i need your help. this is my sister, madeline kingsbury. she's missing. >> thousands of tips pour in. two months after maddie disappeared. one of those tips leads police to a remote area off a minnesota highway. there they find a body. tests confirm it's madeleine kingsbury. >> the last 69 days have been frustrating. full of heartache and pain for the family, law enforcement and the community. while this discovery is not what we were hoping for, we are thankful to be able to bring maddie home to her family. the remains were located in an area that had already been searched. there were efforts made to conceal the location of the body, and it was not visible from the roadway. >> maddie's heartbroken friends sobbed as police confirmed their worst fears. >> she's home, but not the way we wanted. >> but who would want to kill the young mother? adam franmil,

the father of maddie's children, denies his involvement. in the days after maddie went missing, the kids were removed from adam's care and her parents given temporary custody, according to court records. adam is outraged and heads to court to fight for his parental rights. it's not long before he faces a new legal battle. adam is arrested and charged with maddie's murder, but his sister insists he's a good man. >> he's never been a bad guy. he's never controlled maddie. she did whatever she wanted. he was very loving to her. i can't get anyone to believe me, but i know that my brother didn't do this. >> the criminal complaint reveals adam was accused multiple times of allegedly hitting and choking maddie. the two had recently broken up and were in the process of moving out of their home when maddie disappeared. >> this is just the beginning of this case, and there's more investigation to do.

>> prosecutors offer even more chilling details. maddie's body was found wrapped in a gray bedsheet, similar to sheets found in the couple's home. another shocker. the search warrant says adam was obsessed with the gabby petito case. >> me and brian just got up. >> petito was the young woman killed by boyfriend brian laundrie in 2021, in a wyoming national park. adam franmil warned maddie she'd end up just like petito if she didn't straighten up. franmil told investigators he was only joking. yet that disturbing detail will likely raise eyebrows when he goes to trial. adam fri trial is set to start next week and is expected to take at least three weeks. we'll be monitoring the case closely and we will bring you updates here and at true crime news.com. now we turn to the brazen and violent murder of a convenience store clerk late at night in

georgia. the entire attack caught on security cameras, and cops will discover that their suspect isn't at all who they expected. it is one of the most vicious attacks ever caught on surveillance. a convenience store clerk repeatedly stabbed late one night in georgia. security cameras recording from several angles, catching every terrifying second. at 1017, the clerk dk chowdhari, is completely overpowered by the attacker and shoved into a storage area. another security camera inside the store shows customers totally unaware of the brutality going on in the back room to keep the clerk quiet. the heartless killer duct tapes the poor man's mouth, then covers his nose to silence his last breath. dk chowdhari never had a chance. >> the medical examiner later testified that he would have been dead within a few minutes because of the amount of blood

that he lost, and how quickly he lost that blood. >> then the assailant scrambles between the back room and the front counter, and at one point actually tells customers to get out. >> and ultimately convinces them to leave. they don't realize what's happened. customers in the store are confused, but they do ultimately leave and drive off. >> the killer gets to work raiding the register, trying to open the safe, and right here you can see the perpetrator steal a roll of 500 a week for life. scratch off lottery tickets, then returns to the back room one more time, stuffs the loot into a bag right next to dk a's dead body and takes off. moments later, another customer comes in. >> he looks around. he notices there's money on the floor behind the register, ultimately goes back and looks in the kitchen and sees the victim's body. leaves the store without touching anything and calls 911. >> we just walked in the store

and seen the guy down. the change on the floor looked like they'd been robbed. >> could you tell if he was injured at all? >> i seen blood on the floor and he's down. i didn't walk back there and look. okay ladies can go look at the request of the 911 operator. >> one of those customers, melanie brewer, goes back in and checks the victim just to make sure if he's breathing, if he needs medical care. and she can tell clearly without even touching the body that he's deceased. he's not breathing. >> and gosewisch everywhere. james harden. he's dead. he's dead. >> he's dead. >> oh, man. >> oh my goodness! >> cops! look at surveillance video. but it's no help. and then there's the brutality of the attack. >> part of the initial discussion was trying to determine, is this really a robbery and a complete stranger, or is this someone the victim knows? and maybe the robbery is an afterthought, or the robbery is to make it look like it was a stranger to throw us off a little bit. >> then the big break. cops find a clue right next to dk's dead

we're back with the savage murder of a convenience store clerk. dk chowdhari, who was stabbed to death while working late at night. now, with his killer on the loose, cops get a lucky break and a big surprise as the brutality plays out in the back room. customers in and out of the back room have no idea of the brutal scene. just feet away, there's a gun on the floor. you can see the assailant kicks it out of the way. during the struggle, the attacker drops a key piece of evidence a cell phone. when investigators access stored photos, they're stunned. the menacing six foot two savage killer who viciously beat the

store clerk down is a woman they quickly determined that the suspect had actually dropped her cell phone at the scene. >> and that was our first big break in the investigation. they began a complete forensic examination of that phone. at that point, sky menez, a striking 22 year old model, dancer and rapper. >> what you don't want love. that's like my soul. >> she had recently moved to atlanta with dreams of hitting it big in the music business. it didn't take cops in georgia long to find her after receiving a phone tip on her location, the us marshals task force began setting up surveillance on that house until they were able to determine, in fact, that she was home and go in and make the arrest. they're greeted by a very agitated and very naked skye mims when they go in and she's naked at the top of the staircase and they're screaming, shoot me, shoot me, shoot me! >> and i can't imagine what the law enforcement officers were thinking when they finally got her arrested. >> she's brought out to a patrol

car, handcuffed to wrapped in a blanket, and somehow skye mims slips out of the cuffs. all right, you're going. >> you okay? >> are you okay? jeremy? go ahead. she's doing something to herself. she took off her cuffs. 925. >> you're going to pull over. >> i'll do that for you. >> she taunts the cops with her houdini act. >> gropp. >> pull over to the right. drop them. >> don't move. >> the naked mims is cuffed, but this time with leg shackles. mims, who had been silent until now, suddenly mouths off. >> apostel pac would you shoot me with a gun? >> i can't hear you taser. i wasn't there, so i couldn't tell you. >> you had a gun on you always. >> 944 961? go ahead. >> yeah. >> disregard. 944 964. would you

shoot me in my head? go ahead, one half. all right. are you from 919? >> once in an interrogation room, her actions get even more bizarre. at times, she even seems amused. but things don't get much better during questioning. >> is there a reason you came down here? >> i need to know what kind of sho's do you have? music. music? sho's. is that where you sing in or playing instruments or what? all right. >> and the other key question skye mims refused to answer was why she brutally killed a man. turns out it was all about those lottery tickets. she thought

winning the lottery was her ticket to financial security to pursue her artistic career. a state psychiatrist determined skye mims isn't mentally ill, so she's charged with murder and put on trial. and there is a pile of evidence against her in addition to the terrifying stabbing, surveillance video shows mims coming in to case the store in a different outfit. and an hour before the attack, the gloves the killer wore have her skin cells in them between her house and her car. cops discovered the knife with chaudhari's blood on it. a roll of red duct tape like that used to smother the victim. and finally, police find dozens of the $500 a week for life lottery tickets. mims pleaded not guilty during trial. her odd behavior didn't change. >> a lot of people got upset when she would come into the courtroom and blow kisses at people and make signs to some of her family that was there.

>> she would turn around and make gestures to members of the audience. she would make eye contact with the camera, make gestures to the camera, and that went on and off and on during the week. she would laugh and even giggle at times during the trial. during witness questioning, if an answer she didn't like, she even laughed and giggled. some during her own attorney's closing argument to the jury. and you could tell that that was not helping her with the jury in any way. >> turns out that is a bit of an understatement. in a trial that went from opening arguments to closing arguments in five days, deliberations took less than an hour. >> we, the jury, find the defendant count one malice murder guilty. >> the defendant who slipped her cuffs, smiled through interrogation, mugged for the camera and laughed during testimony, stood stone faced and unmoving as she was pronounced guilty of all 11 counts and then taken away without so much as a

a drug dealing operation. this woman, elsa segura, who was a probation officer and was dating the business partner, lured monique to the bogus showing where the others were waiting. they abducted her and confined her in the cargo hold of a moving truck. >> about an hour later, monique bokk was found with three gunshot wounds in an alley near her home. >> monique did not have to die. i didn't have to throw her out like she was garbage either. my baby was so precious. so precious to me. >> but segura's conviction was suddenly overturned. the minnesota supreme court, citing faulty jury instructions in her case, leaving monique's family devastated. >> why should anyone involved in such a horrific crime be eligible for any type of freedo? we don't have any freedom. her kids don't have any freedom now. >> segura pleaded guilty to kidnaping in an effort to avoid
