police didn't intervene. >> i'm ken wayne. >> and i'm heather holmes. they spun their wheels as part of a dangerous side show and it went on for several minutes without any officers on the scene. paul chambers is here now after asking opd questions about how they plan to respond to these street antics. >> >> reporter: side shows are pretty common in the city of oakland. they had 16 officers dedicated the monitoring clubs and areas where side shows are popular. there were several side shows in the city. when we called the police, they said they didn't have any record of it. however, when we listened to police radio traffic, they said otherwise. this was the scene just before midnight near the 880 northbound. in a video, you don't see any

oakland officers. we asked police about the event. they said there was no record of it but the record proved otherwise. >> there are probably 30 to 40 vehicles out here and probably oh, 100 people. they are taking up the intersection. >> reporter: we only recorded four minutes of the side show, but the radio traffic lasted more than eight minutes. this video shows the burnt out tire tracks. there were multiple side shows. the cars moved off the highway and onto the city street. this is what they decided to do. >> copy, stand back, monitor. >> copy. that is what we are doing. >> reporter: after hearing this, we again asked police about the side shows. the new response was patrol officers didn't call any side

show activities in. now we placed several calls, e- mails, and text messages to higher ups in the police department and never heard back. but opd is supposed to have an assigned unit for side shows and he is pleased the activity deny take place in an immediate neighborhood but there need to be a safe organized place for them to take place. >> we have seen side shows in this part of oakland even out on the freeway before. here is some video of one that took place back in january. people were out of their cars. all this taking plague on northbound 880 there by the coliseum. it shows about a dozen cars spinning donuts an driving wrecklessly. we are told when officers showed up to break up this side show, they were pelted with rocks and bottles. the eldest son of vice president joe biden has died of brain cancer. joseph biden iii known as beau

>> reporter: eligible users get one dollar for every foot of landscape replaced up to $1,000. you must have an inground irrigation system. the program is not for backyards and not retro active. it is one of several rebate programs around the entire bay area. >> i don't qualify because i don't have an inground sprinkler system. >> reporter: even if you don't qualify, you can switch out your lawn to water wise perennials like salias or sage. steven wexler in pleasant hills say salvias come from similar climates and one established in a garden, they only need to be watered every two weeks. >> they are adaptable to our seasonal rain changes and if we are without rain five months

sergeant michael maize mistook him for an intruder and shot him to death. his widow kelly filed papers alleging bart denied her husband tactical training. bart maintaining the training program exceeds state standards. we are learning more tonight on the arrest of ray mcdonald on domestic violence and child endangerment. he was arrested early monday morning in san jose. the arrest comes from allegations that he violently pushed and pulled his ex-fiance while she was holding their two month old baby. the his attorney says there was no physical contact. a man who reported a young sacramento girl missing is now facing murder charges. the sacramento sheriff's dep tips confirmed today they found the body of six-year-old jadianna larsen. she had been reported missing thursday. the girl's body was found

burning in a field 90 miles north of sacramento. deputies arrested 25-year-old juan rivera. the boyfriend of the little girl's mother. rivera reported he last saw the girl at the apartment early thursday before he suffered a seizure and passed out. deputies said that jadianna larsen's mother was in medical treatment at the time of her disappearance and she is cooperating with the investigation. >> this mother is not being looked at as a suspect in this case. the mother has had a legitimate reason for not being around. >> juan rivera is being held at the sacramento county jail without bail. he is scheduled to appear in court tuesday. another presidential hopeful threw his hat in the ring for the race for the white house. former maryland governor democrat martin o'malley took the stage today with his wife in baltimore. the 52-year-old is casting himself as a new generation leader who would rebuild the

appalled by the news. >> there is nobody here who derives in pleasure reading about the former speaker's legal troubles. >> reporter: the indictment says he paid cash to someone known as individual a. their relationship goes back to hastert's life before politics when he was a teacher wrestling and football coach in illinois. this is paying attention to a brief bizarre call last november when he was on c-span. >> remember me from yorkville? [ laughter ] >> reporter: according to the indictment, hastert and individual a left in 2010 of he left office. he paid $50,000 increments. he dodged the mandated currency transaction report. when questioned by the fbi, he said he was keeping the cash because he didn't trust the banks. yeah. i kept the cash.

from the devastating floods that killed people. several rivers remain add flood stage and one lake is expanded by 10,000 acres since the flooding began a week ago. emergency personnel are urging residents to be vigilant and sign up for alerts. >> concerned about water flowing over the roads and there are some homes that could be at risk. >> this is the highest we have ever seen it. we have been out here 15 yearsful it is getting kind of crazy. >> the flooding has killed more than 30 people in the region. some of the victims were found 25 miles down river from where they were first swept away. the newly reelected president of fifawasteed no time points fingers at the u.s. and europe over corruption allegations of world soccer's governing bodder. seth blatter was reelected to his fifth term. several people were indicted by the u.s. over bribes and

corruption involving soccer tournaments and the television rights to broadcast them. in an interview with swiss tv, blatters says he thought the u.s. planned to make the arrest to derail his presidential bid. many countries support him because of the millions of dollars fifa makes. there were attacks in nigeria after the new president was sworn in vowing to take action against boko haram. a suicide bomber killed at least 16 people. he is a military leader and a muslim who survived an attack last year. as a speech as president, he called boko haram a godless group as far away from islam as you can get. he vowed to rescue the girls captured by them last year as

well. a powerful earthquake struck off the islands of japan of ogasawa about 8:30 last night. the islands are 600 miles south oftokyo. this is what it looked like inside a tokyo news room when the quake hit. there were no reports of any damage. the quake struck so far beneath the earth's surface that it triggered phantom quakes right here in california. one in mendocino county and the other on the central coast. three quakes have been erroneously reported by the usgs in recent days triggered by a larger quake somewhere else. the united states and iran resumed talks to try to reach a nuclear accord by the deadline. as john hutter reports, the talks described as intense lasted six hours and kicked off what is expected to be a political tug of war. >> reporter: the meeting between secretary of state john kerry and his iranian

counterpart lasted about six hours and it kicks off what will be the next round of negotiations in what has been a political tug of war over iran's nuclear program. secretary of state john kerry and foreign minister last meet in april when the u.s. and the five other world powers reached a framework agreement with iran. but several critical points of contention remain unresolved. in particular, access to iran's military site by iaea international atomic agency inspectors. the u.s. wants to ensure iran doesn't have any bomb making capabilities for at least ten years and u.s. officials say if iran doesn't agree to the inspections, it would be a deal breaker. today, senior iran negotiator arachi said the inspection of military sites is completely out of the question and off the table. and then there is the question of sanctioning on iran. if an agreement is reach, iran

wants them lifted immediately, but the u.s. wants them lifted over time and wants a snap back mechanism if iran doesn't agree to the terms of a deal. those involved in the talk said they were the most substancive since an agreement was reached in april. while some are optimistic a final accord will be agreed upon, others are not. talks have fallen apart before and u.s. officials say going beyond that deadline is not an option. in jerusalem, john huty, fox news. today, bb king was honored at his funeral. hundreds packed the church in mississippi to pay their respects. musicians paid tribute to his legendary talent. his family says his music

>> a high school football coach from around the bay area got tips today on keeping players safe from concussions. usa football master trainer jared mullen conducted the

training in santa clara. the coaches learned the latest tackling and blocking techniques to protect the head and they received train on recognizing concussions an how to respond to them. coaches are eager to keep their teams safe and healthy. >> what we are trying to do is give them the information backed up by the research. by the cdc. things like that. constantly perfect your craft is something all coaches strive for. >> now of course football is not the only dangerous sport. klay thompson was kneed in the head wednesday during the warrior's series clinching a win over the houston rockets. thompson was diagnosed with a concussion. and can't play again until his symptoms are cleared under nba guidelines. >> a 50-foot commercial fishing boat got stuck in the waters of half-moon bay after running into rocks in the ritz karl ton hotel. the captain was the only person

aboard. he was not hurt. authorities try today bring him to shore overnight but he insisted on staying with his boat. an hawaiian fisherman was killed in a freak accident in kona harbor when he was stabbed with the bill of a fish. he was in the swatter with the spear gun when the fish reportedly struck the man in the chest with its sharp bill. the man had indeed suffered a puncture wound to his chest. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. a string of southern california beaches have reopened after a cleanup of oil clumps. surfers and swimmers were back in the water today. officials had closed a seven mile stretch after tar balls washed up. crews collected about 40 cubic yards of the oily stuff. they are trying to figure out if it came from the santa barbara oil spill, a pipeline,

within a canopy of trees are some of the sounds of the redwood park in oakland. >> it is a stunning oasis in the bay area. >> reporter: thousands of nonnative trees are here as well. >> one of the things we enjoy when we go on the hikes is going through the trees. >> the eucalpytuses make a tremendous amount of dust. they are full of hot oil and they burn like crazy. >> reporter: removing eucalpytus, monterrey pines and acasia trees over a ten year period is part of a fire reduction plan. >> we will be very selectively thinning out dead trees, diseased trees. dying trees. saplings as well. some healthy will stay. >> reporter: uc berkeley east bay parks applied for 4.5 million in grant money for the project and fema approved it. they voted to accept the federal money. some showed up to voice their concerns in vain. >> the project goal is to

remove the forest and create grassland. >> reporter: nathan with the east bay coalition. >> people from all over the bay area come to the hills and all those people from going to be horrified if the trees start falling. >> reporter: other oakland hills homeowners welcome the idea. cederic gold remembers the fire in 91. >> my wife ran out of the fire where our children. >> reporter: for some, the nonnative trees are east bay icons. for others, a fire hazard. others agree without them the landscape will look dramatically different. they just have o posing views if that is a good thing or not. >> about 3,000 people took part in a 5k walk today to raise aness about mental illness for those struggling with mental health issues. the 11th annual national alliance on mental illness started in san francisco's golden gate park this morning. the group wants to remove the

stigma of mental illness and offer free resources for people affected by mental health issues. robert vilanueva was the speaker and struggles with his own mental health. >> yeah, we in the community whether it is teachers, law enforcement. bore, sister, mom, saying yeah, we are coming out. we can live productive lives and still have a severe mental illness. >> according to the group, only 60 million americans experience a mental health condition every year. mental illness affects the lives in at least one in four adults and one in ten children across the u.s. each year. oakland police are looking for a driver thought to have deliberately run down and killed a man. police found the victim just after 11:00 last night on 28th street near san pablo avenue. he was dead at the scene. police are treating the death as a homicide, they are looking

for a 2013 white toyota cruiser. police identified the victim as 37-year-old royce v. vaughn of oakland. oakland police are also looking for the driver of a tan saab sedan who fled a hit and run scene. the passenger of a pickup truck died and the truck driver and a second passenger were hospitalized. a woman in an audi survived. the last known man to help build the golden gate bridge has died. 98-year-old gus gilalti died tuesday in san jose just a day before the 78th anniversary of the bridge's opening. in 1935, he started work as an electrician's assistant for 75 cents an hour. the family says he was modest about his contribution to the bay area's most famous landmark. he settled in los banos and ran

a repair shop until he was 88. it is a special weekend in the bay area for many pets in the area. shelters are taking part in maddie's adoption days. it lets families adopt an animal for free. usually there is an adoption fee. there is a constant demand for families willing to share their home with a new animal friend. >> so many animals need homes and right now, i'm fostering a little seven week old puppy who just got adopted. >> so far, more than 3,000 pets have been adopted this weekend from bay area shelters. well 49ers fans living near the state capital got a rare chance to meet a team legend. joe montana made an appearance in roseville this afternoon. the hall of famer spent time signing autographs and taking several pictures. it has been 23 years since

>> a warmer day around the bay area, especially for inland communities. we remained boxed in around the coastline with cool conditions but inland, some areas reached into the low 90s . 93 in oakdale. 88 in areas around antioch. giving you a view of the low clouds beginning to spill back across into the bay and moving into the east bay as well as the north bay. and continuing to hug the coastline. squeezing in just a little bit here, you can see across the bay bridge as well as the san mateo. you will find it here. in the evening hours it will continue to push in once again. we have a switch in our weather pattern coming our way. we have a cool down coming. if today was a bit hot for you, not everybody getting in on the hot weather but if you did, we

do have changes coming. fairfield reporting a breeze. as we get into the overnight hours, the marine layer will deepen. it has to do with the system here off the coast. if i pull back just a little bit, point out to you the system that will be approaching the bay area as we get into tomorrow, it is going to bring the cooler pattern. it may also bring a little drizzle and a few sprinkles. as we get going tomorrow morning, the low clouds, deepening marine layer. as we get into the afternoon, temperatures for inland cities coming down by five, even ten degrees with partly cloudy skies expected for the afternoon on your sunday. i want to show you the future cast model because there may be the possibility of a little drizzle that moving through the bay area. as i roll through this, you will notice this system off the coastline will actually be moving and lifting a little bit northeast. it will weaken as it moves closer to us. but it will also i guess bring, i guess. [ laughter ] it will also bring us the possibility of a few

scattered showers. here we are. sunday is dry, but monday morning may see a few sprinkles there in parts of the north bay. it will not be a huge event. we may wake up with a little drizzle. a few isolated sprinkles. for tomorrow, temperatures going to see a difference. especially inland cities. notice that shade of orange indicating the 80s . pushing back along the bay. we are going to see temperatures in the 60s and a lot more in the way of just cooler weather for the inland communities. unfortunately along the coast, a lot of folks wanting to see sunshine. not going to see it again tomorrow as the pattern remains the same. 53 degrees tomorrow morning as we start out in oakland. 54 mountain view. 50 for pacifica into the afternoon, pacifica only warming nine degrees or so. we have temperatures in the 60s to low 70s . mid 70s san jose. mid to upper 70s for the warmer locations. not those upper 80s and 90s that we saw for today. the extended forecast with the second half of your weekend in
