images of human flood that shows no sign of receding. today new survey shows how displeased americans are with the border policy. we'll speak with border state democrat, henry cuellar, on that. first to griff jenkins who has been in eagle pass for what seems like several years now. griff jenkins, hello, what is the news today? >> griff: bill, good morning. there is a humanitarian crisis playinsouthern border in places like here and eagle pass, texas. migrants traveled thousands of miles to reach the u.s. in numbers far greater than what border officials are able to handle. >> homeland security secretary mayorkas visiting the border in mcallen, texas, saturday, saying they are taking more action to stem the unprecedented flow of migrants averaging 9000 daily.

actions include sending troops to the border, increasing deportation and increasing status to half a million venezuelans, making it easier for them to find work in places like new york. texas governor greg abbott trying to deter with razor wire, humvees and guardmen in rafts attempting to turn them back temperature is not working. cbp says a record number arrived last month, 230,000, the highest august on record. more are on the way. trains in mexico show hundreds of migrants heading toward the u.s. with the crisis on full display. in eagle pass, texas, the migrants struggle to climb through shash barbs after crossing a dangerous river that

deport them, do more to stop people on their southern border with guatemala, ot worked in 20 worked under president trump and now this agreement reached a couple days ago, if they enforce it, we should see a slowing of flow of people coming in. >> bill: president biden did set motion of following things this week. granted work visa to venezuela know ans, assigned workers in border offices, mayorkas met with officials. does any of that change the current tide? >> it does provide assistance. if you talk about work visa and permit without doing anything at the border, it becomes a magnet. i've been saying this for years,

we as democrats and republicans can continue playing defense on the one-yard line or we can play defense on their 20-yard line and get mexico to do more like they did in 2015, when the numbers started slowing down, 2019, where numbers slowed down. if we do it, it will happen. stop playing defense. you can send national guard and active members and add more, but think what they do. think about images you saw there. what happens when they get to the border? they touch the river bank, they claim asylum and we know 89 to 90% of them don't qualify for asylum. >> bill: on n.f.l. sunday, that is a proper met tor. president trump tried to build a wall. just this morning, we have this, abc "washington post" out shows 23% of americans approve of

biden handling of immigration. 62% disapprove. almost three years into this adm administr administration, why did it get this bad? >> the policies you have in place, it doesn't matter what administration, you have to have policy with repercussions, if you don't, people see the border as a speed bump and continue to come in. again, i think trump went too much to the right by doing the separation of family and kids and president biden, the administration is not doing enough. we have to find the right balance. listen to community leaders like the mayor of eagle pass, the mayor of el paso and other places, listen to communities at the border. you have repercussions at the border, deport people not

pension plan of the union, that leaves false impression on the minds of union workers and encourages union bosses to continue to sell something that could never be, that is major issueir have with the current uaw struggle. their bosses continue to make promises they cannot keep. i sat in a finance hearing and heard a union widow come before the committee because her monthly income cut dollar 4000 down to $1000. i want to make sure we don't see that situation ever again. >> bill: speaking of workers, sir, in iowa this week you said, i think ronald reagan gave a great example when federal employees decided to strike. he said, you strike, you're fired, simple concept to me, to the extent we can use that
