for cover. the dramatic chase that was all caught on camera. mornings on 2 continues. good morning. thank you for joining us i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. it didn't feel too cool outside to me. >> no, it's on the mild side. it's not as bad as it was. most of the temperatures coast and bay have come up. water temps have come up. it's not as weld cold. a month ago it was freezing. and also along the temps. still plenty of areas of fog this morning. more so with fog but there are noticeable breaks in the clouds this morning. let's head up first and take care of our social media here with ann. all the doors and windows are open to cool down from yesterday. i'll have news for you it will be a little warmer today. our own michelle says those fog horns have been driving me nuts

[ laughter ] i understand there is a lot of fog around. speaking of san francisco we will go 68 to start. running a little above. some breaks in the low clouds. the system from yesterday gave us the drizzle. 49 in santa rosa. over all lots of sunshine today. fog, low clouds, and then sunny. mild to warm. muggy for some. especially if you get into a south breeze that helps. upper 70s and 80s inland. 60s and 70s coast and bay. we are going to talk about that in just a moment. i want to touch on the bay bridge toll plaza. pardon me. westbound. it's backed up now that they have turned the metering lights on. it's backed up to the mccarthur

maze. those metering lights are on and the traffic continues to be slow into san francisco. it's kind of normal but we don't have anything going on now. here's a look at the commute as you drive in oakland. traffic is moving along if some people told me vasco road was closed. we don't have a way to confirm that from agencies but a lot of people told me that. that means people were on the altamont pass. and look at all of that slow traffic on the altamont pass. not only there but also on the 580 heading out to the 680 interchange. if this is your commute, you need to allow extra time. 6:02 let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong after a firey plane crash in river mother. temperature testimony -- tara moriarty is live near the

airport. >> reporter: we are starting to see movement in the field behind me. we are not sure if that is the ntsb but they are expected this morning. the sheriffs office says this pilot may have reported problems to the tower shortly before the crash. witnesses say the plane went down. men firefighters say lived. investigators say the pilot of the sip l enen edge are -- that person was the only person on board that i know of. ever >> i they had felt it and heard it and hear the airplane's ebb

gin -- so we can't find a tail number and we are working on that right now. >> reporter: investigators say this plane crashed in the same area where another plane crashed about nine months ago. typically it takes months for the ntsb to come up with a probable cause for accidents. so it could be some time before we figure out exactly what happened in this field. live from livermore i'm tara moriarty. a wanted parolee is back in custody after a wild police chase in san francisco last night. the chase ended in a crash involving several vehicles at fifth and mission about 5:30 last night. police officers struggled getting them out of the car. suspects sped off striking a parole agent who was luckily not seriously hurt.

>> originally when i saw it i thought the car was going pretty fast. and then it ran out of the corner. and then you see a bunch of cars getting hit. >> the suspect was taken to the hospital. so was another woman who was injured in the crash. her injuries do not appear to be serious. we are also learning more about the suspect accused in a bold heist at a car dealership in san francisco. this is a story we brought you as breaking news yesterday morning. police identify the suspect as 37-year-old peter duroran of san francisco. he's accused of stealing a $100,000 bmw. he drove it through a huge plate glass window. police say he took off but was arrested about an hour later.

police and bomb sniffing dogs searched a plane in philadelphia after a reported bomb threat. now 88 passengers and five crew members they were on the flight that left san diego last night. passengers were taken off the plane, the plane was searched. police say the search turned up no evidence of explosives. now the head of the tsa the transportation security admission. now under cover agents were able to smuggle banned items through tsa areas. travelers hearing about this report say they are near voice about flying. >> it would be nice to know i'm more secure. not just anybody can get on there. >> i feel very scared on that.

only because it's not just me. it's the whole plane. >> in response to that report, homeland security secretary jay johnson has ordered the tsa to be revise their airport security procedures and retrain officers and retest screening equipment in airports all across the country. a deadly hit and run in antioch prompted people in one neighborhood to take action to make their community safer but this morning the speed bumps they install vd been removed. paul chambers is in antioch to talk about what is happening out there. paul. >> reporter: good morning pam. the area where i'm standing is where the speed bumps were at yesterday until yesterday. they were installed after a 47- year-old man was hit along this street. you can see there is a memorial

to him. ever according to the contra it's a -- police later arrested the teen who could be facing vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run charges. the times goes on to say the hudson's mother told city council members that speeding drivers was a problem well before her son's death before she had a chance to do sox the bumps were ill bole if but doing so created a from liability. now according to city officials they did not know that was going on at the same time. if they did, they said they would not have done it that day. hopefully later on we will talk to people that live on the street about the speeding issue and the speed bumps. we've been out here for an hour

or so, people have been driving pretty fast up and down the road. of course i don't have a thing to track their speed but i can tell you it was well over 25 miles an hour. hopefully we talk to people out here this morning. pam. >> it will be interesting to hear what they think about the speed bumps and if they want to go through the proper protocool to get speed bumps installed out there. 6:09 is the time. the city of menlo park my consider changing its police body camera policy. the proposed change would make it possible to have video recordings of themselves deleted. but the city councilman and a police chief have worked out a compromise that would allow people to request video to be deleted if it has no investigative relevant and if they are willing to sign a waiver. five people escape a burning house in the south bay.

welcome back to mornings on 2. the bay area transgender community say they are proud of bruce jenner's decision to become a woman. he is on the cover of vanity fair with a new look and new name, caitlyn. the cover photos they surfaced on line yesterday. transgender activists say having jenner go public will help in the fight for equality and acceptance.

>> activists hope jenner's decision will lead to more conversations about issues facing the community including high suicide rates and also a lack of health care insurance. caitlyn jenner also set a new twitter record. she gained more than one million followers in four hours and four minutes. president obama used to hold that record. at last check caitlyn jenner has almost 2 million twitter followers. 7 of 8 con stores used to hold brightly color flagged disappeared. for more than two years the flags have been helping people safely cross busy lincoln avenue. the woman responsible for them says they work. >> so yeah you teal dorky but i have also driven down the street a hundred times at least. and you can't see people with a

bright orange flag you can see them. so dorky or night i don't want to be in the hospital. >> holly bar says she does not know if this was a prank or mean spirited action. the university of alabama is bringing his football program back. the university's president made a controversial decision to shut down the football program saying it was too expensive. now president ray watt says renewed commitment has made the reinstatement possible. an estimated $27 million has been raised by supporters and students and also by the city. however, a timetable has not been set as yet. many of the team's players by the way transferred to other programs. back over to sal and check in on the morning commute. how sit -- how is it, sal this

ñsxóxgñ welcome back to mornings on 2. rescue teams in china can see they are still looking for survivors of a cruise ship that sank on the river. crews are listening for sounds of life inside that over turned ship. the government owned station says 15 survivor have be found but that ship was carrying 458 people including many older

tourists. at least five people are confirmed dead. rescue and recovery every torts continue. but the storms out there hampering their efforts. federal transportation officials will face tough questions on train safety in the wake of last months deadly amtrak crash. the main focus of the hearing white technology to slow down the train was not in place to slow down the crash. the train was going 106 miles an hour on a curve that has a 50 miles an hour speed limit when it derailed. investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash but there are reports that they may be looking at human error. actor comedian tracy morgan finally talking publicly about his near death experience that kill z his close friend. >> when i got home, it really hit me. and every day i would just watch the accident on youtube and one day i came across this

stream on youtube and i lost it for about a week. >> had ha hard time talking about the death of his friend jimmy and that night a walmart big rig hit their limousine in new jersey. this bus last june. tracy morgan and two other friends were seriously hurt. walmart reached a controversial settlement. even though the case is over the pain of what happened would not go away. he also said he would like to get back to doing comedy but right now he is focuses on healing. the widow of a police officer was search ever searching an apartment in for smith's widow kelly is also a police officer. she says before her husband

'cuz killed, he was getting frustrated about the lack of training under bart and told her to sue if anything happened to him. kelly says bart denied her husband tactical training request. bart is maintaining its program exceeds state standards. bart's top priority is the safety of their officers. now one proposal would prohibit spending any city money on buying sugar filled drinks. another would ban soda ads on city owned property. and a third would mandate warnings that soft drinks can lead to obesity and diabetes. the beverage industry is fiting back saying soft drinks are being unfairly singled out. the full board is set to vote on the new rules next week. clay thompson was back at the warriors practice. what still needs to happen

on mornings on 2 it's tuesday, june 2nd i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. thank you for joining us. coming up on 6:30. beautiful shot. we've been showing with the transamerica pyramid. >> we have fog to show you. low clouds around. you can see the time lapse. yesterday it was up a little higher. you can see it's a much lower sign. gave us the drizzle, light rain. there is a lot more breaks in the clouds this morning. i would say coverage is cut in half. 55 san francisco to start. we will go for a high of 68. slightly above average. low clouds almost burn off sooner. the system that gave us the cool down yesterday lifted up. 49 santa rosa yet low 60s livermore and san jose. 50s for most. 57 sfo. a little bit of a breeze here.

it will kick in generally out of the west, southwest there is a lot of moisture in the air. 60s and 70s and low 80s. steve, it's not as bad as it was yesterday. that is a victory my friend. a small victory. yesterday we had terrible traffic getting out of san francisco because of road work. today it's not bad. 80 however is a little bit slow. it's not as bad as yesterday. westbound 80, 24 minutes between the carquinez bridge and the macmaze. when you get to the toll plaza, you will see it's very slow here. beautiful weather picture. sun behind the clouds there. we mentioned san francisco yesterday. yesterday we had road work

issue. new this morning a scary way for people to wake up in the south bay. janine de la vega is there and everybody escaped safely but firefighter i can still see them over their shoulder. >> reporter: it is still an active scene. they are keeping a watch on the house. let's show you what is going on. there is a bunch of holes and fire engines and trucks here. what they are trying to do is they are trying to move everything on to one side of the road because this is on highway 9 just south of santa cruz avenue. they want to make sure they are open to one lane up to commuter

traffic. this fire started at 2:30. there were five people inside that were sleeping at the time. they all escaped safely before firefighters arrived. the roof had partially collapsed so firefighters attacked the flames from the outside after around two hours they finally had it contained. the red cross has come to help the people who escaped. we spoke with one woman who told us she woke up to popping noises. >> i was sleeping and i woke up to popping sounds. i thought the guys were playing with fire crackers. and i ran outside and ran around the corner and found smoke coming out upstairs. so that is when i'm like okay it's time to run in and get everybody out. >> firefighters say the origin of the fire was on the second floor and residents tell us there is an artist studio upstairs for lots of paint and

materials were kept. it's too early to tell what the cause of the fire is. people that live here we are told there is a group of friends. they are still looking for one pat. they have still in very much shock and disbelief. we have definitely seen tears here this morning. this home belonged to a family. it has been in the family for three different generations and very sad situation for all of those involved. back to you. >> all right janine de la vega we'll talk to you later. ntsb investigators will comb through a wreckage and plane crash. tara moriarty is joining us now what neighbors say they heard just moments before the plane went down. tara. >> reporter: we just want to

mention we believe the ntsb is finally here. if you take a look behind me, you can see fire crews have just arrived as well. and there appear to be two other cars in addition to the one that was here earlier. you can see the crime scene tape they have the area quarantined off. we have noticed people combing through the area there. we know that they will be using evidence in this field combined with eyewitness reports to figure out what went wrong. we are told the pilot did call the tower. the pilot was killed in the crash. investigators say the pilot of the single engine plane reported control problems shortly after takeoff. that person was the only person on board that we know of.

>> there was a considerable impact and subsequent fire. yeah we are talking to those people and i'm sure the federal authorities will be talking to them as well. >> somebody crashed here nine months ago in this field over this way to the left of where this accident happened. >> investigators say that plane experienced mechanical issues as well. it typically takes months for the ntsb to come out with a probable cause for accidents so it could be some time before we know exactly what happened here in this wide open field. lye from livermore i'm tara moriarty back to you. >> any word from investigators on how they would be able to release the identity? >> reporter: the ntsb does not release the identity of pilots so that would be up to local law enforcement and we have not heard yet about the identity. we know the number on the plane

was bad burned. a federal lawsuit has been filed in the case of a three- year-old girl that was beaten to death in napa. the girl's mother sarah kruger and her boyfriend were arrested in the case. family members filed a federal lawsuit claiming napa officials with the city, police department, and child welfare services failed to fully investigate reports of child abuse. the child's grandmother says she reported to authorities multiple times that her granddaughter was not being fed or cared for and possibly abused. time is 6:37. a worker was accused of sexually abusing a former student. alexander kirks molested a 13- year-old girl in november of last year.

the 13-year-old was a former student that had come back for some reason. now she told her mother about the alleged attack. the mother reported it to police. the day care owner says kirks had been working there for three years and cleared all of the background checks. police say he has no prior record. deadly hit and run prompted one person to make their community safer. this morning the speed bumps they installed to slow down traffic have been removed. ktvu fox 2 paul chambers is live in antioch. have you been able to talk to any of the neighbors? >> reporter: i did. i just spoke to the man that was out here when they removed the speed bumps. -right here until bare metics came. you can see there is memorial to timothy hudson who was hit and killed by a reckless driver. now timothy hudson was killed

along west 11th street. according to the contra costa times the 19-year-old driver that was doing doughnuts when he hit hudson dragged him under his car before speeding off. told city council members at a meeting that speeding drivers were a problem well before her son's death. however before she had the chance to do so the bumps were illegally according to the city installed by a small group of men friday afternoon. now we just spoke to a man that says just days before actually moments before it happened he talked to timothy about something like this happening. >> he said one of these days somebody is going to get killed. mayor is quoted as saying

the people who installed the speed bumps had good intention but he once again was illegal and they could cause hazards. >> that is incredible hearing from him. fbi operating a small air force carrying high-tech surveillance video. that is according to a new report from the associated press. now in a recent 30 day period the ap found the fbi flew more than 100 surveillance flights over 11 states. the fbi says the aviation program is not secret and the flights are for ongoing investigation but the ap says the government has gone to great lengths to conceal its ownership of the planes

registering them to at least 13 fake companies. the u.s. senate scheduled to vote on a replacement bill for the patriot act. the senate will vote today on the usa freedom act. it would phase out the bulk collection of american phone records. the senate failed to act on the fill on sunday mainly because of maneuvering by senator rand paul who is a republican presidential candidate. 6:41 is the time. a hold up at a subway restaurant in martinez. what investigators say the employees went through last night and the surveillance video police want you to see. >> we'll tell you about a new program for state lawmakers that are coming under fire. >> good morning. we are looking at a commute here where traffic getting up to the richmond bridge is getting a little bit slow heading to marin. we'll tell you a little more about the marin county commute. >> still low clouds around but

to pittsburg and then it slows down. there are no major robs on 680 however you will see slow traffic right at 242 so it hasn't been a great commute as you drive through contra costa county. however it's better than it was yesterday. we take every little bit we can. let's take a look at the commute here on highway 101. we promised you a look at marin and southbound 101 from novato to san rafael that looks good. there are no major problems in san francisco. yesterday we had the road work delay on the lower deck of the bay bridge. today it's just not happening. if you're driving on the commute here, it is backed up to the mccarthur maze. metering lights are on. it's a 10-15 minute delay get into san francisco before you make it on to the bridge. now here is steve standing up in the weather center. >> this is live, sal? >> this is live. >> now i'm nervous. low clouds around. nothing compared to what we had yesterday. we had the fog a little bit more today. there is a lot of breaks in

these clouds. a few high clouds around. it will be sunny to mostly sunny. we warmed up coast and bay. a little bit of westerly breeze. kathy is known as napa valley chick. sunny here in browns valley. that fog is dancing around. speaking of napa we have the morning fog and 62 degrees. high today of 78 degrees and some of the temperatures yesterday santa rosa is only 71. today we are going 78 degrees. concord 75 to 79. and san jose 75-76. low clouds will burn back, peel back to the coast much sooner today. the system responsible for our cool down and light rain and drizzle is far enough north. we still get a westerly breeze or some component of it. 48 santa rosa yet low 60s livermore and san jose.

napa airport down to 51. mid 50s. oakland 57. temperature difference a little warmer to the south and then 24 hours ago much cooler to the north. 3-5 degrees cooler than it was. you lose that low cloud deck. not much howling. keep an eye on the water temps. monterey and buoy 57. 50s and 60s through the interior. all projections take that northward over the next 72-96 hours. so stay advised to the latest if you're heading to cabo san lucas from blanco. and then it falls apart as it

welcome back to mornings on 2. people in santa rosa's fountain grove neighborhood are angry that a $4 million fire house will not be allowed to open. building inspectors says the reason is because it does not meet americans with disability act standards. neighbors say they live in high danger area for wild fires and they were counting on this fire station to help protect their homes. >> we're hoping that the response times would be better up here and now that this hasn't gone in, nothing has changed. >> i wish they would just disregard it and open the fire house. that is what is important. >> the city has hired a consultant to look at the problem . we called that
