>> reporter: after months of examinations and work, engineers have said the trans bay transit center is safe to reopen. >> we are happy to report it will reopen to the public. it won't mean bus service on the first day but people can enjoy the free activities. >> reporter: the center closed after cracks were discovered on support beams in september 2018. engineers are working to figure out what worked went wrong. they have met to hear the latest details on when commuters will flood in and out of the transit center. >> look for early july dates. later this summer, they will begin service as well as other operators. >> reporter: waiting at the temporary bus center, commuters want to make sure the new bus center is safe. >> i'm glad they are reopening it. >> people can have a lot of confidence. expired outside experts it's a.

>> reporter: another high- profile problem since its opening, the walkway through the elevated park which deteriorated as well. >> we took the opportunity to replace the entire path. now when people come up for day one, they will see this new pass . >> reporter: as for the cost, the transbay center incurred $6 million for all the engineering they had to do. the builders spent money to fix the cracked beams. it was under the warranty. they will work to recoup the money they lost and make sure that the costs for repairs don't fall on commuters. in san francisco, ktvu fox 2 news. the oakland police are encouraged by the results of their ongoing crackdown on sideshows. the department says they plan to continue to track sideshows and break up the gathering every weekend throughout the center. they are all working with

oakland to try to stop the sideshow activity. this includes arresting drivers and issuing citations as well as towing vehicles. the wife of san diego congressman duncan hunter pleaded guilty in federal court today to corruption charges. they are accused of spending more than $250,000 in campaign money, on personal expenses including vacation, hotel rooms, and home purchases. the republican congressman suggested his wife was to blame for the indictment. he is going to go on trial in september. his wife may testify against him. after her court appearance, margaret hunter issued a statement that was read by her attorney. >> i have fully accepted responsibility for my conduct , i'm deeply remorseful, i apologize. i'm saddened for the hurt i've caused my family as well as others. in prison when she is sentenced in september.

the house intelligence committee held a hearing about fabricated videos called the fake. lawmakers are concerned that the fake videos could influence the upcoming presidential election. ray naylor with some of the shockingly realistic examples of these altered videos. >> i would never say these things . >> reporter: this is an example of a digitally fabricated video where it's not really president obama speaking but key and jordan peele created the alternative video to send a warning. >> we need to be more vigilant with what we trust from the internet. >> reporter: the manipulated videos made possible by artificial intelligence, algorithms, they could be hard to detect. they present a nightmare scenario for the 2020 election. >> not only could fake videos

be passed off as real, real information could be passed off as fake. it's difficult for the public to terman what is true. >> video editing has become good and inexpensive. what used to require the skills of a highly trained professional editor could now be done by an amateur using sophisticated technology that they could get for little or no cost. >> reporter: they shared a few examples. >> they are able to co-op the movements of their targets if married with convincing audio, they could turn a world leader into a ventriloquist. >> reporter: including if a swap example from a researcher where senator elizabeth warren's face would put on a saturday night live actors body. an example was these photos of fabricated people. the fake faces created with artificial intelligence. >> i think facebook and youtube as well as other companies could develop that technology and analyze the videos and say, this doesn't look right. that does not mean we should ban them but we need to look at them further to figure out if they are fake. >> reporter: tech analysts say the responsibility lies with social media users, checking

anita hill's says she is open to voting for joe biden as president if he wins the democratic nomination. you will recall she testified before congress in 1991 saying the supreme court nominee clarence thomas had sexually harassed her. biden was chairman of the senate judiciary committee at that time.

hill has criticized him for his handling of those hearings. the former vice president has acknowledged hill was vilified by his colleagues and says he personally did nothing that would require an apology. all a's trained service was canceled today after a gas leak in livermore. it was reported around midnight near the union pacific tracks. crews say they've isolated the leak and have shut off the flow of gas to the pipeline. they say the area is safe and no customers are currently affected. ace officials are expecting to have normal train service resume tomorrow. let's bring in our chief meteorologist to talk about the forecast and cool temperatures even tomorrow. >> even coolerthe coolest day overall the highs from today, 90s inland.
