm in orange county and they spend much of their time in southern california. game four of the warriors and grizzlies series minutes away. we caught the warriors on the court in memphis today and with

golden state down 2-1, tonight's game is crucial. warriors fans are packing into bars to cheer their team on to victory. ktvu's noelle walker is live in san francisco. crowded? >> reporter: it is starting to get crowded. past playoff games and bars have been packed with fans. because this is a monday, a work day monday, they were late in coming but you can see the bar is starting to fill up with lots of warriors fans. although the team is away the fans will be staying close to

the tv tonight watching. the warriors dropped two games in a row. they have only done that once before, both losses came on the heels of a big win and their star steph curry named the nba's most valuable player. >> i think they are tired from the celebrations and i think there is too much talk about them winning the championship before they got past the second round. i feel you are jinxing it when you are having that conversation before you got there. >> the post season is already a success. since the playoffs started steph curry geared top sales in the nba, up 378%. it is sold in 50 states and top selling in 39 states. the warriors are cashing in too, top selling team in the nba. up 350% from last year. this is an important game for the warriors because if they lose tonight game 5, which is back in oakland, is a do or die situation for them. they would have to win game 5 if they lose tonight and game 5 is on wednesday. >> all right.

emergency crews in san francisco had a busy morning responding to three incidents on the same block. started at 8:45 a.m. with a call of an unresponsive

person. the call turned out to be a drug over dose. and a car slipped into reverse at the bottom of a parking garage and ended up stuck between two floors. then a car hit a fire truck that was responding to the car incident. no reports of injuries in either accident and police are investigating. there is no reports of anyone coming forth and saying they were hurt. new at 6:00 p.m. a warning about a rarely seen disease spreading mosquito in the bay area. it could spread dangerous diseases and tonight it has been found in alameda county. ktvu's tom vacar looks that mosquito, how it got here and if you should be worried about

it. >> reporter: a tiny mosquito that could spread nasty diseases. it was detected for the first time in the bay area two years ago. now this is the first ever appearance in alameda county specifically, an industrial area. >> typically the way they are introduced is in the egg form. >> reporter: she says the eggs are brought in from over seas on cargo ships. the mosquito that hatch are disease free and need bite someone with the disease. >> right now in the united states we have few people who have these diseases where a mosquito can bite them and take their blood with that virus and bring it to another person. the risk is extremely low. >> reporter: it is possible someone who traveled to a diseased area could bring it back here in their blood and that way it could be spread. >> we have to be sure to apply our mosquito abatement. >> reporter: now that we know they are here, use traps like these to designate where they

are and go into that area to eliminate them. >> we hope it is an early detection and it is localized and we can eliminate it. >> we have to do everything we can do to decrease the population. >> no standing water for them oo breed -- to breed. . >> we ask that you keep it screened or covered so mosquito can't get to it. >> reporter: the public health agency is succeeding by finding and dealing with the issue before it becomes a problem. tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. cal train rolled out longer trains to help ease over crowding for commuters. >> six additional cars were added today. the first longer train pulled in at 6:15 a.m. this morning. each car adds 150 seats. eventually there will be a

dozen longer trains. cal train bought 16 used train cars from the metrolink. riders say they come just in time. >> welcomed. we have been waiting waiting for extra cars. morning lines southbound are really full. and i see a lot of people denied passage. >> it turns out the longer trains present a problem at some stations. certain platforms are not designed to accommodate six trains. they say they plan to upgrade the stations. looking for ways to cut water use during the drought as it battles wildfires. water is the best way to put out the flames and they expect a lot of fires. once the fire is contained crews will use other methods. >> there are tactics we can use

in the mop up stageles. >> officials say they are trying to reduce the water used during training. sacramento today river protection group called on the lienale slater to do more to protect rivers during the drought. they would like to see increased ground water storage. it would cost $9 billion. our weather. our chief meteorologist bill martin. i have driving the other day and i am noticing all the lawns dying. yeah. laughter ] >> we have rain, though. give our lawns a few more weeks. i want to show you the jet stream right now. it is an active pacific. dropping down like this. right? these are the upper level winds. these winds are typically bringing rain, what it is doing for susincreasing the winds, cooling -- us is increasing the winds, cooling the temperatures. keep us in this pattern for this week and next. staying the course, if you will till high pressure warms us up again. 25 miles per hour wind is sustained at the oakland airport. breezy. with the fires, cooler, moister air inland. even though it is windy, 36 miles per hour gusts, at sfo. even though the winds are hard. the temperature and humidities help with fire fighting.

next few weeks we will deal with suppressed fire danger because of the cooler conditions. and the rain is possible wednesday night into thursday. >> 70s in the napa valley, sacramento. most of us in the 60s range with 50s along the coast. you see the pattern here, which is what we had last week and next week too. low 60s coast side. mid-70's inland. your temperature spread. 10-15, 20 degrees spread. not extreme. but microclimates showing up. wednesday night into thursday, this shows us. brings us a chance of showers. chances look better and better all along here. we could see 10th of an inch, half inch in the santa cruz mountains. in the mountains, we saw 20 inches the last storm last week. we could see this type of system could be a snow producer. a foot, foot and a half of snow

in some places. that is good too. that water gets into the reservoirs. these are the highs tomorrow. 67 santa clara. 62 san bruno. highs for tuesday, wednesday looks like those. and your five-day forecast, this is wednesday night into thursday, maybe friday morning. but in the mountains, mountain travel wednesday, thursday, friday, snowy. i don't know if we will get a winter storm warning but we will get an advisory for the mountains. wouldn't that be interesting. wouldn't break the drought but it helps. >> wish we had the snow like november and december -- [ talking at the same time ] >> thank you. the watt agency announced the winners of the -- water agency announced the winners of the water awareness video contest among teens. >> this time saving water is
