5:31 pm
a few snow showers. we're going to fall this pattern drifting into northern california and over the bay area say over the next 12 hours or so. right now we do have clear and a partly cloudy skies. the clouds have been increasing over the last few hours. already some rain showers and even some snow showers being detected. you see the white showing up. that gives you a sign to the north. a very cold air mass moving in. we have this to talk about. this is the winter weather advisory. in place until tuesday. once again the clouds already increasing. by tonight, we could have the possibility of a few pop up showers across the region. this is tonight's 10:00 then we'll take this into your monday morning. some scattered showers pays us a visit monday morning. throughout the afternoon hours, as i mentioned a big drop off
5:32 pm
in snow weathers. at least down about 2,000 feet. possibly as low as 1,500 feet. some of those showers especially in portions of the northwest. we're watching out for that but the rain showers the cold air, is low snow levels. eventually we're going to warm things up. >> all right, thanks mark. >> hundreds of thousands of people jammed the waterfront last night to ring in 2017. this is what it looked like from our bay bridge camera. fireworks as you see lit up the sky there at midnight. police were out in full force last night and did not report any major problems. an estimated 2 million people showed up to watch the
5:33 pm
ball drop there in iconic time square. a ring of 40-ton sand trucks surrounded the area. that security tactic was put in place by police. a group of people woke up to a sounds of a car crashing into the homeless encampment. the driver was arrested for hit and run and other charges. >> behind us this intersection is 27th street and martin luther king boulevard in oakland. directly behind us is the off ramp for interstate i80. chp was trying to pull up the driver for speeding on 980 but the driver did not stop. the driver kept going. went through the intersection at a high rate of speed before losing control of the vehicle and crashing into this homeless encampment here behind us.

car. >> reporter: he had brass knuckles and was driving under a suspended license. two passengers who were in the car with him were not arrested. it's fortunate no one was killed in this incident that happened here under the 980 overpass. and authorities are looking into the death of oscar grant. he was the unarmed man killed at the fruitvale b.a. r.t. station. many think that there's a barrier in america when talking
5:36 pm
about racism. replayed on multiple news outlets across the country. 22-year-old oscar grant was laying on his stomach. he was handcuffed behind his back. and he was shot by a b.a.r.t. police officer who said he accidentally pulled out his gun instead of his taser. grant's family, friends and community not only remember his life but also discuss the impact of his death. >> i wanted people to know that oscar loved people and he would want to see justice equally, people treated equally and fairly. >> reporter: performer fema was just 8 years old when oscar grant was killed. >> you could see people in the crowd saying preach and just saying that they want the
5:37 pm
community to do better. >> reporter: they want the district attorney to press harsher punishments. >> it takes a village to raise a child. it takes a community to come together to ensure equal rights are passed from one generation to the next generation. >> reporter: for a younger generation here today, they have both fear and hope for 2017. >> i kind of am afraid that there's going to be more of the same but i hope it can change. i hope that we can get rid of racism. i know that won't happen in one year but i hope it can help bring it down. >> reporter: grant's mother and uncle have run the oscar grant foundation. it works to bridge the gap of distrust between the community and police force.
5:38 pm
>> very valuable conversations that need to be had. antioch police are looking into a deadly shooting on sycamore drive. police say one man was killed another person was wounded. one neighbor was actually celebrating the new year's eve holiday when she heard the gunshot. >> having fun and just heard the gunshots going off. i opened the door to get out of here because we have little kids outside. we looked outside and there's blood all over the floor. and they slammed the door so everybody hit the door and we called police. investigators have not said what led up to that deadly shooting. officials worked to combat a fire in south san francisco on el camino real near chestnut avenue. the fire involved a clinic. no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. but the fire took them about an hour to control the blaze which
5:39 pm
caused considerable damage to the building. there's no word yet on what started that fire. gilroy police are looking for a man who broke into a home just before christmas and stole all the presents under the tree. it happened on spencer court. while the family was upstairs sleeping. at one point the burglar pulled the surveillance cam from the ceiling but not before that camera had up loaded the video to the server. police are asking for social media to help catch this guy. both the 49ers and raiders lose. and 49ers looking to make big changes. >> huge story there. their season does end but i'll tell you one of the most tumultuous offseasons it would appear is just beginning. the general manager is out and chip kelly might be right behind him. joe fonzi is standing by at 49er headquarters with a live report. you can't call it a total
5:42 pm
at 49ers headquarters, there's clean up underway. todd kelly can be gone, and there's a subplot to today and that would be the actual game with the seahawks at levi's. chip kelly awaits his fate. the 49ers give it up early as it is a fumble by sean drone actually in the hand off exchange. they lose the ball as you see. bobby wagner from the hawks recovers. they would imagine only a field goal. kaepernick comes out hot as usual. this one to drone. in a wide open spaces, good for 24 yards. down to the four. and it's a 7-3 lead for the
5:43 pm
niners as a quarterback touchdown continued right after that. a bit later. good for a 23-yard pick up and it leads to a short burst. this time starting the second quarter. and the 49ers so many games this year, built up a first quarter, early first yard lead. turn overs again, this one by dwon harris he's tripped actually. clark of the seahawks has it at the 15-yard line and he's gone. holding on to the lead. later in the second quarter, you have to see this pass. wilson kind of off his back foot on the move. look at jimmy graham like he's boxing out for a rebound. he's got it.
5:44 pm
42yards and the touchdown and from there, seattle running the ball as they should have. kap drilling it to selig for the touchdown. possibly kaepernick's last run as a 49er. they were never able to get closer to 25-23. and the seahawks riding 10 points on converted turnovers take it to the victory and we go down to santa clara right now. where joe fonzi has been standing by all day just to reiterate. we know that trent balkin had a show, made it official. he's been let go by the 49ers. chip kelly spoke at a press conference and as usual was not giving up too much information. joe, what do you know having been up there all day.
5:45 pm
>> here's where we stand. obviously win or lose take a look at the locker room on the last game of the year. that's the last time you will see all those people together. when you go 2-14 there's going to be changes from top to bottom. the reports surfaced yesterday that not only trent balkey who everyone expected would be gone but potentially head coach chip kelly would be gone in a total house cleaning. that was the report yesterday. as you said, in a kind of curious way the way 49ers do things. trent baalke still came to the stadium. he may have heard as early as friday, he still did his radio show. he confirmed he was gone. chip kelly did meet with the media. he had not officially been told anything about baalke much less about his future. he will hear his status for next year. for the time being, kelly was talking about baalke. >> chip, would you be surprised
5:46 pm
or disappointed that if you wouldn't be coming back next year. >> i don't think anything surprises me. i don't live my life, i live my life on vision not circumstances. i control what we control. if that's good enough that's good enough. if it's not good enough, so be it. it's the bottom line business. we probably didn't win enough games. >> can you imagine that it would be a bad conversation. >> yeah. >> that would be typical of chip kelly all season. from would you go back to oregon. he's faced those with pretty good humor. 2-14 is not easy for everybody. so as you heard him say there, there's going to be a meeting this evening with jed york.
5:47 pm
there he would officially learn his fate. as of this moment, there's nothing official about chip kelly besides the reports he heard for the last couple of days. we're going to hear from some of the players in the locker room about his postand how things went in the locker room. joe fonzi back to you. >> we'll talk to you a little later. maybe you can ponder what i live my life in vision not circumstance means. chip kelly mentioned that. i have no idea what he was talking about there. and we still don't know his fate. it's become an annual tradition for the 49ers to fire his coach and move on. this year they add a general manager to the mix. joe fonzi was able to talk to some of the fans that were coming to levi's stadium to see the last game of this season. hoping the team would not finish out 2-14 but as we just told you, they did lose again to the seattle seahawks. let's hear what some of the fans think the 49ers should do moving forward.
5:48 pm
>> we need a football personnel guy to be able to get in some of the talent. i think you know baalkey hit on some but he missed on a lot. >> i think getting rid of baalkey then bringing in a new coach. >> you need to start some where and i think it needs to start at the top. >> you get rid of both of them. and maybe, maybe you need to step down and bring at least somebody else newer. >> if we can get harbaugh back i wish we could get harbaugh back. i will put the dollars up for harbaugh, anything he wanted. really. >> yeah, jim harbaugh might be an improvement but he's having his own troubles with michigan trying to win a big game back there. meantime, the raiders well the black cloud is they lose. they lose the afc west. the silver lining is, they're still alive. they will be playing a play off
5:49 pm
5:51 pm
here's the real story. you lose a guy like derek carr bottom line is that is really tough to make up for. the offense you knew was going to struggle. matt mcglowin getting his first start at quarterback. first quarter scoreless game. devonte booker 11-yard scamper as the broncos march right down the field on their first possession. 7-0. watch this, this is weird. mcglowin going from michael
5:52 pm
crabtree. can't make the catch. both jawing at each other and talib tries to rip the chain off. mcglowin would tough out the series but would leave with a left shoulder injury. obviously he's in pain. he would not return. his status for next week's game is unsure. booker short pass on a third and long. booker untouched. book 43 yards for the touchdown. jack del rio's expression pretty much says it all. untouched on third and long.
5:53 pm
that hurt. if there's any silver lining it's bleak here. conner active for the first time this year. conner-cook, amare cooper. cook never played a down in the nfl so you have to give him credit. 14-21 for 150 yards a touchdown. an interception and fumble. meanwhile mcglowin six for 11 and 21 yards. what does it all mean right now for the raiders. it means the kansas city chiefs are going to win the afc west. it's a disappointing to say the least. all the raiders had to do was win and the division was theirs and they would have a biweek. instead it's victory for the chiefs to give san diego as it will be alex smith finding west for the touchdown. 3yards out. wide open, chiefs go up 27-17 and it gets worse.
5:54 pm
tyreke hill. what a big play maker he's developed into. again on the punt return. 95yards. he's got the blocking, he's got the speed for the 95-yard td. 34-17 chiefs and the kansas city chiefs take the afc west. and they instead will have that bye for the first week of the play offs. the goal of wining -- winning the west does not come to fruition. the patriots and tom brady and company as they go easily into the play offs looking good with only two losses. michael floyd. a guy they picked up after he was released for arizona after a dui. and look at michael floyd just bully his way into the end zone. tom brady by the way, 25 of 44. 276yards and three touchdowns and here is brady again making it look easy. but how about julian edelman. a couple of bay area products
5:55 pm
picking up. you have to look at the replay of this touchdown. because michael floyd lays out a block. the patriots rich and getting richer. they just picked this guy up a couple of weeks ago. and the patriots march on to an easy victory over miami and they finished the season 14-2. we're going to go back to santa clara right now. joe fonzi standing by. you were in the locker room joe. the over all mood i was watching it on our satellite feed down there. it just seemed gloomy and it has become kind of an annual tradition. last game of the year for the last three years. coaches status in jeopardy. and it's an overall bummer to say the least. you were there. how did things feel inside that locker room? >> no you hit it mark. the 49ers are reaching a time that is almost a record time for lack of continuity as far as franchise is concerned. you can't change coaches every year and expect to be effective on either side of the ball and
5:56 pm
that's potentially what they're facing again. and there is kind of a feeling in the locker room after a season like this. obviously the players know there will be changes. and yet they don't know what those officially are. i've kind of likened this to last year. when john tomsula got fired they didn't do anything official about this time of the night when there's still media around. when everybody cleared out came the announcement that he had been fired. that seems to be the way that the 49ers do things. i don't know if that's going to happen with chip kelly. what we do know as he said in his press conference. if he has a meeting that is scheduled with jed york. and he doesn't know what the status of that meeting will be. the players obviously know that as the result of a 2-14 season there will be offseason changes. >> he's a good dude. honestly the business side of it. i think he's a good coach. i think he's a better person. but that side is business. there's plenty of good people in tough spots. when we lose, like you know
5:57 pm
like we did and had a season like we had. changes are made. >> i saw that last night. the report came out. so nothing official. we haven't been told anything. the situation around here is unfortunate and frustrating. obviously not the kind of season we want to have around here. >> i appreciate chip and you know what he does on a daily basis. regardless of the circumstances. i make sure i go over. i give him a hug before every game. and you know to me, he's someone that the resilience he's shown with the circumstances that have gone on this year, you know i appreciate that. >> well, you heard what kaepernick said there. and i can't say anything official. only what you can potential read between the lines. i asked some of the players in the locker room did he say anything that would maybe make you think this was a goodbye to your players or anything like that. nobody said there was anything like that. he did in his media session kind of single out the beat
5:58 pm
writers who he sees every day and said i want to thank you for being as professional as you've been all year. that's the closest thing i saw to any kind of official goodbye. but we do know for a fact that there will be changes with the 49ers. again to reiterate. they have not announced anything official as far as trent baalkey is confirmed. he confirmed on his radio show he had been fired and there's nothing official yet with chip kelly. mark you hit on it the 49ers are approaching a time in their history that equals one of the most inconsistent times ever. you can't keep changes coaches ever year. you have to go back to 1975, 76, 77 and 78 leading up to bill walsh where he had one of the season changes. to find a time where there had been more head coaches over a short period of time that is no way to build a football team we all know that. we're standing by. we'll let you know if anything happens. but as of yet nothing officially announced by the
5:59 pm
49ers. although trent baalkey has confirmed that he is gone. >> while i have you there. what do you think about kaepernick. you would think he would do a little cost analysis there. i don't think he would return either, what's your thought on that? >> that's another thought: he's the one that controls his own destiny. he can opt out of his contract as he would like. we all know that the franchise quarterback is the most difficult position to fill. whether a person coming in will want to inherent kaepernick with that salary. will there be another team out there who potentially wants to pay that much or more. if you put my feet to the fire i would think there's changes coming includeing to the quarterback position. >> that is joe fonzi from santa
6:00 pm
clara where the 49ers have not made an official announcement. if you go by past history, they wait till everybody clears out and then they will make a press release so there will be no one to comment on it. and chip kelly wasn't about to say anything about his coaching staff. >> you and i both talk and you do not expect chip kelly to be around again next season. who do you think might come in as the 49ers new head coach? >> yeah, that's the amazing thing. i'm always a proponent of not firing a manager in baseball, a coach in basketball or football. until you have somebody in mind particularly -- >> somebody lined up. >> and particularly the 49ers seem to ready, fire, aim. you know what i mean. have somebody in mind but in this case it appears that they are just anxious to make a change and let the cards fall where they may. i'm going to go out and say that i would guess that they
