normal night out on the town in vegas for 22 year old lesley palacio. >> i heard lesley leave. i heard the back door open, but the young medical laboratory assistant student wouldn't return home. >> that night, my mom and kielly come back and my mom is just crying. >> it's like this, like blood curdling scream. >> how did a fun meet up with a trusted friend turned deadly? >> lesley was more of like a mother figure. >> sisters ashley and kaylee palacio say lesley was a nurturing sibling who always talked about bigger plans for the family's future. >> she always said, i want to get you guys out of here and get you guys a bigger house. >> and she also wanted to turn

her medical lab experience into working crime scenes. >> she wanted to become a csi, but one fateful night, lesley would instead become a crime victim. >> the night started with the son of a family friend texting leslie eric rangel. ybarra wanted to grab dinner and head over to a casino. >> in the casino surveillance video, we see leslie and eric walking into the casino together, having a few drinks, spending time there, and then walking out of the casino together. >> palacio family attorney ophelia markarian says everything about the vegas night seemed very normal. >> they got into eric's car together and left the casino. that night. >> but this text at 440 in the morning, sent to leslie's sister, points to something strange, leslie writing that she needs to talk, but then never responds. just after 6 a.m, a

neighbor's security camera captures eric, pulling up to his home. he gets out of the truck and walks next to leslie, who is struggling to stand. they manage to make it in, but an hour later, eric and his father jose rangel are seen carrying leslie out and into his truck. this time, she's not walking at all. >> you can clearly see eric driving off with leslie's lifeless body in the truck, and you can also see eric's father, jose rangel, washing off with a hose. the front yard. after eric leaves. >> in the meantime, the palacios pleaded for information for 12 long days, holding out hope for her to come home. >> we all looked at each other and then that's when we knew, like, yeah, this is more serious than what we think it is.

>> then the news they dreaded leslie's badly decomposed body was found near valley of fire state park, nearly 60 miles from the vegas strip. >> my mom is just crying. >> according to a grand jury transcript that night, eric called a friend saying he needed help getting rid of leslie's body. the friend later testified eric told him he killed leslie and that she was dead in the back of his truck. as days passed with crime investigators searching for her, eric and his father vanished. >> his father actually a few months later, was crossing the border in mexico, and that's how he ended up turning himself in. >> jose rangel eventually pleaded guilty to helping his son move leslie's body from the family home. he was sentenced to two years, but was released after eight months. >> i feel like it was very

unfair because then again, he and eric are the last ones to see leslie in that state and crime scene. >> investigators had found cleaning supplies and leslie's dna in eric's bedroom. yet he has never faced a trial. >> it just makes me feel so gross and disgusted. >> that's because eric remained living his life in mexico for several years until a recent break. eric was arrested by mexican authorities. >> there's still a lot of work ahead of us because the extradition process can be lengthy. >> the palacio family remains frustrated as they wait for justice, something her loving sisters are committed to findin. >> i'm hoping that the court has a really good outcome, and that's when you can see my true reaction until he's finally put away for life. >> eric rangel ibarra is

defense attorney, a move matt says doomed the trial. from the start. >> he gave a very technically sound cross-examination of this 12 year old murder victim's mother, where he basically called her a liar. but i looked over and all that jury saw was the monster who murdered her daughter, calling her a liar. >> after matt put him away, alcalá died behind bars in 2021, but huntington beach, california police believe he is still responsible for dozens of other cold case murders. based on the hundreds of photos featuring stalking and torture that they found in his old storage locker. do you believe all the people in those photos are victims? >> some of them have been identified over the years. one of them, christine thornton, she was the wyoming victim, and wyoming and brogdon alcalá had no connection that we know of until we learned that he'd been given permission by his parole officer to drive across country

>> we turn now to jacksonville, florida. i went there to investigate disturbing allegations against a local dentist. he is accused of inflicting unthinkable pain against his young patients and making millions in the process. this is horrifying. those are the screams of a three year old boy in the hands of a dentist accused of intentionally inflicting pain and torturing children to satisfy deviant,

sadistic appetites. all this revealed in court documents. >> i can't personally imagine a situation where there would be a worse dentist in america. >> many of his little patients would have to agree. >> he heard in me and i was yelling for my mom, but he wouldn't let my mom and my dad in. and that he choked me. >> tomás you say the dentist punched you? >> yeah, he threw me. they choked me and they sat on me. >> these are three of the dozens of children attorney john phillips initially represented when you put 81 children side by side by side, and you measure the level of consistency, it's off the charts. this is the dentist. they are all complaining about doctor howard schneider of jacksonville, florida. some of doctor schneider's harshest critics say he ran a little shop of horrors that disfigured children and

robbed them of their smiles. the pediatric dentist has been threatened with legal action by more than 100 families, represented by two different law firms, one alleging professional malpractice. the other accusing him of a number of terrible things, including battery, false imprisonment and intentional abuse. >> the more procedures, the more the more billings in one suit. >> schneider's practice was called a house of horrors. >> bilking the tax payer one baby tooth at a time. >> though schneider's attorney is fighting back, saying the lawsuits are only meant to embarrass and harass his client. >> it would go in for caps, and two months later they'd have those same teeth that were capped extracted. >> schneider's lawyer maintains the procedures were medically necessary. yet phillips showed me bag after bag filled with children's teeth, which he says

didn't need any work. healthy baby teeth that should have just fallen out naturally. >> i do believe it was very unnecessary that he kept all 14 teeth. >> shawaryn christopher's son, zion is the one you heard screaming in the video. >> my son was screaming about ten minutes. >> poor little zion went in for just one cap on a decaying tooth and came out with a mouth full of metal. >> i started videotaping because i felt something was wrong with the procedure. >> as horrifying as it is to listen to zion screaming, imagine if you could not hear your child screaming for help. amanda berry and nicholas balzer are deaf and they had no idea that their son dominic was screaming in the dentist chair. they couldn't come in the room. >> no. >> and you would have wanted your mommy and your daddy there. >> yeah, i was screaming for my mom. >> with the help of a sign language interpreter, the parents told me their horror story. dominic went in to have one tooth extracted. they say

>> this is 11 year old thomas dennis and his service dog, crosby. thomas has autism and epilepsy. yet doctor schneider didn't allow his mother or his service dog to be by his side in the exam room. so you're all by yourself. susan, denise says thomas was severely traumatized by being restrained in something called a papoose board. >> he punched me on the shoulder and i didn't like it. >> papoose boards are used in pediatric dentistry. in certain cases, but dentists must get the parent's permission. >> there's been a series of complaints about doctor schneider, but they never went anywhere. >> well, that all changed when one mother got mad and went on a rant on facebook. >> he messed with the wrong baby. that's what he did. >> what got brandi motley so upset was this. these are photos of her daughter, brielle, right

after an appointment with doctor schneider. >> that's when i seen brielle on the papoose board, hyperventilating and blood everywhere. >> doctor schneider pulled eight baby teeth. even though brielle's mom claims she didn't have one cavity. four on the top and four on the bottom. >> all of her front teeth and all of her bottom front teeth were gone. all she had was jaw. teeth. so brandi took to facebook and let it all out. i posted her pictures along with what happened that day. >> brandi's facebook page about doctor schneider, which at the time grew to more than 14,000 supporters, brought other parents out of the shadows. >> and then i realized that thomas was not the only child i was like, holy crud, what's going on with this guy? >> finally, years later, but finally, finally, finally, finally indeed. >> after weeks of protests, doctor schneider gave up. he voluntarily relinquished his license to practice and shut

down his office. >> the attorney general's office called my home. >> doctor schneider was arrested and charged with 11 counts of medicaid fraud for performing procedures without parental consent and submitting unauthorized claims for medicaid reimbursement. he was also charged with one count of scheming to defraud. >> the handcuffs made me smile. yes. yes, ma'am. >> schneider was booked and released on $110,000 bond. >> when doctor schneider got arrested, it made me so happy. >> doctor schneider denies the allegations and would not talk to us. his attorney sent us this statement, reading in part. my client and i respectfully decline your offer to opportunity to participate in a process which has heretofore been anything but fair and balanced. not long after we spoke with the families, many of them reached a settlement agreement with doctor schneider. the terms of which are
