after five decades and hundred of bay area shows, the grateful dead holds one final bash session in a hometown

stage. good evening everyone i'm heather hayes. >> and i'm the ken wayne. one of the most endearing bands is calling it quits. the grateful dead has been a fixture since the 1960s ever since jerry garcia got his pals together. they placed the city at the epicenter at innovative rock & roll. they claimed a the cult following of dead heads that followed the band throughout the country. dead heads included walton to clinton. jerry garcia passed away but his band continued to perform. debora villalon live at bay area stadium where the grateful dead's last concert is being performed. >> it's still not over.

we're still watching on the screen. with a one hour intermission this show and the one last night long. but of course fans love the rambling tunes. four surviving members and a song book that fans know by heart. it wasn't an intimate venue. a 17,000 seat stadium. but the crowds didn't care. on their feet and swaying. happy to be with other members of the tribe. it was a reunion for many dead heads. >> it was like a laser beam. it was so magical. >> unbelievable. >> reporter: people are still

talking about this rainbow that appeared over the stage during the concert. >> it was like it was raining. i was looking around like is this happening. and everybody looking around is like, look at the rainbow. >> look at me i'm jerry. >> reporter: no selfie back when this couple started their run of 150 dead shows. never waivering even after jerry garcia died. >> we were all jerry. jerry was there last night. that's where the rainbow came from. then-- and we have jerry and the band and all of us. >> reporter: he'll be at the chicago shows too. the set list includes their best known songs. their classics. although they were never known for churning out hits. >> i was given a little pill as i walked in the gates. >> reporter: dropping acid, that's nostalgia for this veteran. >> the field trip in oregon 1942 and 48 and it profoundly changed my life.

it's like a religion. you either got it or don't get it. you get on the bus and you never want to get off. >> reporter: soon the bus parks for good. the core band members insists these are their last performances tomorrow. bob and phil often get on stage frequently. but on this scale it's a memory to saver no matter when you were born. >> my friend bought a greatest hits album when we were 13 and it really stuck. it was just a little different. it had a very, i know it's cliche to say but it has a relaxed sound to it. it's soothing, very easy to listen to. >> reporter: from here the band goes to chicago's soldier field. that's next friday, saturday and sunday. that's where garcia performed his last time. those shows are sold out too. although at the start of tonight's concert out here at the parking lot you could still buy a ticket and ken, prices were dropping fast. in fact, the seats without a view of the stage they were going for free. >> wow. that is a bargain.

especially to witness history tonight. deb. thank you very much. live from levy's stadium. most of the members formed in the late 60s. most lived on ashbury street. by the end of the 60s the band reputation had spread and they played at the monterey pop festival and woodstock. in july 1995 jerry garcia played his last concert and a month later he died at a rehab center. the band played roughly 2,300 concert. an estimated 2 million people flocked to san francisco for this weekend's pride festivities. while there's always a party every year, this year the celebration was even bigger at friday's u.s. ruling of same- sex marriage. >> reporter: the song says it all.

year's festival had everything. >> reporter: a gang task force is helping investigate a shooting during yesterday's san francisco pride parade. >> reporter: an argument and a shooting broke out at civic center plaza in the city causing panic at the festival. a bullet struck a 56-year-old festival vendor reportedly in the arm. he was hospitalized in stable condition. police arrested six young men and found the reported shooting weapon. a handgun in the street. there's more reaction to the supreme court's ruling to legalize same-sex marriage. presidential candidates all weighed in. >> it's a fight i started with my husband. it was about us. and it's now had all these

implications. it's maizing it happened. >> reporter: after the state of ohio refused to recognize his marriage. it was the case that gay rights activists had been waiting for. two years ago the supreme court legalized same-sex marriage in california by refusing to overturn the ruling that found proposition eight unconstitutional. that decision affected only california. today the attorney who fought against prop eight said he was not surprised by friday's landmark ruling. >> so there's nothing new about this decision. it takes it one step further because it hasn 't been recognized before. but it's the right of two individuals to marry to the person that their most devoted to. >> reporter: conservatives including south carolina candidate graham wants churches to be able to refuse to perform same-sex marriages. >> if you have a church, mosque or synagogue and you're following your faith and you refuse to perform a same-sex marriage because it's outside the tenants of your faith you

will not use your tax status. >> reporter: a few presidential candidates are condemning the decision. >> the supreme court decisions have been heartbreaking. they've been lawlessness. >> reporter: this texas couple didn't wait and got it license friday. and today new york governor andrew cuomo participated in a marriage. >> i now pronounce you married. congratulations. kiss please. >> and plaintiff jim obergerfeld has recently been ordained so he can perform weddings and help with the

crush of weddings in his state of ohio. and police were attacked while they broke up a fight at a pride parade. the turkish government says police interfered because no one is allowed to march during the holy month of rahmadan. people in tunisia marched where a gunman opened fire friday killing at least 38 people. most of them british tourists. those in tunisia say everyone shall stand together. >> i'm here in solidarity with the victims of this massacre.

of course, i saw many many victims inside the hotel. and i had a feeling of sadness. >> reporter: the militant group isis claimed responsibility for that attack. investigators though continue to look into the role. an east bay man from tunisia say he is saddened by the violence in his homeland. kareem is in his second year. he shared pictures of one of his favorite beaches not far from the terrorist site. >> we have some bad people. they don't have education. that's all they think about is just mess up the country and blame it and say, this is for god. we're doing this for god. >> reporter: the lack of education breeds ignorance and

the three week long man hunt is finally over in new york. both of those escaped prisoners have been captured or killed. today david sweat was shot and taken into custody just two days after his fellow escapee was shot and killed. >> reporter: after three weeks on the run, the intense man hunt for two escaped inmates is over. david sweat has been shot by a new york state police sergeant and taken into custody. >> the nightmare is finally over as you know mr. matt is deceased and the other escapee

mr. sweat is in custody. he's in stable condition. >> reporter: the dramatic events unfolded in constable new york less than two miles from the canadian border. sweat was struck twice in his torso and was coughing up blood. >> being in the right area, you can only assume he was going for the border that he was that close. >> reporter: some 1,300 officers took place in the man hunt. going home to home, checking sheds, cabins and other possible hide outs. >> this was an unprecedented coming together of law enforcement on every level. we have local law enforcement, federal law enforcement, state assets all working together hand and glove. >> reporter: sweat fellow escapee was killed by the tactical unit on friday. he was armed with a shotgun. now the investigation shifts to

a fact finding mission. including how they were able to evade police for two weeks. >> a lot of spaces are unknown between the time they escaped to when they were caught. so we would like to fill in some of those spaces. >> reporter: in malone new york, rick levental. more victims of the charleston church shooting were layed to rest over the weekend. cynthia hurd were one of the four victims buried this weekend. to honor her all charleston libraries were closed on saturday. the charleston city council also voted to rename the st. andrews branch in her honor. many of her coworkers went to show support to her family. >> nobody here thought we were going to see a day like this in charleston. we came to grips that these things happen. every now and then it happens in your own homeland. and when they do, we have to

find a way to cope. >> hurd's family has set up a fund in her honor. the money will help promote educational programs at two of the libraries she managed. the church shooting has renewed debate over the confederate flag that flies over the south carolina state capital. south carolina's governor has called on lawmakers to take down the flag. at a rally today supporters to fly the flag on their homes and wear it on their clothes faced off. they say they see it as a symbol of the south's symbol and culture. >> this is everybody's heritage. not only white people's heritage, it's black people's heritage, mexican's heritage. everyone who lived in america, it's their heritage too. >> reporter: a woman was trying to climb up the pole to remove it herself, she was arrested.

several rallies were held throughout the country. this is time lapse video of bank people in athens pulling out their money. the stock market will be closed tomorrow to try to prevent a further run on banks. finance experts are blasting a plant for a new raiders stadium. floyd capart submitted the $500 million plan to city officials. the nfl and future revenues with no public funds. and kepart would get a share of the team. an expert told the oakland tribune that the plan is the worse proposal he's ever seen and would give the raiders more reasons to move. the team is yet to comment on the plan. wine country was taken over

by nascar. tens of thousands of fans filled sonoma race day for today's race. >> reporter: jeff gordon leaves here with nothing but appreciate for the fans. >> nothing is going to take away from this weekend for me. i know we didn't get the finish we wanted but it was still a wonderful weekend. still a great place to hang out with my friends and family here. >> reporter: the feelings are mutual. gordon fans everywhere you looked around. they were happy to add this to their memories. >> hometown hero guest today. and we wanted to see him this last time. >> just following him over the last 15 plus years.

streaming from the south. these clouds will be around this time tomorrow morning. for the most part just visiting clouds as we do head into your monday forecast. current numbers out there showing you lots of 50s and 60s. oakland right now checking in 61. san francisco 58 and san jose at last check reporting partly cloudy skies. 62degrees. here is our roof camera looking out toward the oakland estuary. some of the lower clouds moving back into the picture. for tonight, fair skies, coastal fog. the key headline will be tuesday and wednesday. temperatures easily topping 100 degrees for the inland neighborhoods. for tomorrow morning, here we go. some of the fog out there near the coast and near the bay. could be widespread. into the afternoon hour, clouds clear back toward the coastline. upper 80s to 90 degrees. the triple digits begin to work their way closer into the bay area. here's the plan we'll break down the forecast for your

and a big crowd showed up to honor. david regan was in the middle of action. he makes contact with truexx. finishes up in the tires. with 32 laps to go. regan in the middle of it again. he comes together with carl edwards. that was it for both drivers. regan escapes trouble but he's not going to continue in that vehicle. kyle bush made his move on jimmy johnson. bush went on to hold off his brother curt to win for the first time since that bad accident in daytona. it's the first time in the history that the bush brothers have gone 1-2 in the race. >> i can't say enough about my medical staff too. they did a phenomenal job for me in rehab to get me going. it's a great feeling. man i didn't know if this day would come this year. but man it certainly has and

to others too. >> vida's used to be here. >> we lease the space from them. >> reporter: we wanted too see if the woman behind the counter was really making and selling the food. the city, the county and patricia bottom say she shouldn't be. >> it has become difficult for me to even drive by my own building because it infuriates me that much. >> reporter: 1981, bottom's family started vida's fish market. that's vida patricia's mom. her specialty, cat fish. >> it's in my blood. it's something i've done my whole entire life. >> reporter: but business isn't what it used to be. last november, bottom says she was approached about leasing the property to an acquaintance ford. >> her whole thing to me was that she was cooking out of her

kitchen and needed a space. >> did you ever just say get out of here. if you can't pay. >> yes. >> so sorry. you have to go. >> it came to that. >> reporter: bottom says things only got uglier when she went to the restaurant to ask forbes to leave. >> she called the police. she called the police on me. and said she was going to have me put out. i said you're going to have me put out of my own building. i said are you insaid. i said you haven't even paid the first month's rent. she said it doesn't matter. we'll just have to settle this in court. >> reporter: she even accused her of fraud and intentional deceit. while those cases remain tied up in civil court, alameda county issued forbes a seize and assist ordinance for operating without a permit. the city of oakland declared

several settlements against forbes but hasn 't seen a dime yet. >> i would like to see her go to jail. i think it would be a crime. >> reporter: another business owner sought to evict forbes from another property in oakland in 2012. back at vida's we asked forbes about the other cases. she says she's the one being cheated. >> unfortunately there's people that will do unscrupulous things to people that lease properties and then use techniques to hurt them. >> i have to tell you it's eerie because it sounds like it's exactly what you're doing to them. >> it's going to be up to a jury. >> have you ever won a game where you got to stay without paying. that's a pretty good deal. >> i'm not trying to not pay. >> we recently attended a hearing for a lawsuit forbeed filed against her landlord but forbes was a landlord and the judge fined her $250. both sides are expected to be back in court next week.

eric rasmusse n. if you have a tip for the ktvu team. contact us. some scary moments for a family aboard a plane that overshot the runway in nevato this afternoon. the plane was carrying four people. the national transportation safety board and federal aviation administration investigating what went wrong. >> the damage to the aircraft appears to be one of the wings after impact has come all the way off and is laying on top of the other wings. >> now two people suffered minor injuries but all four people on board were taken to the hospital for evaluation. that airport was closed for a time while the plane was cleared. officials with the ntsb have made their way to alaska to begin investigating the cause of a sightseeing plane crash. that plane went down thursday

in rugged and terrain. roland chilen and mary dusset were from lodi. chaney was planning to propose to dusset on this plane. the crash sparked a three alarm fire. officials say the people who live in the house were home at the time but they did manage to escape safely. the cause of this crash is also under investigation. more backlash took to warriors arena. we want to show you now renders of what the drawings. the group says it has concerns about patients and health care workers at the near by ucsf medical center having to fight game day traffic. san francisco city officials are scheduled to hold a hearing on this project tuesday at city

hall. a mission to outer space ended in failure. a space x rocket bringing supplies to the international space station exploded just two minutes and 19 seconds after lift off. the rocket broke into pieces over the atlantic ocean. all 4,000 pounds of resupplies including food, water and thousands of science experiments were lost. nasa is calling the crash an anomaly after decent. >> i don't want to minimize, but from a macro level standpoint, we're all ready. the crews are ready to descend. >> this is the fourth cargo mission. the orbital series brew up in october. all of that cargo and resupply. everyone has been told to cut back on water use. coming up i'll tell you about the new project that will allow

temperatures will be soaring across the bay area. but of course we had the microclimates out there. a big temperature range we'll be talking about with the mild temperatures coast side. inland extremely hot. take a look outside right now our live storm trackerii with higher clouds approaching the san francisco area. we'll wake up to scattered high clouds first thing tomorrow morning. in add addition to the fog we had developing at the coast and around the bay first thing and

tomorrow morning. here is our live camera. we do have patchy fog developing over san francisco. more than patches in fact, and an already large cloud bank on the way. the fog near the coast and right around the bay. i'm thinking partly cloudy skies inland. but this will be the key headline over the next few days. we begin to warm things up tomorrow. tuesday easily the warmest spots. still the same deal on wednesday. and here you can see some of the snapshot of some of the forecast highs on wednesday. ukiah 106 degrees. you get an idea it's a big bounce in temperatures beginning tuesday lasting into wednesday. at least for tomorrow, we're still going to have scattered high clouds. it'll feel humid, but it will begin to feel hot. this will be the source of heat

away from the coastline for monday and tuesday. with this hot weather pattern of course you know it fire danger will really be on the increase across the entire state. including parts of the bay area as well. here we go tomorrow morning, low clouds and fog out there. a few scattered high clouds throughout the day on monday. temperatures for tomorrow afternoon, santa rosa 86 degrees. fairfield checks in 90. vacaville 93 degrees. more neighborhoods right around the rim of the bay you will see these temperatures mainly in the 70s with winds picking up around 10 to 20 miles per hour. lots of low 90s as you work your way inland. san jose 84. cupertino in the low 80s to 85. areas of fog skies becoming partly cloudy for the afternoon hours. a lot to talk about this five day forecast. you can see the big temperature range into tuesday and wednesday. easily topping 100 degrees for tuesday and wednesday. beaches though only the upper 60s to 70 degrees. there's a chance we might add

showers in the forecast on thursday. a very interesting pattern with warm and hot temperatures and a chance of showers. it could be a little muggy out there. an early look at the fourth of july forecast. partly cloudy skies and of course we'll be tracking the potential for fog out there and we look into saturday night. we would like to keep it in the very high temperatures. >> okay, thank you mark. >> thanks mark. two men were shot. another beaten and the dispute outside of a church in oakley this afternoon. police say that two groups of people were at the church and then decided to settle the dispute right there in the parking lot. the callers told 911 that there were about 20 people fighting. by the time officers arrived everyone had left. two men with gunshot wounds showed up later at the hospital. investigators say they were fighting over an incident that happened days before. meet the first openly gay player in professional baseball.
