wearing a helmet. >> >> >> we apologize. this is not related to the story. we want to tell you more about this accident. there were no safety lights on the bike and it didn't have brakes. there was a bike event earlier in the night but it's not clear if the bicyclist was part of that a 3-year-old who was kidnapped is back his family because of the help of a vta driver. >> the bus driver is a hero. o >> investigators believe alfonso eddington took the boy from the library. he then got on a bus with the child heading toward the bart station. the bus driver said he realized the young boy i fit the description of an aalert that was sent out by his dispatch. >> i pulled over and hit the brake and i said i'm looking for a green backpack. once i learned it was a

kidnapping it really hit. i broke down. >> eddington is in custody. the 3-year-old appeared to be unhurt. the sheriff has released a sketch of a man they say groped two women walking on a trail. they hope someone may recognize the man. he is described as 20 to 30. about 5'7'' with olive skin and a medium build. investigators say both of the attacks happened on monday on the walking which is just north of half moon bay. they say the first incident happened at seven in the morning the second was reported just after six at night. the president is leading ayodele gaze to delaware this morning for the funeral of beau biden. the eldest son of the vice president. he died last week from brain cancer at the age of 46 a mass is scheduled to start? just about 25 minutes. this is a live picture from inside the church. its being held at saint

buildings in the city. tenants say they had access blocked to mailboxes and the disabled are targeted. >> she is torturing these tenants very bad and illegal behavior with -- improper evictions. with harassment. the lawsuit also claims she has interrupted gas, electric, water and cable service and installed video surveillance cameras aimed at resident's front doors. we tried to contact her but she didn't return calls. santa clara is hosting a gun buy back today. it'll run between eight and noon in san jose. people will be able to hand over their guns, no questions asked. gun owners will be offered $100 for hand guns. the governor is praising santa clara county residents for doing their part to meet the water conservation goal. he talked about it -- water

district officials say the county met the state's goal of cutting water use by 25% in april. the governor said he importants efforts to recycle toilet water into driving water. >> whatever we can do to facilitate, reclaiming and reusing water we are for. if we can help with more standards i will push that very hard. the governor is expected to visit southern california next week also to talk about the drought. new water restrictions set to take effect in vallejo next week. they said water customers are on target to meet their goal of a 16% reduction in water use. so far water use dropped by 12%. the additional water restrictions are set to take effect on thursday. the new restrictions ban the use of drinking water in fountains or other water features and limits watering lawns by property addresses, even can water on monday, wednesday and friday, road can

bart. i decided to take the light- rail and j church. i love the view from delores park but the sign put me on the wrong light-rail vehicle and i went on the k and had to take bart. i think that was my one glitch. i asked the -- do you think supervisors and the mayor, do you think you are out of touch and what do you think at the end of the day will be -- the benefit of this challenge? >> i think we are -- out of touch to what the daily grind is for muni riders, what it's like to ride muni every day. we are preparing straightening the roads. all those things ways we are

working and we know those are things we have to do to improve the system and that way we aren't out of touch. those are things we should be aware of and that's what it helps us with. >> thank you so much for joining us. city officials say safety improvements have been made at an intersection where a driver was killed in february when she was stuck on the train tracks. the changes are at ravens wood avenue. this week the city instaled temporary turn restrictions. drivers can no longer turn from ravenswood onto southbound alma or across the barrier installed. >> the intent is to prevent queing on the railroad tracks. and changes may mean detours of up to a mile for

it's the end of the line for a controversial late night ride service for state senators. senate president said he has ordered the rides to stop. last week reports came up that the state senate had hired two part time drivers who would pick up state senators around sacramento when they call. critics say it was a thinly hidden program to give them a

warming trend. thank you. thank >> thank you. a funeral mass is being held for beau biden >> this is being held at a roman catholic church in wilmington delaware. the president is expected to give the eulogy and there are several people attending this -- this funeral mass. >> yeah. the first lady, also hillary clinton and former president bill clinton as well as the chicago mayor. >> beau biden died last week from brain cancer. he was only 46. he had a series of health problems throughout his life. he had a minor stroke at one point. certainly very sad. he was planning to run for governor at one point. certainly difficult time for the biden family. >> biden also served in iraq, also the attorney general of delaware and wanted to be that next governor of the state there.

it started monday and several supervisors have been tweeting about their experience. we talked to john to see how it's going. he told us he has been on muni every day and said it's given him a better idea of what riders face. in menlo park safety improvements have been made where a driver was killed when her suv got stuck on the train tracks. the changes are at ravens wood avenue where it crosses the caltrain tracks. drivers can no longer turn from ravens wood the intent it to prevent lining up on the railroad tracks and prevent collisions with the train. the changes naming detours of up to a mile for some drivers. >> little challenging because if you want to make a turn. i have seen cars by habit want to turn in there and they stop

and block traffic and that defeats the purpose and then cars back up under the train tracks. police have started issuing warnings and tickets for people illegally going around the new barriers . it'll be a six month trial. >> saw people in oakland celebrated first friday with a protest against a new band on nighttime demonstrations. about 450 people who use the hash tag break the curfew met a couple of police officers watched but the demonstration ended peacefully. this is not the first time people have gathered against the new policy by oakland mayor. dozens gathered a couple of weeks ago when the proposal was first announced. the mayor's approach attempts to keep people after the sidewalks and off the streets after dark but protesters say the policy is similar to a curfew and that oakland is becoming a police state. san francisco city attorney's officeo has filed a lawsuit against a landlord accused of harassing and bullying tenants their rent controlled homes.

the defendant is anna -- she and partners own ten apartment buildings in the city. tenants say she has blocked access to mailboxes, garages and laundry facilities and targets elderly or disabled tenants. >> she is absolutely torturing these tenants. cold violations. harassment of her tenants. the lawsuit claims she has interrupted gas, electric, water and installed video cable systems. we tried contacts her but she didn't return our calls. we are learning more about what kind of personal information was taken by hacker who targeted united states government computers. the fbi is investigating the breach that compromised the investigation of more than 4 million current and former federal workers. security clearance information and background checks was among the data stolen.

bike with no brakes. there was a bike event in the city earlier in the evening but it is unclear if that bicyclist was part of the event. here is a sketch of a man police say groped two women walking on a trail. he is 20 to 30 years old, 5'7", olive skin and a medium build. investigators say both incidents happened on monday on the more are doe west walking trail north of half moon bay in the mere mar area. the first incident happened at 7:00 in the morning and the second one happened shortly before 6:00 at night.

. well, we just received an update on the condition of a woman hit by a baseball bat at an a's game in boston. this happened at yesterday's game at fenway. part of a bat flew into the stands and shattered and hit a woman in the face who was

terminal people. kwan lee has hung cancer. >> i like to take care of people. >> reporter: when we met her family in 2011 we learned she had one year to live. >> at that time i was shocked. i didn't think i would get lung cancer because i never smoke ed. >> reporter: -- never smoked. >> reporter: she was recording a video that her three children could watch years later. >> i did everything i could to fight, to be there for them. >> reporter: but she has outlived her prognosis by three years. >> i am so grateful for that. it is due to a great team of doctors. >> reporter: and experimental cancer treatments. the happy couple ten years ago started a family that is all here together. this added profound new meaning to that you are vows. >> it is an amazing journey.

individual was wearing. >> reporter: how long does cabos need to smell the gauze? >> a second. >> reporter: that is it? that is all it takes? >> yes. so you put it inside the jacket that the person is wearing. >> reporter: okay. let's see if he can find sammy out there. he is going with a jacket, an article of clothing. he went right to it. he indicated that is the person we are looking for. >> by laying down. >> reporter: the training of the dogs is how long? >> it takes about two years to get your first dog ready. a lot of it is training of the handlers and what to do and where to go. >> reporter: now what is cabos going? she is trying to find where the person is. she went past it. now she found something in the trunk. >> reporter: there is sammy.

>> you saw she went a little past the car and then she came back and found him. >> reporter: what is the biggest challenge right now for someone like cabos? that was done in 45 seconds. >> yes. >> reporter: when you are out on the scene, what is the challenge? >> in urban environments it contamination from different scents. asphalt is known to be harder to work with because the scent won't stay as long. and wilderness environments have a lot of exchanges in the terrain. so, weather is an impact on us. terrain features and how long the person has been missing is a big impact. this is a fresh trail. >> reporter: this is one of the biggest operations in the nation, doing what you do. >> yes. >> reporter: do you get called out a lot? >> yes. we get called out about three times a month lately. it varies. it ebbs and flows with how much

breezes, at about 20 miles per hour over fairfield. it is continuing to bring in cool pacific air, but it will taper off a bit. as we get into the afternoon the only area we will really feel the cool seabreeze is along the coastline. cool for the coast. mild to warm by the bay and very warm for inland cities. at this hour 55 at half moon bay. 58 in san francisco. 63 in redwood city and 64 in mountain view. 69 in some areas of long creek, 64 in concord and 65 in livermore and fairfield. we will take a look at a few more numbers here with antioch 63, 66 in pittsburg and 64 in lafayette and danville. temperatures similar to yesterday. slightly warmer for some and a bigger bounce in the second part of the weekend. i will those numbers for you coming up in a bit. claudine? >> thank you, rosemary.

dozens of people are out on lake merritt learning how to row, all part of the lake merritt rowing club. allie, i know you were out on the water. now you are back on land. looks like things are getting busy out there. >> reporter: yes. lake merritt rowing club is part of this event. it is getting busy out here. other rowing clubs around the country are participating in this event as well since it is national learn to row day. here they are hosting a free rowing clinic from 9:00 to 2:00. here we have people just starting their free rowing clinics. you have never done this before? >> i have done this before, no. i walk the lake and i see them all the time. it is great. >> reporter: what made you decide to come out? >> about 10 to 12 years ago my daughter came and took a summer

rowing clinic and my daughter adored it. it was cool. >> once you finish with the rowing machines the next step is getting a tour. >> reporter: are you excited for that? >> i am very excited. >> reporter: thank you. and also, tom, you are the president of the lake merritt rowing club. you are taking a lot of people out here for learning to row day. how many people do you think are here? >> i think a couple hundred people will come through. i am not sure. there are a regular stream of boats going out on the water. you can see there is a boat that just launched. >> reporter: so, these are novice, people are just starting to learn? >> that is right. there are two experienced rowers in each boat but the rest are going out for the first time. >> reporter: how do you convince people to come out and try this? there may be misconceptions about the sport of rowing. >> that is true. there can be misconceptions but we try to appeal to a diverse audience and the summer program

is a major part of that. it is probably the most diverse program where we have kids from age 12 to 18 that come out for a week long class. >> reporter: that is something that parents may be alonging for a camp this summer may -- may be looking for a camp this summer may want to come check out. and you have scholarship, too? >> yes. we do have scholarships, and it is a great experience. we encourage everybody to come out and try it. >> reporter: thank you, tom. the free rowing clinics here at lake merritt are from 9:00 to 2:00. you have to come sign up for it but no prior experience necessary. i was out on the water this morning, earlier this morning. i had never done this before. you get a lot of good guidance here and there are a lot of good people here to show you the ropes. >> what was the toughest part, allie? maybe the timing with all the people? >> reporter: the toughest part is the timing and also talking through the live shots while i

demonstrations. protestors say the demonstrations are similar to a curfew. city supervisors and mayor he had lee are taking part on -- ed lee are taking part in a challenge to ride muni for 22 day, challenged by the transit rider's union. we have more on how this is all going. mayor lee says he has been commuting a few times a day since the challenge starts and is getting a better idea of what people face everyday on the muni system. a woman's suv got stuck on tracks and the incident has now prompted changes on ravenswood avenue off of he will rial. drivers can no longer turn from ravenswood to southbound alma or cross the median barrier there. >> the attempt is to prevent

collisions on railroad tracks with vehicles. >> it could mean detours for up to a mile for drivers. >> it is challenging. if you want to make a turn, i have seen cars by habit want to turn. then they stop and block traffic. it defeats the purpose and things back up at the train tracks. >> the city says this will be a six month trial, after which they will study the data and determine if the changes should be kept in place. hundreds of people have teemed up for a community -- teamed up for a community problem that will bring 200,000 people in need the help they seek. more on that story, coming up.

. what a beautiful view there. good morning, san jose. mostly blue skies and plenty of sunshine around the bay and along the coast. we are still waiting on the sunshine along the coast. not going to see much of it today. we are into a warm up for the bay area weekend. this is a live look here over the berkeley area and the aquatic center. along the east bay shoreline we continue with gray skies. mostly cloudy to mostly sunny skies for the morning but along the coast we will remain mostly drey. upper 50s in -- gray. upper 50s in san francisco. oakland is 65 and low 60s in san jose. we are continuing to watch this system that is slowly moving off to the east over the last few days into the afternoons. it has helped provide the thunderstorms and showers over areas of the sierra as well as the central valley. you may notice a build up

happening over our hills in the afternoons, as well. it will continue to push east, but there will be another round of showers in the forecast for the sierra. if you are going to tahoe for the weekend be prepared for that. here at home we have low 60s at the coastline with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. our inland city will be warming up again with hotter locations in the 80s. i think today will be a lot like yesterday, then a bigger warm up coming by sunday. sunday to monday temperatures continue to climb. monday and tuesday look to be the hottest days with inland areas reaching to the 90s. if you are been waiting for the heat, it is on the way. on the future-cast model through saturday, mostly cloudy skies sticking around for the entire day. areas of pacifica, half-moon day and small communities inbetween -- half moon bay and small communities inbetween, you will be seeing afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the sierra. the showers will be going away

for the second part of the weekend for the tahoe area. here at home, meanwhile in the afternoon 74 for san rafael, 66 in sausalito. if you like the head head inland. upper 80s in clear lake. 77 in napa. 74 for vallejo and mid to upper 80s for fairfield. mid 70s in oakland and castro valley. there is a 84-degree high for danville. 86 in livermore. 77 in san jose. upper 70s in cupertino. beautiful weather in the forecast for the peninsula, as well. 75 for palo alto, mid 70s in redwood city. the county fair will have great weather. 64 in san francisco and low 60s and cloudy at half moon bay.
