ting in pittsburg overnight. we'll have a live report on the police activity still taking place at this hour. a police chase ended in a tense standoff in the east bay. the reason officers had to shut down a highway for more than an hour and how they were eventually able to arrest the suspect overnight. >>reporter: dove nation is ready to go. the stage is all set for the nba finals here at oracle arena. the game is tonight, warriors and cavs, steph curry, lebron james. it will be a fun one. we'll tell you how the players and the fans are getting ready for it next. good morning. thank you for joining us, thursday, june 4th. i'm pam cook. >> we're ready. good morning, i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. steve, good weather for nba basketball? well, yeah. but right now we have rain up north. >> you're kidding. >> there's some rain up in mendincino county, lake county and sonoma county. we'll get some partly sunny,
6:01 am
partly cloudy skies, very active low for june 4th has dropped in now. the cloud cover zipped by overnight, but it's starting to wrap back in. it's sort of disrupt the fog bank a little bit. there's still some low clouds around, but from upper lake, highway 20, 29 maybe 128 and then 101 from ukiah down to cloverdale, heelsburg and windsor north of santa rosa wrapping back right into 116 towards the russian river and it looks like over towards grayton and sabasstepool. an active day for the north bay and probably the east bay later on today. the low is right there. that's pretty big. now, we have to wait for this to start dropping back in over the bay area and it will. and you get some 70s and low 80s later today that, will help fuel this. 50s on the temp. there's a rather robust and fresh breeze, though. it's going to be a cooler day, kind of breezy, blustery at times and we'll see mostly sunny and all of a sudden mostly cloudy skies probably later on. so i'll kind of split the difference here. breezy to windy, below normal techs, no doubt about it. showers, possible thunderstorms north in early in the morning
6:02 am
and everyone else inland i think later on today. 50s, 60s and mainly 70s. 6:01. >>reporter: yes, it is 6:01. finally i'm awake, steve. by the way, steve, this message is for you, it's for all of our -- from all of ow viewers, in sonoma county in heelsburg it's raining, according to a tweet i got from gino who follows me on twitter here. gino whitehall. thank you, gino. it's raining in heelsburg if you're driving in sonoma county, you may want to give yourself extra time. let's go out and take an extra look at the commute here on the east shore freeway. you can see the traffic is busy, but not really slow between the cartenas bridge and the macarthur maze. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you'll be baiting for a -- waiting for a bit. there was an accident up on the deck, not serious. 25 minutes before you actually make it on to the bridge. traffic is still going to be okay on 680, concord to walnut creek. if you are driving south. and as we move down to the valley here, 580 westbound
6:03 am
looks good. no problems there. southbound 880 and hayward near eighth street there was an accident there. 6:02. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. we begin with developing news in pittsburg we've been following where two brothers were shot overnight, one of them died at the scene. knew news fox 2's tara moriarty there as well this morning with brand new video that was just taken a short time ago. tara. >>reporter: yeah. authorities just towed away a car as evidence. we're not sure exactly what they were looking for inside that car, but it was parked across the street here from the home where the shooting happened. we're not sure what police may find inside of the car. this is video taken a short time ago. if it's a weapon or just fingerprints, but sources tell knew news that someone entered the home on saint maritz drive about quarter to one this morning and fired half a dozen shots, killing one of two brothers who live in the home. investigators have been in and out of the home this morning, gathering evidence. police are looking at whether drugs or gangs were involved. according to a family member
6:04 am
someone came to the house and shot both of the brothers, one in the leg, he is now at the hospital. the other man was shot and killed. now, the only description we have of these victims is that they are in their 30s and latino. family members were too distraught to go on camera. we do know that a dog was out here trying to pick up a scent of the suspect or suspects, but at this point police are not officially commenting, and if we get any information, we, of course, will pass it along to you this morning. live from pittsburg, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you, tara. we'll check back in with you throughout the morning. 6:04 is the time. eastbound highway 4 at 680 is open again, but that's following a police standoff last night. the chp says about 11:30 last night vallejo police started chasing a suspect at highway 37 who finally stopped on highway 4 but refused to get out of the car. now, the police brought in an armored car so that they could move in safely and make an arrest. by 1:15 this morning the freeway was open again. the chp says the suspect had a
6:05 am
medical issue. >> all right, pam. time is 6:04. today is the day, it's been 40 years in the making for the golden state warriors. yesterday the warriors were back on the practice court, they're getting ready for tonight's game one of the nba finals with the cleveland cavaliers and they're getting ready. ktvu fox 2's, the "a man" alex savidge inside oracle arena right now. yeah, he's got his sticks, he's ready. and, alex, you know what the players are thinking and feeling getting ready for tonight's big game. >>reporter: yeah, i think so. i think the warriors are pretty relaxed despite the fact that none of these players have ever played on this big a stage, none of them have ever been to the nba finals, but i think they're feeling good, they're well rested after this week- long layoff. and let me tell you something, dove nation is going to make things real tough on lebron and the cavs. these are thunder sticks if i can get them to work there. they're supposed to make it loud inside the arena and also distract folks at the free
6:06 am
throw line. so they're going to give about 8,000 fans some of these thunder sticks. >> i hear you, man. >>reporter: all the folks will be behind the baskets, right? so when lebron is at the line, it'll be difficult for him to pay attention there. hopefully he'll brick a couple of free throws. game one, nba finals, it happens here tonight at oracle and as you can well see, the stage is all set here, this long week layoff is finally over and things will get under way tonight. the warriors, they were out here yesterday, they took practice here, it was sort of a light workout at the arena. mvp steph curry, of course, he is feeling good after he got banged up, that nasty fall he had in the western conference finals against the houston rockets when he got sort of flipped over and landed on his back and got roughed up a bit. also clay thompson, you have to worry about his health -- or we were worried about his health after taking that knee to the head in that same series, but he is clear to play. he's already ready to go for this final series. on the other side of the ball, of course, we gotta deal with
6:07 am
lebron james, arguably the best player in basketball right now, and he comes into town with the cleveland cavaliers who are playing very well right now. they worked out yesterday here at the arena. both james and curry obviously pose a lot of matchup problems for the defenses. and these two stars, they really have a ton of respect for each other, steph curry was talking yesterday about some advice he got from lebron back when he was playing college ball. >> basically just said the one thing you can choose is your preparation every single game, how you're going to find ways to get better and just having tunnel vision. no matter what's going on around you urks you can control, you know, your effort every game. >> i don't think there's ever been a guy in our league to shoot the ball as well as he does off the dribble or off the catch, off the ball and, you know, he just creates so many matchup problems for your conference and you always have to be aware of him. >>reporter: how do you slow him down? >> same way you slow me down. you can't. [ laughter ]
6:08 am
>>reporter: mutual respect there between lebron and steph curry and that matchup should be fun, even though they won't necessarily be facing each other one on one on the court. the warriors back in the finals for the first time in 40 years. we have heard that, it's been a very long time for fans and a lot of fans who were at the game the last time around, the last championship there sort of reminiscing right now. we talk with rodney woo, and he was there for games one and two at the cal palace in 1975. that's the last time the warriors took the title. they faced off against the washington bullets and they swept the bullets that year. now, we talked with woo at his house in san francisco. he told us that he remembers it was really easy for his family to go and buy tickets and at that time they cost just $6. >>reporter: $6, people are paying $600 for one ticket, and you add a couple zeros and you get the ticket price now 20 years later. >>reporter: and that '75 team, they were led by rick berry and
6:09 am
they went on to sweep the washington bullets and they won that title, but that was four decades ago and now this year's team led by the splash brothers, steph and clay and, of course, a great cast of characters behind them, a great squad here led by steve kerr, first-time head coach in the nba finals. here they are, the stage is all set. i'm try to go get these thunder sticks to work properly, dave. hopefully the fans know how to operate these. maybe these are broken. sphwr maybe people are thinking because it's early in the morning, people haven't had their coffee and breakfast, maybe it's deliberately you can't make them too loud, how about that? >> maybe so. these are morning thunder sticks. >> the "mornings on 2" thunder sticks. hey, great job, man. you got the best story of the day. alex savidge. >>reporter: i really do. thanks dave. >> talk to you later, man. this is also a good time for the warriors fans, as you know, relishing that magic moment, celebrating the dream season. last night the team actually
6:10 am
thanked the community for their support. they hosted this v.i.p. party at the lake chal et in oakland. the warriors invited community partners and volunteers, many of them dressed up in warriors gear. they sipped some champagne and cocktails on the blue and gold tables overlooking lake merritt. >> i've been here since i was 16 years old. this is a very, very rare season to have a -- a rare thing to have a season unfold the way this one has. >> you can't wear your loud yellow outfit anywhere else but for the warriors. >> she looks great. across the bay san francisco fans were packing the warriors store, buying up all kinds of warrior merchandise. a popular item? a great big cutout of the face of steph occury. you can understand why. we have complete warriors coverage for you on our channel 2 website, ktvu.com. get all the latest news, even test your knowledge with ktvu's own warriors quiz. we'll have more live coverage coming up in our next half

time now 6:14. we are following a tragic still- developing story happening overseas. it happened in west africa in ghana. a gas station where people were taking shelter to get away from torrential flooding and rains, it exploded. at least 73 people were killed. this happened in the capital city. authorities say the flood apparently released fuel from a storage container, the fuel was ignited by a fire burning at a house nearby and that triggered a massive explosion. federal agents accused a santa clara man of making guns as part of a local militia. agents raided the home of 41- year-old juan gutierrez on tuesday morning. they arrested him and seized two assault-style weapons and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition. a criminal complaint against him says a concerned citizen contact the fbi last august, claiming that gutierrez bragged about using guns despite being an ex-con and joining the group the california state militia. time is now 6:15. cheering on family and friends

6:18 am
time of the morning. let me qualify that because when you look at the toll plaza you will see slow traffic for sure. that's ordinary. you can see some slow traffic. it's just a little bit slower than it normally is. we have a -- we had an accident, actually on the upper deck of the the bay bridge, so we're a little bit backed up 25 to 30 minutes but the good news is there are no lane obstructions on the bridge anymore. there's a little bit of a backup, but no more accident on the bridge. traffic is going to be backed up. this would be a great morning for you to take bart. i just checked in with them, no major delays anywhere on the system and that includes getting into san francisco. but let's say you want to avoid that slow traffic and go down to the san mateo bridge, should be pretty good for you. a little bit of slow traffic on southbound 880. southbound 880 at eighth street, you should avoid that off ramp for the time being. there was a minor accident nearby and also some police activity in the same general location. it's not too bad right now, though. the just driving by using the san mateo bridge which could be a pretty good route for you to the peninsula. highway 101 getting into the
6:19 am
silicon valley, well, it looks good, sunnyvale and cupertino and we can look at 101 in san jose along northbound 101, it does look okay getting up to the airport. so so far so good. of course there's some normal slowdowns, but nothing too bad just yet at 6:18. let's bring in steve with today's forecast. >> all right, sal, thank you. as you touched on early, we've had some reports up towards the north bay, healsburg, i know jenny around forestville says i woke up to the sound of rain here. looks like around graydon as well. so interests' a system that's moved in. that's picked up the breeze. some areas, though, you get the sunshine but it'll cloud up later as that low moves right over us. for june 4th, it's pretty impressive, it's arrived, it's here. temperatures will be on the cool side. alan said bone dry dry from 101 north to geyserville exit. some of that rain has made it, although sheila said there's not a cloud in the sky down here in san jose. that will change later on, sheila. some of those getting sun, look at the rain popping up from
6:20 am
lake county, southern mendincino county and sonoma around hopland, 101, from cloverdale, healsburg, windsor and back over into the russian river, graydon, occi and over forestville and just to the west of santa rosa. so it's close. so some of that will play into the morning weather and probably in the afternoon as well we'll start to see this low churning here. it will dive right over the bay area and that's going to give us i think some mostly cloudy skies later on today, get a little afternoon heating, that will certainly help. the low is not going anywhere for a while, it's going to stick in california for a few days. it's on its way to southern california, though. it's ushering in cool air aloft and that's going to translate into cooler temps and a decent breeze here, down right windy for some, temperatures 60s and 70s for many. my computer is a little crazy there, but east to san jose, water temperatures cool off as well. thunderstorms will be apresent as we say up in the sierra, also up in the northern mountains, so mostly sunny, partly cloudy, showers,
6:21 am
thundershowers to the north in the morning and i think the east bay, maybe south bay later on today. below normal temps. temperatures in fact 70s, it should be much, much warmer than this. low and mid-80s by now, but that's not going to be the case. 50s and 60s over by the coast. fog is there, but not as much as we saw the last couple of days. the low is too strong to support it and it's getting too cool inland now. don't usually say that in june, but that's what's happening. so kind of interesting here for the next couple of days. >> so around these parts we need to grab an umbrella. >> i would. it's raining up there right now. >> this is very unusual, definitely. >> all right, steve said it. okay. 6:21. and a dog was sickened after a walk on a trail. coming up in 15 minutes the investigation into a a possible case of poisoning on a popular south bay trail. but, first: [ cheering ] >> yes. a surprise for a utah high school senior, her brother comes back from serving overseas, plus why this graduation day is very important for her family.

6:26 am
it's supposed to be more than 1/4 inch thick. the pipe break is also near where three pipe repairs for corrosion were made back in 2012. so far more than 100 animals have died, dozens more were coated with oil. some of those that survive, they still need medical attention. well, it is a surprise one high school senior from utah will never forget. this story will get you. madison hughes was called on stage during graduation rehearsal to practice receiving an award or at least that's what she thought. [ cheers and applause ] >> that is just an amazing sight. madison broke down when she realized her brother nicholas was presenting the fake certificate. that was a shock because her brother is serving in the military in germany and told her he would not be able to make it to her graduation. >> i didn't know he was going to be here. he told me he wasn't going to be able to come, and, you know, this is the best. i'm so happy right now.

6:33 am
you can exiend of tell, it's a little backlit here at the toll plaza, but it's crowded. the metering lights were switched on extra slow to meter the traffic onto the span and that caused a chain reaction backup. now there's a backup about 30 minutes getting onto the bridge. san mateo bridge would be your alternate. it's not too bad. southbound 880 is a little bit crowded in hayward as you drive down through the 92 interchange. i want to mention that the south bay commute is -- it's serious, not serious, it's okay. northbound 101 there's a crash that's not serious right near the 880 interchange. it's on the shoulder a little bit of slow traffic there. but look at 85 and 280. they're looking pretty good. those are decent alternates into the west valley. 6:33. let's go back to the desk. >> sal, thank you. we have developing news this morning coming in right now from pittsburg. police have sealed off a home where two brothers were shot overnight. one of them has died, the other one was rushed to the hospital. ktvu fox 2's tara moriarty has been out there since we went on the air at 4:00 a.m.

the team is feeling nice and relaxed after this layoff that they had, a week-long break in between games. none of these players have ever been to the nba finals before, but they're feeling good, they're feeling confident. mvp steph curry, he, of course, was banged up with that nasty fall he took in the western conference finals. he's all ready to go. clay thompson took the knee to the head. he's all set to go for game one tonight. and on the other side of the ball, yeah, king james and the cleveland cavs. they were also here in town practicing yesterday, practicing here at the arena. both james and curry, they're going to create some series matchup problems for the conference, no doubt about it. and while oracle is one of the loudest arenas in the nba, king james says he's not worried about the crowd. >> these fans here are amazing, they've been amazing to their team all year and for the last past few years, but for me i don't put too much more added pressure on it. rrn there you go. king james, he does not feel pressure, i don't believe.

theiors, they're ready to do this again. it's been a long drought. they haven't been to the nba finals in four years. the last time they won the title back in '75 when they swept the washington bullets. that year they played the nba finals over at the cal palace across the bay. there was a scheduling issue, a little mixup of some kind, so they couldn't play it here at the arena in oakland. but today the nba finals will be played in the city of oakland for the first time ever. so security obviously will be a very big issue here at oracle arena, and with that being said, i want to bring in sergeant j.d. nelson. he is with the alameda county sheriff's office. and obviously security a major issue. you have a lot of work to do today. what are you doing between now and tipoff today? >> well, we do this in conjunction with the oakland police department. they handle the main portion of this. we dofer the bomb dogs and the bomb squad that comes here for every single nba game, but, of course, it's the playoffs, it's the finals, so we're going to have plenty of people here

the six-inch pipe that broke. crews out here say that it's due to the age of the pipe. now that it's been repaired, crews are filling it in. they still need an asphalt company to come and pave over it. but this is a process that is going to take all day. the water has been turned back on and we haven't gotten a chance to talk to too many neighbors yet, but so far the water company tells us that they haven't had any reports of damage to property. back out here live, you can see this section of piedmont road where crews are working. it's right across the street from noble elementary school. the road is still open, but they have shifted the lanes over just to make room so that these crews can work. and as i mentioned they will be out here for most of the day. so it will probably be a little bit slow going at least along this section of piedmont road. dave. >> all right, janine della vega, thank you, we'll be checking back with you. >> certainly could cause some problems there. >> sure. 6:42 is the time.
