katsuyama, because tonight, jana got a chance to stop in at that warriors vip party. >> reporter: i certainly did, frank. let me show you this, all of the guests were getting these blue and gold beads. almost like prayer beads for these fans. some have waited a lifetime to get to this championship. let me tell you, there was a lot of excitement tonight as we turn to tomorrow, where all eyes will be on oakland, and the oracle arena. >> reporter: on the eve of the nba finals, the warriors and oakland took a moment to saver this run for the title to celebrate a dream season. >> i am just thrilled to be here. i'm so excited this is an opportunity after 40 years. >> i think we're all just pinching ourselves from the first day of training camp, up to the eve of the finals. this is a very, very rare thing to have a season unfold the way this has. >> tonight, the warriors

come back. northeast ohio needs all it can get. >> reporter: snapping photos of lebron and other cavalier players getting autographs. and for those who loved this game, it's the drama. two great teams, each with great stories, reaching for a place in history. >> i'm trying to absorb all i can. because you never know when it's going to happen again. >> reporter: hard to believe, but it all begins in just 20 hours, and really, these are the memories that for the fans will last a lifetime. >> jana, i'm curious, what did they have to do to get to that vip party? were those season ticket holders? >> reporter: the really, the question of how to get that golden ticket, frank, i talked to the president. he said that really it was about the community partners they had. we saw a lot of people from non- profits who benefited from the warriors foundation. a lot of people who are

volunteers. really, it was about giving back to the community tonight. >> both the cavaliers and warriors dispatched of their rivals in short order. each team has now had a good week to rest up and heal. mark, both teams are ready to get back on the court and get the finals started. >> about as ready as they could possibly be. i'm sure everyone would agree the break was a little too long, but unavoidable. however the prod that we'll see out on the floor, just about as healthy and refreshed as possible. at least at this point in the season. the casual fan may see this as a faceoff between the two biggest stars in the nba. steph curry and lebron james. that doesn't mean they're not the main attraction. james was injured when the cavaliers made their only trip to the bay area.

steph curry, looking relaxed, and spry. showing no ill affects. remember, he took a tumble a little over a week ago in houston. also going through his paces today at the oracle. as for the relationship between these two nba icons, it is a mutual admiration society. >> they beat us that night, but he pulled me off to the side right i left the court. he understood the situation i was in. i was trying to find my way as a player, and basically just said that the one thing you control is your preparation, every single game, how you're going to find ways to get better, and just having tunnel have i gone. you can control your effort, every game. your professionalism, and what you do day in and day out to get yourself ready. there's going to be a time when it's going to work out. >> uncanny, to see a guy in our league shoot the ball as well as he does.

that oil is done from the big spill two weeks ago. the pipeline says the leak that broke and caused the spill was corroded. it had degraded to a point where it was only 1/16 of an inch thick. the location is also near the area where three repairs were made, because of corrosion in 2012. the pipe leaked an estimated 100,000 gallons last month. more than 100 animals died, and dozens of others were coated with oil and some of them are still being treated. we had a small earthquake near the san andreas fault. the u.s. geological survey was centered in holster. it is considered minor. we haven't heard reports of damage.

a workplace accident happened just before 11:00 at xkp. cal osha has been notified and will be handling the investigation into what happened. a robbery suspect behind the wheel of a bmw that hit and seriously injured a pedestrian during a police chase, is still at large tonight. a ktvu news crew was heading east on the bridge when the chase sped right past them. it all started at 10:30 last night. when police tried to pull over the bmw in san francisco. police say the suspect sped away. he hit a 19-year-old man in a crosswalk at 8th and market streets. fortunately, the victim is expected to survive. the chase then continued over the bay bridge and the suspect managed to get away after ditching his car in oakland near the 580 split. a thief grabs a backpack out of an old fire engine. that wouldn't be big news except for what was inside. as rob roth reports, that

backpack was filled with donations to help cancer patients meet their expenses. >> we put the bag up here. >> what was stolen has many people in sasoon city shaking their heads in disgust. >> normally during the day, the backpack stays right here. michael brian also doubles as head of pink solano. an organization that helps cancer patients meet their expansions. o'brien says he put the cash box in a backpack, through the backpack in the unlocked engine cab, and continued cleaning up. minutes later, he noticed the backpack was gone. >> disbelief that anybody would stoop that low. >> gone with it, his fire

santa clara man is receiving serious charges tonight. he's accused of being a felon in possession of a cache of guns and ammunition. what's more, the government agents say the suspect was manufacturers weapons as part of a local militia. >> reporter: federal agents say juan gutierrez had two guns. more than a thousand rounds of ammunition, and the tools to make a lot more. after a 7 month investigation federal agents raided juan's home, and arrested the 41-year- old on firearms charges. neighbor jonathan chang says he woke up to the sound of federal agents next door. >> we weren't really sure what was going on. >> reporter: in their complaint, they say gutierrez is an ex-convict.

i'm just going to go after them. those boys in blue, because it's the easiest target. a special agent named in the affidavit says based on his training, the phrase going on vacation referred to committing violent jihad. in that same communication, he revealed he planned to kill police officers in massachusetts. knowing that, agents of boston pd decided to approach him. >> hopefully it will all come

out later, so there's a better understanding of the level of threat. >> reporter: today at the hearing on domestic terrorism, michael mccall said he had been spreading isis propaganda online. he later said terrorism has gone viral. >> we're finding our operatives in syria, recruiters that have sent directives or calls to arm to people in the united states, to activate them like sleeper cells. david wright appeared in court today. agents also said they're looking for a third person, possibly in the state of rhode island, who may be connected to raheem's terror plot. the state of california has agreed to create a new lethal injection protocol. under a legal settlement. it's been almost ten years since the execution at san quentin. the death penalty was put on hold following the three drugs

the state could use could potentially cause excessive suffering. the agreement is likely to generate a whole new round of legal battles, making it unclear when executions might resume. there are currently about 750 inmates on death row in california. the oakland city council approved a fire prevention plan that fired up a debate over the cutting of trees in the east bay hills. it was early this morning, who councilmembers voted unanimously to accept a $4 million grant. fire officials want to prevent another deadly firestorm like the one in 1991. the plan still needs environmental review and state approval. they also approved a renovation and expansion plan for children's hospital. the master plan includes a

seismically save acute center. the hospital says it has hosted more than 30 community meetings over the last two years to hear the concerns of neighbors. construction is expected to begin late this summer. breezy out there right now. you see the tribune building in oakland. flags are blowing, and pretty clear skies out there right now. there are the high clouds that moved through today. it deposited a few showers north of here. temperatures today were a lot like yesterday. the cloud cover is gradually clearing of that fog right along the coast here. these are the high clouds that you saw go overhead. sunset this evening, actually saw the sunset at the beaches today, which is nice. as we head into tomorrow, it's mostly clear as you get going. temperatures tomorrow, going to be a lot like today. but in the afternoon, we've got a shot for a few showers that could show up in the far north bay. already, you're seeing the winds go south. with a little more south wind, that indicates things are changing just a bit.

pentagon officials are now saying as many as 51 research laboratories may have mistakenly received shipments of live anthrax samples from u.s. military labs. the defense secretary, the deputy secretary of defense says the samples were sent to

labs in 17 states and 3 foreign countries. he says one shipment was even sent to the pentagon's own police department. the samples were intended for research, but they're supposed to be inactive. officials are now working to retrieve the anthrax. while the government says no one is affected, all of this is raising questions about how federal labs handle dangerous substances. tonight, a warning is going out to pet owners in the willow glen neighborhood. investigating a possible case of dog poisoning on a well known hiking trial. >> go on her little trail. >> reporter: like most dogs, she can't wait to go out for her daily walk. but the walk may have put her in harm's way. >> right over in here is where some of the piles of the cat feed have been left. >> reporter: where it came across dry cat food, she says

laced with white powder, after she ate it, she immediately took her to the vet. >> the vet believes had strychnine in it. they can't test it right now, but hopefully they will. >> reporter: strychnine is a poison to kill rodents. she filed this police report. today san jose animal control services was out collecting evidence. >> if you did walk with your dog on that trial within the last week or so, make sure you watch your dog, and if you have any concerns, to go to your medical provider. >> reporter: animal control is taking it to a lab to see what it is. many other dog owners say they're veering away from this trial. not taking any chances. >> as a father of a 2-year-old daughter, we will take family

walks through there. i don't want her touching this poison that's laid out for no reason. >> yes, we need to have this stopped. >> reporter: this whole thing was not cheap. the owner ended up spending more than $300 for the emergency medical visit. azenith smith, ktvu, fox 2 news. a new survey from the national institutes of health finds that 33 million adults, 33 million, suffer from problems related to alcohol abuse and dependence. but most have never tried to get treatment. this is the first estimate based on a new definition of alcohol use disorders. it combines alcohol abuse and alcohol dependents, which until now had been considered two separate drinking disorders. the new guidelines define problem drinkers as people with at least 2 of 11 symptoms. those systems include frequent hangovers, cravings for alcohol, failed attempts to stop or limit drinking, and problems performing at work or

>> some call the climate change bills that pass through the state senate today historic, and put california on par with other nations with ambitious goals to curb green house gases. >> reporter: can california reduce the use of gasoline by half in 15 years? what about renewable resources? those are among the goals and legislation passed by the state senate today. >> this passage of bills will put california on a pathway to sustainable economic growth. protecting the health of our communities and integrity of our environment. >> reporter: under the bills, california would limit greenhouse gases to 40% of 1990 levels by 2030, and 80% by 2050. >> it was another historic day in california. >> reporter: the natural resources defense council says these are achievable goals. california is already on target

to reach a more than 30% renewable energy by 2020. >> we think it's very doable. in fact, we're seeing an explosion of construction of renewable solar and wind energy around the state. >> reporter: saying california's energy costs are already higher than other states. >> so all of these policies at some point, we feel good that we're leading the world, yet we're leaving many families behind, because they're not benefiting. >> it drew criticism, which says it remains opposed to the petroleum production of the bill, and it will educate the public on the enormous impact it will have on all californians. supporters argue that green policies go hand in hand. >> in 2006, when we had our first climate bill that the

naysayers were predicting doom at that point. >> reporter: this fight is far from over, and could stretch through the summer. the senate bill must go back to the say assembly, leaving plenty of opportunity for lobbying on both sides of this issue. >> ken, thank you. another candidate has entered the race for president. today all of a sudden lincoln chaffee. chaffee used to be a republican and was the only republican senator to vote against the iraq war. he became a democrat two years ago. some consider his campaign a long shot. he's called for an open minded approach to drug trafficking and said he would consider negotiating with isis. there is also word late tonight former texas governor rick

perry plans to run again. he will have an official announcement tomorrow in dallas. ktvu's allie rasmus tells us, safety problems were uncovered during a surprise inspection of a bay area trucking company that was involved in a deadly crash earlier this year. >> march 16, he was killed when he lost control of his dump truck and crashed into an empty restaurant in pittsburgh. while officials report on the cause of the crash isn't released yet, the chp says bad brakes may have been to blame. >> several of the eyewitnesses to the collision did report the vehicle was running away at that time. >> reporter: it appears faulty brakes are not an isolated problem. in a surprise inspection of the company, the chp found problems with five of the six trucks in its fleet. the chp numbered robbie trucking three times since october and they have failed every test. the end result, they recommended the dmv suspend or

revoke the permit. >> very dangerous if not maintained appropriately they're heavy vehicles. they carry a lot of weight. if the brakes don't work. if the steering doesn't work, if there's any issue with it mechanically, that puts everyone around them at risk. >> reporter: an inspection found they did not check the records of two drivers before hiring them. one of the drivers was levee. the owners weren't around when we visited is this afternoon, but one of the drivers says he was hired about 6 weeks ago, told us he feels safe. >> so this isn't the worst company to work for. >> no. it's not. >> are you worried about driving these trucks? >> no. i find something wrong with it, they fix it. >> along with likely losing their permit over this, the chp has also asked the district attorney's office to consider filing criminal charges against the owners of robbie trucking for intelligence. in san francisco's chinatown tonight, people

get the issue on the november ballot. supervisor david campos, and ed lee proposed a bill that would keep restaurants from getting too large in the mission district. specifically, it can would stop the merger of retail space. there's concern that larger, high end restaurants will squeeze out the smaller ones. the nfl is teaming up with yahoo to deliver the league's first ever global live stream for free. the nfl says the bills jaguars game in london will be broadcast across multiple yahoo platforms. the nfl also says football fans should be able to access the game on any kind of device. wall street rebounded from yesterday's losses on encouraging economic news. the dow gained 64. the nasdaq was up 22. the s & p 500 rose 4. reports that exports rose and hiring picked up last month.

there was a water main break this evening. a viewer sent us these photos of all the water there at the intersection of piedmont road and brandy lane. she said the leak started at 7:30 tonight, and buckled the roadway. when we arrived, the crews were on the scene working to fix the damage. we did reach out to the water company. as of just now, they have not gotten back to us about the cause or the amount of water that leaked. california's drought is forcing many people to rethink the way we use water, especially when it comes to landscaping in the yard. >> as ken wayne tells us, more and more homeowners are turning to artificial turf to replace their thirsty lawns. >> reporter: a nice lawn takes a lot of work and water. for some, it's just not worth it anymore. >> 30 something years of having droughts on and off. >> reporter: jim lucy has bit the bullet and replaced his sod with artificial turf. >> i would not have gotten this, because i didn't like the

that's your bay area thursday where highs will be about where they were today. the clouds lingering down to the san jose area. a bright, bright moon. especially this last month of may. it has not been a great night for stars. and viewing the sky. the systems out there now, it's coming a little closer. you can see this area pretty much showing up to the north of us. even showers showing up around sacramento and redding, and towards bernie and these areas in northeast california. for us, we're just set up with a pattern. this low that's going to scoop through. it's doing it right now. as it does, it's going to create this circulation. this circulation is going to continue as it tracks south of here, and as storms develop on the west slope of the sierra nevada, some of that blowoff is going to come back our way. first thing in the morning, look for drizzle as this system slides down. tomorrow morning, a lot like the last few mornings have been. when you go through the bay area microclimates, it's the

same deal, plenty of sunshine. it starts off cloudy, then it clears up pretty quickly. the highs go mid-70s, upper 70s in warm spots, maybe a couple of low 80s. so more of the same tomorrow, basically. the caveat is we're going to see change with a chance of showers. first we go to san jose, which gets 74 degrees for a daytime high tomorrow. so there's a spin. tomorrow morning, here's the fog footprint and here's that drizzle i was talking about. what you want to notice over here about noon time, thunderstorms pop off. they're all going to start to come this way. here's a little something around 4:00. shows up around heeledsberg. it wouldn't take much for that to show up over the napa valley. friday morning, there's a little bit of fog. there's friday afternoon, more showers, and thunder showers around lake tahoe. it's not a long shot, but it
