it's pride weekend in san francisco. see how organizers have moved the typically huge event off city streets and online. and hitting the pause button on reopening, how some bay area businesses are bracing for a change of plan starting next week. this is ktvu fox 2 news at 6:00. >> it is pride week mend the bay ar different there years past. good evening. >> this year marks the 50 anniversary of pride celebrations getting underway in san francisco, but because of the pandemic, things are now moved online. sarah has more on how the celebrations have gone virtual.

>> reporter: san francisco pride, like every other event, looks different this year. the celebration is still being honored online. >> like other times before, we'll get through this too and music can be our therapy. >> reporter: it's a different way to celebrate pride, but an important celebration, nonetheless. >> yes, there are less parties but there can be just as much pride. >> reporter: the annual san francisco pride event moved online this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. it's understandable. >> we have to recognize this is something we have to respond to. >> reporter: it's still disappointing. >> i think every movement needs allies. the virtual world is hard ever to bring those folks in. >> reporter: they're making the

to 7:00 p.m.. >> the lgbtq community center in oakland is working to repair windows that were smashed in the building located in the oak merit district. a man broke the windows the yelling expletives. >> well, the pandemic has led to a big change in the gay pride celebration's pink triangle on the side of twin peaks this. year it will standout and shine more brightly than ever before. the huge pink canvas cannot be installed so it's being replaced by 2700 pink lights a.pink torch made its way from oakland to san francisco today. 40 people including the mayor passed the torch that started at lake mary. organizers say the triangle will be visible all the way to

covid-19 reached 4494 yesterday. that's 1000 more than the week prior. there is also a record number of people in icu. that number climbed to 1973 yesterday. there are a total of more than 206,000. the surge in cases has the bay area considering pausing or adjusting their reopening their timelines. san francisco halted plans to scheduled for monday and contra costa county is on the fence. >> reporter: it was a busy saturday at main street kitch none walnut creek. well, as busy as it could be with limited tables and outdoor

san carlos. they approve add weekend plan to encourage bicycle and pedestrian activity with allowing businesses to extend outdoor dining. the road closures will happen every weekend through the end of the year. >> the ktvu news app features all of the reopening plan. there is a running list of what's open and where. >> santa clara county held a weekly town hall today. the supervisor and county health officials updateed the county's efforts. there are almost four thousand confirmed coronavirus cases and 155 deaths, the highest of any bay area. the number of deaths reported weekly has been declining. >> the weekly mortality numbers that we were seeing, the death rates is now down to very low single digits. the last two weeks we've been

able to come here on saturday and as much as we more than the deaths and the grief and we're sorry for the families, we still have to say that two deaths per week is a much better indicator than a couple dozen. >> right now there are 78 people confirmed and in the hospital in santa clara county. >> officials at san quentin prison today reported dozens more inmates are infected with the coronavirus. another 66 positive cases today among the inmates bringing the total to 613 inmates up from 547 on friday. 89 staff members have been infected. a rally is planned for tomorrow afternoon in front of the prison demanding they do more to protect the inmates from the spread of the virus. >> the u.s. has at least 2.4 million coronavirus cases and

at least 125,000 related deaths. more than half of allstates are seeing spike in cases leaving some states to pause reopenings. >> this is real. it's not going away any time soon. >> reporter: the new daily coronavirus cases in the united states are trending up. florida health officials reporting more than nine thousand new covid-19 cases on saturday. the data marking the highest single day recording in the state since the start of the pandemic. >> there are 200,000 tests a week we're doing in florida so obviously you're going to see a spike. >> reporter: the nation recorded more than 40,000 new cases on friday loan and the infection rate continues to rise in more than 30 states. the surging number of new cases have sent many back pedaling on reopening plans. in texas the case numbers have increased drank increased

the russian government today released video of what it calls an interception of three u.s. navy planes over the black sea. russia says the planes were flying over neutral waters but towards the russian border. the three planes eventually flew in a different direction this. comes after u.s. war planes intercepted two russian aircraft on wednesday when they came within 50 miles of the alaskan chain. >> there are reports this evening that president trump hand vice president mike pence were actually kept in the dark by intelligence officials after reports of russians paying taliban fighters to target u.s. troops in afghanistan. the revolution has the democrats sharply criticizeing the white house. we have more from washington,

d.c.. >> reporter: there is growing outrage over a new york times report that says u.s. intelligence officials believe a russian military unit offered taliban militants money in exchange for targeting u.s. troops. the bombshell report says the financial bounties offered have been around for several months. the president says he's taken a tougher stance on russia but others say differently. senator cain says president trump was cozying up to putin while he knew they were trying to kill the u.s. troops in afghanistan. russia's embassy in washington called it base less. the former u.s. ambassador to russia tweeted he wants to know more, writing i hope we get to hear from some regarding the dereliction of duties to defend
