today. also mentioned, sfo reporting some delays because of the low clouds and the fog this morning, about an hour or so for some of those arriving flights. that to be aware of. mid-60s, oakland, hayward. 68 in fremont. low to mid-70s. 75 in in antioch. temperatures will begin to rebound as early as tomorrow and 80s are back in the forecast. we'll have a look at that extended forecast in a little bit. good morning, sal. >> good morning. we have a lot of slow traffic out there rosemary. we'll start off with a look at the approaches to the bay bridge, the macarthur maze. you can see traffic on 80 is backing up into berkeley. have a lot of slow traffic on 580 as well. it will take you a lot longer than normal to get to the bay bridge when up get to the toll plaza, we have a look here at traffic that's beginning to get a little better getting past the metering lights. a crash on the upper deck of the bay bridge for ta while. it wasn't that seer -- for a while. it wasn't that serious. but it was there. a warning, if you are trying to

get into san francisco with your car using the bay bridge, the traffic will be very slow. to the east bay, 680 is still very slow out of concord. down to danville, had an earlier accident there. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. we're following a developing story out of baypoint where firefighters responded to a grass fire about an hour ago. ktvu fox 2 reporter brian flores is live in baypoint to let us know how firefighters think it may have started. >> this fire that started before 6:00 this morning came very close to a mobile home park -- mobile home, i should

see. this was a vegetation fire that came close to a home of a family of four living here. now, we go to the video, fire officials say a nearby homelesser can'tment may be to blame for the fire getting started. once they arrived, there were huge flames. this is the emerald cove mobile home park here in baypoint. but crews responded within three minute were able to knock it down in 20 minutes. but blear some challenges for -- but there were some challenges for fire crews. >> steep terrain, obviously in a drainage culvert, tremendous amount of bedding, clothes, thick, heavy vegetation. >> reporter: the other issue at least according to contra costa county fire, fires getting started have become an issue.

the homeless people living near the mobile home fled the scene. as we take it back out here live, fire crews with contra costa fire doing a great job, they are mopping up in terms of preventing the fire from reaching the home. there were no other structures damaged as a result of the fire. that started before 6:00 this morning. we'll give you updates throughout "mornings on 2." pack to you. thank you, brian. we are also following developing news this morning out of texas. severe storms are still causing multiple problems. here's new video from houston of the street flooding that stranded several drivers overnight. evacuations are underway outside of austin, texas and a search is resuming for 12 people missing north of san antonio after a home was washed off the foundation. that heavy rain forced some houston rockets' fans to hunker down at the stadium after the

game. alex savidge is here in the studio to let us know how long some fans stayed there. >> it turned into an overnighter for some fans. many people, they got out after the game, they left the arena. but a few hundred people stayed put. they didn't want to chance it and stayed inside the toyota center in -- center in downtown houston. they finally headed home at 5:00 a.m. local time. they were given coffee and some pastries early this morning. a little breakfast for them. a message was put on up on the big screen warning fans to shelter in place because of dangerous flash flooding all across the city of houston. most fans and players left the arena but the small group they stayed because they didn't want to take any chances.

rockets' center sent center watt howard -- center dwight howard checked on the fans. >> hanging out here. i promised my brother-in-law, i would not take chances with his wife. i'm going to take care of my sister and we'll stay here until it's all clear. a little sleepy. it was was an exciting fans. >> fans want to savor the victory as long as possible. thousands were left without power. drivewayers -- driveways got flooded. one person was killed in the overnight floods. a number of school districts have canceled classes for today. as for the warriors, they are scheduled to fly out later on

today and head back home to the bay area for game 5 of their series with the rockets which will be at oracle tomorrow night and dave and tori, as we send it back to you, we're hoping the weather doesn't impact the warriors with their travel plans getting back here. >> yeah, certainly wish everyone there well. >> the warriors will be trying to advance to the nba finals tomorrow. they had the chance to sweep the rockets but the rockets, boy, they they shot out of the gate, taking a 19-3 lead within first first minutes. the scary moment came when steph curry landed hard. he remained face down while trainers attended to him. >> it's a bad feeling. you think he's going for a lay-

up and once you see the situation changes, got no control over yourself, it could have been a lot worse. >> after undergoing test, curry urned. they did make a comeback but it wasn't enough. the rockets won. hundred of people watched the game at the alameda theater. they were hoping for a warrior sweep but things went silent when curry went down. fans are looking forward to game 5. >> we got it next time. >> could have done a lot better. they went out fighting. firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire in the almaden valley

neighborhood. flames were shooting through the roof of this house. it also damaged and rv parked next door. a mother and her son escaped unharmed from that burning house. neighbors heard at least one very loud explosion and then they saw the flames. >> i was sitting watching tv and felt this huge explosion and my house rattled. >> it was just a huge explosion, the whole house rattled. i was looking around. when i looked out front, i saw huge black smoke billowing down the street. >> pg&e was called to turn off the gas at that house an the house house-- and the house next door. also new this morning, firefighters in vallejo investigating a suspicious fire. it started at a home on martin street about 3:00 this morning. now, firefighters say when they got there, that house was fully

engulfed in flames. the home had been sitting vacant for 25 years but recently was purchased by new owners. it was under construction when it caught fire. the firefighters are looking into other possible causes. >> we had numerous issues in the recent past with transients in the house and being evicted. >> there were reports that another home next door had minor damage. no one was hurt. 7:11. a life-sized bronze statue of jesus stolen right off a cross outside an east bay church. >> naturally, we were a bit upset and a bit shocked. >> in 20 minutes, the message the priest has for whoever took the sculpture. next, high school seniors banned from their ceremonies is and they are facing criminal charges. it all has to do with that swarm of lady bugs.

they are under pressure by places like chipotle. protesters in oakland really don't like the city's new approach to controlling night-time demonstrations. [chanting] >> oakland's mayor said keeping people on sidewalks prevents vandalism and violence. she said it's not a new policy. it's just enforcing the currently policy. >> people are gonna cause damage to businesses, that's not gonna happen in the middle of the street. forcing people on the sidewalk could only exasperate that problem. >> we spent a lot of time analyzing our policy and the law and we're confident this approach is within our policy and the law. >> the mayor is trying to prevent a repeat of the may 1st vandalism where vandals caused

tens of thousands of dollars of damage. well, several high school seniors in maryland, they will not be allowed to be in their graduation ceremony because of what they call a harmless prank. six students and one former student broke into the high school and released 72,000 lady bugs. other students are pretty upset their friends won't be able to walk on stage and pick up their diploma. >> for a little thing line that -- >> ruined everything. >> i don't think they should go straight out of high school with these criminal records that -- it will make them not be able to get a job, get into college. >> police say the lady bugs are not the issue but breaking into the school set off burglar alarms and the police had to respond. all of the students involved are facing burglary charges.

7:16. sal was off yesterday. you and i were doing traffic. it was clear as a bell. i know you are on the move. sit here in my regular spot. there was no traffic yesterday but today you are using the t word, terrible. >> it's -- he would say terrible. i say terrible. all means the same thing. let's go to the macarthur maze. traffic is taking more than an hour at 65 minutes coming around the curve. the problem was a crash on the upper deck of the bay bridge. they have a lot of slow traffic trying to clear out. the metering lights have been slowed down. that usually happens when there is a crash. that crash has been gone for a while. that slow traffic is going to stick with you for a bit. let's go to the toll plaza itself. you can see traffic is very slow. some of the cash can lanes but the left of the rains will be

slow. in case you are thinking of the san mateo bridge as an alternate, you are going to have to wait through slow traffic to get there. the south bay commute is not bad. september for one thing. that -- except for one thing. traffic is backed up out of scotts valley. coming out and over the hill. it's terrible coming through there. if you are a santa cruz mountains driver, all of that slow traffic is waiting for you as you make your way over the hill. let's go to rosemary. it's a cloudy, damp start to the day. one of our colleagues came in on his motorcycle, he said it's wet out there. we have the drizzle along the coastline. here's a snapshot where we continue do see the low clouds hugging the west coast. we have a weak ridge of high pressure over the pacific. we continue to have the systems

and there's one that's on the east edge of washington and that's continuing our thick marine layer, and our temperatures below the seasonal average. so far today, another day of patchy drizzing through the morning hours -- drizzle through the morning -- the morning hours. really been tough to clear over the last few days. upper 50s at the coast. widespread 60s around the bay and 70s expected inland with mostly sunny skies. as we get into tomorrow, we do begin a warming trend. by thursday into friday, our inland community will be in the 80s. 51 degrees in napa. 52 for san francisco. mid- to upper 50s in and around concord, walnut creek. temperatures have not changed with all of that cloud cover in place. sfo, 55. if you are expecting somebody to arrive there this morning, they are reporting delays because of the clouds, about an

federal aviation officials responded to a series of threats against several airlines. at one point, even launching fighters jets. doug luzader is at the reagan national airport outside of washington, d.c. and joins us now. >> reporter: good morning. this seemed to be to be a combination -- to be a combination of threats. all international threats, all with east coast destinations. airlines around the country will be moving again today but a series of terror threats had federal officials taking no chances. a number of anonymous phone calls claimed a number of aircraft bound for u.s. airports contained bombs. the threats covered at least a half a dozen airports including ones bound for newark, j.f.k.

and logan airport. >> we didn't know nothing until we get over here. >> we just have to follow the security procedures and we didn't know about the chemical weapon os anything. >> reporter: one air france flight bound for new york was escorted by fighter jets before landing and being search. in each case, no devices were found. in at least one instance involving dogs. federal officials heard nothing that made the threats seem credible but took action. for many passengers, this was just part of the new reality of modern air travel. >> you have to live your lives. i can't live in fear. i trust in god and here i am on my way back home. >> i was on a plane on 9/11 in california taking off to go to chicago. we've been living this for a long time. >> >> this is always a tough call

up. it's getting better. we had an earlier crash in scotts valley. this is getting better now as you drive into the south bay. i want to show you the traffic. 85, 280 and 101 are going to be very slow. and if you are driving this morning on 680 walnut creek that is also slow from an earlier accident near el pintata road. a lot of these earlier accidents are gone but i'm afraid the damage is done. 7:33. let's go back to the bay bridge toll plaza. that's backed up for 30, 40- minute delay here alone. they are looking at a big delay getting into san francisco if you are taking the car. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. 7:33. alameda county sheriff deputies are trying to figure out who stole a bronze statue of jesus christ from a church. tara moriarty joins us live from castro valley where many people are asking why would

anyone steal a religious relic. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. according to various websites, a pound of bronze will catch you about 1.65. this statue weighs about 100 pounds. that's would be about $165. they took a lot of trouble, too. this is the cross where they actually ripped the statue of jesus right off. now, church officials say this life-sized figure of jesus disappeared sometime between 9:00 tuesday night and 7:00 wednesday morning. it's believed that the thieves may be trying to hawk the statue for scrap metal. church officials say parishioners first noticedded the figure was missing. >> we see people coming and praying on it or meditating in front of it. it's sad to hear that. we thought it was a safe place and safe church. nice people around.

but sometimes it's -- it's sad to hear that's kind of stories. >> reporter: the church's minister said the statue was a work of art and had been near for nine years. he said parishioners are distressed it's gone. he said the church is more interesting in recovering the statue than prosecuting the person or people who stole it. life from castro valley, back to you. >> thank you, tara. 7:35. human remains found in fremont have been linked to the disappearance more than 30 years ago of an exchange student. authorities say dental records determined the bones found in 2010, they are those of 21-year- old elizabeth martinson. she was a swedish exchange student working as a nanny when she disappeared in 199. a convicted rapist found driving her car was convicted of auto theft but was never tied to her disappearance.

ray mcdonald has been cut by the bears after being arrested here in the bay area for domestic violence. >> no comment. >> ray mcdonald didn't have much to say about these new accusations when he was released on bail yesterday. police were called to a domestic disturbance at 3:45 yesterday morning. this incident involved the mother of his 2-month-old child and there was no physical contact but the latest incident comes after his pregnant fiancee accused him of hitting her in san jose last august. no charges were filed in that incident. >> i think the bears are looking at ray mcdonald the same way the 49ers did, even if he's not guilty of the charges, his judgment has to be questioned and do they want that type of distraction moving forward. >> the bears say he was fired after not meeting team standards. they said we believe in seconds

chances but when we signed ray, we were very clear about what our expectations were if he was to remain a bear. a new jersey man has died after catching a rare disease ineck with. it was with -- rare disease in west africa. it was ebola. he arrived at j.f.k. a little more than a week ago. this fever is caused by a different virus. it's less infixous and -- infectious. they are looking for anyone who had contact with him and anyone who sat near him on the recent flight in morocco. lee's sandwiches has more than a dozen outlets in the bay area, including this one in san jose.

its parent company, southern california's lqnn, is recalling more than a 100 tons of beef, pork and chicken products. the usda calls the health risk high because the meat was repackged a without inspection. no imnesses have been reported. cleaning up in mexico this morning after a devastating tornado caused major damage right across the border from texas. more than a dozen people were killed. hundreds of homes were destroyed. the hardest hit area, hoping to find people still alive. many people living on the peninsula are fed up with increasing noise across the skies. janine de la vega says complaints are coming in over recent changes to flight paths to san francisco international airport. good morning, janine. >> reporter: there are several neighborhoods throughout palo alto where residents say planes

are flying lower and more frequently and they've had enough and they are hoping that local and federal officials will work to change this. the faa recently upgraded its air traffic control system to increase air travel and help keep flights on same. residents have experienced a dramatic increase in flights over their neighborhood. they also say aircraft is flying lower which is contributing to the noise. three major routes into sfo go over the midtown area as well as crescent park and old palo alto. the residents have formed a group called sky posse and have gained signatures. they have filed complaints with sfo and hope the concerns are reviewed and taken seriously. anna eshoo is part of the quiet skies caucus currently committed to reducing air traffic noise and sfo is currently reviewing the

the children of the woman who was found alive after being stranded for two weeks in the wilderness near san diego said their mother is facing a long recovery. 68-year-old diana bedwell and her husband were found sunday 65 miles northeast of san diego. bedwell was found alive but suffering from severe dehydration. knudson did not survive. the couple's children said their parents left a casino and got stranded. >> they left there. they hit three jackpots. it was my dad's stoup stishen, if they would leave their the same day, they would have luck.

>> the couple put containers outside their disabled car to try to collect any rain water. they also had a pie and some oranges to eat. >> the cleanup from the oil spill continues on the santa barbara coast. it's been one week since a pipeline spilled more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil. two state beaches will remain closed through at least june 4th. at the open beaches, demonstrators protested against fracking and the general use of fossil fuels. the coordinator of seaworld earl rescue effort said it's tough to see animals covered with oil. >> we'll be out there and we'll be talking about it and start to tear up when we're having the conversation with each other. >> seaworld crews have saved two elephant seals and three sea lions. a fourth did not make it because it was completely covered in oil and starving. the coast guard says the spill

also killed nine pelicans and countless fish. california's looking to australia for lessons on surviving our ongoing drought from the late 1990s through 2012, australia suffered its own drought known as the big dry. as a result, the country was forced to make fundamental changes as to how it conserves water. it developed better systems how it measures water and managed to cut water use to 55 gaens per person. that's about half the amount each californian uses each day. but australia's example may be tough to follow. people down under are used to living in dry land and they are more prone to making sacrifices for the common good. a little boy in the second grade in truckee is apologizing and trying to make things right after he was caught throwing rocks at cars from his playground. >> we threw the -- through the

earlier problems. the word of the day is please give yourself extra time on every commute. if you want to avoid the bay bridge, the bridge is not a bad alternate. let's go to rosemary. we do have gray skies outside. we have a little bit of patchy drizzle out there. coming into oakland, we had the windshield wipers going in the studio. from what i understand, it's still quite wet out there. giving you a live look over the east bay hills, where the low clouds have moved well inland. in fact, just recently, i showed you a photo of low clouds that had moved into the sacramento valley. so the onshore breeze, quite strong and the marine layer, 3,000 feet. here is a comparison for you on the temperatures where we should be. santa rosa going to 71 for the afternoon. your average 76. 5 degrees shy of the seasonal average for you. oakland by a few degrees. here in oakland and san leandro and areas along the east bayshore line, it's been mostly cloudy over the last few days not a lot of sunshine going on.

plenty of time. b.a.r.t. hasn't had any significant troubles. i would say that that would be a great way to get into the city. taking a look at the toll plaza here, you can see traffic is crunching along. it's not moving very quickly. but at least there's no more on obstruction on the upper deck of the bay bridge. 880 southbound is not that slow, you will see traffic from 238 but getting on the san mateo bridge is not that bad. especially if you live in this part of the area. dumbarton bridge is slow and 880 seslow. 680 is slow out of dublin. it's 8:02. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal smoo we're following developing news in the east bay. contra costa county firefighters continue to mop up a grass fire that came very close to a family's mobile home in baypoint this morning. brian flores is live in baypoint with the possibility cause of this fire.

good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we're live here in the 900 block of dove ridge circle. this the emerald cove mobile home park. because of the heavy brush behind the mobile home, crews are remaining here to prevent hot spots. it came within a few feet of this family's home. fire officials say it started at 5:50 this morning. they also say it is likely home let's living in a nearbier can'tment may be the cause of the fire. now, fire officials say once they arrived, there were huge flames but crews responded within three minutes. they were able to get it under control in about 20 minutes. but there were some challenges for fire crews battling the fire. the chief said not only was there steep terrain but crews

have responded to similar fires in the area in the past few months. >> it's an issue for us. unfortunately we don't have any way to track them. typically what happens is the fire occurs daily and then come back later and they pick up and will move somewhere else. it's a problem. >> this isn't the only fire that's been here. it's bad around here. >> reporter: crews will remain at the scene for a while longer taking care of hot spots. we've seen period of coming through here from all. brush even clothe -- all of the brush and even clothes. officials say the people living in ther -- of the encampment took off. you can see how close the home was to where the fire crews are. i talked to the chief who said they are gonna bring in heavy equipment and clear out the

brush. luckily, there were no injuries or structures, damage as a result of the fire. we're also following developing news in texas where we're getting new video of devastating flooding. this is what it looks like in houston this morning where you can see one man kayaking through the flood waters with his dog. at least six people have died rescue crews across texas have been busy looking for people stranded in homes and businesses. some houston rockets fans also had to hunker down in the stadium long past the final buzzer. alex savidge joins us now with that part of the story. pretty amazing part of this game. >> really a strange situation during -- or following last night's game between the warriors and rockets for some fans. it turned into an all-nighter for some fans. they rode out the powerful storm inside the toyota center. the last fans finally headed home from the arena at about 5:00 a.m.

local time. they were even served breakfast by the staff there at the arena. now, heavy rain moved into the houston area right near the end of game 4. many fans and players left right away but a few hundred people stayed put. they didn't want to take any chances trying to get home. there was a message on the big screen that warned fans to shelter in place because of dangerous flooding. at one point, rocket center dwight howard, he came back out from the locker room to chat with some fans riding out the storm and helped to keep them all entertained. joe fonzi was at the arena. he said it was a very unusual situation watching so many fans stay put. >> normally the game ends and security starts shooting people out of the building. instead of that they said you are welcomed to stay as long as you like and they began to show pictures on the neighborhood of

some of the flooding. houston got slammed by the system with as many as 10s in of rain coming down overnight. thousands of people were left without power. many freeways were flooded and drivers stranded. the houston office of emergency management confirms one person was killed in the overnight floods. there were quite a few school districts that have canceled classes for today. the warriors spent the night in houston at their hotel a few blocks away from the toyota center. they are scheduled to fly out later on today. it doesn't appear as though the severe weather in that area will impact their travel plans and coming up later on this morning, in five minutes, tori will sit down with sal and matt to talk about the same itself. a loss for the warriors.

they will talk more about that coming up. >> all right. looking forward to that conversation. san jose fire investigators and pg&e crews are still investigating the cause of a house fire and reports of an explosion last night. it happened on woodview place in the almaden valley neighborhood. the flames were shooting through the roof of this house. it damaged an rv parked next door. a mother and her son escaped unharmed from this burning house. neighbors say they heard at least one very loud explosion, then they saw the flames. >> i was sitting watching tv and felt this huge explosion and my house rattled and right away i knew something was wrong. >> it was just a huge explosion and then i was looking around for what it happened. there was the second one. when i looked out front, i saw huge, black smoke billowing down the street. >> pg&e was called to turn off the gas at that house and also the one next door. now they want to know if a gas leak caused the fire.

three firefighters were treated for injuries. an investigation is also underway for a suspicious fire in oakland. it was reported on douglas street after 11:00 last night. no one was hurt but three people were evacuated from the home. investigators would not say why they considered the fire suspicious. they would only say that they have responded to the home before. and firefighters in vallejo also investigating a suspicious fire. it started at a home on martin street shortly before 3:00 this morning. firefighters say when they arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. the home had been vacant for 25 years but recently was bought by new openers. the home was -- new owners. the home was under construction when it caught fire. nobody was hurt. some protesters in oakland don't like the city's new approach to controlling night- time demonstrations. of a church of jesus christ. it was taken right off the cross outside of the church in castro valley. parishioners noticed it was missing last wednesday morning and tara moriarty has been on the story since 4:00. you are in castro valley. what's the latest on what happened there? >> reporter: well, the thieves might want to reconsider, maybe give the statue back. after all, somebody higher up is watching, that's what parishioners see. take a look at the cross. you can see they tore the bronze statute right off the cross. church officials say the life- sized figure which weighed about 100 pounds disappeared sometime between 9:00 tuesday night and 7:00 wednesday morning from outside of the church of the transfiguration. that's off east cal dro boulevard. it's believed they are trying to make it for scrap metal.

clara. attorneys say the incident involved the mother of his 2- month-old child and there was no physical contact. but the latest incident comes after his pregnant fiancee accused him of hitting her in san jose last august. no charges were filed in that incident. >> i think the bears are looking at him the same way the 49ers did, that even if he is not guilty of these charges, his judgment has to be questioned and do they want that type of distraction moving forward. >> the bears say mcdonald was fired after he didn't meet team stan dampd. the bears released this statement, we believe in second chances. when we signed ray, we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a bear. people on the peninsula are frustrated by noisy jets taking off and landing at the airport.

new this morning, amtrak says it will install video cameras inside train cabs that record the actions of train engineers. the move comes after the deadly derailment of an amtrak train in philadelphia earlier in month. the engineer suffered a head injury and says he cannot remember what happened. the ntsb has been recommending train engines have video cameras that record sound in passenger and freight train cabs for five years. eight people died and 200 others were hurt in this month's crash. the cleanup from the oil spill continues on the santa barbara coast. it's been one week since a pipeline spilled more than 100,000 gal ferns of crude-- gallons of crude oil. the two beaches will remain closed until june 4th. drastess protested against fracking and the general use of fossil fuels.

traffic. a couple of significant items that have slowed things down. let's take a look at what we have now. we'll start off with a look at the commute on 280 in san jose. this has been one of the best -- better commutes. we had an accident northbound 85 near bascom. that's being cleared. but traffic will be recovering in the south bay. let's take a look at the commute in the east bay. southbound 880 is okay. in fact, it's been better than normal until you get to fremont. we have a new report of a crash westbound 24 at fish ranch road. chp is on the way to do. it looks likein' -- like an injury accident. the bay bridge toll plaza has been slow because of an earlier crash on the bridge. it has made 80 and 580 superslow. you need an extra 15 or 20 minutes to stay on schedule this morning if you are using the bay bridge with your car. 8:48 now. let's go to rosemary. good morning. a lot of gray out there this

morning. tough to find the sunshine unless you are far inland. the marine layer quite thick. we're looking at low clouds being blown into the sacramento valley. it's widespread around the bay. northeast, south. as we geet into the -- as we get into the afternoon, we'll remain mostly cloudy along the coast, the east bayshore line. the entire west coast of california socked in. we have a system right in here on the east end of washington. that will push east as early as tomorrow. so far today, the final day, temperatures well below the seasonal average. we'll start to rebound as early as tomorrow. patchy drizzle this morning. low clouds and for the afternoon, temperatures still unseasonably cool. by wednesday we begin to see a bump in the numbers. thursday, friday, even saturday. upper 50s in walnut creek right now. we have 55 in oakland. low 50s for novato. 53 for san francisco, 57 for
