a wet and windy weather system moves through the area. thank you for joining us for this special edition. a wet winter storm is delivering another dose of rain to the bay area. this is just the 1st in a series of storms. let's go to chief meteorologist bill martin. >> we haven't rain falling. a few hours ago, the heaviest rain. now we have scattered showers. we do have a winter storm warning in the mountains. frontal passage here, now you see the scattered showers in behind the front. the heaviest of has gone through. as we look around the bay area you can see in the north bay we saw over a half-inch of rain. it is a fair amount of rain. most areas around san francisco, 1/10 of an inch of rain. other areas maybe 2/10 or 3/10. it was a relatively light rain event. the rain is still falling. mara morning there will be more scattered showers as we go

developing a fremont. a deadly police shooting. >> what have you learned? >> reporter: we know that there was a police call to this area and that several police officers responded. fremont police are calling this an altercation but they did not elaborate any further. the investigation is being conducted outdoors on the south side of mary avenue. fremont lease say an officer shot and killed a man after confronting him. the officer was taken to the hospital for medical attention of his injuries are unknown. there was no gunfire exchanged. the officer was not shot at. it's unknown if a weapon was recovered. there was some kind of

incident that occurred. an altercation. one of the officers contacted one of the suspects involved. at that area and that location is where we have the incident leading to the officer discharging his firearm. where the suspect was actually shot and pronounced dead. the officer himself was also transported for medical attention. as a result of the incident. >> >> reporter: the sheriff's corner will be coming out to assist in the investigation. fremont police say they are no outstanding -- there are no outstanding suspects. marion avenue will remain closed at logan drive all the way to blake road. it will be closed for several hours. fremont police say this is the 1st homicide of 2017. >> do we know, was the suspect in a car or on foot?

>> reporter: we do not have information at this time. the public information officer we talked to said he did not have that information handy. they are keeping the suspect identity under wraps. they have to make identifications to the next of kin. we do not have the suspects identity or any more details. >> leigh martinez in fremont. in san jose police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who slammed into a man changing a tire on interstate 280. it happened at 4 am northbound to 80. place say the victim had stopped on the right hand shoulder and was changing the left front tire when he was hit. they say he suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital. the suspects vehicle is described as a 2006-2013 red toyota corolla with damage to the right front bumper. fog light and fender. in oakland the highway patrol says witnesses helped officers find an alleged

arsonist set this car on fire. the chp says the witnessed help them -- the witness help them locate and arrest the suspect. he was booked in several charges including arson. investigators are trying to find the owner of the car in figure out why it was set on fire. it has been in the headlines. a janitor making more than a quarter million dollars in 2015. >> dozens of others have made more than $100,000 in pay and benefits. what is going on? ross has uncovered some serious issues you will see only on fox2. >> 49 janitors made more than $100,000 that year. we began looking into exactly how they did it. it has raised serious questions after we found something on surveillance video and discovered something was missing on some timecards.

we found that the highest-paid janitor in all of 2015 made $57,945. he made an additional $162,000 in overtime. bringing his total pay and benefits to 271,248 bringing his total pay and benefits to $271,248. we examined his timecard and found he was paid for every single day that your. every single day. most of it was working in overtime. some was vacation, holidays or sick days. on many days he worked 17 hours . in one stretch he worked 17 hours a day for 18 days in a row. >> superhuman. >> is that even possible? >> the average reaction is, how is that possible? >> we asked the highest-paid janitor what we found and how he was spending it. we took a close look at his extra work and for this surveillance video we're going to tell you what we found. we have spoken with the part general manager -- >> reporter: general manager.

is here having -- after having a conversation with carmen policy. >> it's a huge week for the 49ers. they are expected to introduce a new coach. after kyle shanahan wrapping his duties up as the offensive coordinator for the atlanta falcons, it didn't go the way he figured he will be asked about his 2nd calling. we are going to turn our attention to the future. and what to expect from the 49ers. and a brief look back. i had a chance to visit carmen policy yesterday, and here is a little bit of what he had to say about interesting aspects of the 49ers going forward. >> he is a very personification of class, integrity and taste. and just like the fine wine produced on his total estate, in the heart of the napa valley, carmen policy only gets better with time.

after high-level involvement in professional sports for the better part of the last 40 years, he has seen it all. particularly with the team closest to his heart, the san francisco 49ers. who best to sit down with an ask the most pertinent questions regarding this team, and carmen himself. starting with, what has happened to this franchise over the past 2 or 3 years? >> i think there's a lack of harmony. there is a lack of open communication, some of the people there were good communicators. people started getting into each other's we and became in some ways a tour for. it's such a shame. it's a shame this brand, this franchise is not being maintained to some high degree of acceptability. i do want to say depressed, it's not quite that bad, but i feel pretty forlorn. >> john lynch, no experience as

a general manager, yet the 49ers in this precarious position right now have decided to go with them, your thoughts and what you know of john. >> i like john. david the coach at stanford said, the man has never failed at anything he attempted. steve mariucci made a comment that got to me in a very positive way. when they were grilling steve about his experiences dealing with mcmillan went from being player, broadcaster to general manager, and i think everyone probably even met would agree crashing. he said john lynch will listen. a lot better than he did. >> shanahan figures to be a better communicator as well. someone he is familiar with from way back when. >> seeing him running around

the building before he was in high school. he was a ballboy force. he always seemed that he was paying attention to what was going on.: i talked to. everyone said he's intuitive and intelligent as a coach. i have no internal knowledge of negotiations that were engaged in by the 49ers and shanahan, but have a feeling john lynch was shanahan's selection. and what's going to happen, you're not going to have a conflict that you might otherwise have with the young new coach coming in with no head coaching experience whatsoever, facing the old salt general manager who knows all the answers and who has been through it so often. the situation has a chance of coming together and the way the 49ers have always come together. i'm excited about it. it certainly exciting.

championship and he finally cracked a smile. those nice to see. and obviously such a great night for the new england patriots. and equally difficult night for the atlanta falcons. they were in their 2nd super bowl ever trying to pull out the victory. unable to do it. at the end of the 1st quarter, 21-3, i went it was up. at the end of the 3rd with 2 minutes and 7 seconds to go, atlanta was still up 28-3. that game was tied going into overtime at 28 all. new england outscored them with 31 unanswered points to go on to win 34-28 in the most historic super bowl ever. >> what a remarkable game. tom brady and company perfect example of what you would say, why it's important to never

mudslide. the highway patrol 1st heard about it at 11:15 pm last night. it happened over the county line. authorities are expecting the highway to be shut down for several days, possibly until friday. no question this winter has been whether than usual and it's caused a lot of problems for bay area roads. there been inconveniences in life training closures. , a landslide has closed a 2.5 mile stretch of highway 1 between panoramic highway and near beach. ken wayne joins us now. the community of muir beach may feel the impact for months to come. >> it could've been worse. residents now have a light at the end of the tunnel. a few days ago they had no idea how long they could remain cut off. anyone who lives with an ocean view is blessed with stunning scenery and the risk of forced isolation. >> we are living on the edge but we knew that when we moved there. we didn't want to be on this much of an edge. >> the 350 residents are

completely trapped. they are definitely more cut off. their primary access in and out is highway 1. this is what that road looks like now. heart of it is torn away after a landslide from last month's powerful storms. >> we are used to that. we knew that when we moved in. >> chris is the assistant fire chief for the muir beach a fire department. the closure of highway 1 is not only inconvenient, it reduces emergency response time. his firefighters and paramedics are the 1st responders for the million or so people who visit each year. >> it's about 70 percent of all responses to muir woods. >> frustrated residents started a campaign after caltrans said it could be a month before the road is fixed. now caltrans says work has been

extradited and the main access should be finished by me -- april 1. >> that is why we are going as fast as we can. >> from mendocino county to big sur, sections of highway 1 seem to suffer closures from stormy weather. some closures last a few hours, others for months. caltrans says it's a constant battle with mother nature to keep the highway open. >> highway 1 is a coastal highway and it's very vital. that is one of the challenges we face, it's a necessary and vital road. but it's also subject to storm damage. >> the next job is to repair your words -- muir woods road. if the county road. the hope is marin county, the national park service will work together to get it repaired sometime next year. when you live on the coast, that is what you live with. >> a busy time for caltrans. more weather around here,
