first time in 40 years the golden state warriors are nba champions. they got their hands on the trophy after beating the cavaliers 105-97 the warriors are bringing that trophy back here to the bay area and now the preparation starts for a celebration to be held this friday until downtown oakland. mornings on 2 continues. we could talk about them all morning. these are live pictures of oracle. no matter what that is all we do is win, win, win. true nickname roaracle. in just a couple of minutes we will have team coverage. >> we may have to dance this morning. >> we have seen you. >> i can't do anything. >> you stopped when we came back on the air. thank you for joining us and waking up even though you are

like us didn't get a lot of sleep. it's wednesday, june 17th i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. we are also checking on your weather and traffic. steve paulson has your forecast. he's got it under control. >> i hope so. >> i have faith in you. >> a lot of high clouds. a lot of bands of high clouds coming up from the hawaiian islands so that is a little twist from what we saw last time. there is plenty of low clouds around. temperatures coast and bay are actually running a little bit below average. these are the average highs for this time of year. sfo 71, oakland airport 71, hayward 74. today 70s and 64 and 68 and 63. inland temps are running a little bit above. highs coming up from the west, southwest. 47 at santa rosa. they continue to be the coolest. west, southwest 13, 18 this is slightly stronger than yesterday. that is the band of high clouds

it extends well to the west, southwest. morning cloud. fair. well to hot inland. 60s by the coast. 70s around the bay. all right sal i guess the san jose sharks are now on the clock. they are. i'm alive long enough to see every professional team expect for the sharks they haven't won one, win one. >> they will. >> okay great. hear that sharks fans? steve says you will win a championship. book it. let's go out and take a look at the commute now. right now it's not bad. we haven't had a lot of crashes out there. we still have a delay at the bay bridge toll plaza. have about normal time of 25 minutes. there is our friend boris the spider kind of showing up. he's making a web for sure because we've seen him around this morning. traffic is actually doing okay if you are driving on the bridge itself. this is a look at interstate 880 north and southbound. that traffic is doing fine. we are seeing some slow traffic

on the nimitz freeway. southbound approaching eighth street but after that it looks good. let's go back to the desk. oh yeah the 40 year drought is over in case you didn't hear. the golden state warriors are your 2015 nba champions. >> curry rifles past it to iguodala. >> andre was ridiculous. the warriors won. steph curry and iguodala had 25 points each. and they also hit critical free throws. once again it was the bench that made huge contributions. the warriors nba title marks their 83rd win of the season only michael jordan's chicago bulls won more games in the

season. >> i've seen this on tv so many times. dreaming about what it will be like to pour champagne on yourself. >> when you believe more in the team than yourself. i think everyone on this team can say they did that. look at us now we're spraying champagne. >> bravo guys. wondering with the warriors are they stayed over night in cleveland. they are flying back here to the bay area. they will be arriving in oakland about 1:30 this afternoon. the turning point in the series was putting andre iguodala in the starting lineup and he was voted the mvp of the nba finals. >> we all say god has a way for you, a purpose for you. this is my purpose and i accepted it and i have great teammates. i want to be like steph when i grow up. >> ha is one of the best lines

of the night. iguodala did not start a single game until game four of the finals and last nights game he had 25 points, five rebounds, five assists. i think a lot of people want to grow up to be andre too. this is iguodalas first title. >> i want to be like them too. during last nights game a watch party was held right inside oracle arena and it became a victory celebration. every seat filled. 17,000 fans jammed into the arena. they wanted to be a part of bay area sports history and they were. and once the game ended in cleveland, the confetti rained down. long-time long suffering warriors fans waited for years. >> i waited for this forever. i cannot believe it. >> it feels fabulous. thank you so much warriors we

love you. >> it doesn't get better than this, ever. >> pam, we are done. i can't add anything to that. right after the victory the championship caps and shirts went on sale. and because of the high demand they had to limit five to a customer. the warriors store it stayed open until midnight handling all the fans that wanted to buy warriors championship gear. that store will reopen at 8:00. >> i think everybody's voices got a little bit higher celebrating. fans have been flying warriors flags and wearing hats, shirts. now there is one more thing many of us want. the fans equivalent of the championship trophy. janine de la vega is in union city with some of the official nba championship hats and t- shirts. they go on sale in the next hour. are people waiting? >> reporter: yes there are.

one of the fans bought a shirt last night she is letting me borrow it. here it says nba champs. this is what people want. she came back this morning because she wants to get a hat. i'm told their hats sold out in five minutes. you can see the fans waiting for the doors to open at 7:00 a.m.. they wanted to be the first in line. let's go to video last night when one of our ktvu crews visited a shirt printing shop and got a look at one of the designs. it says the finals champions. employees have been working all night. we are told they will crank out 15,000 of them. take a look at the locker room beer. these are pictures the nba released of the official hat that retails for $25.95. both of them are available at the nba anline store. we have been speaking to warriors fans this morning and

two wreaths at the sight of the deadly accident. there were 13 on that balcony celebrating at a birthday party when it suddenly broke off early yesterday morning. in addition to the six people killed, seven others were injured in the fall. and from the bay area to ireland the close knit irish community is in shock and grief. >> reporter: now the consulate says relatives of those killed are flying in from ireland. there are an estimated 700 students from ireland currently in the bay area and one family lost two young women in the collapse. 22-year-old ashley donohoe and her cow sin were both killed. we did speak on the tone with george donohoe. he told us it was the worse day

of his life. this memorial continues to grow. several of the messages say gone too soon. there were pictures, obviously flowers. candles here left behind. we understand several of the family members making that 11 hour trip. as for the other balconies, they remain red tagged until further notice. guys back to you. >> all right brian flores in berkeley. thank you. we learned it's not the first time questions had been raised on its work. the lawsuit claimed that

breezeways and private balconies were not in compliance with local and state codes and water penetrated the structure. >> in construction projects many times the developer in the construction company disagrees. you can't put too much weight on a lawsuit. >> should people be troubled specifically. we are following a developing story out of antioch. police are investigating a shooting that killed two people. a third person is injured just after midnight officers were called to cavalo road. they found a man and a woman both dead. officers also located another woman suffering from a gunshot wound. it's not considered life threatening but she was taken to the hospital.

police not saying if they are looking for any suspects but we do have a crew on the way to the scene again in antioch. we will bring you updates as soon as they become available. meantime search continues for those two escapees. why authorities are concerned they may be long gone. >> a teenager reported missing was tased by a sheriffs deputy. what led up to the violent confrontation all caught up on camera.

san diego sheriff is standing by his deputy who was caught on camera tasing a 13- year-old boy. on monday the deputy was responding to an area known as a hangout for skate borders looking for the teenager who had been reported missing by his mother. when he asked the boy to get in the car, the boy refused and ended up biting the deputy. >> i don't think he should have done that to a little kid. >> what we have is an out of control juvenile who could have prevented this ordeal by obeying the commands of the deputy. >> the deputy will not be placed on administrative leave. take a look at this. i want to show you a model of

the new generation of muni light rail cars that will go into service in san francisco by the end of the year. san francisco mayor ed lee was among those checking out the new cars yesterday. muni plans to add more than 200 light rail cars to its fleet. the cars will fit 20 more people. they are all designed to carry bicycles as well. south bay bus driver is being honored and praised for his part in the rescue of a small child kidnapped from the milpitas library. watson says he spotted that three-year-old boy and the suspect on his bus after seeing a message from dispatchers back on june 5th. well he called police and slowly drove the bus to ideal police officers could make an arrest. watson accepted the award on behalf of everyone involved. >> so again it was a team work

popular. and you know what, the warriors are a bay area team. you see them in san francisco and oakland and san jose. so you will see these all over the place. good morning everyone. let's go outside and start off with a look at the commutes that are getting a little bit crowded i must say. westbound 80 at the mccarthur maze, you can see coming around the corner there it is a little bit slow to the bay bridge toll plaza. we've had a backup this morning at the bay bridge. the traffic is going to be delayed for 20-25 minutes. there was a hit and run accident on the bay bridge at the toll plaza. didn't cause a big delay. let's take a look now at some of the other bridges. the san mateo and dumbarton bridge are fine choices getting out to the peninsula. highway 101 when you get there also looks good. let's go to steve in the weather. >> all right sal, thank you, sir. we have a couple little things

going on. one is a band of high clouds coming up from the hawaiian island. coast and bay will be slightly below average. and speaking of the higher clouds there they are. inland temps running a little above average but there is a slightly stronger breeze and the higher clouds might take the edge off. this was sent to me yesterday by mr. c. this is the a's the sunny gray gnome and he says it looks just like you. >> it does. >> oh my gosh it does. >> i posted this on facebook. i had more responses than anything i posted weather wise. >> look at that. twinning. >> my brother from another mother. [ laughter ] thank you for all of your responses on facebook. the higher clouds came through. 47 santa rosa. 59 brentwood. a lot of 50s in here. there is a little bit stronger breeze. i follow this every time. yesterday died off. temperatures warmed up. 51-55 on the water temps.

came down a tiny bit for san francisco and buoy. but it's the remains of what was tropical storm bill now tropical depression and it's hanging out at dallas fort worth. the tail of that is getting big- time thunderstorms. for us fog will burn back but look at the higher clouds there is a pretty good band coming up here. morning fog fair, cool for some. hot well enough inland. a little breezy at times. a little stronger than yesterday. 60s and 70s to near 90 degrees. again some of the higher clouds look to be on the increase. we will keep temperatures about the same inlapped. maybe down a degree or two. over all not much change expect for day-to-day changes. subtle changes which means one day a little warmer, one day a little cooler. but coast and bay staying a little below with that coast and fog.

good morning. welcome back to mornings on 2 it's 6:26. new york state police expanding the search for the two escaped convicted killers. more than 800 state, federal, and local officers are doing the search now there seems to be a growing sense these men are long gone. >> once they got the sniff of freedom coming out of that manhole cover, they didn't go on a hope that somebody would just pick them up and move them off to field. they have to have something a little bit more elaborate. >> we're also learning more

about joyce mitchell the woman the prison employee accused of helping them get away. she had sexual relationships with both men. she's accused of plotting with them to kill her husband after they escaped. she is in jail now and by the way her husband visited her yesterday. at the woman's world cup the united states has won its group. abby wombac scored late in the first half. turned out to be the only goal of the game. it was her 14th world cup goal ever. it puts her in a tie for second on the all-time list. the u.s. finished group play for a record of two wins, sow row losses. group play continues for other teams. we're not going to have a newscast at noon today so you can see the match between mexico and france. they are in group f. coverage of that game starts right at noon. you have to take your eyes to the tv and see this little

cutety. the oakland zoo listening a new member of the family. the baby is named maloo which means thunder. it can be seen daily from 11:00 to 3:30 by visitors riding the out back adventure express train. he may be known by many as the best player in the nba and in the world but last night his team came up short. up next reaction from lebron james and what he says his team was missing when the finals began. >> we're live in oakland where warriors fans are getting ready to welcome home their world champions. we'll let you know how they plan to celebrate and how things went last night in oakland and in san francisco. >> and we're checking the bridge commute. let's take a look at the golden gate bridge. despite the fog, the traffic looks good but we have busy traffic at the bay bridge. we'll talk about that as well. >> plenty of fog out there and there will also be higher

steve? a compliment. look at the warriors colors. you are wearing them perfectically today. i like that. >> sal. somebody said that to me and i said it dawned on me at 3:00 a.m. to wear these colors. >> i see what you did there. thank you, steve. good morning everyone. let's take a look at what we have. the incidents on the chp list not many. starting off with a look at the bridges pap little bit deep this morning. 20-25 minute delay. no problems on the upper deck of the bay bridge getting into san francisco. we're also looking at the san mateo bridge in westbound 92 that traffic looks good heading out to the high-rise a little bit of slow traffic in hayward already. but not much. i want to show you the traffic maps here and traffic is moving along a little bit slowly. it does seem a tad lighter and that may be because some people were up late set baiting. let's go back to the desk. the new nba champion golden state warriors they will be back home from cleveland around 1:00 this afternoon.

last night the bay area celebrated erupting in cheers after the warriors won their first title in 40 years. now the victory parade is planned for friday. ktvu fox 2 tara moriarty is live in oakland this morning. it's calm now between celebrations but some big stuff coming our way. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. yeah. i have to say it's been pretty quiet out here and that is probably because everybody is sleeping in after all we did have a pretty wild night last night. a few fans tied up traffic in oakland. one man climbed a traffic pole on telegraph avenue. police reported heavy congestion in east oakland and some jumped on top of buses. but officers were visible. they spanned out all over the city so for now no reports of any serious damage or vandalism just a lot of excited fans. >> this is the most exciting

moment of my life. warriors are the champions. go warriors. >> i feel fantastic. >> reporter: now in san francisco fans launched bottle rockets and in the mission district very large crowds gathered. however no word yet of any arrests in san francisco or oakland. now there is a parade planned for nba champs. it starts at 10:00 friday morning at broadway and 11 street. this is the parade route highlighted with arrows. some streets between broadway and martin luther king junior way will be closed. fans can line up as early as 5:00 in the morning on lake shore and 12th, bart and ac transit will be offering extra services to oakland and it's probably a good idea to take that. live from oakland i'm tara moriarty back to you. >> all right tara, thank you. despite a historic play off performance lebron james return home ended in disappointment.

king james averaged nearly 36 points. 13 rebounds, nine assist in the finals. he became the first player in the nba history to lead his team in scoring, rebounding, and assists for the finals. but his performance not enough to end cleveland's 51 year title drought. >> you have to be healthy. you have to be playing great at the right time. you have to have a little luck. and we were playing great but we had no luck and we weren't healthy. >> james left the miami heat last off season to rejoin the cavaliers. be the team that drafted him out of high school. james grew up in akron, ohio. turning now to berkeley and the heartbreaking tragedy of yesterday's deadly balcony collapse. investigators this morning still searching for answers as to why that balcony collapsed killing six people and injuring

many more. brian flores is joining us live. you're until berkeley. tell us about the out pouring of grief. >> there is quite a bit of it. a memorial to my right continues to grow. we'll take a look at that in a moment. the focus on this investigation continues to be the structural integrity of the balcony that collapsed early yesterday morning. investigators do say it is going to take some time to figure that out but as you can association the area here on harold way remains closed off. and that memorial continues to grow. now bag pipes played as the council general laid two wreaths at the deadly site of the accident. there were 13 people on that balcony when it broke off early yesterday morning. many of the students were here on work visas from ireland. in addition to the six people

killed, seven others were injured in the fall. the close knit irish community is in shock and grief. >> it's been a very tragic day for ireland. i don't think there is a family in ireland that hasn't been touched by the tragedy that happened here. >> reporter: now the consulate says relatives of those killed are flying in from ireland. there are an estimated 700 students from ireland currently here in the bay area and one family lost two young women in the collapse. 22-year-old ashley donohoe and her cousin 21-year-old olivia burke. we spoke with ashley's father, he tells us it was the worse day of his life. his daughter was a fine, vibrant woman. he feels deeplies for the families of the other victims. this memorial continues to grow which is very near the collapse of that balcony. as for today we understand several family members again

making that 11 hour trip from ireland to here in the bay area and in the coming days we also understand structural engineers and the property manager will be re-examining that collapsed balcony. as for other balconies, they remain red tagged. >> what a story. thank you. meantime oakland police searching for a gunman who fired shots that injured a four- year-old girl in east oakland. a sheriffs deputy drove that child to the hospital and within minutes her distraught family arrived. now the shooting happened yesterday afternoon at 81st avenue. police are still trying to determine what happened but apparently the girl a the father with an suv. and then someone fired back.

>> this is bun of the incidents where we should be really upset about and do something about and i'm talking about the community, i'm talking about the city, the police department. >> that little girl is expected to recover. her father as you see here was taken into custody outside the hospital. we're not sure what charges he may be facing. a 16-year-old boy is speaking out from the hospital after losing his left arm in a shark attack. he was in fairly shallow water on sunday when he felt the shark bite him. the teenager from colorado spring says he attends to fight. >> i can try to live my life the way it was. and make an effort to do that. >> now a 12-year-old girl was also attacked by a shark and
