drizzle. especially on the caldecott. >> yes. the east bay seems to be taking the bankrupt of it. san francisco and oakland and up in the oakland/berkeley hills. decent amounts coming in. low clouds have banked up to the sacramento area and even auburn. there is a lot to go around. some of the totals coming in. tilden park, 12/100ths. duboce triangle. .06. oakland .06. the marina .06. sfo, .01. another system is rotating in. as it takes the turn, it keeps the fog going. thunderstorms will pop up again. especially in mendocino county and lake county. calms down in the morning. fires up in the afternoon. boom. there will be more of those today and in the sierra.

50s on the temps. they've been warming up. they are not cold anymore. there's still a breeze. west at fairfield, 16 to 22. west at oakland, the pattern not changing much. there is a lot of low clouds, drizzle. it will be breezy to windy. thunderstorms to the north. maybe even northern napa. 60s and 70s. here he is, mr. sal castanedo. good morning, sir. >> good morning. we do have some slow traffic out there. traffic is backed up for 25, 30 minute delay at the toll plaza. you will see slow traffic on the san mateo bridge. the drizzle is really -- it seems like rain. for all intents and purposes, it is. it's slowing down the commute. southbound 101 petaluma we've been telling you about that crash. they are clearing. it's really backing traffic up

into rohnert park. southbound 101, that earlier crash in south city has been cleared. we also mentioned traffic on 880 southbound as busy in pockets from hayward to fremont. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. and early-morning police pursuit of a stolen dump truck ended with a crash in daly city that injured four people including the suspect. that crash happened at san jose avenue which is a busy intersection. fox 2 reporter, tara moriarty, is there live and is the road still closed, tara? >> reporter: it still is. i don't know if we can pan over here to the left. you can see that traffic is sort of backing up here on the side streets and the muni line is also's affecting the 14. that's experiencing delays. there were a lot of stops here on the street. this is the block is shut down here on san jose. there's quite a bit of diesel

on the roadway. that rainbow looking street. if we pan to the left, you can see where city crews are out with sand and they are trying to make sure they soak up the diesel. we know the median is where the dump truck crashed. it also crashed into amy -- into a minivan with three people inside. the impact of the crash was so great, the van slid 100 feet crashing into a parked car. all three people in the minivan were rushed to san francisco general with minor to seer yours injuries. the -- -- serious jrgs. an officer tried to perform a traffic stop on the dump truck. police say he tried to ram the patrol car and led police on a four-mile chase through three cities. now city crews have a big cleanup on their hands.

>> there's been a diesel spill from the dump truck. a lot of fuel has been spilled on the streets. the investigation team is out doing our thing and we're continuing to monitor the investigation as far as the accident and we'll go from there. >> florinay at san jose will be shut down for another hour. they believe about 75 gallons possibly stilled. again, the muni line, the 14 is being affected by this. the suspect could face charges of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, evading an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle. quite a few charges. we're waiting for a mugshot to let you know who the suspect is. in the meantime, we would definitely advise avoiding this particular intersection. live from daly city, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> all right. we'll check back for an update. thank you. san francisco police are asking the public's help in finding the person who maliciously attacked and elderly woman on mother's day

in chinatown. the victim a 77-year-old grandmother, is now in a coma. her family worries she will never wake up. she was exiting a bus ten days ago when she was attacked by another woman. the grandmother was not robbed. just beaten. a good samaritan later helped her to the curb and the grandmother was able to make it home. but three days after the attack, the victim lost consciousness. >> the key is we need to speak to the good samaritan that helped her off the bus to sit down and recover. he might have witnessed the ent tire incident. or if there's any other witnesses that can help narrow down the field of search. >> this is a very several salt. very severe damage and injury. and she doesn't deserve that and not only that, she suffer. >> and complicating matters, is police do not know on which bus the attack occurred. muni is looking at surveillance

foolage on four lines in hopes of identifying the attacker. the crews cleaning you up the big oil spill along the santa barbara coast are working around the clock trying to minimize the environmental damage. this occurred from a broken underground pipe with more than 20,000 gallons getting into the ocean. governor brown declared a state of emergency to free up funding for the cleanup. the houston-based company are taking responsibility for that spill. five years ago, this company pleged to improve its leak detection technology when it was cited by the federal government for ten separate oil spills in the midwest. >> we deeply, deeply regret that this incident has occurred at all. we apologize for the damage that it's done to the wildlife and to the environment. >> more than 300 environmental cleanup contractors and first responders are out there on the scene with even more cleanup

experts coming in today. two popular state beachers nearby, they are now closed through the holiday weekend. now, coming up in a half-hour, we'll take you live to santa barbara county. we'll get a live update on the progress of that cleanup. 7:08. a ktvu camera was rolling. we caught dirt bike riders speeding down a san francisco street and we found out the police approach to this, don't chase them. here's what happened tuesday on haight street. you can see this biker doing wheelies and then smiling back at a san francisco police officer. that biker and the others with him got away. police are getting a lot of complaints from several neighborhoods about bikers racing and doing these street stunts. but police greg suhr said officers have their orders, don't chase the bikers. >> we certainly don't want to get in a chase situation where somebody gets hurt, busting a light or busting a stop sign. it's just -- it's not a good

situation. >> the police chief says instead they are using other tactics to identify who these speeders are, including checking the videos of bikers that are posted online. political polling is going high-tech. a new app created here in the bay area allows voters to weigh in on legislation and hot button issues with the swipe of a finger. alex savidge is here now to explain what it is all about. >> good morning. this app offers and easy way to voice your opinion on issues you care about both nationally and local little. it's called countable. you can weigh in on the affordable care act, medical marijuana, human trafficking. now, the app came out a year ago but it makes its debut in san francisco today. so i click here on the local tab here. you can see a whole host of issues in san francisco that you can voice your opinion on and if you click on one of the particular issues here, let's take this issue of massage

$14 million. >> something like that. >> sal and i we will talk about it off the air and stuff like that. you got other things to talk about, sal. >> yes, we do. if we can only talk about warriors instead of all of this heavy traffic. but you need to know. you need to know. highway 4 is slow now. the morning commute is a little affected by some of the wet weather. speeds are a little bit slower because of some of that wet weather. highway 4 will be slow. 680 from pleasant hill to walnut creek and highway 24 as you drive through la fayette and orinda pretty slow. we're also looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. you will see the traffic here is going to be slowing down as you drive through. there are no major problems there. i want to mention that the nimitz freeway has been getting very slow southbound. just after 2:38. that's the normal slowdown. it doesn't get better until you reach stevenson. 580 itself has not been all that bad coming from livermore and getting to the dublin grade

near the coast and -- coupling in near the coast and bay, it's on the mild side. it is. thunderstorms just continue nonstop in the afternoon over mendocino county and lake county. they have been rumbling up there. i expect that to happen. 56 sfo. 57 mountain view, livermore, concord. these are much warmer. novato, santa rosa, napa. 16, though, 22 gusts. west oakland, west at sfo. 51 to 56. these are up about 3, 4 degrees. keep an eye on these. i think the pattern changes. we'll stay right back in that. it's a cool pattern for most. a little bit warmer on the mild side. not as below average. a far cry inland. i think into friday as well. low clouds and then there's plenty of gray to did around. breezy to windy especially once the low cloud deck. showers to the north. thunderstorms, 50, 60s, coast and bay. and then low 70s mainly for some inland. temperatures continue to be held in check a good 10 degrees

traffic. i ran outside. >> chilly. >> not raining but the parking lot is wet. >> it does look damp. there's been a lot of the drizzle, san francisco, oakland, marin county, santa cruz mountains. so the gray is there. temperatures on the coast have been coming up a little bit. water temps are warmer. it's not as cold as it was a couple of days ago. temps will still be remaining belowage for this time of year. should be near 80. that's not going to be the case today. too much in the way of low clouds and thunderstorms sierra nevada and also up to mead and lake county. don't see that changing any time soon. hayward is reporting light rain. duboce triangle, sausalito, .06. san francisco .0 a. the marina at .05. i think mt. diablo, .03. there were decent amounts coming in. series of lows continue to carve themselves out. they rotate them around.

pieces of energy ejected out u some hang back and that's what's giving this a lot of thunderstorm activity. things calm down at night. you can see more of those. maybe into saturday. a little bit warmer here on the lows. we're seeing more mid-50s. there's still a breeze. it's out of the west, southwest or west. it's an onshore breeze. if you have the sun, it's nice. there will be a breezy to windy day for some. low clouds, breezy at times to downright windy. occasionally drizzle which lets up. it will probably pick up tonight into tomorrow morning. thunderstorms for the north later this afternoon. 60s or low 70s. sal, we had a couple of things going on. slow traffic plus? we have a couple things. right now, we have a look at some of the commutes commutes. 880 between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze

is taking 32 minutes. the traffic is going to be slow when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, at least a 25, 30- minute delay at the toll plaza. and the 880 approach is especially bad. i want to mention another crash on the way to san francisco airport. this time northbound 101 and millbrae, just after the millbrae exit right before the san francisco airport exit. so you want to avoid that. if you are traying to get to the airport, what you might want -- if you have the time is get off the freeway and use frontage roads to get around the problem on freeway or just give yourself extra time on northbound 101 or approach from 380, use 28 to approach from 380 if you want to be ultrasafe. i want to show you a new video of a dump truck being rolled away. this truck was involved in a police chase. it smashed into vehicles. there was a bunch of diesel fuel spilled. this is on san jose avenue, daly city right on the san francisco/daly city border. they've hauled the truck away

but they still have to clean up a lot of diesel. it could be slick. the slick weather is not making it easy to clean up the spill. they want to contain it. so i would avoid san jose avenue. tara will have an update on this and how it happened coming up at 8:00. 7:35. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you. more oil spill cleanup experts have arrived in santa barbara county. assessing the damage from tuesday's big oil spill and trying to figure out how to remove that met from the california -- mess from the california coastline. adam housely joining us live. the beach is off limits to the public this weekend. what's it like out there? is it getting better or worse? >> reporter: well, dave, i don't think it has gotten better. i think they have a better plan. there's still a lot of oil out here. a lot of cleanup. i'm gonna step away. you are seeing one of the booms being pulled out from the

shore. this is private companies joining this cleanup effort along with the pipeline company, exxon and some of the other agencies involved like the coast guard. epa is overseeing this whole thing since the spill originated from the shore. you are seeing them pull out a. boo. we saw some of these booms yesterday. yesterday, there were a lot of boats doing cleanup looking for wildlife. those boats have moved down coast as they go back and forth trying to sop up as much oil as they can. you are seeing hand crews that have come out here this morning. we were told last night they are gonna double the number of people with the cleanup -- we saw at least -- i i think 65 or 70 by my count doing the shore cleanup themselves. we're told those numbers are gonna double. they also got approval to work 24 hours. le. they will be doing it -- they will be doing it overnight. we also don't yet have any numbers of wildlife that have

been affected. we've seen pictures of pelicans and some fish. but we have no official numbers of how many have been affected from the oil. i can tell you we saw dolphins out here. we saw some pelicans fly over and it appeared one or two of them may have had oil on their bellies. but you don't don't know for sure. -- don't know for sure. back here live, you are seeing this boom come out and you will see the boat off the shore. they are gonna pull this boom out to the boat and this boat will try to corral some. oil here off refugio state beach. if you are in in northern california, driving through southern california and after you drive pass the santa maria area, eventually the 101 and 1 combine that's where this oil spill is located. you can hear the helicopters coming and assessing the

situation. 10 a 5,000 gallons of oil was spilled. the great majority is onshore. that's an easier cleanup. as i mentioned, 20,000 gallons was enough to cause significant damage here. it looks like it will be weeks before they have the area cleaned up. >> what an update. thank you for that report. we'll talk to later. imagine walking down the street minding your own business when you get randomly attacked. that's what happened to two people in san jose. this morning, police caught the suspects. janine de la vega joins us live from san jose in the neighborhood where they were captured. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. this neighborhood is in north san jose. it's a middle-class neighborhood. not high crime. this took homeowners offguard. they are glad the suspects are stopped before things escalated more. police say the suspects are responsible for attacking a woman in her 30s at 9:45 last night. she was walking near a bus stop

when she was punched in the stomach by a group of teens in dark clothing. this 15 minutes laterrer an elderly man was walking. he was hit in the head and beat up by suspects fitting the same description. shortly after neighbors reported seeing a suspicious group of teens in nearby kataldi park. police set up a perimeter and caught one of the suspects. k-9s caught the other three hiding in a backyard. >> i'm definitely grateful for people who keep their eyes open and report something suspicious even if it doesn't amount to anything. in this case it did. lord, bless them. >> reporter: police say two of the suspects confessed to committing the assaults last night. their ages range between 15 to 19 years old. two of them had their legs bandaged because they were pitten by the police dogs. -- bitten by the police dogs. they are booked for assault and

robbery. police will sinkg see if they are linked to other crimes in neighboring cities such as milpitas. a scary situation for neighbors here to look outside and see the officers and people hiding in backyards. >> it looks like a nice, quiet friendly neighborhood. certainly a shock for them. >> thank you. 7:40. we are getting word a man had it by a taser at los angeles international airport yesterday is from the airport. authorities say 21-year-old christian james heinz was booked for trespassing and resisting arrest. he ran through a screening area and terminal 6. airport officials tased him. etch was taken to a hospital for treatment -- he was take on a hospital -- take on a -- taken to the hospital for treatment. a chase began with a

traffic stop around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. police say the driver bumped an officer, rammed his patrol car and sped off. he hit another patrol car and blew a tire. the chase went into the tunnel. police say just before reaching the oakland end, the suspect crashed into a minivan carrying four people. the suspect tried to run. >> i saw him running. i had got out of my car screaming that he hit my kids. the next thing i know the cops jumped him. he was trying to get away. >> the driver was arrested and taken by the ambulance. his two passengers were also arrested. the family in the van was not injured. 7:41. a marin county middle school teacher is on leave this morning. administrators investigating student claims that he showed pornographic images on the projection screen. according to the marin ij, it happened last week while about a dozen students were working on a classroom project during a lunch break. the teacher was using his

personal laptop computer. it was connected to a projection screen in that room. now, a police report says at some point, pornographic images poched up on the screen -- poched up on the screen and the -- popped up on the screen and the teacher turned off it. police found no evidence of a crime. they might revisit the matter. it depends what the school decides. a former camp counciller is now facing new allegations of making and distributing and making child pornography. 27-year-old edgar covarrubias appeared in court yesterday. covarrubias was arrested earlier this month when deputieser is survived a search warrant -- deputies served a warrant at the camp. he worked at the camp's two locations in unincorporated sear -- saratoga. he was known as papa bear by

there. as far as the eye can see. a few breaks. a few holes in there. it's not as cold by the coast as it was a couple of days ago. a lot of drizzle. that lets up. but i think it will be back tonight. a lot of 60s or very low 70s. usual slow traffic, sal? bedo have a lot of slow traffic approaching the airport which is kind of concerning, we also have a look at the peninsula. let's start off with a look at the san mateo bridge and start with westbound 92. we do see slow traffic across the span and waiting for you in san mateo. when you get there. as a matter of fact, the whole thing, if you are trying to catch a flight at sfo, you are coming from the east bay, i would allow an extra half-hour to 45 minutes from what you thought it would take you. i will slow you why. when you get over to 101. there was an earlier accident in millbrae. got it out of the way. the traffic is really slow getting up to the airport. if you are driving up on -- up the peninsula northbound, i would use 280 instead of 101.

also checking the south bay, 101, 280 and 85 those are more normal slowdowns. up see them every day. i want to mention the been has not been great. it's backed up at the toll plaza. 20, 25-minute long delay. we've been checking with b.a.r.t. we haven't had any major delays. yesterday, we had a bad day in the middle of the day yesterday. it seems to be stabilized. 8:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. an early-morning police pursuit involving a stolen dump truck ended with a busy daly city intersection being shut down. the truck hit a minivan, making a turn at san jose avenue that injured four people. tara moriarty is live at the scene to tell us why the cleanup is taking so long. is it close to opening, tara? >> it just opened, actually. it took them quite a while. more than seven hours to clear the scene and mop up the mess. diesel fuel spilled. they were able to take away the stolen dump truck. that was hauled away at 40

minutes ago. also, the minivan that was mangled. one car that's still here is the red minivan on the side of the road. the minivan had actually smashed into that. but that one has not been moved yet. the big concern was the diesel fuel. it left a rainbow sheen over this street. shortly after midnight. the driver of a dump truck hit and the impact of the crash was so great that the van slid 100 feet crashing into a parked car. all three people in the minivan, an adult female driver and adult passengers were rushed to sf general. the chase began shortly after midnight near the costco in colma. >> the incident started in the residential area of colma and an officer observed the vehicle coming in to the residential area and found it suspicious being it was late at night, ran

the license plate and discovered the vehicle was stolen. the officer attempted to stop the vehicle at which point allegedly the vehicle attempted to ram the patrol vehicle and a pursuit ensued. >> reporter: 75 gallons of diesel fuel spilled. the suspect could face charges of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, evading an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle. you can see they've placed bags here to try to trap any of that diesel fuel from going down into the storm drains. they said that they were able to control it pretty well. you can see the sheen all over the crosswalk and street. that's all diesel fuel. it's quite slippery but hopefully now that the rain has come out. that will sort of help the situation. just so you snow, the intersection now open. just in time for the tail end of the morning commute. live from daly city, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> good to here it finally

reopened. thank you. crews cleaning up the massive oil spill along the santa barbara county coast are now working around the clock to try to limit the environmental damage. up to 105,000 gallons of crude oil leaked tuesday from a ruptured underground pipeline with more than 20,000 gallons ending up in the ocean. governor brown has declared a state of emergency to free up funding for the cleanup. the houston-based company claims all american pipeline is taking responsibility for the spill. the company pledged in 2010 to improve its leak detection technology when the federal government cited it for ten separate oil spills in the midwest. >> we deeply regret this incident has occurred at all. we pay poll jiz for the damage -- apologize for the damage it's done to the wildlife and to the environment. >> reporter: there are more than 300 environmental cleanup contractors and first responders on the scene with even more cleanup experts

arriving today. two popular state beaches in the area are now shut down through the holiday weekend. at 8:30, we'll go live to santa barbara county to check in on the progress of the cleanup. san francisco police want your help this morning. they are trying to find the person who viciously attack and elderly woman on mother's day in chinatown. the victim, a 777-year-old grandmother in a co -- 7-year- old grandmother is in a coma. she was getting off a bus ten days ago when another woman attacked her. she was not robbed. just beaten for some reason. a good samaritan helped get to the curb and she was able to make it home. but three days after the attack, she lost consciousness. >> the key is that we really need to speak to that good samaritan that helped her off the bus to sit down and recover because he might have witnessed the entire incident or if there's any other witnesses that were present on the bus that can help narrow down the field of search. >> this is a very severe

assault. very severe damage and injuries. and she doesn't deserve that. and not only that, she suffer. >> now, making the investigation even tougher, the police don't know which bus the attack occurred on. muni is now checking surveillance footage on four separate bus lines hoping to identify that attacker. today, san jose police officer michael johnson will be remembered with the special ceremony. officer johnson was shot to death while on duty in march. he had been a san jose police officer for 14 years. at noon today, a tree will be planted at region am medical center of san jose and dedicated to his memory. the ceremony is part of the hospital's weak-long show of graltty dude to all first responders including police, firefighter paramedics and military personnel. a new app created in the brart is letting people weigh in on legislation and some hot- button issues with the simple

span, it seems to have improved as you drive -- just as i said that, we have slow traffic. the last time i saw it on the tease, it was moving well. and now it's not. it is actually worse than i've seen it in a long time. if you are driving over to the peninsula, you are going to see that. now, here is something that i want to mention. there is just a world of hurt waiting for you on the peninsula. look at all of this slow traffic on 101. this is partially due to an earlier crash. it's backing up out of belmont all the way up to the peninsula. if you can use 280, you will save yourself a lot of time getting up to the northern peninsula. don't use northbound 101. as we move to san jose, there is improving a little bit. there is an accident on northbound 680 in the center divide. the south bay commute is moderate the we have a look at the -- moderate. we will have a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, backed up for 20, 30 minutes getting into san francisco. the drizzle steve has mentioned, i think it's slowed

down the commute. back to the desk. new this morning, teenagers suspected of assaulting two overnight arrested. authorities say the teens were punching people as they were simply walking down the street. neighbors helped track down the suspects. >> reporter: this is unsettling for people who live in this north san jose neighborhood. this is near morill avenue and croply. it's not a high crime area. two pedestrians were minding their own business when they were attacked. two adults and two juveniles were taken between the ages of 15 and 19 years old. officers captured one of them trying to escape. k-9s found the other three hiding in the backyard of one of the homes. the dogs bit two suspects who refused to bic taen into custody. police say the suspects are responsible for punching the woman in the stomach last night in the area of piedmont and sierra as she was walking.

morning. investigation into him showing pornographic images on a screen. about a dozen students were working on a classroom project last week during a lunch break. the teacher was using his personal laptop computer. it was connected to a projection screen in the room. a police report says at some point pornographic images popped up on the screen. the teacher turned it off quickly. police say they found no evidence of a crime but they may revisit this depending upon what the school investigation finds. a former children's science camp counselor already accused of possessing child pornography and molesting a 10-year-old boy now faces new allegations of actually making and distributing child pornography. 27-year-old edgar covarrubias was in court yesterday where these new charges were revealed. covarrubias was arrested earlier this month. deputies soreved a search warrant -- served a search warrant warrant at the camp. he worked at the camp's two

locations since 2013. he was known by the students at papa bear. investigators say so far, none of the images appear to be of children who were at the camps but the -- the investigation is still going on. he has not entered a plea. well, identity thieves, more and more, they are using atms to steal your financial information. the experts at the credit scoring company fico say debit card information theft is at the highest race in 20 years. almost double the numbers from the same time last year. in the majority of cases, thieves put on a skimming device in the card reader stealing your card information. >> the data has been downloaded and they are can make purchase -- they can make purchases or slurp up your money with the account. >> they say criminals can even print new cards with the stolen

find the nine-mile location. there are boats with boom. we saw booms go in the water. we have video that we took here about 45 minutes ago. turned around for you guys. you can he soot boom -- you can see the boom being deployed. there are a number being used. at least 20,000 gallons we've been told went into the water over a two-hour period about a day and a half ago. and we've also been told at about -- maybe as much pass 105,000 gallons -- sorery, yeah, 105,000 gallons was spilled all told. the numbers are fluctuating. you can see the hand crews which are coming out in the morning. they've been focusing on the sand. they started this about 424 hours ago on the sand. they will rake and scoop up like you would picking up after your pet and put it in a plastic bag and set them aside. once the sand has been cleaned as much as they can, they will move onto the rocks.

they've been peppered with oil. it's like standing at a gas station someone has smiled gas. that's what it -- spilled the gas. that's what it smells like. el capitan beach and refugio beaches closed. fishing has been halted within a mile of the beaches and out to the water. we'll seen dolphins. we've seen some other sea life. we've seen pelicans doused with oil. but there's been no official numbers about how many birds, fish or sea life have been affected by the oil spill so far. >> glad to hear the dolphins -- i've seen a couple down there. i know we're coming up on memorial day. i would imagine that normally the beach would have been a very busy place. how is this impacting the whole community? >> obviously the environmental impact will be significant for some time. although they say they can clean this up and get it up.
