ktvu fox 2 news starts now. we want to welcome our ktvu viewers who have been watching the baseball game and welcome back to you who have watched us on ktvu plus. this is the news rat 7:00 already in progress. thanks for joining us. i'm heather holmes. >> i'm alex savidge. the national transportation safety board released its preliminary report on the fire that killed 35 people on a dive boat in the channel islands. the crew was sleeping when the fire broke out and there was no night watchman on guard as required by law. the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it may have been sparked by electronics that were charged in the galley. police in richmond are searching for the suspect who shot and killed terrell roberts. the former nfl player was at his home yesterday when he was gunned down. a motive is not known, but investigators say that they

believe roberts got into a confrontation with someone outside the house before the shooting. about 100 people rallied outside a city hall in walnut creek tonight to support the family of a young man shot and killed by police officers during a mental breakdown. the rally came just hours after the family of 23-year-old miles hall sued the police department over his death back in june. the family says they called police because they needed help. the lawsuit calls hall's death preventible. a high school track coach in the east bay fulfilled the dream of his own today when he took the oath and became a united states citizen. >> as ktvu's rob roth shows us, dozens on hand today to celebrate that milestone with him. >> reporter: here in the auditorium of foothill high school in pleasantton the man many students call coach jorge took a special oath and achieved what he's long wanted.

the examiner reports those bus routes typically serve 33,000 riders daily and many people had to find a new way home because of the diversion. muni says it will no longer divert buses in order to increase shuttle service to chase center. b.a.r.t. is moving its headquarters in downtown oakland in order to save money. today the b.a.r.t. board approved spending $227 million to purchase and refurbish a building on webster street. that new headquarters will be just a few blocks from b.a.r.t.'s current space at the kaiser center. b.a.r.t. says this plan will actually save money in the long run because it's facing a rent hike in two years. a sales tax bond will fund b.a.r.t.'s new digs. the city of alameda today celebrated a groundbreaking for a new ferry terminal. the terminal is being built at alameda point. sea flame lagoon will be the city's third ferry terminal. city officials say the addition

will offer not only more options but a pleasant way to commute and benefit the entire bay area by helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. >> this ferry terminal is so important because we cannot just keep adding more cars to our roadways, to our bridges, to our tunnels. we can't keep widening highways. we need to get people out of their cars and the ferry is a perfect way to commute. >> the new terminal is expected to be a key addition to ferry service from the east bay to san francisco. it is set to open in about a year. still ahead tonight kobe bryant appearing to pick on a 12-year-old girl. the questionable social media post that now has the basketball legend doing some damage control. >> and in weather temperatures today warming up across the entire bay area. heat advisory in place for your friday, but over the weekend some changes and eventually some rainfall, a lot to talk about in our forecast coming up.

the hardly strictly bluegrass festival is making adjustments to its new security policy after feedback from the public. guests are no longer to bring in any types of coolers to the free festival in the golden gate park next mo clear bag or but people can bring medications or baby food in a small soft sided cooler and they're added emergency only exits to the four main entries

and we'll have to keep an eye on some of the wildfire activity. temperatures for tomorrow, we are showing you some very hot numbers, a heat advisory in place for your friday and tomorrow most likely the hottest day of the week, santa rosa 100 degrees, vallejo 97, san rafael 96, the beaches in the upper 70s approaching 80 degrees for your friday afternoon forecasted, oakland 93. look at all the triple digits out towards livermore, antioch and redwood, hot dry conditions an issue. showing you this in the south bay, san jose approaching 96 degrees, morgan hill 101 and san francisco pushed up to 90 degrees, 90 in san francisco, the coast mainly in the 70s, if you are seeking the relief near the shoreline. it's a good idea. just be prepared to be careful with those rip currents out there for tomorrow, a lot of extra visitors out toward the shoreline. a heat advisory for friday.

back right here. that's the insurance run. they win 4-2 and this young fan just says get me home. i need some air conditioning. i need a bed. i'm fast asleep. the pirates win 4-2. what have we learned from the world cup? the rest of the world is better than us in basketball when we don't send our best players, when we send a second and third tier group. everyone's caught up. so gregg popovich, his team, got absolutely clobbered by serbia today, just a terrible game down 32-7 after the first quarter, got a pep talk, came back, played better, but in the end serbia beats the united states 94-89, the second loss in a row for team usa and so the best that they can finish at the world cup is seventh. that would be the worst finish ever since the dream team in 1992 won gold and we started sending pros to international events.
