october 6th, the last night suzanne was seen alive. according to the arrest warrant, suzanne met brad for dinner at an exclusive club in their neighborhood with their five year old daughter, charlie, there. witnesses saw brad and suzanne get into a fight, got physical, and there was an altercation. police say suzanne and charlie left around 830 and went home, but only later with the magnitude of the physical altercation, be clear when suzanne first phones a friend and then her mother when she got back, she called me up and told me the things that brad had done to her physically. specifically, suzanne says brad caused pain to her arm, back and neck. >> i came up with an alternative plan for her and hope that she'd move in with me. i never got to tell her the plan. i think brad at that time had done the damage. >> later that night, a neighbor witnesses the simpson's in a physical fight outdoors when they returned home, adding that

he heard screams from a nearby area and then silence. >> when suzanne was reported missing monday night, that's when investigators started talking to neighbors. >> true crime news affiliate news four san antonio reporter marisa mendoza says that's when the desperate search for suzanne began. >> we move forward, out as we can, as fast as we can, and try to locate the person as soon as possible. >> investigators scoured the woods near her home, an east san antonio landfill, and an area off interstate 1030 miles away. >> they would not say specifically what they had, which led them to the bexar county landfill on the southeast side. >> it's not clear why cops say on october 7th at 753, a m, surveillance cameras see brad simpson dropping their daughter charlie off at school, though suzanne doesn't pick her up. >> their five year old told a school official that she had witnessed her mom and dad in a

fight, and that she saw her dad push her mom into a wall and that her dad took her mom's phone away. >> investigators say a friend called brad that night to discuss suzanne's disappearance, asking why he had not reported her missing. at 9:57 p.m, she contacted police. 13 minutes later, brad called authorities himself. police claim when they arrived at this home, they are hit with a number of inconsistencies on when brad last saw suzanne first claiming he hadn't seen her since 11 p.m. the night that she went missing, then saying he last saw her moments before taking their daughter to school the next morning. brad soon turns uncooperative in the early morning hours, about 1:30 a.m, we arrested mr. simpson just 36 hours after reporting suzanne missing. police arrest brad simpson for assault and unlawful

restraint. it was enough to hold him as they continued to investigate and eventually uncover a payload of highly suspicious surveillance footage and more. on october 7th, 9:12 a.m. brad's truck is seen at a fast food drive through. the warrant states that in the truck bed, they observed trash bags, a heavy duty trash can, an ice chest, a large, bulky item wrapped and secured in a blue tarp, and a metal rack seemingly to conceal and weigh the tarp down. 9:53 a.m. brad is captured on a home store camera, purchasing two bags of cement, an orange construction bucket, a box of 32 count trash bags, one bottle of 30 ounce clorox spray, and insect repellent. detectives were able to place his truck later that morning at a solid waste facility about 30 miles north of boerne, texas, at 3:27

p.m. brad is seen on camera picking up daughter charlie at school, but cops say surveillance cameras show the blue tarp and the firewood rack were gone. then there are the text messages with his longtime business partner, james víctor. the following day on october 8th. if you're in bandera, can you hall to meet me at your house? i don't have much time now. for the first time, police are releasing qatar's responses to those messages. qatar writing i will be there in 40 minutes. brad adding okay, make sure and leave all that into the pump house, especially the gun. then later that same night, qatar sent another text get over here. i won't tell anyone, followed by you're my brother. a subsequent search of qatar's home turned up simpson's gun hidden inside a wall in the primary bedroom. >> that gun was found in mr. qatar's home behind the tv in a secret compartment. >> authorities charged qatar

with tampering with evidence and possession of prohibited weapons, both felonies. qatar posted $100,000 bail and is out of jail after the judge reduced his bond from $1 million. >> the search for suzanne is still ongoing. >> one new detail regarding the search, the arrest warrant shows that two months before she disappeared, suzanne told her personal banker that if she ever went missing, to quote, look for her in a lake. meanwhile, suzanne's remains have not been located, her oldest daughter chandler, posting her outrage on social media that reads in part, my father took my mother's life in a state of rage and control. i will not stop speaking as the voice of my mother until she is found. >> we will not stop until we find her. >> we'll continue to follow this story and we will bring you updates right here and on true crime news. dot com. if you or anyone you know is experiencing

now we turn to atlanta, georgia. when a woman named honey malone walked out the door of her home in stone mountain to go see some friends, her mom had no idea that she would never come back, or how long it would take to get justice. after an agonizing eight year wait, flora malone finally got the news she'd been waiting for. a man was arrested for the murder of her 18 year old daughter, vanessa honey malone. >> she was actually the sweetest little girl you've ever met. i mean, she she was the type that went and kissed everybody good night and never had a bad time. but joy soon turned into despair when the alleged killer bonded

out. >> he's now been a free man for four years. the lack of justice has been torturous for honey's big sister, cassandra. >> what do you miss most about your sister? >> i miss her little high energy self. just her voice. how she i. i wish she was here so she can see my son. >> it was a late october night in the atlanta suburb of stone mountain. honey malone had just gotten off work. she told her mom that she was tired, but still she left to hang out with acquaintances at a nearby apartment complex known for drug dealers. >> from my investigation. the apartment was very busy. people went in and out of the apartment. the traffic was was of high volumes. so it could have been many, many more. >> and when you say there was a lot of traffic in and out of the apartment, is that because they were selling drugs out of there?

yes, ma'am. so you knew where honey was going and what she was going to do? >> well, she didn't really say where she was going. then she came back in, like, 2 minutes or 3 minutes and i'm like, oh, oka. she said, no, i just wanted you to know that i love you. and i'll be right back. >> those were the last words she would ever say to her mother. >> she had to walk all the way around our place to come and tell me how much she loved me. and it's like where is this coming from? i mean, not that she didn't say i love you all the time, but it was just weird if something was just strange. >> minutes later, gunshots rang out into the night. when emergency vehicles arrived, a sick feeling came over. flora malone. she would soon learn her daughter was dead. how has it been for you without her? >> it's hard because i think about her all the time. >> honey was shot in the back,

dragged across the carpet into a closet, and then shot point blank in the chest. the bullet piercing her heart. honey's friends who were in the apartment that night included donald, mercy, ash, and another man nicknamed yakker. both have criminal records. they told police between 3 and 6 men with guns kicked in the door, and proceeded to beat and then tie them up. no one else was hurt, only honey, who was dumped face down in a pile of dirty clothes in the closet. what really went down in that apartment? cops had one theory. >> i believe it was a home invasion robbery with the main purpose to steal the drugs and the money out of that apartment while the robbers were ransacking the apartment, i believe honey walked in, and when she turned to leave, that's when she was shot. >> when she turned to leave, yes, but why shoot, honey? >> collateral damage. >> but to this day, honey's family has a very different

on you, you might as well just take them all out. >> why was honey the only person shot and killed that night? her two friends, yakker: and mercy, claimed that they were beaten up and tied in the apartment that night. but when honey's mom pressed mercy for answers, he refused to meet with her, and all along he was on law enforcement's radar. >> i would say a main person of interest in this case would be mercy. based on the statements that i've reviewed and the evidence that i've looked at, he was very deep into the dope gang. it seems like he ran the business out of that house, did the drugs and the money belong to mercy? i believe so, so mercy probably knows who was out to get him. >> probably. and that same person might be the person who killed honey. probably. it took eight long years, but in the end, that same person turned out to be none other than mercy himself. and authorities finally caught him using a relatively new forensic technology called

the m vac system. the machine sprays and vacuums at the same time, and can collect up to 50 times more dna than a traditional swab. using the m vac, police gathered touch dna from honey's clothing, focusing on the areas that would have been manhandled when she was dragged under her arms and on her ankles from that, they got a full profile, turned out the dna matched to mercy. dekalb police believe he did not act alone, and the case is ongoing. when we reached out for comment, they told us, quote, the case in question is open and pending in our office while it is under investigation, we are unable to release any additional information. as such, we will not be able to accommodate an interview at this time. honey's family started a facebook group, rest in peace honey, which has 124,000 followers on it. flora

posted hug your loved ones because you never know when it will be. the last time possible. mercy was caught more than four years ago, but at the height of the covid 19 pandemic, he bonded out just two months later and then he was arrested on an unrelated theft charge and bonded out. yet again. this is maddening for honey's family. i recently had the chance to talk with her sister cassandra to get the latest on the case. cassandra, it's so good to see you again. >> you as well. >> there's been an arrest. what was your reaction? >> so at first we were super excited. like, oh my god, they finally have enough evidence. they got someone. it was a person that we anticipated was at least a part of it. we didn't know, you know, in what depth. but he was arrested for second degree murder and was able to bond out. so that was kind of like a heartbreak from there.

>> but now it is four years after his arrest. is there a trial date? >> no, we haven't gotten anything. he was able to get off of his house arrest. he was able to get off of curfew. he was able to get off of all his stipulations, dealing with court and everything. so i'm just we're we're lost. >> cassandra, do you feel that one of the barriers here is that almost everyone who was in that apartment at the time your sister was murdered is alleged to be connected to the drug trade or gangs, and nobody wants to come forward. >> i think that, yes, the people that were in the apartment were connected with the gang. >> i want to say something happened in that apartment. they either did it or they know exactly who did it. we want to know why. we want to know who vanessa was. only 115 pounds at most. she was not a threat at
