a week since a broken pipeline spilled oil along it santa barbara coast and now some oil from the spill may be flowing on to beaches near los angeles. crews have been sent to pick up oil patties on beaches. the material is being checked to see if it is from the santa barbara spill. people are told to stay out of the water. >> the source has been undetermined. they are still testing what is washed up. we are asking the public not to go in the water. >> officials say it appeared to total a barrel or two of oil. three u.s. senators want answers after the oil spill in santa barbara. dianne feinstein and barbara boxer wrote a letter to the federal agency that over sees

july fireworks. cupertino is canceling saying it would need 100,000 gallons of water. ktvu's azenith smith is live. are other cities doing the same thing? >> reporter: so far we haven't heard of other cities canceling their shows. milpitas and the fireworks show in san jose going on as planned. but the drought is on everyone's minds as cities look for ways to conserve. >> reporter: independent day the football field where they launch their fireworks show will be empty. families will have to go elsewhere. organizers say the show consumes too much water. 100,000 gallons to spray the field. >> i thought i feel fortunate we are not on a site that requires that. we couldn't think of using that much water.

. cal fire was busy putting out a grass fire in livermore today. it started about 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. burned 200 acres before they had it out. it spread in windy terrain. the cause is under investigation. two san jose police officers cleared in the shooting death of a woman who came at them with a bat. they said the officers acted in self-defense when they opened bire on the 53-year-old last year -- fire on the 53-year-old last year. she wanted the police to shoot her. an autopsy revealed she suffered three gun shot wounds

the two men chargedane kidnapping last -- charged in a kidnapping last week could face life in prison. they are charged with several felony counts including kidnapping and robbery. police say the suspects have admitted to kidnapping and tying up a 59-year-old man. investigators say they put him in the trunk of a car and contacted the victim's family to demand $150,000 ransom. police located the vehicle and the suspects were arrested may 22. a bill passed by the senate is aimed at preventing addiction to prescription drugs and over doses. the bill would require doctors to check a statewide database before prescribing to patients. this could keep patients from getting drugs from different
