>> would you welcome at this point because of the past scandals, would you welcome an investigation of the police department. >> we have already pulled then several levels of independent investigations. we have already secured the district attorney's office to conduct not only a parallel and independent investigation of all of the criminal allegations involved in this matter, but also a review of how we conducted the initial criminal investigation ourselves. with regard to the civil and administrative matters we have secured maureen jacobs, a very experienced attorney and investigator who will be conducting an independent review under sabrina has -- sabrina's direction to look at our investigation from the beginning to both lift up this

issue and treat it with the seriousness that it deserves. >> so that is a note to having the attorney general to comment? >> i would welcome any outside assistance or outside agencies. we welcome any assistance, but i just want to be very clear that we have already secured an independent investigation as part of that request. we also required that no former oakland police department employees be a part of that investigation. >> some city council members complained they only knew about the scandal through reading it to the paper. is that how you found out? did you have prior knowledge? >> i found out this matter -- about this matter in march . i have been consistent in saying that and that is when we started the process that is

still ongoing. this investigation is ongoing. it has not been concluded. while there are many leaks of information out in the media, that actually is making it difficult for us to do our jobs of thoroughly investigating this matter in a way that can stand up in court where people do not question that witnesses were influenced by media reports in that we had the ability to hold people fully accountable for misconduct. that is what is critical to us right now. we are still in this investigation. we are unable to share information with you until we have concluded that investigation. i recognize how frustrating that is both for the media, but more importantly for the public, but i hope they can be assured that our reason for being -- our reason for not sharing every piece of information that we have right now is it literally would impede our ability to hold
