welcome to this special edition of sports wrap. i'm mark ibanez. >> and i'm joe fonzi. >> this show wasn't the show we had planned for you when we cooked up this idea of running a special half hour on the warriors after game two but as it is you didn't think it was going to be easy right and you know the warriors i think right now some where charles barkley is smiling with his continuous comments about you can't win
11:01 pm
championships with just jump shooting. but you know what the thing that's sort of frustrating is this game was there for the taking. if the warriors just chewed a sub parred game instead of a terrible game they shot. you have to think their defense kept them in it which is what they've done consistently all year. if they continue to do that and just shoot a little better you have to like their chances but this was not a good one today. >> this is the first time in cavs history that they've ever won an nba final game. they had recently gotten swept by san antonio and losing the first game. warrior fans are just not used to losing games in front of their eyes and that's what happened. we will discuss that. we have scott reiss who was in the warriors locker room. he will give us the view from there, what the mood was as they head to game three and four in cleveland and we have matt simons with us and we will talk about what the
11:02 pm
warriors have to do to try to get cleveland to stop dictating what they have to do here. >> four times is the number of times the warriors have lost on the half court. you mentioned cleveland. those guys are pretty hungry there. 1964 the cleveland browns the last time that city had a championship of any kind. so when we go back there it's going to be very interesting to see. >> i was listening to it, this is like a mud fight. neither team you know hitting their shots percentages very low all over the place. let's just touch play and go and tell you how the first quarter started. the warriors wanted to get off to a better start and they kind of did. clay thompson off there. thompson by the way had 34 points to lead the warriors but he was only four of 12. shooting a guy who didn't get into the offense but mixed it
11:03 pm
all was bogut and had exactly seven basketting. - - baskets. and he rebounds it pretty well. that guy lebron starts to rear his head. he had 10 of the cavs first 10 points. you talk about the warriors trying to get to a better start. they did get off to a better start but closing the quarters the cavs score 18 points and 20 points in a quarter is just ridiculous low for golden state when you think about what we're used to seeing when it comes to the regular season. >> i don't think there's another force in the nba like lebron james. every possession seems to go for him he played 60 minutes tonight. he said he could only go about 48. he didn't go 48 he went 50. i don't think there's a force like him in the league where every possession seems to go
11:04 pm
through him. >> you're watching that game to me early on we will check with matt scott as they were watching it. i saw a lebron james who seemed to be trying to get the other guys into the mix. it almost seemed like he was pacing himself in that first quarter because he was so dominant in game one seemed like he touched the ball in every possession. this time around he seemed to be trying to force the other guys to hey you guys take a shot or two. >> the other thing he did and we talked about how steph curry has done that at times just seemed to will your team to in this case a win. but bring them along. i'm just going to not let us not win. you get that feeling when lebron james is on. second quarter, 20-20. very low scoring. lebron doing everything from the oud. he pops the three. as you well know by now,
11:05 pm
players getting into the action. and he find jones in the corner knocking it down. and the cavaliers begin to assert themselves quite forcibly in the second quarter. thompson after picking up two quick outs in the first quarter is back in. the quick release, got it to go. the long two there. and at halftime the warriors and cavs separated just a little bit. a bucket it was 47-45 as you see the warriors head into the locker room and certainly not overly pleased by their play again in the first half at home. but still very much in the game. >> then they're saying that mentality that we didn't play that well and we're close. and we come back to the defense and we've been hearing that but that is the thing that makes these guys different then maybe
11:06 pm
that team that charles barkley likes to think about. and that's the thing the warriors do. >> it's very different than what we've seen in these first two games than what we had seen during the regular season. warrior fans are used to this team just sprinting out. getting that on breaks. building up the big lead. it's one of those things when they're anticipating it coming and it just won't. from the sound of it after the game. steve kerr doesn't think it may happen at all in the series. have a listen. >> tough game. great defensive team. both teams i think defended like crazy out there. it's a grind out kind of old school game. and, you know that's, that's the style that it's you know it's going to be. and when you get this deep into the play offs, it's rarely a track meet. all right we're way deep into these play offs. scott reiss was out at the game tonight. was in the locker room. warrior fans you have reason to

> what's up lebron. >> what's up kerr. congrats, congrats. you're a team player, i'm a team player. a little insight into what's going on down on the court. nobody said it was going to be easy. this thing is going back to cleveland. >> it's the nba finals. it's not supposed to be easy. but i think the interesting thing right now in this game was the way that the cavaliers were able to dictate the kind of personality and pace of this game. and maybe that changes if the warriors are shooting a little bit better. you heard what chris said. if they're shooting better they might be able to tempo it a little better. and let's find out how it
11:10 pm
unraveled in the second half. third quarter, i'm sure the warriors are going to shoot. going to the baseline and bull his way to the bucket in off glass. watch it again. green doing everything he can to make it to the baseline not going to work. the guy also has top of the line passing skills. bullet, cross court. on the money. jr smith who had his moments on the negative side threads the three there though. and the cavs seem to control this thing but toward the end of the third. the warriors mount a threat. momentum going. look at this play to end the third quarter. open court, that cannot happen, how do you miss a slam dunk. and the warriors instead of
11:11 pm
being within one point is all kind of physicality and rough down the stretch there at the end of the third. the warriors instead of being down only a point are trailing 62-59 after three. and get this. the warriors score only 14 points in that third quarter. that's terrible. but the cavs scored 15. so i mean they weren't exactly lighting it up either. >> i was watching in game one how lebron james was getting in many cases the super star treatment. there were several times today where they were letting them play when you thought lebron james would have been getting to the line if he's getting that kind of treatment but they weren't letting that happen. >> how lebron tpwot clumpering -- lebron got clobbered a couple of times.
11:12 pm
they were letting them play. despite that blunder. just not going to go for the warriors tonight. nothing seemed to go. lebron had 39 points. the three right there. had the cavs up 11. he's pumped up and you're thinking that was the dagger but no. they would get the mini version of it. he hit the three but he had only two all night long. that's just not him. golden state is iguodala finding harrison out there barns will put it down. not only that he's fouled. three point play, 1:23 left in the game. a little later on, warriors trying to pull even. under 10 seconds. curry the hoop and he hits it 7.2 seconds left. we're tied at 87-87 and you're thinking they have all the
11:13 pm
momentum going to overtime if they can get there because the cavs still have one more shot. like he did in game one. lebron will have another crack at winning the game for the cavs. this time he decides to drive. doesn't get called and he misses the shot. so there you go. we're going to overtime. absolutely exhilarating and you think the warriors are going to have that momentum and just crashes in. it didn't work out that way. >> i think they felt that. they felt they had the momentum at this point. they had been there in game one and they felt like they were going to grab the game at that point. >> no one in overtime lit it up. i told you if the cavaliers were going to make one basket in overtime. you figure golden state has it wrapped up. >> it was the end of scratch and glob for every point. the warriors got off to a bad start in the overtime as we
11:14 pm
press play and go and take a look at the overtime highlights. matt simons will tell us in a moment. but he gets his first bucket of the game. he wound up with 10 points and 10 rebounds. warriors are within three. again the warriors try and make it happen here. down by a point he draws the foul. he thinks it's a three point shot however the replay clearly indicates he will get two shots and he will make them. warriors go up one. but the cars hustling. after a miss here that looked like the warriors might win the ball game but matthew delavadova is fouled and he will calmly hit the three free throws. clay thompson didn't block out. curry draws a blank. complete air ball when do you see that? i don't remember. to tell you the truth he's such
11:15 pm
an incredible shooter and it was just not his night. >> lebron made one of two free throws. warriors have a long shot at it but they turn the ball over and that is it. lebron infatically throwing the ball down. our scott reiss was in the locker room after the game. scott not what we're used to seeing from the warriors as a team. but individually, steph curry maybe the worse game of the year. >> not maybe, it was his worse game. he's clutch as they come but tonight for whatever reason he just could not find it. curry actually broke a record missing 14 threes in an nba final game. including two of 15 from beyond the arch. his work game dating back to
11:16 pm
february of 2014. bad timing for sure but sometimes the ball just doesn't go in. even for the mvp. >> shots i normally made. i knew once they left the hand this usually doesn't happen. mechanically, they just didn't have the rhythm. >> he's the mvp you expect him to make them but everybody misses a shot every now and then. and he was having a bad night. >> we're going to ride with him and i mean, you know everybody had an off night. you know he did other things to help us win the game and to put us in the position to help us win the game. >> we're going to live with him shooting if he has a tough night for the rest of the season then he has a tough night. but nobody is looking for him to stop shooting. >> i'm not going to let one game alter my confidence. i know as a team we're not
11:17 pm
going to let one game alter our belief that we're going to win the series. >> of course we can't forget curry did hit that game tieing lay up to send it into overtime. mark and joe as the guys said wasn't his night. >> scott you were in the locker room after the game. it was such an atypical performance not only from curry but for the team itself. the mood in there. did you feel a vibe in there. >> they don't lose when they come back after 11 down. the fans stunned silence. but inside the locker room even keel. confidence not waning. they can't shoot the ball less amazingly than tonight and they still came back from being down
11:18 pm
11:20 pm
stay focused, got to stay locked. be disciplined. >> we have to come out and be the aggressor on both ends. play with a sense of fire. >> i love that sound in the locker room giving you a little extra insight. we welcome you back to the special nba finals edition of sports wrap. joe get us introduced to our guest. >> let's introduce matt steinmetz right now. you can run them down better than i can undoubtedly. >> i just like basketball. i'm a basketball game and i will talk about the game. >> as long as i can remember you've been there for several
11:21 pm
different entities. >> don't date me too much. >> look who you're talking to. it would have been very easy with irving out. everybody would have assumed it's going to be easy now. if there was a game when they willed themselves to win it was tonight. >> tonight it was all about lebron james. the way the warriors played offense which i thought was pretty terrible. the one thing that gets the warriors into trouble is when they take shots, the quick threes. i think that happened way too fast tonight. they were eight for 35 from three point game. the stat to me that blows me away is the cavaliers shot and 38% and won the game.
11:22 pm
throughout the season the warriors have seen all kind of defense thrown at them. now that the season is over, the way to beat the warriors is play them man to man. try to take a chance that someone can control steph curry. i don't think -- is known for that. >> he did something right to say the least. let's hear what the st. mary's product had to say. >> as a team we have a collective confidence that we can still win.
11:23 pm
and still get the job done i think we developed that at the end of the chicago series and atlanta series. i think we have good cohesiveness on offense and especially on the defensive end. >> it had everything to do with deli. you know he just, he kept a body on steph. he made steph work. and he was spectacular. defensively and you know, you know we needed everything from him. >> when you have lebron saying that. it's all about deli. you have it. we have more with matt steinmentz as we break down the defeat to even out the series. going back to cleveland. we have more in a moment.
11:26 pm
series all even 1-1. going back for games three and four in cleveland. matt steinmentz with us. i think the top of the headline is going to be something about curry tonight. i don't think we're used to see this. >> no i think he played his worse game of the season. not just shooting the ball but he had six turnovers and he seemed to be rushing his shots. i tell you what keep an eye on, remember when he had the bad ball against houston in game four. since that point he's only seven for 32. maybe it's a coincidence. >> interesting. tonight two of 15 from three. >> what i don't like is the percentage of his shots were threes. that tells me you know he was one dimensional tonight. he's better when he does a little bit of everything. >> let me just ask you about the complex of this whole thing that during the regular season
11:27 pm
you don't see teams back to back. now potentially you can see a team seven straight times. how different is that and as we heard scott say the warrior players say. nobody is worried. they know they're going to make adjustments. how much is it to get the up tempo. >> once you see cleveland play. you realize how far they shoot the ball from. they take the step out. >> sorry to catch you out -- >> no that's all right. >> that's tv time it goes quick. three and four in cleveland tuesday and thursday night. thanks for being with us, everybody. have a great night.

(high-pitched voice) oh! oh! (normal voice) so good! it is so good! - oh! - for the last few months, cam and i have been redoing a house together that we're gonna flip, and i have to say, it has been goin' great! we make an amazing team. - yeah. the key is trust. - absolutely. the key is, i let claire think she's in charge. i hide what i want in something bigger and more expensive. then when she rejects that we "compromise" on what i wanted all along. i call my method "the trojan horse." you know how i got lily? i asked mitchell for triplets.
