because of the sense of community here, you know? so it's definitely a long line, but it's also nice to see everyone coming out and, you know, doing their holiday errands at the same time. >> if you missed today's priority mail deadline, you can still ship with the post office using priority mail express. the deadline for that is saturday. you can also ship with fedex and ups to get packages to arrive by december 25th. that will cost you more, though, than postal service priority mail. >> a big announcement for soccer fans as the san jose earthquakes announced the 2025 schedule. the big name that will be making a stop at paypal park and what's expected to sell out. >> we are tracking rain and the impact it will have on your holiday. your bay area forecast is on deck. it's ready to go and we'll be right back after th brief

here out of san francisco. sf state is closed due to a threat on twitter. the school sent out an alert saying the university police department has received an anonymous threat to campus. people being told to shelter in place immediately. and if you are not on campus, do not come. activities and classes are canceled for the day. the university police department is coordinating an investigation with the local law enforcement there. again, this is breaking news. classes canceled at san francisco state. people there are being told to shelter in place, and students are being told not to arrive on campus if they were going to come for some
12:44 pm
late afternoon classes. we're working to learn the exact nature of this threat here that's essentially shut down san francisco state. we'll get more information to you just as soon as we have it here in our newsroom. >> well, the san jose earthquakes announced the 2025 schedule today, and there is a big game on the list that's expected to be a sellout. joining us now is team ambassador shea salinas. with more on how the earthquakes will host lionel messi and the inter miami team this season. shea, this is a huge news here. even outside of the soccer world. lionel messi's name is huge. >> absolutely. this was the most anticipated schedule drop in quakes history, and it lived up to the bill. having messi come to san jose and play at paypal park is just an opportunity for the ages. i think he's the best player ever to live, so i'm pumped up for next year. >> so when would this this happen and when would the earthquakes play his team? >> yeah. so right now the game is scheduled for may 14th, which
12:45 pm
is perfect because they're international duties in june. so that increases the likelihood of having traveling with inter miami his team. so that's the may 14th game. and like you said the ticket demand is going to be through the roof for this game. i mean if you've seen the what happened in the cities that he visited last year, i mean, they were selling out 60, $70,000, 70,000 seat stadiums. paypal park is 18,000. so we expect that we expect that sellout to happen. and so one of the one of the reasons this is big news is because, one, the only way to really guarantee a ticket to that spot is through our season ticket plan, which starts at $480. so we're like, man, for me, it's a no brainer value add to see the miami team. but then the schedule also announced five huge games. so it's not only the inter miami game. we also have some big fixtures against san diego. they're a new team in the league. we play our cali clasico game every year at stanford. that's massive. and then we started that new tradition a couple of years ago at levi's
12:46 pm
stadium playing lafc, and we have that game on schedule as well, so the schedule is exciting. i'm pumped up. >> it seems like, you know, just the attraction to the sport gets gets more and more popular. i got to mention that that messi i was i was in ho chi minhitjust d i look up on the side of this hotel and there's this massive picture of lionel messi, who's advertising a watch or something like that. but it just goes to show just all the way around the world, this man is well known, especially after that world cup win, isn't it? >> absolutely. i mean, he's a global icon. him and cristiano ronaldo every. i visit a bunch of schools through our community foundation and every school i visit, kids are like messi, ronaldo, messi, ronaldo. and then i have to be very political. i'm like, oh, i like both, i like both, but around the world everyone knows messi. he's i think he's from another planet. the way he plays the game, his vision, his speed and every game. watching him last year was exciting, so it's going to be a tough game for the quakes, but it's going to be exciting for the fans to watch, and i kind of wish i was still playing to be able to play
12:47 pm
against them. >> you want to have that matchup and just see how well you do. he's kind of like the tiger woods of soccer for sure, right? >> just to be close to greatness would be nice. >> all right. so what do you think this is doing for the sport here? you know, i went to a couple of games last season, packed stadium. people were having a great time. you know, over the years, i've watched, you know, coming from i grew up in another country where soccer was life and then coming here and not seeing that happen. but over the last 20 years i have seen this sport really take off among people in this country. you know that to the point that it's competing with other major, well-established u.s. sports. >> absolutely, andre, i agree, i think the sport's growing. i think every world cup year we see a big spike and we start to see like this, these up trends in popularity of soccer, especially amongst the youth. we've got a world cup coming 2026 here to the bay area. levi's stadium is going to host five games. so we're like anticipating that spike again. i think having messi in the states in the league is going to has
12:48 pm
made a big impact and will continue to do so. so i think the growth of soccer is massive. i don't know many youth, any any kids these days that don't play soccer. so now it's just about getting them engaged with their local pro team, taking them out to games, getting them good, proper coaching. and i think the game is just going to continue to grow during the world cup. >> so we see that spike and then you wouldn't have a team, you know, in your city to really gather around. now that's changing with these new teams. so once the world cup is over, you can go back and support your team and kind of, you know, push them along and cheer them along as well. and i think that's keeping the game going too, as well and causing it to grow in popularity. >> yeah. i mean, having kids in their local market, they can look up to the players they want to be like, and they're from their neighborhood. i mean, we have kids from the bay area that play for the earthquakes. they're our homegrown players. so to have a kid in the area go watch a world cup game and then come to the quake stadium and see guys from palo alto, redwood city, like all these areas playing for the quakes. it just
12:49 pm
makes that dream a little bit more attainable and makes it a little bit more exciting. so that's something that i think is really unique. with soccer. you're the stars are so close to you. but then we also have international guys. so we'll have guys playing in the world cup. so you'll get to watch them play for their national teams. >> yeah, it's really exciting time to watch this unfold. shea salinas i'll see you at the games this coming season here. thank you so much for joining us this noon. appreciate it. >> absolutely. andre we'll see you at the games. all right. >> let's get to some more breaking news.his time in the north he we are getting rd that novato high school is on lockdown due to a nearby robbery. there is police activity on several streets near that highchl. the police department says it will update the comtyhenever possible. they're asking pple to avoid the area. all tsction comes toward the end of what ito be the lasy of school for students atovato high school before the win break. at this point, we don't know what the situation is or when they will be allowed to b released. it may be a late release. i know a lot ohigh schools have finals

sentially at 1:00 sometimes.ool so there's a situation deveng on the campus of novato high school. students there are being told to essentially stay in pce. they're on lockdown. people are being td to avoid the area. there's police activity around several streets surrounding novato high school. we're worko get more information from the police dartment and the school aso whher everyone is okay, which we do expect to be the case. but of course, when that lockdown will be released. we'll turn now to the weather, taking a live look outside. it's a beautiful noon hour along the oakland estuary and beyond. roberta, looking at this picture, you might just forget that we were socked in with fog again this morning. >> yes, and we still are in some locations. in fact, you are the recipient of the glorious conditions. gasia. but meanwhile, over here, orinda, lafayette, even backing all the way into moraga, we're still socked in into parts of diablo, mount diablo as well, and into blackhawk thick areas of fog. visibility at this hour in the north bay is hampered anywhere
12:51 pm
from two and a half miles to three miles. otherwise in the east bay, five and six miles. and that's why the national weather service still has that fog advisory in place for the north and east bay until 1:00, just until a matter of minutes. and then the visibility will gradually improve. but right now, due to the bank of clouds, 46 degrees at this hour in santa rosa, compared to full sunshine and 60 across the santa clara valley, and that is ten degrees warmer than 24 hours ago at this hour, due to the fact that mineta international airport was fogged in, just socked in yesterday, the winds are blowing out some of the fog 17 mile per hour gusts in concord back into clayton. otherwise, redwood city right now with a gentle breeze, five mile per hour winds now and throughout willow glen and cupertino. so this is the culprit that is keeping us on the dry side. but we do have up north, an area of low pressure that's going to bank up against the pacific northwest and just scrape across that northwestern section of the state of california, providing us with very little light rain showers on saturday. until then, here
12:52 pm
come the clouds this time tomorrow, mostly cloudy skies. and then saturday morning, the north bay right there around lake county sees the front slice through the bay area by sunrise, which is at 721, not going to see it. and then we have the rain pushing out of the area by the afternoon hours remaining. cloudy through your sunday and during that period not a lot of rainfall, only 13/100 of an inch of rain expected at this time. computer models are leaning toward san francisco, with just slightly over a 10th a third in the santa rosa area. and then if you're traveling on saturday, that's a big getaway day. we're talking about not a rain out, but sloppy and slick across the northern half of the state. but the recipients with the full on sunshine. palm springs, 80 degrees rain snow mix on saturday for the greater lake tahoe area. a big bang of snow comes on tuesday. monday system will provide us with over a half an inch of rain in san francisco. otherwise, as we just bank on today, we're talking about temperatures in the 50s
12:53 pm
and 60s. tonight's lows 30s and 40s. another chilly night forecast. there you have it. hey gang, i'm not sure if you realize, but winter does officially arrive on saturday and with it, winter like weather with rain showers in the forecast. >> all right, roberta, thank you so much. we got to look out for this weekend in a couple of days. yes. >> all right. coming up he in excitement, an exciting announcement for extreme sports lovers. skateboarding, bmx, motocross and more. get ready for a thrilling experience in sacramento t
