area. rainfall, nothing too extreme just yet, but it is what is developing offshore that we are concerned with. santa rosa, nearly an inch and a half of rainfall. san raphael, over an inch. if you can't see san francisco and napa nearly half of an inch. a completely different story setting up for tomorrow. santa cruz mountains picking up the most rain so far. you can see boulder creek, 2.23 inches. they're going to pick up quite a bit more rainfall as we head into your sunday, convenient later on tonight. so here is the radar over the past 1 huers as you come in closer. a lot of clouds in place. not much in the way of argued rainfall, but there is some rain just to the south of gill roy and also to the santa cruz mountains as well. heavy rain in the forecast and as a result, a flash flood watch issued already. this could be converted to a flash flood warning if the rainfall rates do verify it. as high confidence, we're expecting extreme rainfall rates tomorrow morning, flash flood watch until sunday evening.
6:02 pm
talking about the rainfall rates, you cannot see the rain tubes really going up. later tonight and especially sunday morning, 3:00 to 7:00, possibly 10:00 into the morning as well, into sunday and then finally scaling back a little bit later in the day. but we could have some flooding concerns all across the entire bay area and a sampling here for the russian river, and also napa river, watching the creek, the creek in palo alto and the felton area as well, flood willing be a concern for all of those areas. you get the idea, silt bay area wide. 9:00 tonight, we could have more rainfall increasing and this is the area of concern, the time frame of concern. sunday morning, the yellows and oranges working their way back into the region. this will cause some problems for sunday morning and possibly beyond. we'll talk more about this system as the rainfall rates continue to intensify early sunday morning. >> thanks a lot, mark. all of this wet weather may have played a role in a fatal

accident in ran ramone. it happened just before 11:00. the investigators say a woman was walking through the golf course when a tree fell and hit her. she was rushed to san ramone regional medical center where she died a short while laterment fortunately no one else was hurt. >> all southbound lane offs busy east bay freeway were close forked little while today. blocked for a fallen tree, it happened at about 2:10 and you can see that tree there completely split. call train say it appeared the recent rains helped loosen the roots of the huge luke lip advertise tree. the freeway lanes were reopened. there were no reports of any damage. and a large portion of the road just gaveway earlier this week. and it will now be shut down indefinitely due to wash-out conditions there. the closure affects the area between deer park road just

east of st. helena no word yet on when the crew also start all of this repair work. the rain is expected to come down pretty hard in the santa cruz mountains and that's where ktvu's lee martinez is standing by with the threated of mudslides and the conditions there. lee? >> reporter: and the last time we talked was 4:30 and it is pretty much more of the same expect now it is much darker. the rain is coming down not very hard. i would describe it more as an ocean mist that just doesn't quit. this is summit hill road and up this road is where we had the wildfires in the summertime. we did go exploring a little bit on both ends of summit road and so what we saw when we went up summit to the other side that didn't have the fire, that was the side that was spared in the summer wildfire, but even here, jaw 15-minute drive in, we noticed several spots accumulated lots of water already. a homeowner from further up the mountain says that it has been raining pretty much non-stop since this morning and says that there were landslides.
6:05 pm
>> on the road coming down here, there was two mudslides, rocks, i had them drive around the middle of the road. >> reporter: he drove down the road to pick up his wife who was with her sister at a harrah pointment earlier. he said he didn't want his sister-in-law driving up that summit just because it is a very windy road and it is pretty dark up there right now. there's not much light out there and, of course, the conditions trying to get around some of those landslides, as he described. back out here live, we are seeing several cars come down. we have also seen several pg&e trucks going back and forth. we just asked are you making service calls. no, we were just told to stage out here so we have been doing runs back and forth just to make our sure that everything is okay. talking to pg&e earlier, they said their main concern was the wind than the wet weather. they said with some of the winds and all of these trees around here, that can take down
6:06 pm
power lines very easily and that is their main concern today. >> of course, you know, we were talking about the mudslides, we're talking about pg&e's main concerns. and in terms of what you have seen so far, are you? thinking that a lot of the homeowners are kind of bracing for this? are you thinking that they're thinking, hey, it is another storm we'll be okay? >> reporter: well, the homeowner we talked to, he just moved squaw couple of weeks ago. he was a little familiar with the area, but he says he really didn't know what he was getting himself into until last week when we saw snow. he said one day there was absolutely no weatherno wet weather, no snow and the power just went out for a full 24 hours that was his first indication that, okay, he is not very familiar with what goes on up in these mountains so he bought a generator yesterday. they really don't know what to expect. they are pretty much will be hunkering down tonight and waiting out the storm this weekend. >> that was a good purchase
6:07 pm
that generator. thank you. and already a tree falling on a power line this morning cut off pow tore the san jose airport a live look now where the pow ser back on, but part of the airport -- power is back on but part of the airport lost power and they had to switch to the back-up generators. fortunately it didn't last long that power was restored about 10 minutes later. more problems at sfo, some airlines started canceling flights there bus of the weather and the shootings in florida. an sfo spokesperson tells us there have been 261 flights delay sod far today and 74 canceled. and all roads leading to the floor, the yosemite valley are closed this weekend because of the storm. the campgrounds and the hotel are also shut down. the rangers are keeping a close eye on the river that flows through the valley to make sure it doesn't overflow. the valley floor has experienced severe flooding there before. road also remain closed at least through tomorrow as a precaution, and the rangers

the back-up, and it wasn't that pretty. gentleman dave i can't be clowney -- gentleman daveian clowney flexes his muscles and they scored off of that one. 1:20 to go to halftime, osweiler and the 20-7 lead. the raiders just five first downs, 75 yards at the halftime mark and jack del rio sticks with cook. and maybe he was more dinged up than we thought. maybe he wanted to see what this guy could do. even when he passed well to cooper, the pass was dropped. his receivers certainly didn't help him in. in the end, 18-45, 161 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions. osweiler, meanwhile, he was booed by own team a week ago, but he played well now have get it done no mistakes. the texans win this one fairly easily 27-14. the raiders just 203 total yards and del rio, he had to be
6:10 pm
thinking about what could have been if carr was out there, but after the game, he wasn't talking about that, he was taking more of a big picture approach. >> well, i don't think you can eliminate the abrupt ending you don't want, but i don't think you can dismiss what we accomplished, and we had a great beginning. 12 of our first 15 games, so that's outstanding. as i told them in there, i said this is just the beginning. we're just getting started. we need to learn from what we feel, experiences that we had throughout this year. both good and bad, and learn from it and go forward. ready to do more. 12-4, something to build on. in about a half hour after the game ended, derek carr, the quarterback tweeted out, so thankful to play with this team. i love my teammates and how hard they work. i can't wait to get back with them and get to work and, coming up, in about 15 minutes,
6:11 pm
joe has been in houston and he is going to be live joining us, and he is in the locker room. he is talking to the players. you might be surprised. they're not that dejected although a few of them are, but they're really looking ahead to next year. >> despite what some people think, they are going to be playing next year as oakland raiders. >> yes. they're not moving to las vegas. lets's pump the brakes on that a little bit. the owners are going to vote on that coming up possibly in march. we don't know the timetable for the vote. but even if they do vote for las vegas, they have at least with the coliseum, they still have to build that stadium in las vegas, so they would be here for probably two more years at least. we shall see. >> hopefully 2017 will bring them some better luck later on in the playoffs. >> thank you. we'll have more on the major storm approaching the bay area. we have been talking about it for a while. also, new developments in the fort lauderdale airport shooting. the charges filed today against the suspect. and saving obama care.

hollywood international airport is back open after a mass shooting left five dead and several injured. the prosecutors have now charged the suspect, esteban santiago with an act of violence resulted in death that charge could possibly carry the death penalty. we have the latest. >> reporter: the investigators are not ruling out terrorism as a potential motive behind friday's deadly shooting here at the fort lauderdale airport. >> we have interviewed him, but it is way too early for us to really rule out anything. we're looking at everything, including potentially terrorism related. >> reporter: as authorities continue to investigate the airport shooting, 234r5á flay governor rick scott -- florida governor rick scott meeting with the victims being treated at the hospital. >> the person responsible for this, this act will be brought to justice to the full extent of the law. >> reporter: chaos erupting friday afternoon when an airline passenger identified as the 26-year-old esteban santianed fire in terminal two of the busy fort lauderdale airport.
6:16 pm
>> last night was just purely chaos, but we was here yesterday, people was running out. >> reporter: five people were killed in the attack. some shot point blank in the head and six others wounded. after santiago ran out of ammo, he reportedly laid on the terminal floor and then taken into custody. last year the suspect was discharged from alaska's army national guard for unsatisfactory performance. >> he said he was hearing these voices, that the government of the united states wanted to tie him up with certain groups so he would be part of isis. he was very paranoid. >> reporter: the fbi announces today that the 26-year-old iraq war veteran will face federal charges. reporting from fort lauderdale airport, joel wardman, fox news. a man suspected of a deadly stabbing in berkeley has been arrested in burbank. 24-year-old pablo gomez of north hollywood was taken into custody today in southern california. he was wanted in connection with a homicide and stabbing that happenedyard. the homicide victim has yet to

be identified by police. the stabbing victim is said to be recovering in the hospital. and bay area congressional leaders held a press conference in san francisco today to talk about what they call the harmful impacts of dismantling the affordable care act. >> we are not going to stand by and let president-elect trump and the republican majority and the house and the senate make america sick again. >> the congresswoman was joined by east bay congresswoman barbara lee. the gathering at san francisco general also included medical experts and people who said they had benefits from having the health care. the speaker said the affordable care act ensured that health care was a right and not a privilege and repealing it would end health care for some 30 million people. >> nancy pelosi was there as well. we have weather issues and another massive winter storm is causing problems. on the other side of the country, both snow and ice have been hammering the northeast. it is a storm that has already
6:18 pm
crippled the south as well where thousands are without power and the weather has created travel nightmares. some say north carolina is seeing as much as 10 inches of snow. >> and hurry up and get gas and get home and things like that if you're not used to it, you should definitely stay home. >> we'll try to stay in most of the weekend and avoid the roads. >> especially if you don't have four-wheel drive, don't get out on the roads because it is unnecessary if you don't have to. >> and traveling by air was no easier. welt-related issues have -- weather-related issues have caused traffic to be delayed and it has been gnarled in multiple states. you know what it means when we have all of this rain in the bay area. it means snow. they were expecting two inches of fresh snow today. it is a welcome sight for skiers and snowboarders who missed out on time on the mountain because there was no snow due to the drought spho. we love seeing all of that snow. we love getting the rain
6:19 pm
because of 2 drought, but we just don't love getting it all at once. >> too much. >> and it is all just starting. meteorologist mark has been tracking the storm and he has the latest. >> yes, tomorrow we're concerned. you probably noticed some warmer temperature this is afternoon. that also boosted the snow levels up in the sierra. as a result, they did not only pick up snowfall, but also some rainfall right around lake tahoe as well. the snow levels going up above 8,000 feet. the radar is very active this morning. right now some cloud ifs place. you can still see more development offshore and we'll move the maps around. all of this action, this is what we'll be moving into the region later on tonight, but especially as we head into tomorrow morning. here is the wider perspective. the one thing i'm watching is this guy, this enhancement here in the pacific. as this works its way close to the bay area, that will be the sourcement we have the moisture in place and the dynamics. you can get excessive rainfall
6:20 pm
and that will be in the forecast. we already have a call to have a flash flood watch. this could be converted to a flash flood warning. this is in place for sunday evening through a good portion. san francisco is at it as well. essentially for most of the bay area, except for the inland east bay out toward contra costa and alameda counties. a high wind warning for the higher elevations, so the winds will be ramping up tonight and into your sunday. as far as the rainfall timing, you can see we're going to ramp up the intensities later tonight. 11:00 tonight and then extreme rainfall rates. 3:00 a.m. sunday, possibly 7:00 a.m. sunday, and i'm going to have to keep an eye for the mid morning hours as well. you get the idea we're talking about some very intense downpours first thing tomorrow morning and rainfall expectations, including the rainfall we had today could be approaching 10 inches for the santa cruz mountains and flooding will be a concern bay area wide. and the coastal hills, they
6:21 pm
typically pick up the most rain because the terrain actually forces the clouds up more and you can squeeze out more rainfall. that's why we have the rainfall. it could be around eight to 10 inches. we talked about this just a few minutes ago, i should say and flooding possible across a good portion of the region. taking a look at the russian river at russian germanyville. it could be cresting at flood stage monday afternoon at 35 feet. and here is the napa river at napa, possibly up above flood stage as well for napa river. so here is the plan in san francisco. at 3:00 a.m., so we're going early tomorrow morning. heavy rainfall expected. heavy rainfall, that's what our sky cast model is thinking and still rainfall likely 6:00. and here is the forecast models. we do put this into motion. later on tonight, the rainfall rates do pick up. 10:00 tonight. this is what we are concerned with. sunday morning, the yellows and the reds really popping up. we don't see this too often here in the bay area.
6:22 pm
9:00 sunday morning so we will have urban and small stream flood advisories. possibly flood advisories as well. things begin to back off later sunday and into sunday night. a look ahead to your five-day forecast, showers into monday, the rainfall likely into tuesday that will be an ordinary system, but the one that will not be ordinary, tomorrow morning. very intense, and just be ready for that. >> we really need to get ready. >> if you can avoid travel on the roadways, especially the first half of sunday, it will be a good call. >> look out in the north bay. >> thanks a lot, mark. all right. and jason is coming back. more from the crushing defeat in houston. we hear from the raiders as a promising season is over. jason applebalm with all of the sport high rights, next. -- highlightses, next.

>> and jason applebalm is back now with sports. well, the first playoff game in 14 years for raiders. it didn't go the way they warranted it to, but without derek carr, it was a tall order. the raiders said all of the right things coming into the game. the next man up. win it for carr, but in the end just too tall of an order for the rookie quarterback connor cook to come in. he became the first quarterback in nfl history in the super

bowl era to make his first nfl start in a playoff game. already 20-7 in the third. del rio sticks with cook. at times he was way off target like this pass behind roberts and when he was on target, many of his passes were dropped that was a great pass to amar'e cooper but it slipped through his hands. 18-45, 161 yards, three interceptions. he did throw for one touchdown, his first touchdown in the playoffs obviously. that touchdown iced it for houston. brock osweiler makes it 27-14. the raiders' season ends with the record of 12-5, and it may have been different with carr out there, but today the defense just wasn't good enough to overcome a horrid offensive performance. joe fonzy was there. he saw the game up close and personal, and he was in the locker room. joe, take it away. >> reporter: jason, we talked about this for some time about how the raiders were not 100% because of derek carr, and then they found out that two members of their starting offensive
6:27 pm
line would not be in today's game. there is no doubt about the fact that the texans did not the first-class version of the raiders. but the raiders ew they had to do one thing and they couldn't afford to do another. they knew they had to rush the ball well. they didn't do that. just three first downs rushing. then they knew they couldn't turn the ball over and clowney tipped a connor cook pass, gave the texans the short field. they scored on a four-yard touchdown. just like that it was 10-0. the raiders playing from behind. they knew they couldn't afford to be in that kind of a game. >> houston defense knew that coming in, and they did a great job. they really played well, and, you know, we have to take our hat off to those guys. all of the different things they flew at us. >> we have to finish. that's what we have to take from it. you can have the best regular season, but the post-season is even more important. you have to win. >> for myself, i looked at it like i was going to come in here and play really well. i was confident in the game
6:28 pm
plan. i'm confident in, you know, the guys around me that i could rely on them and sometimes try to do too much sometimes. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: the big picture, a positive season, something to build on for the future. lots more tonight at sports wrap at 11:00. until then then, reporting live from houston. back to you, jason. >> absolutely. joe said it. something to build on for next season. 1-5, a great season for the raiders. >> thanks a lot, jason. we'll see you tonight at 10:00.

we're back! funniest thing-- stella fell in love with this dog on our walk, just stared at it lovingly. turned out to be her reflection in a hubcap. i got an "a" on my history exam, by the way. really, you're competing with the dog? don't let it bother you, girl. jay, we need to talk. i went to an allergist today, and he thinks that joe's rash is an allergy. what a surprise-- an allergist found an allergy. he thinks he might be allergic to stella. the only reaction this dog gives people is the giggles. i mean, when she tried to lick her own [laughing] face... in my village, if a goat acted that dumb, we wouldn't even eat it. this allergy thing is very serious. we need to separate them for a week to see if the rash goes away. i don't know if i can go that long without seeing joe. not joe! the dog! i already called mitch and cameron. - they're gonna take her. - for a week?! she'll be traumatized! she's very sensitive! she scrapes her butt on the driveway. why don't you like her? she's never done anything to you. ay, look! my face cream!
