that will give us a cloudy afternoon. slight breeze i don't think it will hold much. the key is really the cloud cover coming in along with the low clouds so the combination of the two. there will be some sun here. it will still be hot for many and it will take awhile for areas to cool down. i can pencil in 100s but if the cloud cover thickens up i would take these down 5 degrees. all right alex what do you have for us? steve, good morning to you. i don't have any issues to report on the bay area freeways. so that is the good news. but let me just let you know if you make the ride across the golden gate bridge on a daily basis, you may be aware of this but we want to make sure everybody knows the toll across the bridge starting today it goes up by $0.25s. an extra quarter you will to fork over. if you pay by plate it will be $7.25. in the car pool $4.25.

let's take you to the bay bridge toll plaza. excuse me. we are going to two to oakland there. that is interstate 880 as it goes past the coliseum. the headlights are heading southbound. the traffic is slowing just a bit in that area as you can see but there are no problems to report. and it seems to be a pretty good time to head from downtown oakland to go south into hayward. to the maps we go. this is an area of slowing that we see every time this kind of morning. you can see through the livermore valley coming from the altamont pass west along highway 80. it's going to be sluggish traffic going through livermore over to dublin. if we take a quick look at the south bay and generally speaking things look pretty good. one pocket of slowing there on highway 101 in san jose. but over all no major crashes to report so we are looking good here at 6:02. and i send it back over to brian and pam.

>> thank you so much. speaking of the south bay firefighters will be dealing with high temperatures while they fight a wild fire that has been burning for 12 hours now. janine de la vega is live in morgan hill. >> reporter: temperatures in morgan hill are expected to be in the 90s. so stay inside if you can. something to keep in mind though another flex alert has been issued today. this is the second day in a row that cal issued the alert. asking californians to reduce power use because temperatures have been so high. it wants people to turn off necessary lights and hold off on using major appliances during peak hours from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.. the main concern is air conditioning. asking people to keep their thermostats at 78 degrees or higher. this is what it looked like yesterday at the fountains in san jose. always a popular spot to stay cool. but health officials warn to

stay in the shade and drink lots of water especially in the inland areas where it might be getting up to the triple digits. the heat is most likely going to be grueling for firefighters. they have been battling a wild fire since yesterday afternoon near highway 101 and 25. at least 150-acres have burned -- at least 50-acres have burned. once it gets light enough they may use their aircraft today. no buildings are threatened and no one has been injured. that was oneover three grass fires that broke out in the bay area yesterday. with all the dry vegetation and fourth of july coming firefighters here in the bay area are expecting it to be very busy. brian. >> yeah tough for those fire crews out there this morning. thank you. investigators blame a car for sparking a grass fire near the benicia bridge yesterday. flames spread to brush on the side of the road. forced tolanes of interstate

680 to be -- forced to lanes of interstate 680 to be shut down. the grass fire was reported just before 5:30 last night. flames were fueled by large piles of garden mulch. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. fbi investigation into vandalism on fiberoptic cables is expanding after another incident that knocked out internet and television services in parts of northern california, oregon, and washington. the most recent incident happened in livermore yesterday but investigators say vandals have been cutting cables all over the east bay for the last two years hitting every city shown there on our map. ktvu fox 2 reporter cara liu is at one of the areas hit. has the fbi said whether or not the incidents are connected? >> reporter: we put a in a call to the fbi within the last half hour to try to get more details

about what happened. we are still waiting to hear back from them. this is one of the area where is one of the recent incidents happened in alamo. it happened the second week of june in this latest attack internet tv and phone service were knocked out for customers in the sacramento area and as far north as seattle. according to the fbi fiberoptic cables were deliberately cut in livermore. workers at a software development company say they were impacted and had to do a lot of their work offline or use cell phones to connect to the internet wirelessly. >> we have never had a problem with waves up until today. not once has it been down. >> reporter: on its website it said it was a deliberate act. fbi officials say fiberoptic cables have been intentionally

cut. not only in alamo and livermore but fremont, walnut creek, berkeley, and san jose in the past year. thigh are working with local police and asking the community for help in finding the people responsible. again we have put in calls to the fbi and livermore police and some of the companies involved to try to get more information on what is going on. of course we will let you know as soon as we get those answers. >> certainly a big investigation. thank you cara. 6:07 is our time now. former state senator leland yee is set to appear in court today and a plea deal may be in the works. yee has pleaded not guilty. now yee's attorney is not commenting but a spokesman for the u.s. attorney's office says that there have been negotiations and that a plea deal is possible. yee was among 27 people arrested early last year in a wide ranging political corruption scandal.

oakland city council approved a two year, $2.4 billion city budget last night. crime prevention is a key element. it calls for 40 additional police officers. oakland hopes to eventually add 100 officers. the budget also restores compensation for employees who accepted pay cuts during the recession. the budget also includes more than $450,000 over two years to pay for a brand new department. this department of race and equity would work. healdsburg becomes the first city to increase the legal age of cigarettes. it would require anyone buying cigarettes to be 21 years old. the 15 stores that sell cigarettes predict teenagers will go to neighboring towns to buy tobacco. antismoking advocates say the other parts of the country have seen teen smoking numbers drop.

this same church was burned down 20 years ago by the ku klux klan. there will be a press conference about 45 minutes from now about the details of the investigation into last nights fire. federal investigators are looking into several other church fires that have happened since the church massacre. it is now legal to smoke and grow small amounts of marijuana in oregon. voters approved that law allowing recreational use back in november. oregon residents age 21 and old ever can smoke marijuana privately, grow up to four plants, and possess up to eight ounces at home, one ounce outside the home. four states in washington, d.c. have now legalized marijuana for recreational use. ever since apple introduced siri apple users have asked their phone all kinds of things. zero divided by zero has been getting a lot of buzz.

very presence of people that are homeless on the streets of berkeley. we think that is a terrible way to deal with people who are most vulnerable. >> we have a growing encampment on particularly telegraph avenue with lots of things spilling out. a lot of complaints from passer byes. >> there are four proposed ordnances which includes a ban asking people for money when they are at parking meters. san francisco gallery will hold a community forum later this month to discuss future plans for an lgbt mural that has been defaced three times in less than a month. the mural displayed near 24th and bryant depicts a lesbian couple, gay couple, and transgender man. vandals have spray painted over the mural but last night

someone burned it. the gallery plans to hold off on replacing the mural because of safety concerns. happening today a contractor on the berkeley apartment complex that was the sight of a deadly balcony collapse will seek a restraining order against district attorney investigators. pleasanton based segue construction does not want any evidence inspected or tested without its representatives present. legal analysts tell ktvu the request for a restraining order against the allegheny district attorney is highly unusual. >> some sort of an order making sure there is no destruction is the most likely thing they will get out of this. this broad brush request that they be present when testing take place it is just not going to happen. >> segue construction blasted investigators for their handling of evidence for the june 16th incident which included removal of the balcony that collapsed. segue says it was not allowed

to examine the debris. the da's office refusing to community. an east bay community is -- three board members have received the recall notices to start any action against them. the notices -- involving a police sergeant and a reno prostitute. walnut creek police are warning people after a series of catalytic converter thefts. the thefts happened between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in the areas of citrus and walnut avenues. thieves might get anywhere from $50-$250 for the parts but for the victims the repairs could cost as much as $5,000. the best way for drivers to protect yourself is if you can park in a locked garage.

welcome back everybody. beginning in january california school kids will be required to be vaccinated unless their parents get a medical exemption. the governor signed the bill into law yesterday. it eliminates personal and religious belief exemption for vaccines. now parents can only get an exemption with a legitimate medical reason. the law comes in the wake of the measles outbreak in disney land. opponents of the bill say they plan to sue the state if their children are not allowed to go to school because they are not vaccinated. >> police and antigun advocates are warning against new iphone accessories that might protect your phone but could also get you killed. that's what they say. take a look. it is an iphone case that is shaped like the grip of a handgun. it sold online. it's not an apple product and

60s and 70s for some. very foggy for some. i had reports of foggy conditions. kenny the heat i love the avatar by the way. that is how i thought about 5:00 yesterday. >> the heat visor. >> and vine hill east of martinez, 70-degrees with a dew point of 56. we're in for another hot one. i would agree but i think the higher clouds will take the edge off a little bit. but the higher clouds are just racing up here and there is a lot coming up from southern california. look at this. and even some rain embedded with that. i've had a couple people their barometer is showing wet or rain. that is possible. certainly by tomorrow. the cloud cover will continue to move in. it will be hot and humid inland. i think the cloud cover takes the edge off some of the temps even though there is really warm air aloft. take your pick on the temps.
