we begin with developing news involving former san francisco 49er ray mcdonald. he has been arrested again. this time on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment. good afternoon. i am tori campbell. it's the latest in a series of problems for ray mcdonald. this arrest reportedly happened at the home of another former 49er. ktvu fox 2's ann reuben live with details. good afternoon. >> reporter: now, ray mcdonald is still here at the police department being processed. authorities say he will likely

be booked into the santa clara county jail sometime later today. now, this all started about 3:45 this morning. santa clara police officers say they were called to a disturbance at mcdonald's residence. they say mcdonald had physically assaulted a woman there while she was holding an inpant. they say he had already fled the scene by the time they arrived and he was later picked up on tara november nova l.a. va in san jose. >> 3:48 this morning our dispatch received a call of a disturbance at the residents of ray mcdonald in santa clara. officers responded to the residents and learned that ray mcdonald was the suspect in an assault case. additionally, he was also a suspect in a child endangerment case. subsequent to that officers tried to locate mr. mcdonald, but he wasn't there. he had fled after the incident. so we were able to locate him

in san jose in the 2200 block of tara nova lane. he was arrested and transported back to santa clara police department for protecting sing. >> reporter: this is not mcdonald's first brush with the law. he was arrested for domestic violence in august. the charges were ultimately not filed. he was involved in another incident in december where a woman alleged sexual assault. that case is still under investigation. also in dees. 49ers diseased to re-- diseased to release him citing a pattern of poor decision make. he has been picked up by the chicago bears. no word on their response to the latest allegations. we expect that mcdonald will be booked into the santa clara county jail sometime later today. back to you. >> ana reuben live in santa clara. thank you. today thousands of people throughout the bay area are paying tribute to fallen heroes. brian flores is live where one

of the biggest memorial day ceremonies ended with a bang. >> reporter: good afternoon. just moments from now we are expecting to see and hear a 21-gun salute. take a look around. hundreds people in san francisco's presidio. we have been here since early this morning. some say it's been a somber and humbling experience for many who paid their respects to keep our country free. the sounds and sights of a somber and humble tradition at san francisco's presidio. paying respects to the fallen. >> i know people who have lost their lives. i get choked up, too. yeah, it's a deep, deep feeling. but they are in a better place. >> reporter: the tears in their eyes are real. veterans, young and old. military or not. they came to presidio to remember those who gave their lives that defense for our country. one woman comes to this hallowed ground every year and drops off flowers at the gravesites of

heroes she doesn't even know. >> i go up the hill and randomly leave flowers on the grave and i touch the headstone and say you are remembered today. i do that each year. it's a privilege. >> reporter: with hundreds here for the ceremony before it started a quiet moment of reflection for some. one a son can give to a mom whose dad died more than 40 years ago. >> my dad gave me a lot. my mom gave me more. i am the only one to comes to visit her. she is still with me all the time. and i that's all i can say. >> reporter: this memorial day marks 50 years since the vietnam war and 70 years since the end of world war ii. many say entering hallowed ground and saying you are remembered is what this day is all about. >> it means a lot to keep this country free. freedom is a hard thing to keep. once you have it, you don't want to lose it.

america. >> reporter: and as we take it back out here live again, at san francisco's presidio, hundreds of people paying their respects on this memorial day. this ceremony expected to last until about 1:00 this afternoon. ktvu fox 2's rob roth also here in san francisco. he will have a complete wrap tonight on the ktvu news at 5 and 6. tori, back to you. >> thank you, brian. memorial day is the busiest day of the year for one bay area non-profit that reaches out to homeless and needy veterans. on a typical day, volunteers at st. anthony's dining hall serve 2,500 meals. today the organization says it expects to serve more than 4,000 meals. one in five of those meals will go to a veteran. today the dining room is serving a picnic style lunch of hot dogs and beans to reflect the flavors of a memorial day celebration. a search underway in oakland after a police stand-off ended without the arrest of a homicide suspect. as ktvu fox 2's allie rasmus explains, investigators say

what they found inside the home may have been the motive for the deadly shooting. >> reporter: oakland police say they found a marijuana grow inside this home on 100th avenue in dante. police wouldn't tell us how many plants were inside, but investigators believe a dispute over the marijuana they describe as, quote, contraband, may have been the motive for a deadly shooting that happened a block away. yesterday evening before 82 men were shot near 99th and dante. one man died. nor was hospitalized. within minutes witnesses and neighbors led police to this house near the shooting scene. >> there was a lot of help from the residents. people here really cared. they notified us. they completely cooperated with us. >> reporter: investigators believe the homicide suspect was holed up inside. a s.w.a.t team was called in. about nine hours later they entered the home and found the suspect wasn't there. >> nobody in the house. it wasn't totally empty. there was contraband we found. it was marijuana grows. that may be the motive of why this entire incident occurred. >> reporter: the second shooting victim is in the hospital in

stable condition. investigators have been able to talk to him. but the information he is provided has not been very helpful, according to the lieutenant. the search for the suspect continues. in oakland, alley rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. we are learning more about the oakland man accused of killing his own father and two other men in a triple shooting over the weekend. 31-year-old damien robinson surrendered saturday night after a two-hour stand-off. once he was arrested police discovered the bodies inside. neighbors tell "the chronicle" that robinson does not live at that home. police have not released a motive in the shooting. there is a health warning at a popular east bay swimming spot this memorial day. swimming is off limits at quarry lakes regional recreational area in fremont due to a dangerous blue algae bloom. it can cause skin rashes and other allergic reactions. it's also harmful to dogs. visitors can still enjoy the

park and go fishing, but wash whatever you catch very careful. the park district does not expect to lift the swimming ban until wednesday. another whale has washed ashore on a bay area beach. it's the eighth to wash up on a northern california shoreline in the last five weeks. a young 28-foot grey whale washed up on portuguese beach on saturday. officials say the fact that we are seeing so many whale mortalities is setting off some alarms. last week an adult female grey whale 40 feet long was found decaying and rolling in the surf of half moon bay. two others washed ashore in a pacifica. this is the end of the grey whale migration in which the stragglers are making their way back to arctic waters and their health can be diminished by hunger. >> they have not fed appreciably since they left arctic waters

last fall. so they are working on an empty tank of gas when they are underweight and malnourished. that can open up a suite of altrition related diseases. >> warming waters are a big concern because ocean nutrients thrive in colder temperatures. that's something scientists are looking at. many pulled away from the whale data to go to the oil spill in santa barbara. a couple missing for more than two weeks has been found in a remote wilderness area of san diego county. 79-year-old cecil knudsen and 68-year-old diana bed well were discovered on the indian reservation. knudsen did not survive. his body was found near a white car. bedwell was inside the vehicle. she is dehydrated and in serious condition. authorities say the couple got lost leaving the valley view casino on may 10. they were trying to take a shortcut to their son's house in palm springs.

the san mateo bridge reopened ahead of schedule this morning after being closed all weekend for resurfacing work. traffic was flowing in both directions just before 5:00 this morning. crews removed the original asphalt surface, which was the getting warn out. the new surface is made of poll jester concrete. drivers will notice temporary pavement markers on the bridge. permanent striping will be added at a later date. still to come, a somber tone as the nation honors fallen veterans. how president obama honored the nation's heroes today. and grey, overcast skies around parts of the of the the bay area. sunshine is on the way. we will have the forecast. plus, more people missing after a deadly storm moves across the southern plains.

president obama marked memorial day at arlington national cemetery with a traditional wreath-laying ceremony this morning. in his remarks the president said today is especially meaningful. it's the first memorial day since the war in afghanistan has come to an end. >> this may be the first memorial day since the end of our war in afghanistan, but we

are acutely aware, as we speak, our men and women in uniform still stand watch and still serve and still sacrifice around the world. >> in cabo, u.s. troops paid tribute to those who lost their lives in combat in afghanistan. more than 2300 service men and women have been killed over the 14 year duration of the war. former israeli prime minister has been ordered to serve eight months in prison. a court in jerusalem handed down the sentence after he was found guilty of illegally accepting money from a u.s. supporter. the court's decision caps the dramatic downfall of a man who had hoped to work out a historic peace agreement with the palestinians a few years ago. the sentence comes in addition to a six-year prison sentence he received last year for a separate bribery conviction. a strong earthquake rattled japan today causing temporary disruptions in its capitol city. the magnitude 5.3 quake was centered in the suburbs of

tokyo. it shook buildings and briefly shut down rail lines. officials also closed down runways at one airport for inspections. no serious damage and no major injuries were reported, but officials are warning people to be prepared for aftershocks. at least a dozen people missing after a severe weather moved through the southern plains. storm system produced tornados and record flooding in parts of oklahoma and texas. as fox news correspondent kelly wright reports, three people have been killed and hundreds more have been left without a place to live. >> reporter: at least three deaths are being blamed on powerful storms that barreled through the southern plains over the weekend. the severe weather leading to flash floods and tornados forcing at least 2,000 people from their homes. >> the water was gushing into the house. so i lost everything in the house. >> reporter: in houston, a twister rips through an apartment complex, severely damaging dozens of units sunday morning. >> i was so scared because i heard the boom, like a real

ugly sound. i saw people were screaming, kids crying. >> reporter: in central texas, flooding the biggest danger with crews rescuing a number of people from the fast rising waters as the blanco river climbs to historic levels. >> it looks like a hurricane came through here. everything is torn to pieces. >> reporter: those who live along the river were caught off guard, saying they have never seen the water rise so high so fast. >> i was on my computer and all of a sudden i felt my feet wet. and i looked at the front door and it was pouring in the front door. >> reporter: dallas also facing severe flood interesting the trinity river, which is expected to peak above flood levels later today. >> we have closed the storm doors, put sandbags back up, and that only protects you so much. >> reporter: and in oklahoma one city is mourning the loss of firefighter jason farley who died while trying to rescue people from floodwaters. >> the firefighters were hugging

place of thousands of veterans at the national cemeteries at the presidio and in san bruno. crude oil prices dropped slightly today as the summer driving season gets underway. the u.s. markets are closed for memorial day. in overseas trading the price of crude remained below $60 a barrel. analysts say supplies are strong which should keep a lid on prices. u.s. gasoline prices remain at a five-year low. a business that started in oakland is taking its local flavor across the pacific. blue bottle coffee has opened a shop in japan. it's the first store outside the u.s. so far it's a big success. long lines have led to wait times of about four hours in japan. blue bottle operates 17 cafes here in the san francisco bay area, plus new york and los angeles. the company raised nearly $26 million last year to expand outside the country. golden state warriors in a position they have not been in for four decades.

they are just one win away from becoming western conference champions and going to the nba finals. we take a look at how they are preparing for tonight's big game. >> caroms out to curry. and it puts it? >> reporter: there was no bass king in the game three blow-out that gave them a commanding 3-0 series lead over the rockets. on an off day they were back at it working out at rice university. there was, though, a sense that to close houston out in a four-game sweep, the warriors need to continue the things they did so well on saturday night. >> we defended and we took care of the ball. those are the two most important things for us on a nightly basis. >> defense is the focus for us as a team. we have very, very talented offensive guys. steph, klay. everybody, you know. so the key is to be the anchors of the defense. >> reporter: nba most valuable player steph curry continues to amaze even the people who see him every day.
