fog is there. it's just running into too much. 50s on the temps. mid 60s already for some. inland and growth that up in middleton. already 63 there. it was 102 yesterday. that is the sizzle i expect today. i would say 105 in growth that. tiny breeze. high pressure and a lot of cloud cover could play into our weather. some patchy low clouds. 100's inland. 6:s and 70s -- 60s and 70s and 80s. >> the toll plaza it got crowded in a hurry. i'm keeping an eye on things. keeping an eye on the coo are shot it looked like everybody started to hit the toll plaza all at once. there is highway 101 things also looking somewhat busy there. this morning you can see a bit of a backup for our friends in

the south bay. and yeah you will have quite a bit of company there as you head toward the toll plaza as you make your way toward the pay gates. you can see the fast track planes. those are the folks keeping along in the middle there. they are doing okay i guess you could say for this time of the morning. but everybody else it will be slow going so everybody hitting it pretty early this morning and you saw a brief appearance by boris. okay we will go to the maps here. i will show you what things look like around the south bay. no major accidents to report in that area and that is certainly good news at the 6:00 a.m. hour. as you head up to the peninsula, a pretty good drive on highway 101 heading into san francisco. and we will also slide you out east here and we'll show you if you are coming in from the antioch area there will be slow spots on highway 4 but generally speaking not as bad

as it could be in that area. folks that make that drive always know it could be worse on highway 4. 6:02 is the time. we'll send it back over to the desk. new this morning a massive strike has been called off in santa clara county following a last minute deal over night. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us from san jose with the reason county workers are upset and what it will take to complete this agreement. >> reporter: pam, let me tell you both the county and union members from local 521 seiu they left here both happy and relieved because both sides wanted to avoid having to strike. now this really came down to the wire. both the county and the union were negotiating over night in the early morning hours trying to reach an agreement by 3:00 a.m. and they succeeded. here they are leaving headquarters happy with the deal that was reached. this union represents 9,000

county employees which include 911 dispatchers, jail workers, public health and hospital services, and social services. members were tighting for better -- fighting for better health benefits and wages and wanted staffing shortages addressed. >> for the last four years we did tighten the belt because we needed to make sure services were available to our community. i think we made great strides. the county is looking better. we are able to implement more services for the community and again we're part of that community and i think we worked to the very as you know to the very, very end to make sure that we could have averted the strike and we did it. >> reporter: we also spoke with the county executive who told us they were very pleased as well. the county had to cut back in 2008 with the recession but as part of this deal and commitment, the county does plan on rebuilding the infrastructure that was lost. now that a strike has been avoided it will be busy as usual.

the union members will take a vote on this four year tentative. you will hear from the county officials and the reaction on this decision. pam. >> all right good we look forward to hearing that. thank you janine. 6:04 is the time. fire work stands open around the bay area, buyers are warned to be especially careful because of our very hot, dry conditions. in many cities safe and sane fire works are allowed. vendors are open for business. with very hot days ahead though fire officials are reminding everyone that anything that burns can be a hazard. >> conditions this year are extremely dry. and they just need to be used in the street. buckets of water nearby. a hose. kids under adult supervision at all times. >> safe and sane fire works don't fly or explode but every year they cause fires and injuries when used improperly. a team of investigators from around the country plan to

meet at sfo today to determine why a coast guard helicopter crash landed. it happened yesterday during a routine maintenance flight at the u.s. coast guard air station which is located at the north end of the airport. officials say the helicopter was hovering ten feet above the ground when something went wrong and landed on its side. two people on board a pilot and flight mechanic walked away unharmed. >> even -- you can experience an incident and you can't take anything for granted. >> it is norrally used for rescue missions. it's not clear if it is a total loss. coast guard crews from surrounding counties are on stand by in case of a an emergency in the bay area. the apartment balcony that collapsed in berkeley two weeks ago passed inspection less than a year ago. six people died and seven people were injured when that balcony pulled away from the building. there are reports that a

private inspector gave the balcony a good rating but it's not clear how deeply the structures were analyzed. president obama is proposing new rules on which workers can qualify for over time pay. now currently salary supervisors or managers that make more than $23,000 a year can be denied overtime. the president wants to change that to $50,000 a year. critics say that will encourage businesses to hire more part time workers. she is one of the best known women on the planet. kim kardashian's appearance at the commonwealth tonight is raising some eyebrows. cara liu is lye in san francisco with re-- is live in san francisco with reaction. >> reporter: kim kardashian she is a pop culture sensation as well as a regular on the red

carpet. some would say she is famous for being famous. she has been invited to speak at a commonwealth event here tonight. the commonwealth is a prestigious forum that has hosted the likes of martin luther king junior, bill clinton, and bill gate us. she has millions of followers on twitter and instagram and a best selling app kim kardashian hollywood. tonight's event is a featured program of the club's inforum division. some of the controversy over the decision to feature her has unfolded on their facebook page. a couple of people wrote is this a joke? some question the relevance. others commented on her beauty and asked about her charity work. one comment said i love you and your family. this is being built as a conversation about the

objectification in media. this morning we checked and there were tickets for sale for members and nonmembers in the $65 to $200 range. the event will be held here at the castro theater in san francisco. it's happening at 8:00 tonight. coming up in the next hour, whether try to talk to some people in the neighborhood to get their opinion on this. we have also reached out to the commonwealth club for comment. it is number one verses number two in the women's world cup today. the u.s. can advance to the title game with a win over top ranked germany. sensitive fa began ranking female national teams that year, neither country has fallen further than number two. the u.s. has allowed one goal so far in the world cup but germany has scored 20. that is the most of the tournament. the winner will meet either japan or europe in the final.

we are following developing news out of indonesia where a military plane crashed into a residential area killing 40 people. it crashed shortly after taking off from an air base. reportedly the plane crashed after the pilot told the control tower that he needed to turn back because of engine trouble. a suicide bomber targeted a nato military convoy in afghanistan today. the taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack in kabul not far from the u.s. embassy. two u.s. soldiers suffered minor injuries. witnesses say a powerful blast shook the city when a car rammed into the convoy and exploded. also happening today this

is deadline day for greece to make a $1.8 billion payment to the international monetary fund but that is considered not likely to happen. now they are indicating it could look at greece's over all debt situation with a possible last minute deal to keep greece from default. turkey which has been a long- time enemy of greece says it is willing to expand cooperation in trade and tourism. other european countries say they are also open to helping greece without offering specifics. and we're hearing more about what happened after two convicted killers carried out a complicated escape from a new york prison. officials say david sweat is now providing investigators with information. sweat says he thought richard matt was quote slowing him down. they split up after spending two weeks roaming in a muddy area. sweat managed to get within two miles of the canadian border before being captured on

sunday. he was shot by a state trooper and is now hospitalized for his wounds. several passengers were hurt while evacuating a plane in canada. the west jet flight from edmondton to toronto was diverted to winnipeg because of a threat. the 54 passengers and five crew members on board used the emergency slides to get off the plane. six people were hurt while doing so. the airline has not released details on the nature of the wreck. the pup was spotted yesterday by onlookers hanging out on the shore. authorities believe the seal may have become stranded after the tide went back out. as you can see it was a rare sight for spectators. many of them captured the moment on their cell phones. park officials say the seal slowly made its way back to water and eventually reunited with its mother.

and good morning to salex. he is a funny guy. i went 91 today for vallejo and it will be even hotter for some. the usual suspects here. clear lake 106 that is the forecasted high. brentwood 105. clover dale 103 and gilroy at 100 degrees. high pressure switching it around salt lake city saying i think it will go west and as it does that will give temperatures a pretty good warmup. some of this will play. it's always tough to time this but it sure looks like wednesday afternoon and evening and thursday we will go mostly cloudy and possibility of some shower activity. we will deal with that tomorrow. some fog on the coast. 50s and 60s. these 60s i expect these to move out pretty quick here as we head toward the next hour. not much of a breeze but there is a little breeze. i think it will fall apart here.

water temps went down. bodega bay went 56. so we will take the colder water. 60s and 70s and 80s. 95 in las vegas and cloudy skies and a lot of moisture for the sierra nevada. look what happens by wednesday night start to get a ban in here and thursday we cloud it up. possibility of shower activity late thursday into early friday. probably north and east of us but it will be close around here as well. by the weekend the high moves east. that will allow the fog to come in and temperatures to cool down although there will be activity in the sierra if you are heading up there. lots of sun, warm to hot. patchy low clouds. emphasis on low. 90s for some. 100s. i think today is the hottest day. 80s and 90s to near 100s by the east bay. 60s and 70s on the coast. 80s and 90s on the peninsula.

other. >> the issue is one of facts and knowledge over fear and ignorance and the public health concern i think is clearly over riding. >> the bilge is now on governor brown's desk. his office has said he will give it careful consideration but hasn't said if he will sign it. the new law would go into effect next january. now that the supreme court has upheld the use of a sedative in lethal injections, two states want to resume executions. in their ruling yesterday they rejected a claim that the use of the sedative amounted to cruel and unusual punishment. it has been used in several botched executions and the case involved death row inmates in oklahoma. now oklahoma and florida have asked the courts to allow them to execute a total of four inmates. supreme court ruling has triggered a renewed attempt to resume executions here in california. california prison officials

promise to propose a new single drug lethal injection within 120 days of that ruling but many legal hurdles remain before executions can resume here in california. state law requires extensive publica new execution method. that process could actually take a year. there are 750 people currently on death row here in our state. it is getting close to 6:30. coming up a controversial cut in belmont. the racial discrimination claim over a five-year-old's hair style. >> in an hour and a half from now fireworks will be able to go on sale throughout the bay area.

[ laughter ] >> full moon is tomorrow you two. >> it looks pretty bright this morning. >> very bright in the sky. >> there will be two full moons in july. one tomorrow and again on the 31st. the summer moon will be tomorrow at 7:19 p.m.. it will be very hot inland. there is a lot of high clouds coming from the south. the coast is dealing with a lot of fog. there will be a 40-degree spread on some of these temps today. i think some of these will play into our weather. there is still some coming right up there around bakersfield and also fresno and san joaquin valley. fog is there, it's very shallow.

50s and 60s i think next hour you will see some 70s. not much of a breeze. there is a tiny breeze it's holding steady we'll see if it falls apart. today is a day of lots of sunshine inland. some high clouds warm to hot. patchy low clouds. 60s by parts of the coast yet 100s for many well inland. alex what do you have for us? >> i do want to let folks know right off the bat you have a toll plaza. we will show you what that area looks like coming up in a little bit. no major crashes we are dealing with on the maps. but a lot of areas of slow traffic. first off let me go up to sonoma county and tell you that we had a crash that happened over night. a portion of westbound highway 12 in santa rosa is now back open after a car hit a pedestrian and this area was shut down after this crash between farmers lane and brush creek road. the victim in this case was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. the cause of the crash is still being investigated this morning

and as we take you outside, we will show you first of all the foggy bay bridge. the bay bridge is is in there somewhere and the ride is pretty good as you come down 101 from marin and make your way across the golden gate into san francisco. now let me show you what things look like in the east bay. there you go. that is the east shore freeway as it comes through berkeley. that is right about university avenue at the top of your screen. sluggish traffic as you come up to the maze and head over to the toll plaza which is very busy here at 6:30 in the morning. now let's get you down to the south bay. i will show you a map of what things look like. we are seeing is many slow down in areas. the good news we see here on the map no crashes to report. so is a few pockets of slowing as you make your way up the peninsula there will be a few slow downs but no major issues to tell you about so that certainly is the good news. time to get out the door right now before things get even busier. 6:32 is the time.

we'll send it back over to brian and pam. >> all right thank you so much. new this morning happy and relieved. these are some of the feelings after an 11th hour ordeal that presented a massive walkout until santa clara county. janine de la vega is joining us with why workers were upset and what is going to happen next in complete disagreement. janine good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. both sides wanted to avoid a strike because they knew the public may suffer because of it. they spent the early morning hours here at seiu negotiating. they left exhausted but happy. and here is some video of them leaving that local office headquarters just after 4:00 this morning. the union hadn't held a strike in 40 years but yet they were set to picket this morning at 6:00 a.m.. teams from both sides negotiated over night and a

tentative agreement was released. we spoke to both sides to get the reaction. >> it's been a long month. six weeks but we did it. we were able to avert a strike tonight. we were very clear in our issues from the beginning that it's all about our community and we stuck to our principals in negotiations. we felt it was important that we used every minute possible to avert a strike because we really didn't want the community to suffer but we also know we are part of the community. >> we do have limited budgets and limited options and we have to be very creative and a lot of times it just takes the struggle in time. and we put it together and i think 521 team did a fabulous job. i think we got a really good contract. >> the county did have a contingency plan in place if a strike had occurred. even filing a court until

junction that filed 500 essential employees. but that has been all been avoided now that a four year deal has been reached. we didn't get too many details on what was hashed out but we heard they were pleased with the health care package and they will be working toward restoring services cut back in 2008 during the recession. union members are going to vote on this tentative agreement next week and then it just needs to be approved by the board of service. brian. >> all right certainly good news. janine reporting live from san jose. the upper gallery has been closed ever since this meeting back on may 5th when proponents shut down the hearing. the union that represents city employees filed a complaint against the closure. yesterday alameda county judge ordered the city to reopen the upper gallery seats. with the fourth of july holiday just days away, people

are being warned because of the hot and dry conditions. paul chambers is live in roanoke park where there is safe and sane fire works at a stand right behind you. >> reporter: that is right. this time of year people are really extremely excited and getting very happy and we'll see a lot of visitors here later this morning. but of course we know we are in a drought and when that happens a lot of people are really concerned about the safe and sane fire works. starting at 8:00 this morning, the state approved fire works will go on sale here in roanoke park. these booths may have a city permit issued by the fire department. people can buy these items up until 9:00 saturday so i'm sure you will hear some of them soon if you haven't already because some cities are selling the safe and sane fire works but with the hot days ahead, everyone knows the smallest spark could start a huge fire. that is why officials are reminding anyone that anything capable of burning is considered a hazard. >> conditions are extremely dry

racial discrimination. they want a belmont catholic school to refund their tuition money after a disagreement over a kindergartner's hair cut. five-year-old jay lynn's mother was told he would have to leave school because his hair cut was a forbidden style. officials said that it's something that is a variousuation of a moe hawk which isn't allowed. jaylin is african american so they are calling racial discrimination. he and his brother attend public school. catholic school not commenting. three current and former uc berkeley students are seeing the university of california. in a suit filed yesterday, the three women claim school administrators failed to keep them informed of the disciplinary process. a growing number of victims and their supporters believe the

crimes are not vigorously investigated by college administrators and the school simply is not doing enough. >> they need to institute protection policies, education policies. >> berkeley will tell you it is doing better now, but it is not. >> a university spokeswoman says campus officials have not seen the lawsuit and cannot comment on its allegations but that they are committed to fighting sexual assault on campus. the lawsuit does seek unspecified damages. happening today city leaders are asking for public comment on a planned new warriors arena. the new arena is planned to sit at the intersection of 16th and third streets. nurses at the new ucsf mission bay medical center are worried it will create serious traffic problems for patients, visitors, and hospital workers. they say congestion caused by arena traffic could mean patients don't get emergency care in time. the fire department has already said streets are not wide enough for ambulances to drive

up on the shoulders of the road. today's hearing 4:00 p.m. at san francisco city hall. pahlly al toe -- palo alto city council will allocate $14 million to save a mobile home park. the owner of the mobile home park wants to sell. hundreds of park residents have been fighting back to get the city and county involved. santa clara county first agreed to kick in $14.5 million. last night the palo alto city council agreed to match those funds. that money will be used in an offer to the owner in hopes of keeping him from selling to a developer. time is 6:40. san francisco's famed shreve & company is clearing out its vault and moving. it has been in the same location since 1906 but is being forced out because of rising rent. some prime corner locations in the area have seen rise in rent

authorities have identified the victim as 20-year-old fernando vasquez of stockton. his body was found around 6:30 on sunday morning. police are investigating whether he was killed elsewhere and then dumped at the park. no arrests have been made. the fall out continues from last week's supreme court ruling legalizing same sex marriage. officials in some states are actually refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples because of religious objections. in texas, attorney general ken paxton warns that any clerk, justice of the peace, or other administrator who declines to issue a license to same sex couples could face litigation or a fine. lawyers are on stand by to defend those workers for free. still legal experts hope that won't be necessary. >> if somebody has a conscious objection and there is somebody in the desk next to them that can take care of it, that is

what we should do. >> mississippi and louisiana also began complying with the supreme court ruling on monday in spite of initial resistance. in kentucky a few court clerks are refusing to issue marriage licenses to any couple as an objection to the supreme court ruling. the governor of that state says he is reviewing tow to respond -- reviewing how to respond. seattle police are looking for a man who's drone knocked a woman unconscious at the city's pride parade. the drone hit a building and fell on the woman that was standing in the crowd. she was hit in the head. she is doing okay but police took the two pound drone as evidence and they have a description of the man that was operating it. chipolte is being criticized for provocative promotional campaign promoting gays. below the question reads which way do you sway pointing to two

the commute is looking pretty good. good news is no major crashes to report but i can tell you i can assure you i've been watching the toll plaza i will now show it to you and you can see it for yourself that it is very crowded as the sun begins to rise this morning boy traffic just barely getting through there so you will have a lot of company as you make your way into san francisco this morning. leave yourself plenty of time. let's take you also to the south bay and things beginning to get a little bit slow on highway 101 in san jose. that is right there at mckey road. i want to let you know if you are coming down from petaluma right there you can see a major slow down on highway 101 near highway 116. also a bit sluggish coming across highway 37 and also quickly we'll go out this way

to our friends in the antioch, pittsburg bay point area and as you come across highway 4 there are no hes to report. just some slow traffic. steve, we'll send it over to you. it's going to be hot. speaking of our friends in antioch and pittsburg and bay point. >> i heard a lot of people complaining about highway 37. we do center fog, very foggy parts of san francisco and also on the coast and over the golden gate bridge so be careful of that. the fog is too shallow to help anybody inland. a few high clouds. in fact, there is a lot coming up that will make for another nice sunrise here. this is our time lapse. sunrise over the big city here. the last day of june and some of that low cloud deck. the full moon will be tomorrow though. it was easy no see. khloe up in clearlake 65 and mostly clear.

hot day ahead. re cell in the mission -- rikell in the mission. feels like 5:5:-55 -- feels like 52-55. i would lean on 55. the water temps have cooled down so there is not too much fog. inland it will be 90s and 100s. lots of cloud cover rotating around. some of that is camming up to san joaquin valley. generally though there is very warm air aloft. 60s and 70s. mt. diablo sitting at 81 degrees and the temperature trend compared to the last 24 hours livermore is running five degrees warmer. fairfield 6. concord 3, san jose 2. it will be a warmer day. i've seen fairfield out to port chicago around 13-18 we'll see if that holds. there is an on shore component for some. inland it will be baking with a

lot of 90s and 100s and the higher clouds look like they will play into our weather starting more so tomorrow and maybe even a cloudy, mostly cloudy thursday. lots of sun here today expect by the coast where they will deal with 60s and 70s. and the fog bank is there so it's tough to warm up in that kind of a pattern if you are by the water. if you enjoy the cool weather, go west. inland it will be very toasty for some. might be over shooting some of these but the trend is go to higher than lower on some of the inland temps for the coast. 60s and 70s & 80s and 90s. big spread on some of the high temps today. i don't think -- [ inaudible ] not only low clouds but high clouds. this looks like a one, two day event for inland temps and we really cool down thursday and friday. >> if you are heading toward the coast, bring a light sweater. if you are heading inland, bring some shorts. >> and hope you have air conditioning. >> thank you so much. it is 6:52. and we are learning some new

welcome back it's 6:55. today new jersey governor chris christie will announce he is running for president in 2016. he will make his announcement from his hometown of livingston, new jersey. he will be the 14th candidate to enter the republican primary. the state department is scheduled to release the next batch of e-mails from presidential candidate hillary clinton. this comes months after the former secretary of state came under fire for using a private e-mail account instead of a government one. the state department says it expects to complete the release of all 55,000 pages of her e- mail by next january. donald trump is threatening to sue nbc after the network announced they are cutting ties with him over his derogatory statements with mexicans. the network says it will no longer air the annual trump owned miss usa and miss universe pageants. the republican presidential candidate has also been pulled
