sen 23. new this morning, former florida governor jeb bush says he will officially enter the presidential race on june 15th at an event in miami. this morning in dallas, former texas governor rick perry is scheduled to announce his white house run. he will join the increasingly

crowded field of republican candidates. perry also ran for president in 2012. he says he has been studying up on policy to become a better prepared candidate this time around and his last run of the white house, perry stumbled on in a debate forgetting the name of one of the federalagencies that he wanted to close. a new resident at the white house has ruffled feather. a red tailed hawk has moved just into the residence. smaller birds are not happy about it. he has been attacked by other. a booming population of gray squarely, it is believed, attracted hawk to the area. we now know the name of an american woman killed by a lion at a south african preserve. this is photo of 29-year-old

catherine chapel's linked in page. she worked in the game of thrown as a visual effects specialist. the lion attacked her in a preserve another johannesburg. she hoped the car window to take photos and a lion lunged at her and killed her. visitors are told never to open windows. she had been raising money for the conservation of animals in south africa. cheering on family and friends in mississippi now resulting in arrest warrants. four people say they were removed from the ceremony for cheering and clapping too loudly when their graduate's name was called. now arrest warrants have been issued against them for disturbing the peace. the school superintendent says he issued a notice with being too loud at the ceremony. he says that, over the past several years, some friends and

the sun now, there is an active low. the low cloud deck is mostly confinessed to the san mateo, santa cruz coast. the sonoma and marin is mostly fog-free but there's cloud cover and rain to the north. kathy said it's a beautiful sunny day in napa. hope it stays nice for the graduations today. i do, too. i think this afternoon we'll see cloud cover build up. this is kevin leavey in sausalito. he says oh, dear. i see my shadow. six more weeks of cooler weather. very clever, kevin. moving along relatively well getting up to highway 17. there are no major problems. but it is a little bit slow getting out of downtown. so this is the normal morning commute. you will see slowing on 101 which is worse. 85 is slow as well. i want to show you some slow traffic in the east bay, though. southbound 880 is backed up from 238 as you head down to the fremont area. we had an earlier accident near decota road. the traffic is backed up at the bay bridge because of an earlier crash. it's been gone an hour. the metering lights were on. traffic is very slow, 30, 40 minutes before you make it on the span. back to the desk. 7:33. warrior fans have been waiting 40 years for this day. tonight is game one of the nba finals between the warriors and the cleveland cavaliers. alex savidge is live inside oracle right now where preparations are underway for

[laughter] >> reporter: of course, tori. i will make sure we have a nice view for game one at oracle. as you can see here, it's going to be yellow inside the arena. 19,000 people are gonna pack this place later on tonight. a sellout crowd for game one of the nba finals. warriors and cavs. the warriors, they haven't been to the nba finals in 40 years. it's been a lightning time. a long trout for this team -- drought for the team. they are glad on -- to be back. they are feeling relaxed despite the fact that none of

the guys have been to the finals. steph curry was banged up after that nasty fall. he's feeling better. klay thompson is clear to go after suffering that concussion. on the flip side of things, now we have to deal with king james and the cleveland cavaliers. james and curry, they will create some tough matchups for the defense. these two stars, they have a ton of respect for each other. both players know it's important to keep their composure heading into the finals. >> you do whatever you can to get your mind right. i'm gonna get a hair cut, hang out at the pool near my house, get some sun and get a good night's rest. >> you don't put too much pressure on it. it's a court. it's basketball. it's ten guys on the court. >> reporter: all right. here we go. we dusted off some of the archive footage from ktvu. we pulled some stuff from town

in the basement. this was 197 a, the last time the warriors were in the nba championship -- finals, and of course they swept the washington bullets that year. they played two games at the palace as a matter of fact because of scheduling issues here in oakland. so this will be the first time that an nba finals series will be played here in the city of oakland. let me bring you back out here live. you can see the behind the scenes work going on. obviously it takes a team effort to put on a series like this and you can see a lot of the crew here at oracle, they are getting things cleaned up. they've been getting everything set for steph curry. the splash brothers, le been james, they will be tipping things off. for a game this big, security is important. i want to bring in sergeant nelson with the alameda county sheriff's office. what do you need to do to secure this arena for such an

disruptive and refused to leave. police later discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest. the officers tried to take him into custody but they say they -- he resisted and a fight broke out. the suspect identified as 44- year-old elliott chance was also hurt during the scuffle and was taken to the hospital. 7:39. well, animal control officers in san jose, they arest iting a white powder found on a -- they are testing a white powder found on a trail. a girl was walking her dog oreo when he found a pound of dry cat food. it had cat food on it. the dog eight some of it. he was rushed to the vet. the vet thinks it was rat poison. they think it was maybe put there for the feral population.

>> i'm glad she's safe. emergency workers are at the port of san francisco preparing for an earthquake drill. a little later this morning. ktvu fox 2 reporter brian flores is there live and says emergency responders will be reacting as if a catastrophic quake has hit. they have got a lot to prepare for, brian. >> reporter: yeah, certainly a lot to prepare for. good morning. you can't underestimate the importance of having drills like this. these are individuals with different agencies preaching to -- preparing for the day in terms of the drill that will be taking place later on this morning. i'm here with the director for homeland security. thank you for your time. give us the scenario. what are we looking at in terms of the drill, what's the magnitude of it, what's gonna be the response? >> this is drilling a 7.9 magnitude earthquake on the san

andreas fault. the port is responding. we're standing in the operations center. we are a city agency and so we work with the city. we're sort of the next u.s. where the -- nexus where the all right meets land. we have crews down at the harbor, they will be working on an oil spill and also based on what's happened in previous earthquakes like loma prieta where hundred of people went to the ferry building, we'll be drilling a ferry surge operation there to get people home. after the earthquake, we expect the bridges will be stopped to inspect. mass transit will be stopped and if they find anything and they can't operate again, then the ferries will have to pick up the load to get people out of the city and across the bay. >> how important is it to have this coordination? when an earthquake happens, first responders go, let's get things taken care of. it's important to coordinate for types of incidents like

this. >> it's absolutely critical. none of us have enough equipment and personnel and knowledge to do it ourselves. so knowing each other, drilling like this, we learn what everything can do and we know each other when an event happens. >> we talked about the movie "san andreas." it'sled had. it's brought up an awareness of earthquakes. talk about that and what that movie has done. >> i think so. people get relaxed when they don't have an event for a long time and so i think it's really gotten people to think about what they need to do to prepare and it makes it even more imminent when you see it on screen. we can talk about it, they can do their training but to actually see it in 3-d i think it brings it home that people need to be prepared. >> thank you for your time. the earthquake drill happening all day for most of the day. getting started around 9:00. going on until about 3:30. if you see the boats, that will likely be the drill. but so important to actually drill on certain things like

7:45. we are following new developments out of boston after police shot and killed a terror suspect. cute fox 2's pam cook joins us in the studio with the release of new video and word of another possible target in the case. good morning. >> good morning.

a very high-profile target. the boston police commissioner says the 26-year-old man shot and killed by terror investigators in boston had made remarks that he planned to kill that woman, pamela geller. now, she is the president of the american freedom defense initiative and a conservative blogger in new york who has organized controversial draw mohammed cartoon contests. police say the terror suspect changed his mind and decided to go after police officers instead. new surveillance video has been released as well to muslim leaders after they accused officers of shooting the muslim man in the back while he was just talking on his cell phone. >> the video clearly shows these four or five officers backtracking away from the suspect as he's coming at them. >> the film, the video is inconclusive. i don't think that he was shot in the back by virtue of that. >> the fbi contend the 26-year- old was armed with a knife and

that he lunged at investigators who wanted to question him. agents also say he planned an attack for at least a week and that he bought three fighting knives and a sharpener on or before may 26th and that he discussed his plans with a relative, david wright, who appeared in court yesterday. now, in our next hour of "mornings on 2," we're gonna have more upon the connection that the potential target geller has to the bay area. dave? >> all right, pam. 7:47. back here at home, the oakland city council approved a fire prevention plan. it's fired up a debate about cutting down trees in the east pay hills. council members streeted to accept -- voted to accept a $4 million grant from fema to cut down thousands of nonnative trees. the goal is to prevent another deadly firestorm like the one in 1991. the plan still need an environmental review and also state approval. and there are also two pending lawsuits aimed at blocking the

educate them on that. >> have some fun with it. good morning, everyone. i won't jinx anything. let's get to the game. we'll start with 880 in oakland. traffic is moving well in both directions here. but northbound is beginning to slow down a little bit approaching high street. it stays that way up until 23rd. southbound 880 will be busy. i will show you that in a moment. but i want to show you the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up big time. it was a minor accident on the bridge an hour and a half ago. it was cleared quickly but the metering lights went extra slow. we have a 30, 40-minute delay before you make it on the span. southbound 880 all of a sudden, we have had bad commuting into fremont. let's go to steve with today's forecast. plenty going on. some areas have sunshine. it's beautiful. others cloudy and even been some rain. a little chill in the morning air, especially some of the higher elevations. 40s for lows. i mean it's a cool pattern for

june 4th. doesn't look rather ominous here. we had thunder. i think it will pick up the later. infor some. this is a. wallace from the park side in san francisco at 7:30 in the morning. and then jared higgins said there's low clouds. some shower activity. not a lot. but there's been a little bit around ukiah into lake county. it looks like that's been cleared off. some of that did dip into the russian area. you can see heading towards highway 1 going from northeast back to the ocean. had a little bit around sebastopol. there's clouds to the north. 50s on the temps. a couple of 40s. livermore, 57. and joe owen says steve thanks for holding off the heat in livermore for a few more days. no kidding. this is about as cool as it will get. decent breeze for some.

they say a former cellmate trying to win favor with prosecutors made up the story that he confessed to killing leavey. prosecutors have dropped their opposition to a defense request for a new trial. leavey was a 24-year-old intern from modesto who disappeared while jogging in washington, d.c. park in 2001. investigators first suspected and then cleared a married congressman, gary condit, who represented part of the peninsula and who also had an affair with leavey. they suspected at first that he had killed her. >> that's a fascinating new development, tori. the colorado movie theater shooting trial continues one day after a very unexpected request by the gunman's lawyer. >> at this time, the defense moves for a mistrial. >> let me stop you there. this new argument is untimely. >> now, the defense asked for a mistrial because of a chilling 22-hour video shown to the jury over the past week. it showed a court-appointed see kye drift interviewing the --

psychiatrist interviewing the gunman, james holmes. of the defense argued parts where holmes describe the shootings violate his constitutional rights. the judge disagreeded with that and he was very frustrated clearly. he says the defense should have made the mistrial request last week before that evidence was presented. >> you can't have it both ways. you can't say, well, if we like what an expert end up saying or if we like the evaluation, it's okay for the expert to talk to our client. but if we don't like it or don't think it's favorable, then we're going to object to it. >> the court-appointed psychiatrist said he determined holmes was legally sane when he killed 12 people and injured 7 others. the defense is -- 70 others. the defense is expected to begin cross-examination today. a deadly shooting in pittsburg is under investigation. we're live at the house where one family member says the

8 5. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. we begin with a developing story this morning in contra costa county. investigators are trying to figure out why someone would shoot two brothers at a home in pittsburg. tara moriarty is at the house where she's just received new information about this double shooting. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. that's right. sources tell me that there were several rounds that were fired inside of the home. two brothers were shot, one killed. we just learned that two children as well as another adult were inside of that home during the time of the shooting. if you look behind me, you can see detectives are still on the driveway of the home off saint ma ritz drive. the suspect entered the home. two brothers were shot. one killed. the other wounded in the leg. investigators have been in and out of the home gathering evidence. they seized a car and they are

looking at whether drugs or gangs were involved. >> it appears that the -- one of the victims in this was the target of the shooting. there was some sort of altercation that occurred outside of the residence which led into the residence where the shooting actually occurred. >> reporter: the only description we have of the victims is that they are in their 30s an latino. family members were too distraught to talk to to us on camera. a dog was out here trying to pick up the scent of the suspect earlier. the csi van is out here. officers have brought in the perimeter of this crime scene and they have been scouring the ground looking for any additional clues. live from pittsburg, back to you. 8:05. eastbound highway 4 at 680 is open again following a police standoff last night. chp says around 11:30, vallejo police started chasing a

even today. we had rain coming in. it looks like it tailed off. the low clouds kind of clearing off the coast, heading down the coast, i should say. but later today, i think there's gonna be pretty good buildups. a wrong strong system has moved into northern california. it will pass close toeferrer is. it's picked up the breeze. westerly or southerly in the santa clara valley. there's the system. all systems go for the sierra nevada. we had a little bit of that rain wrapping back around from the north, actually from redding, red bluff into mendocino county, lake county. that tailed off. things are quiet right now. had a couple of reports of thunder, light rain, even along the sonoma coast along highway 1. you can see where the source is coming in. as the low begins to take the track to the south. it will increase cloud cover. the whole system is carving itself out to probably saturday night or sunday. then it will start to eject out of here. some 60s but a lot of 50s. ceremonies are on the cool side. there will be a -- temperatures are on the cool side. there will be a breeze.

again, several agencies taking part in this drill like port officials, department of fish and wildlife, the coast guard, police and fire out here as well. some of the drill include what happens when the big one hits, after a quake, the ferries are closed because of possible tsunami warnings. they are also gonna re-create an influx of people that may go into the ferry building after an eark. we saw that after the 1989 loma prieta earthquake. but officials say it's critical to coordinate the response. they credit the movie "san andreas" for getting people aware. >> if they are along the waterfront, they need to get away from the water. the one thick that the movie highlighted was the fact that you no he when a tsunami is come -- you know when a tsunami is coming. you can see the water coming. get away from it. don't go to watch it. get away from it. >> reporter: another aspect of this drill taking place through most of the day, drivers will be in the water inspecting

a man convicted of killing chandra levy 14 years ago has just been granted a new trial. he received a 60-year prison sentence after being found guilty of killing her. but defense lawyers have been arguing that his conviction was based on a lie. they say a former cellmate trying to win favor with prosecutors made up the story that he had confessed to killing levy. she was a 24-year-old intern who disappeared while jowging in a washington, d.c. park in 2001 -- jogging in a

follow this ongoing investigation. but as you mentioned, sound like we'll get more and more details as this case progresses. >> thank you, pam. 8:46. the colorado movie theater shooting trial continues one day after an unexpected request by the gunman's lawyers. >> at this time, the defense moves for a mistrial. >> let me some you there. this new argument is untimely. it should have been made before -- >> the defense asked for a mistrial because of a chilling 22-hour video shown to the jury over the past week. it shows a court-appointed psychiatrist interviewing gunman james holmes. the defense argued that the parts where holmes described the shootings violate his constitutional rights but the judge disagreed and was clearly frustrated. he said the defense should have made the mistrial request last week before the evidence was presented.

doing very well. if you could put off your commute through here, if you have to, if you have the luxe, it would be best for you. let's go to steve. we do have mostly sunny, partly cloudy skies. low clouds going down the coast getting chewed up. low pressure system has moved in. it will head over us later today. still low clouds around. plenty of breaks in the clouds. mendocino county, lake county, northern sonoma, looks like most of that has tailed off but there's the low. thunderstorms will pop up in the sierra later today. i think we'll see pretty good buildups in the clouds. see how the low cloud deck is getting chewed up. still some clouds up around highway 1 around -- north of bodega bay. 50s and 60s on the tells -- temperatures. the nights are so short to get 40s. there is a little bit of a breeze. san jose has a southeast breeze coming up the slar valley. you can see some of that fog

which is thick. i expect that to get chewed up and the cloud cover will begin to burn up later. possible my friend said what happened to yesterday's hurricane south of cabo? it's now a category 2. yesterday it was a 4. it's barely moving, northwest at 3 miles an hour. that's it. it has decreased in intensity. now, it's still feeding off very warm water. have to keep an eye on that. cloud, showers up in the sierra for us over the next couple of days. that will continue. but by next week a piece of that low-pressure system will hang back and as that moisture moves north, it may tap into that. some of that may work its way into southern central and a lot has to happen. early next week could get interesting. before that might get a quick warmup on sunday, monday. a lot going on for june. partly cloudy. mostly sunny in the morning but cloud build up in the afternoon. below normal temperatures.
