firefighters put out hot spots tonight after a quick moving fire as it burns right through brush and several properties. >> it's just solid white smoke.

you can't see anything. good evening everyone, i'm frank somerville. >> i'm julie haener. it started around 8:00 in livermore around the area of stafford road and cross. chief meteorologist bill martin has more on the continued danger across the bay area. but we begin with cara liu who spoke to homeowners tonight, cara. >> reporter: fortunately this was a grass fire that was contained within a few hours relatively quickly. but i will tell you it was a harrowing ordeal for one homeowner who found out about this fire dangerously close to her home as she was on her way home. when she finally made it home, small patches of her property were still smoldering and still burning. with firefighters working to mop up on and around her property. >> my car could have burned and

they saved that. and they saved everything except the shed. i mean expect there was a big playground there but man they did a great job. >> reporter: friends came to help as she was stuck on the train getting home. one of them took a video after a propane tank caught fire. >> the propane tank was half full and it was all on fire. it was just bursting into flames. >> reporter: others came and got her horses. >> i'm just really glad that my horses and there was a baby kitten inside that couldn't have gotten out. i got her yesterday and my dog. i'm so glad that i got them out. thank you to my friends and thank you to these firemen, because it's a dangerous job. >> reporter: the fire was fully contained by early evening. most of the damage happened at christie governor's house. waiting to try to see her home she just tells me she was just happy to get the pets and kids

to safety. >> there were patches of fire they were getting bigger and bigger. the flames blew from her house to our house. it was just solid smoke, you couldn't see anything. >> reporter: even though there was damage and loss. both homeowners told us they were happy the fire fighters were able to save so much. the battalion chief tells us, they're still working to work on what started this fire. but they believe it started on the side of the road and spread quickly. and now we go to chief meteorologist bill martin on the 100 plus temperatures that were baking the area. >> we're in the midst of a four year historical drought. 102 in antioch. those were the hot spots. take a look at the spread we

head -- we had today. walnut creek there's a 40- degree jump between coast and inland. and as we head into the next couple of days it's going to cool a little bit. i'll give that away. but i have to tell you it'll still be hot enough inland. we have two fires in two days and it's just starting off. it's game on as we move on to the summer months. no rain expected for a while. when i come back we're going to talk about a red flag warning that will go into place over the next 24 hours. we will look at how that will impact us. it was a very hot afternoon today but race fans are not going to stay away from sonoma. this is a big weekend every year that nascar rolls into town for the toyota save mart 350. temperatures for fans will be great through the weekend. from the upper 70s to the 80s. when the temperatures go up

physical force and that one officer was actually knock out but is now recovering. police released this mug shot of 23-year-old joshua bolling of colorado. he's been booked now on several charges. police say he was putting together a shotgun on octavia and bush when an officer came to talk to him. officers had to arrest him when he got belligerent. >> with 20 patrons in there it could have gotten quite different. >> reporter: these are pictures of shotgun like the one that was confiscated. it is a diamond pigeon barreta. the imagine on the right shows more detail of the engraving. police say this type of shotgun can be worth as much as $95,000 and they're hoping that someone recognizes it and comes forward. oakland police are investigating a shooting that left one person in serious condition. police responded to 39th street and martin luther king

jr. way shortly before 6:45. officers can't confirm that's where the shots were fired but they believe the incident was linked to another accident that happened on the highway. no suspects are in custody. the alameda county's district attorney has now launch add criminal investigation into that balcony collapse in berkeley. six students died another seven were injured when the balcony collapsed last week. investigators say they found severe wood rot. all of the evidence including the balcony are in the hands of law enforcement. >> as with any criminal inquiry we will ultimately have to make the determination whether there's facts that support criminal charges. whether or not those charges could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of

law. the d.a. says she has up to three years from the day of the accident to file criminal charges. cloda clogley was one of two people injured in that accident. she posted an update on her condition on her facebook page. she says she suffered severe injuries including a broken spinal cord. she says her chances of walking again are pretty bleak. but she seems to have a pretty bright outlook. she says that she may realize that her legs have been holding her back. and she plans to honor those who died by living the happiest and most fulfilling life possible. a down power line stopped service earlier tonight. the accident happened on the pittsburgh bay point. from our camera near the lafayette b.a.r.t. station you see trains dropping people off then returns toward

oakland. a ktvu viewer sent us this photo, it shows the crowds that gathered at the lafayette station. b.a.r.t. ran a bus to get those people to their locations. the supreme court handed president obama a victory. the justices upheld a key provision of the affordable health care act. the ruling saves health insurance for millions of americans. >> the affordable care act is here to stay. >> reporter: from the white house the president praised the supreme court's decision to uphold the subsidies on his health care law. this is the second year that challenges fell short in the nation's highest court. >> we finally declare that in america health care is not a privilege for a few but a right for all. at issue in the case. whether language in the law prevents tax subsidys from being offered in the three dozen states which decided not

to accomplish marketplaces. the court decided in favor of the administration by ruling that in those states it's illegal for taxpayers to receive the obama care subsidies through an insurance exchange run by the u.s. government. attorneys of the law say the ruling went too far. >> i find that really troubling that the court would go out of its way first to twist the interpretation to uphold to constitutionality as it did three years ago then today to twist the meaning and correct a major flaw. >> reporter: about 6 million americans stood to lose obama care credits if the supreme court has ruled against the administration. legal challenges are not over. the house of representatives filed suit against the president last year arguing he overstepped his legal authority when he carried out the law unilaterally. >> the court did not rule on

the property to an acquaintance ford. >> her whole approach to me was that she was catering out of her home and needed a new location. >> reporter: but once she was in the building, she never paid the rent despite attempts to get her to. >> did you ever say, get out of here. you have to go. >> it got to that. >> reporter: bottom says things only got uglier when she went to the restaurant to ask her to leave. >> and he called the police on me. and said she was going to have me put out. >> i said you're going to put me out of my own building. are you insane. you haven't even paid for the lease. not even the first month's race. and she said it doesn't matter. we'll have to settle this in court. >> reporter: forbes fired back suing her landlord for breach of contract saying bottom failed to provide full and exclusive access to the property and even accused her

of fraud and intentional deceit. while those cases remain tied up in civil court, alameda county issued forbes a seize and assist notice for operating without a health notice. the city declared her a public nuisance with an illegal kitchen. yet she was able to sell us this for $12. >> can you explain what's going on here? >> i don't want to get into a legal issue. >> reporter: two investigates discovered legal issues is something that katherine forbes knows a lot about. >> what do you think when you hear the name katherine forbes now. >> run for the hills, run. >> reporter: she says a business went downhill when she

hundreds of people came out today if funerals of two south carolina church shooting victims. funerals were held for ethel lance and sharanda singleton. and one homeowner put the stars and stripes on display despite the growing controversy. >> reporter: on this quiet street, the stars and stripes are now flying in this front yard. but for the past few days, this

is what was here, the confederate flag and that made many neighbors angry. >> the confederate flag is a symbol of hatred and slavery and racism and i would like us to be done with that. >> it didn't have a place in our community. and he was making a statement. because it's a new flag. >> reporter: the man who's causing the uproar kilborne left a note saying in part that almost everything is offensive to somebody. we spoke to travis kilborne. he asked us not to show his face. he says he's not a racist, that he raised the flag to prove a point. >> people are talking about it. it's exactly what i wanted. >> reporter: the issue arose when dylann roof was seen in a picture waveing the flag. now that state's governor wants the confederate flag removed

from the state capital. >> freedom of speech is an important right in this country. but to do it at this moment when such a tragedy has happened to exploit, to exploit the moment and to try to get attention. >> reporter: kilborne told us he has no plans to display the confederate flag again. in petaluma, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. apple is removing games from its app store that feature confederate flags. the company said in a statement that it's pulling apps that use the flags in offensive or mean spirited ways in violation of the company's guidelines. apple is allowing other apps that display the flag in an educational way. apple following the move by wal- mart and sears to remove the confederate flag. bristol palin is expecting her second baby.

claiming unfair labor practices. they include 911 dispatchers, public health nurses and child welfare workers. santa clara county officials say the two sides are close and plan to negotiate right through the weekend. if a strike is called the county will seek a court injunction to keep workers on the job. triple digit heat today. but some cool weather is going to come back. when there will be a significant drop in temperatures in the forecast. also a massive recall involving a yoga gear retailer. the concerns tonight that lululemon tops could be dangerous.

a woman who owns beach front property has filed a lawsuit over that recent oil spill.

last month the spill blackened beaches and killed wildlife when a pipeline ruptured. the suit is the fourth of its kind seeking action. california students are one step closer to a requirement they be vaccinated before heading to school. the assembly approved a bill that would make vaccinations mandatory. that would help protect children and the entire population against outbreaks of disease. the debate to end the personal belief exemption started last year after a measles outbreak at disneyland. 136 cases of measles had been reported across the state. >> this is what we need to do to raise immunization rates and raise awareness. >> the senate already approved the bill once but lawmakers

must still approve amendments until the bill is sent to the governor. lululemon not lulumon like i said before. lululemon has issued a massive recall for a hooded top. there's concerns the electric draw cord can be pulled or catch or something and when released can snap back and cause injury to your face or eyes. the tops were sold between january 2008 and december 2014. there have been seven reported injuries. customers should contact the store to have it replaced. stock markets lost ground today. the dow fell 107 points. the s & p500 was down six. analysts blame lingering concerns over the stalled debt crisis talks in greece. after a battle with apple taylor swift decided she will put her music on apple music after all. the pop star tweeted this today. after the events of this week i have decided to put 1989 on apple music and happily so.

more exstatic about that win tonight. >> it was so great out there and so great to see all that support. deb, thanks. a warm night for baseball all over the bay area. some in the temperatures in the inland bay valleys still in the upper 70s and low 80s. these were the highs we had today. 89 in napa. 90 in santa rosa. these are the big numbers, 102 in antioch. 103 in livermore. a really hot day inland. look at the bay area. 79 in oakland not so bad. 86 in hayward. it was kind of the impression against this heat that was trying to come this way and they met right there. that's about where the line got drawn. the inland bay temperatures stayed hot. tomorrow is going to be the same deal. in san francisco everything is lit up for san francisco pride weekend. it's going to be a beautiful day for that a beautiful weekened for that as well. we're tracking the fog which is the first mechanism for the cooling. you can see it trying to get in.

it will come in patchy tonight and it will come in pretty aggressively tomorrow with high clouds as well. a cooling trend. not as hot tomorrow as it was today. 73 in fairfield, 77 in conroe. 87 in livermore valley. the wind are happening. you have 20 in fairfield. and it's the cooler has begun. today is the hottest day you're going to see for a while. there's the fog forecast for tomorrow morning. that's not super aggressive because it's not getting up over the east bay hills. even though the fog isn't pushing that far inland the on shore wind will carry the moist cooler air hotter cooler air into the valley. they'll still see upper 90s in the valley. even low 100s. but it's going to be well east of our area. tomorrow the hot spots will be in the upper 90s. as we head into saturday further cooling. the story goes like this. further cooling pushing into the sierra nevada. this system heads into the

one year ago today, tim lincecum no hit the padres. this afternoon the padres got lots of hits but the giants got more and they scored runs in bunches. a wild one at at&t. plenty of offense. already 1-0 in the first. tripled home joe panic. belt has two triples. the giants had four. first time they've done that in a game since 1950. willie mays had three of them that day by the way. they went up 5-2. the giants put it away in the bottom of the eighth. the a's alive and kicking. they're playing great baseball. that looked a lot better at 6:00 when i was hungry.
