only grazed but the car hit three women and two children walking along the sidewalk. >> i heard him hit the pole. i looked over and all the sudden i seen everybody flying. the kids flying, the lady go under the car. i'm going --. >> two women were pinned under the car one died instantly. the other was rescued by a tow truck driver the injuries range from serious to critical. >> he realized what he did. he realized it. he heard me when i said the laid lady was dead. >> the driver is a 65-year-old man. the man who shot the video said he appeared to be drunk but police are looking at the possibility of a medical issue. two cousins killed in the berkeley balcony collapse will be remembered today a funeral will be held for ashley

donohoe. there will also be a memorial for olivia burke. they were among six killed while standing on a fifth floor balcony. five of the victims were students from ireland. seven ireland >> seven people who survived will stay in the bay area for a while. they had serious injuries including broken bones and most of the victims needed surgery. they are spread out between hospitals in oakland, walnut creek and castro valley. many of the nation's most powerful are in the bay area for the united states conference of mayors. right now a group is taking a -- a morning walk across the golden gate bridge. they started about a half hour ago from the north side of the bridge into san francisco. also democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton will

speak at the conference. after the mayor's conference she will attend a fundraiser. tickets start at $2,700 a person. another democratic candidate, martin omalley will address the conference tomorrow. at the bottom of the hour we will have highlights the conference yesterday that included remarks president obama and two bay area music stars. in just a few hours hundreds will take part in the making strides against breast cancer walk. alley is live for us in walnut creek where people are getting ready for that race. >> reporter: hi. we are at heather farm park in walnut creek for the making strides against breast cancer walk. it doesn't start until nine this morning but there is a lot of prep work. they have this registration table. there is a table where people can pick up gear and support of the event. again starts at nine and they expecting from five to nine hundred people to show up in walnut creek. monte brown is with the cancer

society. one of the unique things is that you don't have a set registration amount or fundraising minimum this is accessible to a lot of people financially. >> that's right. one of the things that's unique about making strides is that we are frea accessible to the community. one thing i like is that it makes these events far more reflective of the communities in which they happen. they are really accessible and diverse events where families, everybody is welcome to come and get involved for whatever level of donation and fundraising they want. >> reporter: and that's how you operate here. people come and sign up and they give a suggested donation. whatever they can pay to participate. >> absolutely. that's right. >> reporter: and you have raised quite a bit of money doing this and having that suggested donation format. >> that's correct. last year we raised 6 5,000 dollars. >> reporter: where can did it go? >> we have a look good, feel better program that gives beauty and cosmetic tips to

women going through chemo. then we have programs like reach to recovery that connects survivors with women going through breast cancer and things like road to recovery where we give free rides to people, individuals going through treatments. it's really wonderful a program like look good, feel better helps a woman feel a lot more like herself. we give free wigs. i think it's over $200 worth of personal care and make up. all sorts of stuff and it means quite a bit to cancer survivors to feel more like themselves during a trying time. >> reporter: a lot of good work and benefit. >> absolutely. >> reporter: thank you. the california division of the american cancer society. the event starts at nine. registration is still open. they have an informal vibe. you can show up as late as ten and just -- sign up, maybe that suggested donation and walk in this 5k. it's not competitive.

a man is facing charges after being accused of trying to help isis. he was one of several people arrested in the united states with suspected ties to the group. he had plans to travel to iraq and syria to join isis. he has been linked with a college student arrested last weekend on suspicious of plotting to build an explosive device. a man fell to his death after a skydiving accident. it happened on friday at skydive san diego which -- was located about 20 miles east of the city. they say the man was jumping a new parachute but something went wrong and he fell to his death. the owner of the company said he was experienced. the san diego county sheriff and the county medical examiner are investigating. a new study says earth is on track for a sixth mass extinction. they said the planet has been losing species at a rate that

hasn't been seen since the dinosaur age. the last five were caused by natural disasters. the latest is being caused by man made changes like poping and global warming. the head of major league baseball is offering comforting words for fans who want the team to stay in the east bay. he is in the area speaking at the neyor's conference and spoke to reporters yesterday about the stadium issue. he said that he remains committed to keeping the a's in oakland at least for the time being. he said economic worry and the raiders stadium issue are two reasons preeing a -- preventing a stadium. he said moving the team is off the lawsuit until the lawsuit is settled at least. and a report on building a major development at the site

i know that we as a family are going to get through this. >> court dooms claim roof went to the church wednesday evening wearing a fanny pack to hide the gun. investigators say he shot his victims and then yelled a racial statement over the body to a witness he allowed to survive to convey his message. roof's families have extended their symphonies. an attorney for them said worded can't express their shock, and disbelief. they add they are devastated and saddened and are praying for peace and healing. a father has been charged with abuse after his daughter suffered a gun shot wound riding in a car with him and another man. he said that he used a paint ball gun and shot up people along international boulevard but someone fired a real gun back at him. the car crashed is and everybody ran. somehow the girl was nearly two

mile away with a gun shot wound to the chest a sheriff's deputy later found her and took her to the hospital. she is expected to survive. the father and driver are charged with child abuse for putting her in a dangerous situation. a 9-year-old is being called a hero after saving a teenager who drowned or nearly drowned in a swimming pool. it happened wednesday night at the golf and country club. jake lee noticed another swimmer had been under the water to long. in this video -- we will show you -- there you go -- you can see -- those are two swim coaches jumping into the pool. austin chase, they got him out of the water a counselor rushed over and started cpr. >> it just -- split second decision. i knew what i had to do. >> austin chase started breathing after they started c pr and is now recovering a shallow water blackout. the club held a ceremony for his family to thank everybody.

the 9-year-old got special recognition for his quick thinking too. an investigation is underway at a water park in antioch after 30 children got sick. it happened thursday afternoon at the pruitt family water park. authorities say fire crews were called out to the park after reports of children suffering from breathing problems. of the 34 who were sick 17 had to go to the hospital but were released that same dame the health department looked in to maintenance records and said the pool was compliant with state health codes and though the cause is unknown the park is reopening to visitors today. the president is leaving the bay area for palm springs this morning. air force one is scheduled to depart at 9:40 this morning. the president is scheduled to speak at the united states conference of mayors. he touched on several topics including jobs, health care and climate change. in the wake of the south carolina shootings the

president also addressed the issue of gun control. >> we have to have a conversation about it and fix this. ultimately congress acts when the public insists on action. >> after the mayor's conference he attended two democratic fund-raisers, first he talked technology with a small group of high end donors and then the environment at. some paid $33,000 to meet the president. the opening act for the president at the mayor's conference was topped with carlos santana and mc hammer. the mayor who is the president of the mayor's conference moderated. the preformers spoke on the

on the streets. do you feel like -- the safety of -- citizens is compromised by the lake lack of officers in >> the old thing is you have to do more with less. at some point in time you get less with less. during my time we have been down 300 officers from what the voters voted for and it was charter mandated in 1994. to operate on a 20 some road year old number we have not been at for five-years when we have -- mission days exploding, now we have treasure island, candlestick point will be built out and populations up 13%. if seems you would say look at this proposal. look at other cities, we need more officers, we should have more. you want -- as many -- how many do you -- would you say? this is 500. how many would you say? >> again the 500 -- there is

two -- conversations. the first one is by law in san francisco we need to get to 300 -- get 300 back to get to the charter mandate. that's not at issue. nobody -- disagree was that. >> you will get to that. >> right. we have five academy classes coming. we should hit that number by mid2017. that will be nice. that's all the beat officers, everybody wants. all the bike officers, school resource officers. >> then another 200 that people are saying? >> the extra conversation is do we then continue to go past the 1971 or do we do a review to see if we need to get to the number that's been discussed -- is 2200 officers. and the fact the population is up 13%. >> and your take is? >> we will do the best we can with what we have. we need to get to the 1971 and -- if -- if we stay there, when

the other neighborhoods pop up -- it take away from what we do where we are now to cover those. to have more officers seems to be -- a smart plan. >> so, what do you say to people that like -- you say we -- this is good mondayy that we have. let's use it for technology. e equipping things better. we have us -- he with have a super smart -- the men and women of the police department have been doing just down 300 officers to hold the line on violent crime. property crime is way up. more beat officers. bike officers. again it's -- there is no -- no -- dispute they want them. the body cameras are coming. we are talking about 13% more people that weren't here before and then 13% more. as -- as those people get here they will expect to be -- to get police service and prevention too and they will be

that's the sound of a gun. the photographer who took this video said he was shot at after people realized he was videoing the event. this happened shortly before three this morning. the this is the high street off ramp in oakland. more than a hundred people stopped traffic to watch. police did eventually arrive and they broke up the scene. two cousins killed in the berkeley balcony collapse will be remembered today a funeral will be held for ashley donohoe. there will be a memorial for olivia burke before she is returned to ireland. they were among six killed on a balcony. five other victims were students from ireland who will be flown home to be buried. seven people who survived that collapse will likely stay in the bay area for a while. irish officials say they suffered serious injuries that included broken bones and most of the victims needed surgery. they are spread out between

hospitals in oakland, walnut creek and castro valley and they are being remembered in dublin. that includes a mass by the arch bishop. police say they have found a black toyota pickup truck involved in a hit and run. it happened thursday around nine in the morning a 26-year- old mad lynn moore was hit. hit. she was rushed to the hospital but died. police say that the driver of the pick up ran a red light and then sped away from the crash. someone recognized the truck from a surveillance photograph and that tip led to a home in haywood. >> detectives currently have the vehicle in their custody. they are processing for evidence in this case. other detectives and traffic investigators are trying to determine and identity who the suspect driver is of that vehicle. now this is the surveillance picture of that truck. police don't think the owner of the truck was behind the wheel.

medical condition. officers detained him but he was allowed to go home. that man could later be arrested. a woman who was walking in san carlos was hit by a recycling truck. it happened about 11:30 yesterday morning. the incident shut down one southbound lane and all lanes on holy street for about four hours. authorities say the driver is cooperating with investigators. anyone who may have witnessed that accident is asked to call the sheriff. a bay area father has been charged with abuse after his daughter suffered a gun shot wound while riding in the car with him and another man. he said that he was using a paint ball gun to shoot at people on tuesday. someone fired back with a real gun. the car crashed and everybody ran. somehow the girl ended up fearly two mile away with a gun shot wound to the chest a sheriff's deputy found her and took her to the hospital.

she is expected to survive. the father and driver charged with abuse for putting her in the situation. the man accused of a mass murder at a church in south carolina is scheduled to appear in court in october. the 21-year-old dylan roof made his first appearance yesterday by closed circuit video. he showed little emotion. he faces nine counts of murder and one weapons charge. in the hearing relatives of the victims spoke about the attack and how they are trying to deal with the sudden loss of their loved ones. >> she is not here with muss physically but i know that she is up and above watching over us. >> he went to the church wearing a fanny pack to hide the gun. investigators say he shot his victims and then yelled a racial statement over the bodies to a witness who was

cancer. she went through fertility and chemo at the same time. not only did she beat breast cancer but she has a healthy 9- month-old boy. you can see a loft of people wearing pin -- a lot of people wearing pink here as you look around. the walk benefits the american cancer society and some of the programs here in cost county. a lot of the i went -- contra costa county. a lot of people have come at the last minute. some have signed up last minute at 9:00 this morning. they want people to have access to this event and take part. row is a, you are out here -- over south america, you are out ear and -- rosa, you are out here for a long time. what are you doing here? >> i am here from my cancer

[gunshot sounds] >> that is the sound of gunshots. the photographer that took the video said he was shot at after people realized he was taking video of the event before 3:00 this morning at the high speed offramp in oakland. more than 100 people were gathered there and traffic was stopped as people stopped to watch the side show. police arrived at the scene and broke up the event. the crowds were disbursed. it is not clear if anyone was arrested. a 40-foot vessel was submerged in oyster cove manner. the person that reported the incident said they saw diesel

near the vessel. the cost guard says there are no environmental sensitive areas that could be affected by the oil. they are looking to find the owner. a toyota pickup truck, black, was involved in a deadly hit-and-run. 26-year-old madelyn moore was hit as she crossed the street. she was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries. the driver sped away from the crash. someone recognized the truck from a surveillance photo released by police and the tip led to a home in hayward. >> detectives have the vehicle in their custody. they are processing it for evidence in the case and other traffic investigators are trying to determine an identify who the suspect driver is of the vehicle. >> the surveillance photos from that truck show it is the an leandro police department releasing the photo. they don't think the owner of

the truck was behind the wheel. if you have information, contact them. six people were killed on a 5th floor balcony when it collapsed on tuesday. five of them from ireland will be flown home to be buried. irish officials say the survivors suffered serious injuries that included brocken bones. most of the victims needed surgery. the victims are being treated in oakland. in dublin, ireland, there will be a mass by the archbishop. oakland police are searching for a gunman who shot three people not far from the

warriors victory rally. it happened on lakeshore avenue near east 18th street. one woman told us she was walking away from the rally and heard people arguing, then a few minutes later heard five or six gunshots. one man is disappointed the shooting happened as the city was celebrating the warriors. >> we were in east oakland here, it is sad that happened. >> the three victims were taken to the hospital. the injuries are not life- threatening. officers are now looking for witnesses to the argument of the shooting. the warriors of the championship crowd ended with showers. it is estimated a million people took part in the celebration. crowded. they stopped escalators so we could get in. it was a bunch of people. >> people all over. you know you have to wait and stained fill for a little bit in the -- standstill for a little bit in the heat. >> the city chose to shut down the entrances to lake merritt bart it was so crowded, right around the start of the parade. getting home took time, too, but the fans told us the parade was still worth the wait. a bay area father has been charged with child abuse after his daughter suffered a gunshot wound with while riding in a car with him and another man. julius miller told police he used a paint ball gun and shot at people on international boulevard on tuesday but someone retaliated and fired a real gun at a car at an east oakland intersection. the gunshot and everyone run. the girl ended up nearly two miles away with gunshot wounds to her chest. deputies found her and took her to children's hospital.

she is expected to survive. the father and driver are charged with child abuse for putting the girl in a dangerous situation. a woman walking in san carlos was hit and killed by a recycling truck. it happened at 11:30 yesterday morning at holly street at el camino rial. all lanes on holly street were shut down there to laurel street for four hours. the drivers of the truck is cooperating with investigators the police say. anyone who has information about the incident call the san mateo office. an african-american church shooter in south carolina is scheduled to appear again in court in october. dylann roof showed little emotion yesterday during the first 13 minute hearing. he is facing nine counts of murder and one weapon's charge. in the hearing relatives of the victim spoke about the attack and how they are trying to deal with the sudden loss of their

loved ones. >> she is not here with us physically, but i know she is up and above watching over us. i know that we as a family, we will get through this. >> court documents claim roof went to the church wednesday night wearing a fannie pack to hide a 45 caliber gun. investigators say he shot his victim, then yelled a racially inflammatory statement over the bodies to a witness who was allowed to survive so that person could convey roof's message. the family extended their sympathies to the families of the victims. an attorney representing roof's relatives said words cannot express their shock, grief and disbelief to what happened that night. they added they are devastated, saddened and praying for peace and healing. a boy is being hailed a hero after saving the life of a teenager that nearly drowned at the palo alto swimming pool. it happened at the palo alto

golf and country club. he noticed a swimmer had been under the water too long. there is video where you can see the two swim coaches jump in and pull the boy, austin, out of the water. a camp counselor rushed over and began cpr. >> it was a split second decision. i knew what i had to do without thinking about it twice. >> austin chase began breathing a few seconds after cpr. he is recovering from what was called a shallow water blackout. the club held a brief ceremony to thank everyone for their actions and 9-year-old jake lee got special recognition for his quick thinking, too. an investigation is under way at a water park in antioch after more than 30 children got sick at a pool. it happened on thursday afternoon at antioch's family water park on lone tree way. authorities say fire crews were called out to the park after reports of children suffering from respiratory distress. out of the 34 children that got sick, 17 of them went to the hospital but were released the
