the warriors were able to pull away despite the fact that lebron james turned in a tie na might performance. 40 points. another triple-double in these nab finals. but the warriors got the w. 104- 98. now the focus is on trying to close out the cavs. >> we fought hard all year and put ourselves in good position to go to cleveland and close it out. we're confident, we're not getting ahead of ourselves. the locker room, if you walked in, was the exact same as the regular season win. >> the closeout game is always the hardest game in every series but particularly in the finals. what i'm excited about i think we can play better. i think we can do much better. >> reporter: a bit of a scare after the game. steph curry left the postgame news conference feeling a bit

attack. happening today, san francisco police staffing, it will be talked about at a board of supervisors committee meeting. there are 1700 san francisco police officers right now. but a resolution calls for at least 2200. a new city report shows police staffing levels are less than nine other cities of the same size of san francisco. now, police chief greg suhr warrants to put more officers on the streets. but critics are worried about the cost. one police officer cost $175,000 a year in salary and benefits. 7:08. as the supreme court's current term draws to a close, the justices have some pretty big issues on their plate. the most anticipated ruling, of course, is on same-sex marriage. the court will decide whether gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry or whether state bans against

same-sex marriage can stay in place. this ruling is likely to come on the's last day, june -- on the term's last day, june 29th or 30th. and the future of president obama's healthcare law. at issue is the legality of the federal subsidies relied upon by 6 million people in 34 states that did not create their own marketplaces. the justices have to decide whether the law prohibits that financial aid. california will not be affected by this ruling. it's important to mention as covered california is the marketplace in our state. whether the epa can continue to require coal and oil fired power plants to reduce emissions. housing discrimination. the court will look at the fair housing act and that

questions whether minority groups can file lawsuits by claiming these practices have an unfair impact on minorities and a death penalty states whether states can tuesday a particular sedative as part of the three-drug cocktail used. oakland streets will get a much-needed band-aid. starting today, crews will begin a seven-week pothole blitz. brian flores is live in oakland to tell us how people can get their streets fixed. a lot of people would want that. >> reporter: a lot of people do. no question about that. no question that oakland streets need work. something the mayor says is one of her priorities. starting today, city work crews will be patching up many of these potholes like these one here at jack london square. the city is calling is a pothole blitz. according to the 2013 pavement

condition index which measures street conditions nationwide, oakland streets were ranked near the bottom of bay area cities. there are approximately 1900 miles in the city that needs to be maintained. the issue is funding. the backlog of streets in oakland in need of repair amounts to $440 million. that number continues to grow. city officials say there's not enough money to resurface the roads so crews are left to do patch work to do mine arpotholes -- maynor potholes -- minor potholes. during this pothole blitz, oakland residents are encouraged to contact the public works department either by calling them or e-mailing them or by using an app on your smartphone. it's called c click fix. you can take a picture and report it to oakland public works that way as well. back to you. >> don't we all know that

it's 7:14. an 18-month-old boy rescued by police after he was allegedly kidnapped on saturday by his estranged mother in sunnyvale, he's still in the hospital. now, police say the child was taken by his mother 20-year-old cristina roz regez from -- rodriguez from his grandmother's home. the mother was arrested on child abduction and conspiracy. the baby doesn't appear to be hurt. but he was taken to a hospital as a precaution. well, one of the women involved in a big fight at a walmart store in indiana is now facing charges but not for the fight. that incident captured on cell phone video posted on youtube all over the place. amber stevenson, one of the women in the video, says the fight started after she heard rebecca mills in a motorized zooter use a racial slur against a store employee. stevenson said she was just standing up for the employee. the video shows stevenson '6-

year-old son hitting and kicking the other woman. stevenson was arrested. she's charged with neglect of a dependent and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. jeb bush will officially enter the 2016 presidential race today. he's long been expected to enter the field of candidates. he released his first campaign ad over the weekend. the video posted online features people in florida who say bush's policies when he was governor helped them. >> the most vulnerable in society should be in the front, not the back. as a governor, i had a chance to act on that belief. >> again jush is scheduled to -- jeb bush is scheduled to head to iowa and south carolina. hillary clinton will campaign in new hampshire and end the week with a stop in the bay area. clinton launched her campaign on saturday officially in saturday. her husband, bill clinton and

welcome back. 7:23. the body of the first american to die while fighting isis is now back home in massachusetts. the body of the man was flown to boston late last -- late saturday night. now, he joined kurdish forces fighting isis about four months ago. he died june 3rd during a patel in the syrian -- battle in the syrian village. he died in defense of those bees persecuted for their christian faith. his funeral is set for wednesday. u.s. military officials believe they killed the al qaeda leader responsible for a 2013 attack on a gas plant in algeria. mokhtar belmokhtar is accused

of leading the attack that killed at least 35 hostages including three americans. now, he was targeted in weekend airstrikes. the military hasn't yet confirmed he's dead. a pentagon spokesman says it appears that strike was successful. however, a fighter who was died to libyan militants claims he was not killed. 7:24. a dramatic rescue in china after a woman gets trappedden on the fifth -- trapped on the fifth floor of a collapsed building. the woman was found sta standing between broken walls early yesterday morning. a firefighter threw the woman a safety rope. she tied it to her waist and was able to slowly walk to safety. four people are still missing inside the building. no word on what caused the building to give way. some of the unsung heroes of world war ii recently visited the bay area and for the first time saw the museum

dedicated to their work. this year, they held their annual celebration in richmond, which is home to the rosy the live eter park -- riveter park. they are proud how seserveed their country. >> we wanted to get the ships built to give our boys what they needed to fight with. >> it was our mission to get these troops home. >> if the woman would not have stepped in and worked, we probably would have lost the war. >> they say they were the start of the civil rights and eqaut rights -- equal rights movements. fewer than 100 are still alive. most are in their 90s. still ahead -- two escaped inmates remain on the run after more than a week. details about what police admit

40s and 50s. southwest 21, 35, napa west. concord says south. sfo west, hayward west- southwest. i think you get the idea. we have an onshore breeze. we have a lot of low clouds and fog. little tiny dip in the jet. low clouds. sunny, breezy to wind. cool lows on -- low 50s for some. 80s. 60s and 70s. unless i missed something, things look okay. except for one thing. that one thing is highway 4. we've had the motorcycle crash. highway 4 has not been okay. that's because of a motorcycle accident there on highway 4. we'll get to that in just a moment. i do want to mention that at the bay bridge, we've had some slow traffic there as well. had some slowing here as you get up to the toll plaza. it's about a 25-minute delay. the only difference today, the backup doesn't go that much

deeper than the macarthur maze. sometimes we have backups on 80 and 580, it's kind of moderate there. you will be waiting. let's go to interstate 880 here where traffic in both directions is getting busier right in front of the coliseum. i started off mentioning highway 4, it's still slow, trying to get this motorcycle out of the way. one of the tow trucks is actually stuck in the backup here. if you are driving from antioch to concord, you need extra time, patience and some smiles. 680 on the other hand, a little bit slow off the beech. benicia. the state supreme court is set to rule on a case that will have a big impact on affordable housing. ktvu fox's janine de la vega joins us live from san jose to explain. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tori.

most everyone can agree that there's not enough affordable housing here but is it fair to make developers subsidize housing in their new developments. that's what the state supreme court is going to be deciding on later today. in 2010, san jose approved an ordinance requiring residential development to price 15 per cent of its units for sale at below market rates but that law has been on hold because the california building industry challenged it. they argued it's unstuingal taking a property. we asked -- unconstitutional taking a property. we asked some about it. >> i'm a single mom of four little boys. i hope they say yes instead of saying no. >> reporter: city officials see the lack of affordable housing

silicon valley as an issue. >> janine de la vega live for us this morning. thank you. 7:32. another rough day on wall street following the collapse of weekend talks between greece and its creditors around the june 30th deadline looms. the dow currently is down 170. the nasdaq is down 51 just crossed below the 5,000 mark at 4,999 and the s&p is down 17 at 2,076. interest rates could go up to depending upon what comes out of the federal reserve policy meeting. so far, the interest rates have been historically low and global bankers want it to stay that way until next year. because they say global markets

are not stable enough to withstand any volatility. the federal reserve's policy meeting begins tomorrow and wraps up on wednesday. 7:33. doyle drive in san francisco is due to close for four days next month. it will be closed from thursday, july 9th at 10:00 p.m. until monday july 13th at 5:00 a.m. that closure will wrap up nears of work on the new road and the tunnels. drivers you are encouraged. use the richmond/san rafael bridge and the bay bridge instead. there is a new report showing highway 87 in san jose it's one of the most jam-packed freeways in santa clara county during rush hours. the average speed is about 35 miles an hour during morning and afternoon rush. the report says even the carpool lanes are slow because of solo drivers using those lanes to try to get around the backups. >> always tempting. the clock is ticking down to the deadline to have a state

budget in place. today, democratic lawmakers are expected to approve a spending plan that is bigger than what governor brown wants. it include $749 million in spending that was not in the governor's budget proposal. it's pace based -- based on assumptions that revenues will be higher than the estimate. they want to put more money in child care, welfare and healthcare. the governor is committed to building up the state's rainy day fund. the two sides are expected to negotiate up until the vote is taken. it has to be done by midnight tonight or else the legislators won't get paid. the governor is trying to work in a law that would let state officials force financially troubled agencies to be taken over by larger water systems. supporters say that would help people around the state who are served by small districts not capable of dealing with water

quality and shortage problems. the smaller districts say the plan leads to a loss of local control. people in contra costa county will soon be paying more for water. pittsburg will consider imposing fines and higher rates. under the plan, water rates would go up about 4% for most single family homes. officials say the higher rates will help to meet the 20% reduction in water usage required by the state. the plan calls for fines between $25 and $1,000 for excessive use. catalytic converter thefts are on the rise in petaluma. 17 stolen last week. two of them saturday night. the sheriff's office says there was a rash of thefts back in march when 30 vehicles were hit. the thieves normally go after

suvs and pickups because they sit higher off the ground which makes it easier for a thief to slide beneath it and steal those parts. 7:36. a prison worker accused of helping two convicted killers escape from an upstate new york prison is due in court this morning. prosecutors say joyce mitchell had agreed to be the get away driver but backed out. david sweat and richard matt used power tools to break out of prison more than a week ago. more than 800 law enforcement officers are taking part in the search for them. >> we don't know if they are still in the immediate area or if they are in mexico by now. >> if they are still here in this immediate area, their ability to hunker down for a week and stay on the run is a big surprise to us. >> mitchell has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. ifth canned, she -- if

convicted, she faces up to eight years in prison. two police officers shot and killed a man in stockton after he led them 0 -- he was in a stolen car and led them on a high-speed chase. it started yesterday. officers on patrol saw a man hitting a woman on the street. when the police approached the man, they say he took off in a stolen car and led them on that chase. the officers rammed that stolen car to stop him. when they got out to arrest him, the police officers say he drove towards them and that's when they opened fire. no officers were hurt. family members and friends of a man who was shot and killed by richmond police plan to hold a rally and a news conference later today. 24-year-old richard perez was killed last september. police say perez was drunk when he got into a fight with officer wallace jenson outside of a liquor store. police say perez was shot after he reached for the officer's gun. the rally set for today will be

held in front of the district attorney general's office in martinez. 7:38. the warriors heading to cleveland but watching the game at oracle arena on a big screen could still cost you a pretty penny. at 8:00, the cheapest prices to watch game 6 at oracle arena. but something like a horror movies. two teens vacationing at a north carolina beach. we are pear looking at the spay -- we are looking at the south bay commute. the traffic will be moderate on highway 101. we'll run it down for you. a lot of low clouds and fog. maybe a little bit of out there. decent westerly breeze all equals a cool pattern here. we'll see what's in store for the rest of the week.

en:42. a natural gas line ruptured last night in texas. look at this huge fire that erupted. this happened in dewitt county about two hours southwest of houston. one report says you can see these flames 20 miles away. evacuations were forced. so far, no word of injuries. the cause of that pipe rupture is still under investigation. meantime, two teenagers were attacked by sharks and they lost limbs in separate shark attacks off the coast of north carolina. both happened along oak island beach yesterday afternoon. authorities say a 12-year-old girl lost part of her left arm. she may lose part of her left leg, too. about 90 minutes later, a 16-

year-old boy was attacked. part of his left arm had to be amputated. >> they say the head was about that big. estimated 6, 8 feet. no, 7, 8. blood in the water coming over with the white wash. the kid's in shock. >> both of the victims were visiting from out of town. they were in shallow water about -- about up to their waist when they were attacked. authorities have not said whether that same shark is responsible for both attacks. every day there are a few stories that everyone seems to be talking about and tweeting about. pam cook is in the studio with what's trending. >> the leader of the naacp in spoe want, washington, rachel dolezal -- spokane washington, rachel dolezal, canceled a meeting tonight where she was

supposed to speak about her racial identity. her parents say she's white. some people are planning a demonstration in spokane tonight calling for her to step down. the official response from the naacp is that the civil rights organization accepts leaders were all ethnicities. also trending a piece of art in oakland that celebrates the warriors. it's on the side of the building at 27th and northgate in oakland. the artists say it's not just a tribute to the team but to the community pride they've help generate. >> the taggers seem to respect murals. it will really help. >> the artists got permission to paint this mural from the building owner but they are doing it for free. and want you to take a look

at this -- an unbelievable photo of a raccoon, look he's just riding around on an alligator. this was taken in florida by richard jones. he said he and his family could not believe their eyes or luck being there to see that in person. now, the man says he thinks his son scared the raccoon when his son moved closer to the river which caused the raccoon to hop on. he did hop right back off on the bank right after that family took that picture. >> it's great timing. they snapped it. >> just in the nick of time. >> great shot. >> target is telling off part of the business. the discount retailer is telling its farlcy and clinic business to cvs health. the deal includes more than 1600 pharmacies and target stores that will be add branded as cvs pharmacies. target will reband the in-store

clinics at cvs minute clinics and cvs is open 20 more inside target stores. the deal is worth nearly $2 billion. kind of interesting, the iranian government has launched a match-making website. it's an effort to incourage some of the country's 11 million single people to tie the knot. the traditional role of arranging marriages has declined in recent years. so a board will match applicants after reviewing their age, education and wealth background. there will be meetings and psychological testing. the goal is to 100,000 marriages over the next year. >> very interesting. >> something you wouldn't expect from the iranian government. sal, in the south bay? >> we do have a new crash in

san jose, northbound 101 at hellyer boulevard and that has traffic backed up from blossom hill road. i'm reading it off the screen. it's a rather new incident on northbound 101. i do want to mention, though, that traffic is going to be backed up. we still have a lot at some of the slowdowns. highway 280 in san jose looks good. there goes caltrains. steve loves when that happens. 280 is not bad. it looks good as you drive out of the san jose area. we also have the crash in the east way we've been talking about, highway 4, westbound, they just cleared that. the traffic is way behind schedule coming out of antioch and pittsburg and getting to concord. when you get to the bay bridge, this morning we haven't had a light commute. it's backed up for a 20, 25- minute delay. we're still getting a lot of people going. at some point,up, july, we see knockoff in the traffic but that's not today. let's go to steve. sal, you should tell the

data that goes back sometimes 1800s, 1900s. the one thing that stands out are that the lows are warmer. the highs are not any different. i've seen 107, 108. it's the lows. the lows used to be in the 40s. 50s on the temps. san francisco 6. oakland, 68. these are lightly below coast and bay. there's too much fog here. it looks like those might be the coolest days of the week. we had the discrepancy with novato, a couple of people tweeted me and said that's not right, that 47. i went with 52. that seems more normal. san rafael at 50 degrees. there's a lot of cool lows here. if it feels like it's cooler, it is. most locations are running 1 or 2 degrees cooler than sunday morning. westerly breeze. west-southwest, west, sfo, hayward, livermore, it's a

westerly component. naturally pretty heavy rain slicing through the northeast. looks like they are about done. watch this tropical system. it's taking aim at areas where they don't need the areas. it looks like anywhere from 8 to 10 inches of rain could call in parts of texas over the next couple of days. it will go wrapping right back around kansas city, st. louis, the great lakes, for us, we will had the rain last wednesday. no more rain in sight. windy at times. a lot of low clouds. drizzle. coastal drizzle. 25, 30 miles an hour gusts from san pablo i -- bay. there are a few locations that get back in the 90s. ukiah and clearlake, but 60s, 70s. 80s. but vacaville only 87. that's not bad for vacaville. low 80s, mid-80s for some. upper 60s, 70s for others.

ajumbotron. san francisco police staffing will be talked about at a supervisors' committee meeting. there are 1700 officers. but a resolution is calling for at least 2200. a new report shows police staffing levels are less than nine other cities of the same size as san francisco. police chief greg suhr warrants to put more -- wants to put more officers on the streets. but critics worry about the cost. one police officer costs $175,000 a year in salary and benefits. a 7-week-pothole blitz begins today. city wants you to help out by reporting problem areas. it's a pretty easy thing to do, right, brian? >> reporter: it is an eebsy thing to. this is one of the examples at jack london square embarcadero west and clay. but there's no question oakland

streets need work. something the mayor says is one of her priorities. city work crews will be out patching up many of the potholes. they are calling a pothole blitz. it begins today and goes until july 31st. according to the pavement condition index which measures street conditions nationwide, oakland streets rank near the bottom of bay area cities. there are approximately 1900 miles of road in the city that need to be maintained. according to the city works department the issue is funding the backlog bounced to -- amounts to about $400 million. that number continues to grow. city officials say there isn't just money to resurface thed roo -- the roads. as we take it back out here live, we've been driving around oakland, me and my photographer, sid, have seen plenty of hot poles. plenty of ways to report potholes in your neighborhood. you can call the public works

attack where at least 35 hostages, including three americans, were killed. now, he was targeted over the weekend in airstrikes. the military hasn't confirmed yet that he was killed. the pentagon spokesperson said it appears the air strike was successful. a fighter who has ties to libbyian militants, he's claiming he was not killed. 8:10. as the supreme court's current term draws to a close at the end of the month, the justices have big issues on the plate. the most-anticipated ruling is on same-sex marriage. the court will decide whether gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry or whether state bans against same-sex marriage can stay in place. this rule something likely to come on the term's last days, june 29th or june 30th. the future of president obama's healthcare law is on the line for the second time in three years. at issue, is the legality of the federal subsidies relied

the body of the first american to die while fighting isis is now back home in massachusetts. his body was flown to boston late saturday night. he joined kurdish forces fighting isis about four months ago. he died on june 3rd. his obituary says he died in defense of those being persecuted for their christian faith. his funeral is scheduled for wednesday. a new hampshire man planning to hold a controversial draw muhammed contest in august. last month, you remember two fem were killed by police after opening fire at a similar event

in garland, texas. this man is putting on the event to start a conversation about freedom of expression. some people worry it will only trigger violence. images of the prophet muhammad are forbidden in islam. it's considered offensive. one of the woman involved in a fight at a walmart store is facing charges but not for the fight. the incident was caught on cell phone video and posted on video. amber stevenson said the fight started after she heard rebecca mills in a skeeter use a racial -- scooter use a racial slur against an employee. stevenson was arrested and charged with negligent -- negligence of a dependent and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. some of the unsung heroes of world war ii, they came here to the bay area for a visit and for the first time, they saw the museum dedicated to their

work. as a group, they are known as rosy the live eter -- live attar. rivoter. they built planes, ships, used by the allied troops during the war. they were humble then but proud how they served interest nation. >> we wanted to get the ships built so we could give our boys what they needed to fight with. >> it was our mission to get these troops home. >> the women, most -- if the women didn't work, we would have probably lost the war. >> it's an incredible story of history and a lot of women of all races were part of this. they also say they were the start of the civil rights and equal rights movements. most of them are in their 90s now. newer than 100 of them are

it's a sea breeze. an onshore breeze. tough to warm up that much when you have -- i will get out of the way. this much fog and it makes that much of a push inland. a westerly wind. low clouds. once that heads back to the coast. it will be sunny. it will be breezy to windy. cooler for most. inland slight lit below average. 50s, 60s, 70s near the water. still san jose or is that improved? >> it's improved a little bit. we're seeing some improvement. we're on the 8:00 hour. let's take a look at what we have. this is a look at traffic in san jose. you mentioned it. we'll start there. 85 is kind of slow getting up to highway 17 and beyond that. 208 at 101 are slow. there's a big bottleneck near hellyer as they clear that accident. i want to move up on the contra costa area. highway 4 still recovering from earlier issues. you can see that the bay bridge is about a 15, 20-minute delay

there at the toll plaza. also we're looking at traffic that is going to be -- i guess we're going back to the maps. look at 580 westbound. we have the slowdown. it's still there on the altamont pass. it gets better from livermore to dublin. >> back to the desk. the state supreme court expected to decide how much new aforable housing is built here in the bay area. it all stems from a law put in place back in 2010. janine de la vega joining us live now, you are in san jose to explain what this is all about. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. san jose's ordinance requires new residential development to set aside 15% of its units for sale at below market rates. but developers say that's not fair. san jose put this ordinance in

effect in 2010. it's been on hold because the california building industry association challenged it. the state supreme court is expected to decide. they argue it's unconstitutional taking a property. city officials see the lack of affordable housing is a big issue. we asked residents what they think about the affordable housing. >> there's not enough. i waited since my baby was five months and now he's seven. >> it kind of sets the trend. maybe you want to help people. i know it's all about profitability. let's help the people that can't afford those. >> city officials say the ordinance is one of their last hopes in terms of securing louse housing for -- housing for low-income people. builders say the cost may be passed onto new buyers.

legal analysts say this would affect similar housing laws in nearly 200 california cities. dave? >> all right, janine de la vega from san jose, thank you. the clock is ticking down to the deadline. there's a new state budget in place. today democratic lawmakers are expected to approve a spending money that's bigger than what the governor wants. it include $749ing about in spending that's not plan. it's based on the beliefs that state revenues will be bigger than brown's estimate. the democrats want to put more money into child care, welfare and healthcare. the governor raised school spending in his proposal but he's also committed to building up the state's rainy day fund. the two sides are expected to keep voting right up until the vote is taken which has to be done by midnight tonight or lawmakers won't get paid. people in contra costa county could face tougher fines

for water. the pittsburg city council will consider a plan to raise water rates an impose fines on those who use a lot of water. under the plan, water rates would go up 4% for most single family homes. officials say the higher rates will help meet the 20% rediction in water usage that the state requires. that plan also calls for fines between $25 and $1,000 for excessive water use. well, doyle drive in san francisco is due to close can for four days next month. it will be cleebsed between thursday, july 9th at 10:00 p.m., until monday, july 13th at 5:00 a.m. that closure will wrap up years of work on the new road and the tunnels. you drivers, you are encouraged to use the bridge and the bay bridge instead. and there is a new report that shows highway 87 in san jose is one of the most jammed up freeways in santa clara

county during rush hours. according to the valley transportation authority, the average speed out there is about 35 miles an hour during morning and afternoon rush. the report says even the carpool lanes are slow because solo drivers use those lanes to try to get around traffic backups. catalytic converter thefts are on the rise in petaluma. 17 of them were stolen just in the past week. two were stolen sphwhit. the sonoma county sheriff's office says it was also a rash of thefts in march, about 30 vehicles were hit then. the thieves normally are targeting suvs and pickup trucks because they sit higher up off the ground, making it easier for the thief to slide underneath and steal the parks. frustration building in new york. the escaped killers, ten days now. >> we don't know if they are still in the immediate area.

>> thank you. what are you talking about? there are always a couple of stories getting a lot of attention with us on the air and online. pam cook is in the studio now. so what's trending, pam? >> my first boss at ktvu used to call it water cooler talk. what will everyone be talking about at work? here's some of the stories that are trending today. how did they get away. it has now been ten days since two convicted killers escaped from a prison in upstate new york. now they reportedly were able to get ahold of the power tools because they were left behind by contractors. more than 800 officers are still out looking for those missing inmates. >> we don't know if they are still in the immediate area or if they are in mexico by now. >> the woman accused of helping in the escape will appear in court today. scary story from north carolina.

two teens attacked by a shark. both attacks happened along oak island beach hours apart in the southern part of north carolina yesterday afternoon. a 12-year-old girl lost part of her left arm. she may lose part of her left leg. and about 90 minutes later, she a -- a 16-year-old boy was attacked. he also had to get part of his left arm amputated. >> they said -- they estimated 6, 8 feet. 7, 8. blood in the water coming over with the white wash. the kid was in shock. >> authorities are still trying to determine if the teens were attacked by the same shark. and the leader of the naacp in spokane, washington, can't seem to get out of the headlines. rachel dolezal canceled a chapter meeting scheduled for tonight.
